Add An Animated Tabbed Widget To Blogger

Well, we've seen so many blogs come up with tabbed widgets for blogger. What if we add some simple animations to such widgets using Jquery. Will it not make the widget and blog, more attractive and unique? I feel it should. So, in this article, I'll teach you about adding one such animated widget with ease on blogger. Take a look at the demo using the link below and we'll get started.

Pretty interesting, isn't it? Well, let's dive into the tutorial straight away. I'll split the article into three parts - HTML, CSS and JavaScript so that you can rather take a break as and when you need, than working out the complete tutorial at a stretch. Well, so follow these steps to get the animated tab working on your blog.

1. Navigate to "Design>>Edit HTML" and make a backup of your template by clicking on the "Download full template" link at the top of the page. Once the back up is over, search for the following piece of code.

Possible customizations include changing the list-style for the elements, background color, text color and the spacings. Please note that, I've used an image for the arrow mark. So, if you change the background color, ensure that the image showing arrow mark is also changed to match with that of the background.

3. Replace # at every instance with the links you wish to point to. Similarly, replace LINK NAME at every instance with the name of your links - probably post titles. Don't forget to replace TAB TITLE with the your title for the tabs. Save your template temporarily before we add the final jquery magic.
You can add the HTML codes anywhere in your template - not necessary that you add it above the line mentioned in step 1. But, when you place them elsewhere, you need to adjust the width of the widget correspondingly in the CSS part to fit your layout.

JAVASCRIPT/JQUERY
1. Search for the following piece of code in your template.

2. Paste the following piece of code in the text document - SCRIPT FOR ANIMATED TABBED WIDGET, just above the line mentioned in step 1.
Note: You need not include the first line in the script mentioned above (the one in the text document), provided you already have the latest jquery file running on your blog.
3. Save your template and check out the animated tab running on your blog.

Increase or Decrease Your Font Size On Blogger Dynamically - The Text Resizing Widget

FOR WEBMASTERS - A LITTLE COMPLEX PROCEDURE1. Navigate to "Design>>Edit HTML" and make a backup of your template by clicking on the "Download full template" link at the top of the page. Once the back up is over, expand your blogger template and search for the following piece of code. Use CTRL+F to speed up the search.

2. Just add id='wrap-content' along with the div tag mentioned at step 1, that is, next to class='post-body entry-content'. So, your final tag should be similar to the one shown below.

3. Save your template and move to the "Design >> Page Elements" page.
4. Choose "Add a Gadget >> HTML/JavaScript". Now, paste the following codes in the text document - TEXT RESIZING SCRIPT , in the window that pops up (fill the content part - not the title). You may add a title to the widget or you may leave it blank - the choice is yours.
5. Well, that's it! Save your widget and your done!

Note: By following the complex procedure, the font size of your articles, be it the one on the homepage or the post page, will increase or decrease unlike the ones.

The Text Resizing Widget (Indonesian)

Dalam proses seleksi melamar pekerjaan, wawancara sering kali dianggap mudah. Namun dalam sesi wawancara beberapa orang gagal mendapatkan pekerjaan yang didambakannya. Untuk itu sesi wawancara harus dipersiapkan dengan sunguh-sungguh.

Berikut tips rahasia sukses wawancara saat melamar pekerjaan;

1. Berapa gaji yang Anda minta?

Jawab: Sebutkan gaji yang besarnya realistis. Lihat mata pewawancara, sebutkan jumlah, dan berhentilah bicara. Jangan bohong tentang gaji yang Anda terima di kantor sebelumnya, bila Anda sudah bekerja. Bila Anda merasa bahwa gaji Anda di kantor yang sekarang terlalu kecil, berikan penjelasan.

2. Apa kelebihan utama Anda?

Jawab: Pilih potensi Anda yang relevan dengan bidang pekerjaan yang Anda lamar. Hindari respons yang generik seperti pengakuan bahwa Anda pekerja keras. Lebih baik, berikan respons berupa, “Saya selalu diperbudak daftar pekerjaan yang saya buat sendiri. Sebab, saya tidak mau pulang sebelum pekerjaan di kantor beres semua.”

3. Apa kekurangan Anda yang paling jelas?

Jawab: Jangan bilang Anda seorang perfeksionis (menunjukkan bahwa Anda sombong). Lebih baik, jujur saja dan sebutkan kelemahan yang kongkret. Misalnya, Anda lemah menghitung di luar kepala, dan karenanya Anda mengatasinya dengan membawa kalkulator. Tapi, kemudian, susul dengan kelebihan Anda.

How To Speed Up Your Blogger Blog?

This is my second post about speeding up a blogger/blogspot blog. If you missed out the first one, then click here to have a look at it - Speed Up Your Blogger/Blogspot Blog. I had been working on this topic myself for the past few weeks and few days before, I found a post about the same topic on Google Buzz. I wanted to share some of the tips mentioned there with my readers. Although, this topic deals with terms that sound weird, I have tried my best to keep them as simple as possible because, I always write things aimed at the newbies.

The prerequisites for improving the page speed of your blog would be, to get a few of the Firefox Add-ons working on your computer - Firebug andYSlow. These Add-ons are basically meant to analyze the speed performance of your site. Only when you analyze things, you will know whether you are on the right track or not. So, let me start off with methods which I felt were effective with my blog. I'm sure, it will be effective for your blog as well.

(Note: I have concentrated only on CSS and images in this post. The other methods of improving your blog speed will follow on the next series under the same topic. Make sure you have subscribed to this blog so that, you don't miss any valuable tip for the betterment of your blog.)

1. Changing The CSS Section: I highly recommend you to opt in for CSS sprites because it reduces the number of HTTP requests for your blog. If I start to explain about this, I'm sure either I will go mad or you will become one. So, let's not harm ourselves. I leave it to the link from where I gained a little info about CSS sprites - Image Slicing. I know it is pretty difficult for the newbies to understand. So, what do they do??? Simple. Just visit this site - W3C CSS Validation Service.
Enter your URL and get the report. It will clearly indicate the warnings and the errors regarding the CSS codes . You may avoid the warnings, but not the errors. Try rectifying the errors as much as possible. Alteast, learn why the error showed up and eventually, you will correct them once you understand why showed up, just as I did:)

2. Image Modifications - For a blog to be quick in loading, it is pretty obvious that the images in the blog load faster because images occupy more space when compared to the text. So, how do I load my images faster? Basically, if you reduce the number of images, or crunch them you will reduce the size which in turn, reduces the time it takes to load them, thereby increases the speed. Apart from crunching and reducing the number of images, the following methods will be more effective in increasing the speed of loading your images.

2.1. Serve Scaled Images: It is very simple to understand though it sounds complex. This method basically uses HTML to compress the size of your image. To explain this very clearly, consider the example of attaching a large size wallpaper of dimension (1024x768) to your blogger post. Once you attach it in your post, you will find a smaller image only and not the actual size of the image. This is because, the image has been scaled to fit in your post.

It is very important factor to note that, you can still find the original picture once you click on the picture; which means the original image is loaded, but it has been reduced by some factor to make it load faster in your posts. One image, multiple sizes using HTML implies scaling. This is the basics about scaling of images. You can read a little more about serving scaled images here - Serve scaled images.

2.2. Specifying Image Dimensions And Using Alt Tags: If you feel the first step is pretty complex to adopt, then you definitely need to adopt this technique. This method basically involves adding two tags in the images of your post or blog namely, the "height" and "width" tag. What happens when I add this piece of code? If you specify the dimensions in your "img" tag, then the browser understand that it has to load something in that space of "AxB" dimensions. If the dimensions aren't mentioned, then the browser will have to wait until the complete image is fetched or in other words, say wait until the end of the script.

Apart from specifying the dimensions in your img tag, I recommend you to add "alt" and "title" tags. The alt tag basically provides a text equivalent for the object/image. That is, incase an image has failed to load then, the alternate text will be displayed. This saves time because it prevents the re-hits to the server for loading the images. More over, the title tags will fetch you more traffic through images and makes your blog more SEO friendly. I will explain about this concept in the upcoming posts. 2.3. Minimizing the HTTP requests: In this method, you just need to ensure that all the URLs for your images are placed on the same server. To be more specific, since you blog on blogger and make use of Google Picasa to upload the images in your post, I recommend you to upload all the images related to your blog(including facebook, social bookmarking buttons,etc..) on Picasa. Do not upload on external servers say, Imageshack, Photobucket, etc.. Every image is associated with a HTTP request and every HTTP request consumes time.

So, if your HTTP requests are diverse(each image at different locations), it simply means more time. About 40 to 60% of your daily visitors come with an empty cache, meaning to say that, they load your site for the first time. How To Speed Up Your Blogger

Basically, the speed with which your blog loads is inversely proportional to the time it takes to load. I have explained this post in terms of reducing the load time. I found an article which mentioned that even the site/blog load time contributes significantly to the Google PR. So, how do I find out whether my site load time is quick or slow. If you need an answer to this question, then visit the following link "Website Optimization Speed Report" and enter your URL.

Scroll to the end of the report page and you will notice various sections say TOTAL_HTML, TOTAL_OBJECT and so on. Each section will be highlighted either in red or green or yellow. So, what do they indicate. The report will clearly explain the color and its significance. How ever, I would like to briefly say that, it indicates the areas where you need to concentrate so as to improve the speed of loading your website. Red indicates immediate attention while yellow indicates moderate attention and green signifies an optimal performance.

I suggest you to read each and every line of that report before you proceed with this post. The report will clearly specify what scripts or images can be compressed and how much bytes could be saved by doing so. Once you have analyzed the above report, it is time to take few steps to reduce the load time. Although, there are various methods through which the load time can be reduced, I restrict myself to the most effective methods in this post. Now, let's move on to the methods!!!

1. SIMPLY THE CSS SECTION: This method involves the compression of the CSS section of your blogger template. To do this, just visit the following link "Free Web Based CSS Compressor" and paste the CSS part of your blogger template. Once you paste the code, hit the compress button and you will find the reduced version of the CSS code. Now, replace this code instead of the CSS part of your template and save it. Ensure that, there is no problem after replacing the code by having a preview of your blog.

(Note: Before trying this step, please make a back up of your template. More over, the CSS part of your template is the code which lies between the<b:skin> and </b:skin>code.)

2. POSTS ON HOMEPAGE: The earlier versions of blogger/blogspot blogs did not include the "Read More" hack and people displayed the entire post on the blogs. How ever, this trend has reduced in the new version of blogger to some extent. Still, there are blogs where in , the home page includes so many number of posts that it becomes completely annoying for the visitor who visits the blog. Apart from losing a visitor, you lose the impressions and the bounce rate of your blog also increases. (To know more about Bounce Rate, visit the following link "How To Reduce The Bounce Rate Of Your Blog?"). So, reduce the number of posts on your home page. To do so, navigate to Settings->Formatting from dashboard and enter 4 or 5 for your blog with the "Read More" hack installed in your blog.

3. IMAGES OF YOUR BLOG: The images displayed in your blog play a very vital role in your site load time. The images when hosted at different sites say "Imageshack, Photobucket, etc.." contribute a significant load time. This is due to the diversity of your images, that is, your images have to be fetched from different servers. To avoid this, you may use a single server to host your images. Say use only Photobucket to host all your images. Thereby, you fetch multiple images from only one server and it reduces the load time drastically. Moreover, you may compress the images which you host, thereby the images will load faster than what it did, before compression.

4. AVOID SCRIPTS: The scripts that are included in your blog template also plays a vital role in the loading time of your website. Try to remove the scripts which you feel are unwanted. Apart from the scripts, remove the widgets which are unnecessary from your blog too. So, how do I decide a widget is important or not? Just ask the following questions to your self and you will have a conclusion. Firstly, Does the widget offer some value to your readers? Secondly, Does the widget match with your template, that is, provides an overall professional look? And lastly, Do you receive complains from your blog readers about the widget(say it disturbs them from reading the post)??? If you end up answering "No" to the first two questions or "Yes" to the last question, then I recommend you to remove that widget now!!

I am currently working on this area to reduce the load time of my own blog. As I find out more effective methods, this post will have another series. However, please feel free to share your ideas of reducing the blog load time too via comments.

Few people kept mailing me regarding the rounded corners in blogger/blogspot blogs. They wanted to show rounded corners rather than the straight edges. Since the number of mails kept increasing regarding this tutorial, I thought to make a post about them. Pretty good example to illustrate this would be consider the following boxes. Just look at the corner sections of each box.

The former looks curved while the latter is flat. That's the trick we are going to learn in this post, that is, to add rounded corners on blogger/blogspot blogs. Remember that, this trick will be visible only in the latest versions of Mozilla Firefox, Chrome, Safari and Opera and not in IE. Check out the browser specific attributes table below.

1. Login to your dashboard. Navigate to "Layout>>Edit HTML" from your dashboard. Make a back up of your template before you do any changes in the template.

3 Tips To Make Images SEO Friendly On Blogger

I sat down last night to find out why Wordpress blogs have better search engine rankings when compared to the Google's Blogger. The answer which I found was that Wordpress blogs are highly SEO optimized (especially those run on Thesis Theme), meaning that the plugins on WP make it flexible for the user to optimize his/her blog more compatible with the search engine algorithms. Whereas, this is not the case with blogger.

This post basically deals with one simple trick that will make our blogger/blogspot blogs more search engine friendly. I have sufficiently talked about title tags and meta tags in my previous posts. So, I have discussed only about optimizing our images in this post. Follow these simple steps every time you post an image on your blog and I'm sure your blog will rank better than it did before. Moreover, you will drive traffic through your images by doing this.

Once you upload an image using the post editor, click on the HTML mode. You will find a code something like the one shown below. Its now time to optimize this code for better SEO.

1. ADD THE TITLE TAG

Title tags basically display the text when the mouse is hovered over the image. So, how do I add this tag to my image? It is very simple. Just add the following piece of code and insert the text that best describes the post. For example, I want the message "CSS Tutorials" to get displayed when I hover my mouse over the image on the right. To do this, I should modify/add the code as follows.

2. ADD THE ALT TAG
The alt (alternate) tags are basically those text which appear instead of the image, that is, when the images do not upload faster either due to a slow connection or host problems, these text will be replaced in place of the image. So, it is very vital that every image on your blog has an alt tag. To add this, add the text highlighted in green. For example, my alternate text for the picture above would "CSSEditLogo" and I have highlighted the same in the code below.

3. PROPER IMAGE NAME

The most important factor regarding the SEO would be a proper name to the image. Make sure you include the keywords when you name your image and let it be relevant to the image. It is very important that you avoid spaces because these are generally replaced by %20 and will have no value when it comes to SEO. So, the general idea would be to use '-' or '+' sign for blank spaces.

Example: Instead of CSS Edit Logo, it is better to use CSS+Edit+Logo or CSS-Edit-Logo as your image name. You can completely avoid this confusion by using Yahoo! Smush.it™.

I suggest you to use Yahoo! Smush.it™ before you upload your images to Picasa because it speeds up your blog by decreasing the size of your image. ShoutMix stop their service for Free Member and Kick Freemium

Free service has to stop

Thanks for using ShoutMix for all these year. I have been providing free shoutboxes on the World Wide Web for over 7 years now. It wasn't long before I realized being 100% free is not sustainable. Just before ShoutMix's first birthday, it almost had to be closed.

ShoutMix has tried to work with the freemium business model ever since. Conversion rates were low with the first version. With the second version, things improved and I have had more paying customers. Fortunately people liked the service and started paying for more features.

With that in mind, the new third version was developed to make things better for free and paid users alike. It was developed with lots of feedback from users over the course of several years. Meanwhile my biggest goal remained: to improve conversion rate to keep things sustainable and profitable, all while making ShoutMix a really high quality product for everyone.

One of the most mentioned feedback was that the old free version was too restrictive. Others are less trivial, just make it better, more premium features, more powerful stuff, avatar support, real time push update, really good spam protection, support for really high traffic situations, etc.

Finally, in November 2011, the new version 3 was completed. It was launched successfully and very smoothly. It was a great moment.

During the first month since launch, the reception went really well. New sign ups are in the thousands daily. Just within a month, almost 50,000 users have signed up! Hundreds of thousands of messages posted. Over 10,000 users from Facebook. Generally, users loved the new version. The growth are massive.

So, what went bad?

The conversion rate did not go up. In fact it fell lower. Our stats show 99.93% of users either have no intention to upgrade or are just happy with our free service. Worst of all, some customers have actually stopped paying and switched to our free service! It may seems to be good news for everyone right now, but it is really bad news for all of us.

By offering too much with our free plan, we cannibalized our paid plans. Happy users did not make more paying customers. The projections are bad. Only 0.07% users are customers. These are the people who keep ShoutMix sustainable as a business. Business is the part making ShoutMix exists for everyone. If it keeps on going this way, ShoutMix will not be sustainable any more and will need to close down in the near future.

The freemium model is broken for us.

Some argued that ShoutMix can easily monetize its free service with ads. It has been tried, but the rates were terrible. Beautiful, unobstructive ads do not pay well for ShoutMix. We can probably do better with flashy popup ads, but no thank you. Our competitors do it with popup ads. But there is no way ShoutMix is going to commit such ugly sin.

ShoutMix is becoming more of a premium product. In fact it already has. ShoutMix is designed to be the best in the industry. With passion plus personal investments of time, money and labor of over 7 years, ShoutMix has outgrown the freemium model.

So where do we go from here?

I have two choices. One, allow ShoutMix to become unsustainable. This is bad news for everyone. The other choice is to stop our free service. It is becoming obvious that this is where ShoutMix should go. And so, ShoutMix is not going to be free any more.

Existing users will be able to continue using their accounts at no cost right now. The transition will begin within a few weeks. Eventually, users with free accounts will need to switch to a paying plan or stop using the service. The date is set at January 1, 2012. After this date, free accounts will stop working unless upgraded to a paid plan.

The good news is that ShoutMix will be available for only $0.99/month and will be available effective immediately. For our old version (the Classic) it will only be available in Premium package which costs approximately $1.67/month.

Existing customers are unaffected by all these changes. In fact, ShoutMix is going to be really awesome for our current and future customers. Our focus will be to make paying customers extremely happy and they will get 100% of our resources. If you are one of our customers, things are just going to get a lot better for you.

ShoutMix has always been a product with great passion. It is just unfortunate that it did not work out as a free product. We all have to move on. And ShoutMix will continue to be the most affordable, high quality and premium live chat software that everyone can use and love.

Moving widgets (gadgets) from an old template to a new one!

The most common problem at the time of uploading a new template is that we “lose our widgets”. Is there a way of installing a new template without having to get rid of ourbeloved widgets? The answer is yes, and yes, it’s simple .

1. Go to Layout> Edit HTML and without checking the “Expand widget templates” box, look for this piece of code:

Blogger Team announced their new official blogger lightbox plugin for post images. With this light box you can view your post images and pictures in Light box popup window. This is pretty cool plugin for Images galleries and photographers. However, some blogger don't need to use this plugin (or) already they have a custom Light Box plugin installed. After receiving the Feedback form blogger users, blogger updated the Light box ad added the option to Dashboard. So, you can Disable this plugin with 2 to 3 simple steps.

How To Disable Blogger Lightbox In Old Dashboard

Login to Blogger Old Dashboard -> Settings
Go to Formatting tab
Scroll down to the option Showcase images with Lightbox? and set to No
Save the Settings!

How To Disable Blogger Lightbox In New Interface?

Login to Blogger New Interface -> Click on the Blog More Options Drop-Down -> choose Settings

Nice one, dapet dari blog nya master Tedi Wijaya . Sebelumnya khan saya pernah share juga beberapa script unik in addressbar dan auto accept and ignore friends request . How to block Adblock On Your Blogger/Blogspot Site

I guess that title is a misnomer. I mean, this method doesn't really "block" Adblocksoftware per se, but it certainly does the next best thing! If you don't use Adblock software, then you probably aren't aware of any changes here at Bauer-Power, but if you do use it (I'm looking at you Ryan, and Frank), you probably noticed a nice little message pop up asking you to kindly disable Adblocker when using this site.

For those of you whose arms are tired from shaking your fist in the air while cursing my name, allow me to plead my case a bit. You see, a lot of you come here because you are looking for a solution for something. Maybe you are looking for the right freeware to troubleshoot an issue. Maybe you are looking for a cool online tool to help you complete a task easier. Maybe you Googled an error message you were having, and you landed here at BlogWalker where I helped your ass out. Do you remember me charging you for my services? Hell no! I do this out of the kindness of my heart, in my spare time. The ONLY way I get compensated for helping you is with advertising revenue on the site.

Now, a lot of you Adblock users are simply looking for a pop-up free browsing experience. I agree, pop-ups are annoying, but some of you are just selfish bastards that are trolling the Internet looking for a free lunch. Well guess what jack, lunch aint free! it costs time and money! Advertising allows me to provide content without having to charge you directly!

Anyway, I went ahead and implemented some cool javascript here on Bauer-Power and over at Tech Chop that posts a message to Adblock users pleading my case and kindly asking for them to turn off Adblocker. Take a look at the screen shots for you non-Adblock users:

I originally followed the instructions from Omninoggin on how to set it up. The tutorial is originally for Wordpress, but it works just as well for Blogger. Just paste the code from items 1 and 2 directly under your </head> tag. Paste the code from item 6 right above your </body> tag and you should be set. You will of course need to find a good place to host the files. It worked fine for the Google Chrome Adblock plugin, but not for Firefox's Adblock Plus. I found another one that works for both though at Antiblock.org.

The Antiblock.org script is even easier to implement. Just cut and paste the code right above the </body>tag. For blogger users, you need to run it through this adsense/blogger converter first: (Blogger Adsense Code Converter). I had problems with this script though. Sometimes it worked fine, then others it would display even if AdBlock was disabled. Weird...

Anyhoo, I made my own using a hybrid of two posts, one from Erikswan.net and the other fromCthreepo.com. The one from Erikswan wasn't noticable enough in my opinion. It would display a message, but when I tested it out on an Adblock using friend, he didn't even notice it until i pointed it out. The one from Cthreepo is kind of douchy, and by itself displays the message all the time, Adblocker or not. I decided to marry the two though, and now we have the BlogWalker method for anti-adblocker messages!

Here's what you need to do, paste the following above the ]]></b:skin> tag in your blogger template:

If you are pasting the <script> codes directly in your template, you need to run it through an Adsense to Blogger converter.

What the above code does is looks for the existance of advertisement.js which does absolutely nothing, however based on rules Adblocking software, the software will see that file and will block it. If that file gets blocked, it will appear to the above code as if it's missing. If it's missing, you will receive the pop-up alert with my message. Now, this won't disable Adblocker, and if the user clicks Ok, they can continue to my content. It does, however, let them know that I am not fond of freeloaders.

I know a lot of you guys on the Internet are huge proponents of Adblocker, and before you flame up my comments with hate messages, kindly take a look at these two examples of hypocrisy from the Chrome Adblock plugin creator. Right after the install, this guy hits you up for some money to support development:

So let me get this straight, it's okay for the guy who wrote Adblock to make a living with Internet money, but not me and the rest of the blogging community? Frankly hypocracy like that makes me sick. If you are going to write something that blocks other regular people from making their living online, then you shouldn't get any money either.

Export Wordpress Theme to Blogspot

Blogger does not currently support importing a wordpress blog, but you can still do it easly:

1. Login to your WordPress account and navigate to the Dashboard for the blog that you'd like to transfer to Blogger. Click on the Tools tab > Export link, then download the WordPress WXR export file by clicking on Download Export File and save this file to your local machine.

2. Go to Wordpress2Blogger, browse to that saved document and click Convert and save that file to your local machine. In this file will be the contents of your posts/comments from WordPress in a Blogger export file.

3. Then from your dashboard: Settings > Basic tab and click "Import" to import the converted file.
