To me that is a big punch in the face to Americans all over the U.S. (muslims not included for many reasons). I don't think that President Obama has a good head on his shoulders, because what president in past history would allow this to happen if they were here in present time? I know damn well that president Bush would not have allowed it. You muslims, arabs, or what ever you want to call yourselves have all your gas stations 7/11's and other such stores, and now you want a damn day to yourselves? This is america, not muslimica. If you want your own day why don't you travel back to where your family originated from. In no way shape or form am I racist, nor will I ever be. I am sure that I am not the only American that feels this way. I can almost garuntee that there are many veterans that are reading about this muslim day and saying to themselves that americans fought for this country and muslims fought against it. This is absolutly rediculous. My damn hands are shaking right now because of this. How can one, who calls him self Americas President, punch every american in the face? Obama needs to be impeached immediately and this muslim day needs to be stopped!

Okay, I am a true american and I am completely distraught over the fact that this ‘muslum’ day is being celebrated the day after September 11th. Its very easy to say ICNA should take the responsibility and unity and other things but in reality its not that simple. Let me try to explain what I am trying to say: 1. Even if ICNA takes this responsibility (what they did in past)not all of us will be happy then some other people will come and comment that ICNA should not be involved in these kind of things and it actually breaks harmony within local communities. So its not easy to make every one happy. 2. If ICNA decides Local moon sighting then people who follow global will not like it and vise versa. More over Local and global has many definitions, so which local if local moon sighting option is choosed (Local means Northa America, USA only, Solar Time zones, Lunar time zones etc etc) 3. Unity? Its a good thing, isn't it? But there are many dimensions to it. Even If we all pray EID on same day (hypothetically) we still cant call it a unity because as soon as we are done with EID, every masjid becomes an independent state again. Most of the masaajid unfortunately have no connection to each other. Every masjid has its own rules and regulation and no one is ready to compromise on it. So unity of one day and disunity of 364 days can not be called UNITY. This is just a satisfaction to our heart for a few moments and nothing else. 4. If ICNA announce any method for moon sighitng then just think what happens in our local communities. I have seen brothers disputing and one going to one masjid and other going to other masjid the next day. They are going to do the same even if ICNA announce any one method. Guess who gets the blame? Its ICNA. Only one group may coincide with ICNA but all the rest will be saying things against ICNA's method. This way ICNA looses respect and are in lost in general regarding other good projects.I hope I was able to explain a little bit what I felt. I apologize if it has caused any inconvenience to any one. Secondly these are mere my thoughts, just ignore it if you think I am wrong on this one. But do pray for me as I need it all the time. Jazak Allah O Kahiran for your time anyway.

Actually in contrary to many comments, I agree with ICNA totally to leave it to their local communities. Alhamidullah, may Allah, swt, reward you for your work. It may be helpful to cite the passage in Qur'an in surah Nisa that clearly states the obligation for sisters to wear hijab. This will reinforce your point that hijab is obligatory and not optional as sometimes as it is viewed. Its important as muslim sisters that we do not adopt the way of khafirs that includes the manner in which we dress. There is much beauty in a women who is covered modestly for the sake of Allah, swt. May allah, swt, accept your fasting during this month of Ramhadan.

AsallAamu alaikum,
Ramhadan mubarak. Ground Zero, a monument of 9/11, demands respect and honor from all class of citizens, just like any church, synagogue, mosque or temple. Freedom of religion does not mean hurting the feelings of our neighbors. Insistence on construction of the mosque near Ground Zero can be rightful under American Constitution; it is never rightful under the Islamic traditions. Instances are many and they are spread throughout the pages of Islamic history. The traditions of Islam, as set by the Prophet and his companions, call for overall peace and understanding in human society in preference to group or community interests. That is how his leadership was willingly accepted in the multi-religious, multi-ethnic society in Medina. He would not even hesitate in making compromises for the larger cause of peace and settlement. Thus he agreed to drop the suffix ''messenger of Allah'' in his name when negotiating the most ignoble peace Treaty at Hudebiya with his arch enemy, Quraish of Makka. We must avoid doing things which do not promote tension-free relationship amongst Muslims, Christians and others, which is the need of the hour, in the United States at this time. The mosque within the projected Community Center, if built near Ground Zero, will never build the confidence and understanding between Muslims of America and Christian America. The administrators of the mosque need review their plan and opinion if they really want display the spirit of Islam. Better to have no mosque or Islamic center not built on piety and tolerance. Muslims deserve a day just for fun. It's not fair. Jewish people have the day off when it's Rosh Hashanah. Christian people get a whole week off for Christmas. Why can't we get one day off for Eid? When we celebrate during the summer, there is still is contervarsy? This is BS.

I really think what ICNA is doing is great.
