Vision needs filtering background from foreground and determining things illustrated in a wide array of directions.&lt;br /&gt;

The neural means of visual sensitivity provide rich awareness about how the brain maneuvers such difficult situations.&lt;br /&gt;

&lt;b&gt;Working:&lt;/b&gt;&lt;br /&gt;
&lt;br /&gt;
Visual perception starts as soon as your eye targets light onto the &lt;a href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Retina" id="aptureLink_nM1twy9H1a"&gt;retinas&lt;/a&gt;, wherein it is attracted by a coating of photoreceptor cells. These cells create electrochemical indicators from light. These cells are of two types namely cone cells and rod cells.&lt;br /&gt;
&lt;br /&gt;
Rod cells assist for night vision, as they respond well to dull lighting conditions. Rods are present in the tangential portions of your retina.&lt;br /&gt;
&lt;br /&gt;
On the other hand, cone cells focus themselves in a core portion of retina known as fovea, as they help in high visual acuity jobs such as reading and distinguishing between colors. There are three subcategories in cones based on their reactions with blue, green, or red light. All these three cone varieties help us to recognize colors.&lt;br /&gt;
&lt;br /&gt;
Next, the signals originated from the photoreceptor cells are forwarded through a network of interneurons in the second coating of your retina spread towards the ganglion cells present in the third coating.&lt;br /&gt;
&lt;br /&gt;
Further, neurons present in both these retinal coatings display intricate receptive fields that allow them to determine contrast alterations in a picture. These alterations might also hint for borders or shadows. Conversely, ganglion cells collect these details along with the details of color to pass them onto the brain through optic nerves.&lt;br /&gt;
&lt;br /&gt;
The &lt;a href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Optic%20nerve" id="aptureLink_suHDaz2T09"&gt;optic nerve&lt;/a&gt; passes details via the thalamus towards the cerebral cortex, the place where visual perception takes place. On the other hand, nerves also transport details needed for the mechanics of vision to a couple of sites in the brainstem.&lt;br /&gt;
The first site is called the pretectum, which controls the size of pupils, whereas the second site is called as the superior colliculus, which helps your eyes to move in short leaps, known as saccades.&lt;br /&gt;
&lt;br /&gt;
In addition, saccades facilitate the brain to distinguish a smooth scan by combining a sequence of stationary pictures.&lt;br /&gt;
&lt;br /&gt;
Several signals from the retina pass through the optic nerve to the thalamus known as the lateral geniculate nucleus (LGN) positioned at the core of your brain. Next, the LGN classifies retinal signals into parallel flows, with one containing color and structure, and other containing motions and difference.&lt;br /&gt;
&lt;br /&gt;
Out of the six layers of the LGN, four are known as parvocellular layers, whereas the remaining two are known as magnocellular layers.&lt;br /&gt;
&lt;br /&gt;
Cells present in the parvocellular and magnocellular layers travel to the back of brain to the primary visual cortex (V1). In addition, the arrangement of cells in V1 allows the visual system to analyze objects.&lt;br /&gt;
&lt;br /&gt;
Finally, V1 is structured into orientation columns with heap of cells. One reason is that cats have more rods than cones in their retinas, unlike humans, making kitty's night and motion vision superior. (Rods are the receptors that the eye uses for nighttime viewing and sudden movement; cones are used during the daytime and process color information.)&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;Also, cats' pupils are shaped differently than those of humans (they are elliptical rather than round), which allows for a much larger pupil size. In fact, the most notable feature of nocturnal animals is the size of their eyes. The reason for this is that large eyes can collect more ambient light. Fun fact: An owl's eyes fill over half of its skull!&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;As well, cats' eyes open and close much faster than do ours. And cats have a special membrane on the back of their eyes (called the tapetum lucidum, literally meaning "bright carpet") that increases the quantity of light caught by the retina. The tapetum collects and re-emits light back to the retina, giving the rods a second chance to absorb the image, thus maximizing their sensitivity to low light levels. Next, after remembering the letter with the eyes closed and covered, and while still holding the mental picture of it, look at a blank surface a foot or more to the side of it, at the distance at which you wish to see it. Again close and cover the eyes and remember the letter, and on opening them look a little nearer to it.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;Gradually reduce the distance between the point of fixation and the letter, until able to look directly at it and imagine it as well as it is remembered with the eyes closed and covered. The letter will then be seen perfectly, and other letters in its neighborhood will come out. If unable to remember the whole letter, you may be able to imagine a black period as forming part of it. &lt;a href="http://feedads.g.doubleclick.net/~a/6x_3FDuWBW8q0IuG6-Uqa9MzKQo/1/da"&gt;&lt;img src="http://feedads.g.doubleclick.net/~a/6x_3FDuWBW8q0IuG6-Uqa9MzKQo/1/di" border="0" ismap="true"&gt;&lt;/img&gt;&lt;/a&gt;&lt;/p&gt;A study published in the American Journal of Epidemiology suggests a diet heavy in red meat may increase the risk of age-related macular degeneration, a leading cause of blindness.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;Researchers at the University of Melbourne in Australia evaluated associations between red meat and chicken intake and AMD, in a cohort study of 6,734 people aged 58 to 69.  Meat intake was estimated from a food frequency questionnaire; bilateral digital macular photographs were taken and evaluated for AMD.  Of the group, 1,680 participants had cases of early AMD and 77 had cases of late AMD.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;It was discovered that participants who ate 10 or more portions of red meat each week were nearly 50 percent more likely to experience deterioration of the retina. You'll read more, watch TV less; take up sailing or knitting or golfing or whatever "ing" you've always wanted to try but never made time for; forgo your daily latte to save for that Caribbean cruise. Ah, New Year's resolutions!&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;&lt;div style="text-align: center; font-style: italic;"&gt;&lt;a href="http://www.your-vision-care.com/"&gt;Rebuild Your Vision Program&lt;/a&gt;&lt;/div&gt;&lt;br /&gt;We've written this article in hopes of inspiring you to dust off the eye-patch, grab the string-beads, and get back to (or start for that matter) improving your vision with the Rebuild Your Vision Program. Just 25 minutes a day is all it takes. As Webster's puts it, a resolution is not just a promise you make to yourself but also "the process or capability of making distinguishable the individual parts of an object, closely adjacent optical images, or sources of light" - in other words, reducing things to a simpler form, so you can see them more clearly. Because when you see your goals clearly, you can more easily achieve them.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;span style="font-weight: bold;"&gt;Need further incentives?&lt;/span&gt;&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;Improve your vision and you improve your life. A 2003 Australian study found that "after the age of 40, the amount of eye disease, visual impairment, or blindness increases threefold with each decade. Even a moderate level of visual impairment - that is, less than 6/12 (20/40) - has a significant impact on the ability of people to enjoy healthy aging."&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;Save hundreds, if not thousands of dollars on eye care. Last year, Americans shelled out $15.4 billion for eyewear, according to the nonprofit Vision Council of America. All About Vision notes, "Expect to pay about a dollar a day for continuous wear contacts," and "by October 2003 the overall average price of LASIK had risen to $1,710."&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;So what are you waiting for? Start now with this list of multilevel goals:&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;  *&lt;span style="font-weight: bold;"&gt;Goal 1: &lt;/span&gt;Prevent further deterioration of your vision and reduce your dependency on glasses or contacts.
