For our camera strap, which is probably the easiest thing you will ever make, choose two strips of fabric. Again I’m using Reunion Jelly Roll Sweetwater for Moda, still working with the same roll.

Measure your camera strap, the part I wanted to cover for mine was 24 1/2″ so I cut a piece off each strip that was 25 1/2″.

Iron an sew both ends of both strips, wrong sides together, making sure when it’s ironed it will be as long as you’d like your strap.

Take the two strips, right sides together and stitch down both sides. Turn your tube right side out, iron and put it on your camera strap. Easy peasy. If you’re a ruffle kinda gal, which I am not, you can add a ruffle using another strip, or maybe sewing your two remaining pieces together to make a multi-colored ruffle.

Anyway, the first time I had this recipe was when my cousin made it for my wedding. I think she made two crock pots. Everyone loved it and kept asking for more. When it was gone people were still looking for it. It was that good. So I asked her how to make it and now we eat it at least twice a month.

All you need is two packages of kielbasa, one small jar of grape jelly and two 18oz jars of BBQ sauce. I use one regular and one honey.

Slice the kielbasa, throw everything into the crock pot around 10am and it’ll be ready by 5pm. I usually cook it on low until about 2 or 3 then put it on high. Sometimes when I’m feeling frisky I cook it on high all day long, which makes the kielbasa… hmm… I want to say soggy but that is not the right word. The kielbasa absorbs more of the BBQ sauce the longer you cook it… I guess that’s the way to put it.

It is sooo good.

For this project you’ll need to choose four strips from your jelly roll. Again I’m using Reunion Jelly Roll Sweetwater for Moda, still working with the same roll… project number four and still more to go! There really is a lot of fabric in one jelly roll. It’s pretty amazing, really.

Basically you’re going to sew your strips together, in whichever way you choose, to make an 8″ x 8″ square. Make two of these, one for the outside, one for the lining. You’ll also need an 8″ x 8″ piece of fusible web for the outer case.

For my flap I sewed two 6″ strips together, sewed along the sides and the bottom, then went back and sewed diagonally across the corners to get that shape. Turn right side out and iron.

Using two pieces of another strip, each approximately 4 1/2″, sew those two strips right sides together at the sides and one end, again I went back and sewed the end into a point. turn right side out.

Place the 4 1/2″ point centered on top of the flap and stitch about 1/8 – 1/4″ from the sides of the point, this will both finish the point so it looks nice and attach it to the flap at the same time.

Take your 8″ x 8″ outer bag and fold it in half right sides together. Sew along the two sides. Do the same with your lining.

With your outer case right side out and your lining wrong side out, create a 1/4″ cuff on both.

Drop your lining bag into the outer case, wrong sides together. Pin around the front. Slip your flap in between the lining and outer bag and pin in place. Stitch about an 1/8″ from the top. Attach your velcro pieces (I used iron-on velcro because I couldn’t find my stitch in place velcro).

Here you have your eyeglasses case and leftover strips.

Today’s “What can you make with a jelly roll?” project is a thread catcher using four strips from your jelly roll. I am still working with the same jelly roll as the other projects: Reunion Jelly Roll Sweetwater for Moda. Remember the point of this series is to see just how much you can make with a single jelly roll, other than a quilt.

First, pick four strips of fabric from your jelly roll that you’d like to use for your thread catcher.

Take strip one and cut two 16″ long pieces.
Take strip two and cut two 16″ pieces.

Sew the four strips together, alternating them, to create a single panel of fabric. Iron your seams and iron on a piece of fusible web.

Fold your panel up, matching strip seams:

Sew down the two sides, leaving the top open. Box your corners at 1 1/4″. With the right side out, fold the top of your bag to the inside creating a cuff… about 1/2″. Iron the cuff.

Repeat for your lining fabric, without the fusible web, and make sure the wrong side is out when folding the cuff. Fold the cuff to the outside this time.

Take your two remaining strips, the strips that match the lining, and sew those two strips, right sides together, down both long ends. Turn your tube right side out, iron, and sew about 1/4″ from each edge. Fold this in half and cut at the half mark, creating two hanging panels.

Take your remaining two strips, the ones that match the outside of the bag, and sew them, right sides together, down one long end. Do not open the pieces. Fold them in half, so that the short ends meet, and cut at the half mark. Iron your seams.

Next, sandwich your hanging panels between your pillow pieces, making sure the pillow pieces are right sides together. The hanging panels are long so I folded one end up and pinned so that I would not sew thru it accidentally.

Sew around your pillow pieces, leaving an opening at the end opposite the hanging panels. Clip your corners, turn right side out and iron. Your pillow piece should look like this:

I added a 1/4″ of rice to my pillow to weigh it down. I’m not 100% sure this was necessary but I did it anyway. Then I filled the pillow the rest of the way with batting. Either hand sew the opening closed, or if you despise hand sewing like I do, take it to your machine to sew the opening closed.

Put your lining inside the outer bag, wrong sides together. Pin around the front and the sides. Insert your hanging panels into the back side of your bag between the two layers and pin in place. Take the whole contraption to your machine and sew around the top edge.

You will not have any leftovers from the strips you choose for this project.

** side note: I did notice that because the table I sew on is wood that my thread catcher wanted to slide off the table. I’m thinking I need to maybe add a few dots of hot glue to the bottom of my pillow to make it non-slip. **

First, choose six strips for one side of your bag:

You want to cut those strips in half, then sew them together so you have a striped panel of fabric.

Next, once you’ve ironed your seams flat, you’ll iron on some fusible web. Once you’ve done that, fold your fabric panel in half matching strip seams. Sew a seam on long end and across the bottom. Box your corners at one inch.

Now pick six more strips and do the same as above, minus the fusible web.

Fold the top edges of your bags toward the wrong side, making a half inch “cuff”. Iron well. Drop the bag without the fusible web inside the bag with fusible web, wrong sides together.

Now pick four pieces from your leftover strips as a handle for your bag. You’ll want two that match one side of the bag and two that match the other side of the bag.

Sew your two strips together on the short end, creating one long strip. Add fusible web to one of the strips. Sew your strips, right sides together, lining up the center seam. Turn right side out, iron well and stitch about a quarter inch along each end.

Pin your strap, making sure that the sides match {if your bag is red on the inside, make sure the red part of your strap is also on the inside}. Adjust your strap to the length you want and pin in place. Also pin your bags together all the way around.

At this point you should basically have your finished bag, only not stitched together. Take this to your machine an stitch around the opening about an eighth of an inch from the top.

Once you’re finished, you should have something like this, and leftover strips:

Remember it’s reversible!!

First, I laid the strips out on my table.

That’s a whole lot of fabric.
For my first project I choose four strips (I think that’s the hardest part… choosing! It’s so hard to choose, they are all so scrumptious!!). I wanted to use strips and nothing else. I added a zipper and some fusible web, of course, but other than that, the only fabric used was the strips.

You can see, of the four strips used, what I have leftover.

How cute is that, the striped coin purse!? I think it’s totally adorable. Mr Panda thinks so too.

We have told them we are going “somewhere” during school vacation, but haven’t told them where. They’ve made a ton of guesses, including Lego Land and California. Sorry, nope! Gillian guessed correctly but of course we told her she was wrong.

Not only do they not know WHERE we are going, they also don’t know that Bryan’s father will be meeting us there! We do love Grampa, he’s so much fun with the kids.

This morning I went ahead and booked our vacation package. That was quite the process. I did finally find a live chat button and spoke to a lovely women who was incredibly helpful and walked me thru everything. She even tried to get me to save money using a military discount when she realized we were military, but I told her I’d already checked the tickets and sales office and there are no discounts for the dates we are going.

I didn’t get a dining package because our resort has a fully-equipped kitchen and adding the smallest dining package, for six people, one quick meal and one snack per person per day added almost $2,000 onto the bill. Um, no thanks, I’ll just bring my own groceries!! I can get a week’s worth of groceries for about a hundred bucks. I think I’ll do that.

We’ll probably still eat out, I’m sure Bryan’s dad will want to eat out. At the very least we will eat out to lunch, but breakfast and dinner I can make myself.

Anyway, I am so super excited. I have been to Disney World before, not in one of the resorts for a week long stay, but when I was about 10 my grandfather brought me. He and my Gram lived in Florida and they lived close. I spent the summer with them and my Grampa and I went to Sea World and Magic Kingdom and Busch Gardens. Gram didn’t go because she couldn’t handle the heat.

I don’t remember a whole lot about it, that whole summer is just bits and pieces in my memory, but I did go. I remember having fun.

So I am as excited, or maybe  more excited, than I think the kids will be.

I ordered the insurance too just in case Bryan’s leave is pulled or something and we have to cancel, we’ll be fully reimbursed. It’s worth the extra money to me.

I wanted to stay at the Animation Resort because it looks like a lot of fun for kids, but they are booked for our dates, so we booked the Cabin’s at Fort Wilderness. We don’t imagine we will be spending much time in the room anyway so I’m not too upset that the Animation Resort was booked. They had some Deluxe Resorts but honestly, cost aside, they look too rich for my taste. I think the Cabin’s will feel a bit like visiting home (New Hampshire).

Now I wish I could fast forward to the day we leave so we can go already. I can’t wait.

Oh right, you’re going to rear-end me at 55 mph, that’s what you’re going to do!

Let me tell you something, at 55mph I’m already speeding, for one, two… I cannot go any faster than the car {two car lengths} in front of me, and three… getting on my ass just pisses me off and WILL. NOT. make me speed up.

As a matter of fact, when you ride my ass I take my foot off the gas pedal, which in turns slows my car down.

Oh, you thought I was just a crazy driver who randomly slows down so she can check out the lack of scenery?

Nope, I just do it to irritate you.

I seriously can’t stand idiot drivers. How did they even get their license in the first place?

Most of the time when this happens, they end up speeding by me, at least 70 or 80mph, and by the time I get to the red light, there they are, just sitting there, they got there a whole 10 seconds before I did.

Are those ten seconds really worth risking the lives of the people around you?

I’m not a person who is ever late for an appointment, but on the off chance I’m having a bad day and I am late, nobody has ever said to me “Woah there Miss Thang, you’re TEN SECONDS LATE!!!!”

It’s never happened, seriously, not even one time.

And if you’re headed to Walmart, what’s the rush? IT’S WALMART!

I guess I can understand if your pregnant wife is birthing in the back seat, but most of the cars riding me are too small to fit a pregnant woman in the back seat.

They also have sexy lingerie, which isn’t really my thing, since I’ve had three children and don’t exactly feel as comfortable in my skin as I used to, but they have this really cute satin pajama set that I’m going to get. I don’t think it’s the worst idea, my husband thinks I’m beautiful the way that I am, even when I’m just wearing baggy sweats and one of his over-sized t-shirts, but I think he might like this better. Don’t you think?

I mean, if you want to buy sex toys, you can do that too.
