Believe it or not, I had a Nook emergency today at work. I needed a Nook e-reader, and I needed it now. (Long story.) How great that Best Buy in Georgetown, TX carries Nooks and other e-readers like Kindles! It cost the same to buy it locally as it would have cost to shop online… but it came with instant gratification and the knowledge that I was doing my part to help keep Georgetown people employed.

A Delicious Chicken Caesar Salad

Last week, I met a friend for lunch at Roots Bistro on 8th Street on the Georgetown Square. (The Most Beautiful Town Square in Texas!) I ordered a chicken Caesar salad. The lettuce was crispy, the dressing was delicious, and the chicken was cooked perfectly. The atmosphere was great for a casual business lunch. With vaulted ceilings, this restaurant has nice acoustics, so you can have an actual conversation. I’ll be back!

On the Facebook page for The Caring Place (www.facebook.com/thecaringplace), they posted a picture of garage shelving, so I rushed right over. I got much-needed extra storage for my garage for just $8, and then I found this beautiful light fixture. I didn’t even know I needed it, but there it was! Couldn’t resist.

Today, the City of Georgetown announced a new brand and logo for our incredible town – and it’s perfect! Georgetown does, indeed, have the Most Beautiful Town Square in Texas! I rushed right over to the Visitors Center on 7th Street (one away from the corner of Main) to buy this hand-thrown stoneware mug with our new logo. It’s only $15, and because they’re handmade, no two are exactly alike. I wanted to buy two, but I only had a $20, and the Visitors Center doesn’t take credit cards. Bring cash… and hurry! What a great gift for locals and for out of town guests!

A Calphalon Wok plus Handmade Scarves

Accents on the Square, a resale gift shop, has a little bit of everything. Yesterday, I bought a beautiful Calphalon wok in perfect condition for just $22. (They retail for over $100!) I also spotted these gorgeous handmade scarves, which are priced at $6-12. Think of the time that went into these beautiful scarves. What a bargain!

Milano’s Trattoria at Wolf Ranch Town Center in Georgetown is now serving calzones! Their pizza is delicious; I have high hopes for the calzones!

G-Town Burger from The 50/50 on the Georgetown Square

Tonight, while walking along the Georgetown Square, we discovered that a new restaurant and wine bar, The 50/50, is now open! We took a peek at the menu, liked what we saw, and headed inside. What a treat! The burgers were cooked to order. This is the G-Town Burger. Another in our party had the Wild Cuban Burger with a special 50/50 twist. The chicken Caesar salad was delicious. Appetizers included fun options like Potachos, which are basically nachos made with kettle chips. YUM!

This Saturday, January 14 2012, a live jazz ensemble will entertain guests at The 50/50. Because the restaurant hasn’t received their liquor license yet, they said that people can bring their own bottle of wine this weekend.

This out-of-town visitor was delighted to discover Diva Chicks Artful Boutique on one of her frequent visits to Georgetown. Now she makes a point to stop at Diva Chicks every time she’s in town. You’ll find lots of stylish clothing and accessories, including really great purses, hats, scarves (on special last week… stop by to see if they still are), jewelry… If you haven’t been to Diva Chicks yet, you really should stop by. They’re located at 109 E 7th Street, just off the Georgetown Square, across from Dia Thai Restaurant and in between Golf on the Square and Galaxy Bakery and Coffeehouse.

A Glass Bird, Mid-Flight

I discovered this beautiful, delicate bird at Through the Looking Glass Gallery on 8th Street in Georgetown, Texas, just off the Square. This bird makes me feel happy! I was very impressed with the glassworks, paintings, ceramics, and jewelry in the gallery.
