IU Set to Open Bloomington Incubator

Indiana University is moving forward on its new initiative to expand economic development across the state with the opening of a $10 million facility. The 40,000 square-foot Bloomington Incubator will offer start-up companies office space, as well as traditional and wet laboratories. The facility will be operated by the IU Research and Technology Corp., which also oversees the IU Emerging Technologies Center (IUETC) in Indianapolis.

The leader of an Indiana-based medical devices company says the firm is ready to take advantage of the state's growing arsenal of intellectual and infrastructure resources to further its commercialization efforts. Nanovis, Inc., which is headquartered in Columbia City and has offices at the Purdue Research Park in West Lafayette, has entered an agreement to work with Purdue's Birck Nanotechnology Centerto improve the interactive process between medical implants and human tissues for reducing rejection or infection.

Innovation Park "is Ready to Go"

The initial building in the state's first two-site Certified Technology Park is nearly ready to open. Crews at Innovation Park at Notre Dame is putting the final touches on a three-story, 55,000 square foot structure that is expected to create 17 to 23 permanent, full-time jobs and one part-time job during its initial year with an annual payroll of $1.15 million to $1.45 million.

WestGate @ Crane Welcomes Growth

A Purdue Research Park company is taking its cancer therapy into a new round of testing. Endocyte, Inc. has entered a randomized Phase II clinical study of its investigational drug EC145. More than 50 clinical centers in the U.S., Canada and eastern Europe are participating. The company opened an office in Indianapolis and added to its staff in preparation for the study.

Innovation Pointe, a high-tech business incubator in downtown Evansville operated by Growth Alliance for Greater Evansville (GAGE), recently added five new companies to its roster of clients. In addition, GAGE President and Chief Executive Officer Joe Wallace says two existing companies have expanded their operations as the incubator adds a new floor of operations. “We had all of our incubation efforts on the second floor, and we've finished construction of the third floor,” he says. “That has doubled our floor space for incubation.”

A significant expansion of the Northeast Indiana Innovation Center in Fort Wayne will soon be underway. The addition will include 31,000 square feet of new space for as many as 13 clients. The Emerging Growth Center project is being primarily funded through $5 million in state funding, although the center is trying to raise up to $1 million in additional funding for projects such as an amphitheater for outdoor classes. Officials hope to have clients occupying the new building by the end of the October.
