Inventrek Technology Park in Kokomo has received a major grant from the Indiana Economic Development Corp. The funds are provided through the Technology Development Grant program and are being used to help the park grow and attract new high-tech ventures.

The Indiana Economic Development Corp. has recertified three of the state’s 18 Certified Technology Parks (CTP). The CTPs approved for continuing operations are located in the Purdue Research Park in West Lafayette, the Flagship Enterprise Center in Anderson and Intelliplex Park in Shelbyville.

A significant expansion of the Northeast Indiana Innovation Center in Fort Wayne will soon be underway. The addition will include 31,000 square feet of new space for as many as 13 clients. The Emerging Growth Center project is being primarily funded through $5 million in state funding, although the center is trying to raise up to $1 million in additional funding for projects such as an amphitheater for outdoor classes. Officials hope to have clients occupying the new building by the end of the October.

Certified Technology Park Oversight Bill Expected to Strengthen Program

In this past legislative session, the Indiana State Senate unanimously passed a bill that will provide greater oversight of Indiana’s certified technology parks. House Bill 1424 is expected to strengthen the Certified Technology Park Program by expanding the governance role of the Indiana Economic Development Corporation (IEDC) and create a certification expiration and renewal process. Indiana State Senator Timothy S. Lanane (D-Anderson), a sponsor of the bill, commented there are several high achieving parks and all the parks should be modeled along the lines of striving for excellence.
