You get down in Hosur and board Tamil Nadu State Coporation Bus to Bangalore and you are amazed to see the movie continues here....?!!$#@%

This is what is happening in Tamil Nadu Governement Transport Corporation buses... They are all networked so that at a given point-of-time, all buses will be playing the same video which is almost like a satellite TV. Actually this setup also has a brand name "Boom TV" with caption "The next BIG Medium". This name comes from Build, Own, Operate and Maintain concept. Under this concept, private contractors would have to remit Rs. 262 a bus for a month for the broadcast rights and maintain the television sets and telecast the programmes

Thanks to Proxs Info for Technology, Peacock Media for OOH Idea, Airtel GPS (Platform).

All these buses are equipped with LCD Tv's connected to Windows PC's which run PxlView software. The moment this setup is switched on, Machine boots with PxlView -> Dials a predefined number through Airtel GPS modem -> Connects to PxlView Server -> Downloads the playlist which has details like which video or ad to play at what time -> Video Starts.

The LCD television with a unique inbuilt set top box would download the contents in compressed and encrypted files of MP4 and AV format while entering or halting at the wireless fidelity enabled depot. The contents can be adjusted according to the area within the stipulated time slots through GPS, which would allow local advertisement and contents to be displayed. Besides instant messages and warning could also be sent to the buses from the control room

Contractor taking up the work on BOOM concept could telecast commercial information, advertisements, road safety messages, important news items and announcements relating to public sector and government departments. The LCD plasma screens would be controlled from Chennai through GPS modem from a control room and the Government could run scroll messages of news value and government announcements. Programmes for telecast would be set every day through the GPS modem.

This project is a initiative of Pallavan Transport Consultancy Services

More info about this Product: http://www.proxsinfo.com/pxlview.php?id=1&b=1

The only disadvantage is that if you travel on Friday to Bangalore and travel back to Chennai on Sunday, you might see the same movie or video being played during both these journey :) Kind'a frustrating....

Here is a promotional video about BOOM Tv:

Screenshots:

<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 319px; height: 320px;" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/_BGmAmW6MrgI/S5M8AcLKoQI/AAAAAAAABKs/ZvMzxfyHeM8/s320/Boom_1.JPG" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5445762352681754882" />
Article originally published at http://indianinternetguru.blogspot.com/

Government of India Online Grievance forum - Book your complaints here

Couple of months back, the Faridabad Municipal Corporation laid new roads in his area and the residents were very happy about it. But 2 weeks later, BSNL dug up the newly laid roads to install new cables which annoyed all the residents.. A resident used the above listed grievance forum to highlight his concern.. To his surprise, BSNL and Municipal Corporation of Faridabad were served a show cause notice and the guy received a copy of the notice in one week. Government has asked the MC and BSNL about the goof up as it's clear that both the government departments were not in sync at all. So use this grievance forum and educate others who don't know about this facility. This way we can at least raise our concerns instead of just talking about the 'System' in India . Invite your friends to contribute for many such happenings.

Cheap and Best method for Pest Control - Cockroaches, Mosquitos, Flies will be no more...

Mix it 3-4 spoons of boric acid with 1 spoon sugar and a little water and milk and make paste out of it. Put it in a match box sort of a container and keep it in 4-5 places not easily reachable by kids. Insects will vanish and will not return for several months. It causes severe dehydration in insects and they die in the nests. Since insects eat each other the effect will be visible for several months.

Adding some more. If you have too many insects. Spray the liquid mixture of water, boric acid and a little sugar directly into the cracks where you suspect roaches have nests. This would be more effective.

It is safe for kids and has no smell but still keep it away from kids.

There are other paid methods like Godrej Hi-Care and other private agents whom will charge big amount but this technique is cheap and best.

Search about Boring Power and how it helps controlling pests, here...

Best Route from Coimbatore to Bangalore

Also the Reserve Bank of India has said that not more than Rs 10,000 can be withdrawn each time they are used.

The apex bank has sent a communication in this regard to Indian Banks' Association (IBA) and this is expected to be implemented shortly, IBA Chief Executive K Ramakrishnan said.

The Indian Banks Association (IBA), the representative organisation of private and public sector banks in India, has proposed that instead of allowing an unlimited number of free transactions at another bank's ATM, there should be a limit of up to five free transactions a month.

"Beyond five transactions, we propose to levy a transaction fee of Rs.20 per transaction for using another bank's ATM," said IBA deputy chief executive K Unnikrishnan.

The Reserve Bank of India (RBI) has accepted the IBA proposal, but it will be implemented only by October, Unnikrishnan said on Friday.

An RBI spokesperson confirmed the development.

"It will be optional on the part of the banks to levy this charge on customers. We have not made it mandatory but left it to their (banks') discretion," Unnikrishnan said.

He explained that since the RBI's permission has been taken, it would not be improper on the part of banks to levy the charges if they wanted.

There are a little over 40,000 ATMs in India, of which nearly 30,000 are in urban centres and metros. The remaining 10,000 are in semi-urban centres with only a sprinkling in rural areas.

There are around 80 public sector, private, cooperative and foreign participating banks in the ATM network in the country.

After the ATM transactions fees on using other banks' ATMs was scrapped in April, the IBA studied the entire gamut of ATM transactions.

"We found that a majority of the ATM transactions were in the range of average withdrawals of Rs.3,500-4,000, and 90 percent of all transactions were below Rs.10,000. Hence, the intended purpose to serve the common man was achieved," Unnikrishnan said.

However, there was a small minority of users who withdrew very large sums on account of high card limits given by some banks to privileged customers.

At the other extreme, there were some customers who withdrew miniscule amounts, or made other kinds of inquiries. This created several logistics problems causing avoidable expenditure for banks at the cost of the common user, he said.

Taking into account these and related aspects, the IBA submitted a proposal to RBI last month.

"We shall give sufficient notice to the customers before implementing it, and individual banks can also inform their customers about the proposal and whether or not they would charge their customers. It will give time to effect suitable modifications in the ATM programmes to implement it," Unnikrishnan said.

Email Attachment or Online conversion for Adobe PDF documents

You can now get any vehicle's details from RTO.

Just SMS, RTO followed by registration no. (Example: RTO KA-05-MR-7678) to 56006.

This will be very useful in hit & run cases. Pass it on to as many people you know This works well for Karnataka (KA) registered vehicles.

SMS charge will be Rs.3.

Note- It still returns old owner name incase car is sold

News Sources

DECCAN CHRONICLE

Bengaluru, May 15: Transport commissioner Bhaskar Rao has allayed fears that the SMS service being offered by the RTO to track hit-and-run offenders will instead prove to be a blessing in disguise for those keen on ‘tracking’ girls.

The service was launched by the RTO on Thursday to help citizens with details of vehicles involved in hit-and- run cases. Fears were expressed that it would help in conveying personal details especially pertaining to girls.

Anyone can obtain the information on a vehicle owner by sending the registration number to 56006. Within seconds, the name of the vehicle owner and the contact address will be displayed on the SMS sender’s mobile screen helping the public to lodge a police complaint. What is worrying many is the fact that this information could also be easily obtained by a mischief monger.

But Mr Rao brushed aside the fear of the information being misused. He said that only the name of the vehicle owner, the engine number and the chassis number will be provided while replying to the SMS sent to 56006.
“To check how effective the SMS system is, all details of vehicles are being provided for another 10 days. Later, limited information will be provided to the sender and the public need not fret over this,” he said.
The SMS facility was announced by transport minister R. Ashok.
Details of 16 lakh vehicles (registration numbers starting with KA-01, KA-02, KA-03, KA-04 and KA-05) have been stored in the database.
The details of around 70 lakh vehicles will be uploaded in the next eight months. The information on all vehicles which were registered before February 15 has already been uploaded. Vehicles with registration numbers up to KA – 55 will be added shortly, Mr Rao said.
Similarly, the insurance details of all vehicles will be made available. This will help bring insurance fee evaders under the tax net, said Mr Rao.
“After 10 days, those who wish to obtain full information of a particular vehicle can do so it from our official website by providing their e-mail id,” Mr Rao added.

Indian Express

The State Transport Department is going the e-governance way. Not only has it computerised information on vehicles registered in Bangalore RTOs, it is now thinking of launching an SMS service that can get you information on motor vehicles through your mobiles.

This information will include the vehicle registration number, name & address of the registered owner, engine & chassis numbers of vehicles that are registered.
However, the department is still trying to reach a decision as to whether this information can be let out to the general public or only to the RTO officials and the police.
As of now, the operations have been tested out successfully on a pilot basis. To start with, out of 55 Regional Transport Offices (RTOs) in Karnataka, one can get info of vehicles that are registered in Bangalore RTOs where computerisation is completed-- that is from KA- 01 to KA-05.
Official sources in the Transport Department confirmed the Express that the information of 16 lakh vehicles have already uploaded.
“The vehicle database updated or created by the respective RTOs up to January 2009 has been uploaded and the five per cent error margin will be rectified soon.
However, the mobile SMS service number and users accessibility are yet to be finalised by the department as the business module is being worked out with the service providers,’’ the source informed.
How to use it?
One can type RTO-space-KA- 05-M-followed by the number and send it to a five-digit number from the mobile phone. Each SMS will cost about Rs 3.
“If a service provider charges less than Rs 3 per SMS for this particular service, then we may tie-up with them,’’ the official said.
Accessibility
The department is still figuring out whether the information should be accessible to the general public due to fear of misuse. “The department is also thinking of giving limited access for this service to Transport Department and Police Department for enforcement purposes,’’ the source added. In Delhi, the access has been restricted to RTO officials and the police personnel.
The department was considering the inclusion of vehicle technical details like vehicle maker’s name & classification, month & year of manufacture, details of tax paid and fitness certification, which can accessed by the general public if not the earlier-said information.
“e-governance benefits should reach the people, which is the ultimate purpose of an e-governance. The mobile SMS service will be hassle-free and time saving.
The police or the public need not to go from pillar-to-post in RTOs to get vehicle information,’’ the official said.

Microsoft Bing TV Commercials targeted againt Google

Microsoft is spending almost $80 million to $100 million on its ad campaigning to promote Bing. In a series of its ads, Microsoft is trying to show Google as a cluttered, irrelevant and confusing search engine. Even though the campaign doesn’t directly mention the name Google, but the target is pretty clear to all.

Bing’s ad campaign strategy

Microsoft is trying to center its campaign for the coming months on four major categories:

Travel

Shopping

Health

Local

Commercial spots are to be followed by online ad campaigns. Radio advertising will also be a part of the traditional advertising mix.

The second phase of Bing advertising

After Bing’s first TV commercial picked on Google for the collapse of the US economy, Bing’s advertizing has now entered its second phase.

Bing TV commercials are showcasing more dramatized versions of what it’s like when people interact with their friends, family and partners the way they do to a search engine. The ads would show how they get back responses that have the same words as their question, but nothing at all to do with what they asked.

The campaign develops a theme similar to the one Microsoft used in its earlier commercials directed at Apple.

Take a look at Bing’s recent TV spots. The ad calls today’s confusing and cluttered online search as “Search Overload Syndrome” and says Bing is the cure.

A few recent Bing commercials:

Commercial #1

Commercial #2

Commercial #3

Commercial #4

Plane Crash Live Rare Photo shot while cruising at 35,000 feet over South America in GOL B 437 aircraft recovered from Casio Z750 Camera Memory Stick

Two shots taken inside the plane before it crashed. Unbelievable! Photos taken inside the GOL B 437 aircraft that was involved in a mid air collision and crashed.....

A B437 had a mid air collision with the Embraer Legacy while cruising at 35,000 feet over South America. The Embraer Legacy, though seriously damaged with the winglet ripped off, managed to make a landing at a nearby airstrip in the midst of the Amazon jungle. The crew and passengers of the Embraer Legacy had no idea what they had hit. The B737
however crashed, killing all crew and passengers on board.

The two photos attached were apparently taken by one of the passengers in the B737, just after the collision and before the aircraft crashed. The photos were retrieved from the camera's memory stick. You will never get to see photos like this. In the first photo, there is a gaping hole in the fuselage through which you can see the tailplane and vertical fin of the aircraft. In the second photo, one of the passengers is being sucked out of the gaping hole.

These photos were found in a digital Casio Z750, amidst the remains in Serra do Cachimbo. Although the camera was destroyed, the Memory Stick was recovered. Investigating the serial number of the camera, the owner was identified as Paulo G. Muller, an actor of a theatre for children known in the outskirts of Porto Alegre. It can be imagined that he was standing during the impact with the Embraer Legacy and during the turbulence, he managed to take these photos, just seconds after the tail loss the aircraft plunged. So the camera was found near the cockpit. The structural stress probably ripped the engines away, diminishing the falling speed, protecting the electronic equipment but not unfortunately the victims. Paulo Muller leaves behind two daughters, Bruna and Beatriz.

Worlds First Wrist Watch 3G Mobile Phone - LG-GD910 to be Released in this Year 2009 to Market

Can you imagine having your phone, text messaging, contacts, email, music, etc. all in the palm of err. . around your wrist? Dick can, and now so can the rest of us. The once far-fetched dream prototype, now a market-ready device, will be shipping out to Asia, the Middle East, Australia, and Latin America in July 2009. The United States should expect the detective-like gadget to arrive in ’09 as well.

With the smart phone market booming and new technologies being introduced every day, what do you think the next big thing is? Could the LG GD910 watch-phone give the likes of Apple’s iPhone and Blackberry’s Storm a run for their money? Who knows, in the years to come, with two free hands, you may be streaming video calls from your waterproof watch-phone.

Watch CNET Review of this Phone:

Check out the CNET Article for More Information
http://ces.cnet.com/8301-19167_1-10134418-100.html?tag=mncol;txt

Send a Fax for FREE with Myfax to 41 Countries

The US President Obama's proposal to tax expenditure by the US companies on availing services from outside the country from 2011 has received mixed reactions from all over the world.

Most of the industry leaders in India believe that the plan is aimed at curbing the country's outsourcing industry. At the same time, the proposed tax system is also winning few fans in India.

The Scenario

India's information technology and outsourcing companies employ about 2.2 million people, and the US companies account for about 60 % of their business.
The US companies either have their own subsidiaries in India or employ Indians by contracting work to local technology and outsourcing companies.
Many of these Indian operations handle customer service and back-office functions, particularly for the US banks and credit card companies.
Recently, many US corporations have also expanded their sales, marketing and distribution in India.

The Proposal

Elimination of a deduction for the US companies when they invest in subsidiaries outside the United States.
To tax expenditure by the US companies on availing services from outside the country from 2011.

The Reaction

Let us try to see what various people are saying before forming our own opinion:

NASSCOM (India's leading outsourcing lobby):

The tax plan may actually end up reducing competitiveness of US companies with global operations when compared to their European and Japanese counterparts.
The proposals appeared to be aimed at addressing the tax rate differentials that exist across the world. It will impact American headquartered companies with overseas operations

CII (The Confederation of Indian Industry)

It's an internal issue. It will only reduce their competitiveness. He added, "It is a populist posture. Perhaps his (Obama's) intention was not the same. However, it sends a wrong message.

Infosys (India's second largest software and outsourcing company)

It is not for us. It is for US companies that have operations in other destinations. It will not have an impact on Indian companies.
We do not believe that it has anything to do with IT outsourcing done by US corporations.

Mphasis

It is irrelevant as far as Indian IT providers are concerned. It may encourage more US companies to invest and create jobs within that country

FCCI (Federation of Indian Chambers of Commerce and Industry)

While Obama's move would have some impact on the US investment abroad and into India, in the long run this would only run counter to the interest of US corporations seeking global presence.

The Opinion

It was the availability of young talent pool, the time zone factor and the cost advantage that made outsourcing in India flourish in the last decade. It was not due to any tax benefit that the US firms enjoyed.

US companies save 60-75% by outsourcing their back office operations to countries like India. The overall impact would be clearer once the exact structure of the taxation is announced. Nobody really knows what will happen in the longer run but the move has definitely diluted the spirit of the global economy and the flat world.

(Sources: New York Times, indiatimes)

Goats now Hired by Google... And that really gets our goat, if you’ll pardon the pun. [Source: TechCrunch]

And the response from Niki Fenwick, a Google representative:

“Google takes the wellness of our employees very seriously and we pride ourselves on having a responsive and adaptable culture. The lawn-mowing goats are not, of course, full-time Google employees - but we would certainly respond directly to any concerns about their treatment. I can confirm that during their time in Mountain View, like other Google employees, each goat is entitled to a free organic lunch.”

Free organic lunch eh? Well, good luck… Goats!

Check out more at Official Google Blog: Mowing with goats

Thanks to Devils Workshop.

Send Free Fax Online to U.S.A - faxorama.com

While ATMs facilitate a variety of banking transactions for customers, their main utility has been for cash withdrawal and balance enquiry. As at the end of December 2007, the number of ATMs deployed in India was 32,342. Commensurate with the branch network, larger banks have deployed more ATMs. Most banks prefer to deploy ATMs at locations where they have a large customer base or expect considerable use. To increase the usage of ATMs as a delivery channel, banks have also entered into bilateral or multilateral arrangements
with other banks to have inter-bank ATM networks.

2. It is evident that the charges levied on the customers vary from bank to bank and also vary according to the ATM network that is used for the transaction. Consequently, a customer is not aware, before hand, of the charges that will be levied for a particular ATM transaction, while using an ATM of another bank. This generally discourages the customer from using the ATMs of other banks. It is, therefore, essential to ensure greater transparency.

3. International experience indicates that in countries such as UK, Germany and France, bank customers have access to all ATMs in the country, free of charge except when cash is withdrawn from white label ATMs or from ATMs managed by non-bank entities. There is also a move,
internationally, to regulate the fee structure by the regulator from the public policy angle. The ideal situation is that a customer should be able to access any ATM installed in the country free of charge through an equitable cooperative initiative by banks.

4. In view of this, RBI had placed on its website an Approach paper and sought public comments. The comments received have been analysed. Based on the feed back a framework of service charges would be implemented by all banks as under:

Service Charges Details
(1) For use of own ATMs for any purpose Free (with immediate effect)

(2) For use of other bank ATMs for balance enquiries Free (with immediate effect)

(3) For use of other bank ATMs for cash withdrawals
No bank shall increase the charges prevailing as on December 23, 2007 (i.e. the date of
release of Approach Paper on RBI website)
Banks which are charging more than Rs.20 per transaction shall reduce the charges to
a maximum of Rs.20 per transaction by March 31, 2008
Free - with effect from April 1, 2009.

5. For the services at (1) and (2) above, the customer will not be levied any charge under any other head and the service will be totally free.

6. For the service number (3) the charge of Rs.20/- indicated will be all inclusive and no other charges will be levied to the customers under any other head irrespective of the amount of withdrawal.

7. The service charges for the following types of cash withdrawal transactions may be determined by the banks themselves:
(a) cash withdrawal with the use of credit cards
(b) cash withdrawal in an ATM located abroad.

Thus Please note that wef 01st April, 2009 ATM cards can be used in any bank’s ATM for withdrawing cash without
any charges.

April Fool SMS Jokes Google's Hoaxes computer worm

Enable this feature and you can stop those e-mails that are meant for someone else or the ones where you forget to attach a document or simply the one with the wrong subject line.

That's about to change, just enable the "Undo Send" feature in Gmail Labs and you can Undo the sent messages.

Technically this feature does not really recall the sent messages but it delays sending of messages by 5 seconds. So if you realize something is wrong with the e-mail you just clicked "send" on, you have about 5 seconds to Undo Send.

This feature comes in handy for the messages that are sent in a rush.

How to rescue your cell when it falled into water | De-Moistuize Mobile Phone

That's a very sad moment. But does this mean that it's time to abandon your cell phone? No! Especially not if you try this home remedy.

First of all, take out the phone battery from the cell immediately. This will prevent electrical short circuits within the cell which can even burn the internal parts of your cell.

Next, gently wipe your cell with a tissue, and bury it into a jar full of uncooked rice. Yes, rice! Remember that the coconut is kept in dry rice to keep moisture away? It's the same logic that works here too. It has been found that rice has a high chemical affinity for water. In simple words, it attracts water. So, water doesn't stick to the cold metal of your cell, instead it is soaked by the rice, thus leaving your cell dry (well, almost dry).

Thanks to TOI

Dual SIM Patent Holder Somasundaram Madurai Demands Royalty 35 Rs

More importantly, this could also affect the plans to manufacture these handsets in the country. It is estimated that around 100,000 dual-SIM phones are sold in the country every month.

The Madurai resident, Somasundaram Ramkumar, holds patent "in India for phones with a plurality of SIM cards allocated to different communication networks". The patent was awarded to him last year.

Ramkumar has moved the Office of the Commissioner of Customs of Chennai Airport in this regard. The office has accepted his application and directed officials throughout the country to stop clearing shipments of dual-SIM phones, a source close to the development told Business Standard.

The application is valid for five years or till the time the patent is valid, whichever is earlier. Ramkumar is believed to have sought royalty (believed to be around Rs 35) for every dual-SIM phone shipped into the country.

Even though Ramkumar could not be immediately contacted for comments, manufacturers and distributors in the country confirmed the development.

European handset major Meridian Mobile CEO Rajiv Khanna said most of the companies had inventory for a couple of months. He hoped that the issue would be resolved by then. Meridian Mobile sells dual SIM handsets under the brand name 'Fly'.

The Indian Cellular Association (ICA), the body of handset vendors in India, has already formed a committee to look into the matter, and has initiated dialogue with the Customs department.

Dual-SIM handsets have two SIM slots and can work on both CDMA and GSM networks. They are popular among users due to the convenience of alternating between two numbers. These phones are particularly useful to international as some countries (like South Korea) do not have GSM networks, while others (certain places in the US) do not have CDMA networks.
