Whitney Elizabeth Houston (August 9, 1963 – February 11, 2012) was an American recording artist, actress, producer, and model. The shine of her talent is beautifully reflected through a huge list of awards she gained in her whole career. Her awards include two Emmy Awards, six Grammy Awards, 30 Billboard Music Awards, and 22 American Music Awards, among a total of 415 career awards in her lifetime. Houston was also one of the world's best-selling music artists, having sold over 170 million albums, singles and videos worldwide. But alas, On February 11, 2012, Houston was found dead in her guest room at the Beverly Hilton Hotel, in Beverly Hills, California, of causes not immediately known.(source Wikipedia)

Learn the Easiest way of Eye colorization with Gimp.

Well eye colorization is a well discussed and well known technique in photo-manipulation and photo- retouching. One can make his artwork or manipulation a way more fantastic and catching with this method. Out of a huge number of tutorials available for eye-colorization some are for beginners some are for pros, but the technique I'm going to explain in this tutorial is suitable for all ranges of readers and very easy to follow too. So let's get started with out tutorial.
First a look on the results we are going to achieve through this method:

And our good old Gimp image editor.

Step 1: Open up the stock image in gimp image editor.

Step 2: Now create a new layer with name "col".

Step 3: Select the col layer. Then go to ToolBox and select the Path Tool.

Step 4: Use the Path Tool to select the region around the eye as shown in the figure below.

After selection press enter to get Marching ants round the selection.

Step 5: Now choose the Bucket Fill Tool from Tool Box to fill up the selected region with any color. Note: Confirm that All of the actions are being applied on the "col" layer.

Step 6: Now in layer modes select Overlay mode for the "col" layer(in which the color is being applied).

Effect of this action is as shown below.

Step 7: First press Ctrl+Shift+A to deselect the selected region. Now select Colors>>Colorize and set the values Lightness: 40 Hue: 241 and Saturation: 50.

Note: This step is fully custom and it's all your preference of color and shades that you want in your result. Set the values for Hue, Lightness and Saturation accordingly.

According to the above setting the result is a shown below:

Step 8: Now go to Filters>>Blur>>Blur. and repeat it 4-6 times until you get result as shown below:

And that's it now just save your image.

and the final result according to some different color combinations is as shown below:

Create awesome typography portrait in just 5 steps with Gimp.

Now a days there's a boom in artistic, sophisticated and outstanding portraits and profile pictures. Every one is showing of his artistic talent in their portraits. But as a beginner it is kind of hard task to create and establish your own style so early. But this does not mean that you can not stand shoulder by shoulder with those people. Actually with a little inspiration+imagination you can create something heavy to ignore even by the great artists. But to do this first you need to get your basics rock solid so that you can have a firm base when you move further. So in today's tutorial I'm going to introduce you with a very basic but important technique to create typographic portrait or other artworks. You can learn more about typography HERE.

So let's get started with this tutorial but first a look at the result that we are going to achieve with this process.

Resources: Gimp 2.6 or better and an image of your choice I'm using THIS image.

Step 1: Open image with gimp.

Step 2: Now create a new layer below the "Background" layer and name it "Text". Fill it up with #000000 color. Now select the "Text Tool" from the tool menu and fill up the "Text" layer with some text as shown in the figure below.
Note: now it is your work to think of some awesome text as well as awesome way to write it. Check out some examples of typography HERE to get inspired. I'm doing this tutorial with simple typography.

Step 3: Now select the Background Layer and set the layer mode to "Multiply".

Result of above action is as below:

Step 4: Now some final tweaking. Select the "Background" layer and click on the Duplicate Layer button on the bottom of Layer window twice. (number of layer duplication can be changed according to your preferences). This action will duplicate the Background layer twice and will provide some awesome result.

Result of this action is as follows.

Step 5: Now just save this image in your preferred format and that's it.

Even though there's a load of ways to create sketches in Gimp but the plugin that i'm going to discuss with you is special cause it not just provide you with the most realistic result but it is easiest to use too.
This plugin is provided by Fx-foundry plugin set which you can download with the help of This Tutorial.

An image you want to convert to sketch.

Step 1: Load your image in Gimp.

Step 2: Now open Fx-Foudry>>Artistic>>Quick Sketch.

This action will open a settings window for Quick Sketch plugin. Keep the settings to default and press "OK".

Create realistic stickers out of any cutout images with Gimp.

Last night when I was shorting out my childhood memory box I found a bag of our(me and my younger brother) collection of anime stickers, tattoos, trump cards, and other stuff. From there I got this idea for creating a tutorial on Stickers. I don't know whether you will be able to stick them on your Fridge or Room wall but for your desktop, blog or website they can be a beautiful eye-candy. As it is a beginner level tutorial you don't need to have a great knowledge of Gimp functionality just basic computer handling knowledge and you are good to go. For learning there's a lot of things like Path Selection, Stroke Path, Grow Selection, So let's get started with our tutorial....

Some Examples of the results we can achieve...

Resources:
Image cutout(of any image, actually could be yours too. Just try to be a little precise when making cutout.). Mine are from HERE and HERE.
Gimp 2.6 or better.

Step 1: Open your cutout with Gimp image Editor.

Step 2: Now select the cutout image borders like in the figure below.

Step 3: Now open Select>>Grow and increase the pixel value to "6".

Now press "OK".

Step 4: Now press Select>>To Path and then Select>>From Path. (path selection provide a better selection of borders)

Step 5: Now open Edit>>Stroke Path and increase the line width to 15px. Set the line style as shown in the figure below and press "Stroke".(Note: Set the foreground color to #ffffff)

Result of above action is as shown below:

And that's it our sticker is ready to be used. You can apply shadow on this sticker if you want by going to Filters>>Light and Shadow>>Drop Shadow and apply with default settings.

Easiest way to create realistic water drops in Gimp.

I can't believe that this technique was lying just under my nose and I was ignoring it for so long. Actually last night when I was trying to find out some new technique for my new tutorial I accidentally came across this plugin of Gimp Fx-Foundry which is basically related to Logo making but can be used some other places also as I know now. Name of this plugin is Liquid-Water Effect which falls under the Alpha to Logo category of Gimp Fx-Foundry. I won't talk too much about the history of this effect as believe on action that words but you can still check it out HERE. and download it from HERE.

So I think we should start with the tutorial, but first take look on the result we are about to achieve today...

Appealing right... Well then what are you waiting for guys Just Do It.

Obviously Out Good old Gimp.
And Better If you get whole Fx-Foundry plugins installed but if you want than you can only install this plugin only from HERE.

Step 1: Open up you Gimp and pick up a size for you canvas according to your preferences and requirements. I chose 400x640px transparent canvas.

Step 2: Now go to Fx-Foundry>>Alpha to Logo>>Liquid Water and select it. This action will open a setting windows for Liquid Water Effect

Don't touch anything here just click OK and wait for something like below :

Step 3: Now in layer window click on the icon that looks like an eye in front of Mosaic and Highlight_Up layers, this will make those particular layer invisible.

Step 4: Now it's time to make these drops to look more realistic and sparkling. So lets do it. Select the Highlight_down Layer. Go to Filters>>Light and Shadow>>Lighting Effects.

This will open a settings window for this plugin. Increase the Distance to Maximum.

In this settings window select the Light Tab and In Type chose Directional.Also place the blue point in the preview window in the center as shown in the figure.

And then press OK. We did the last step to provide a symmetric lighting to the drops. Result of above action is as shown in the figure below:

Step 5: Now last step for some tweaking. First select the Highlight_down layer and set it's transparency low or high according to your preference of brightness. I'm setting it to 70%.

NOw Select the Blue background-color layer and go to Colors>> Colorize and set the slider for Lightness on 45.

Now according to your preference of colors slide the Hue Slider and set it on your color and press OK.
That's it now just save the image. And with your selected color and other preferences you will get something like this as result...

Well holidays have just started and there's joy and happiness everywhere. In this joy and happiness of your's I'm going to add some more entertainment with this newest discovery of mine. For last weak I've been thinking and thinking of creating something Holiday special but I failed a many times. But today suddenly because of a wrong key press I found a really interesting and awesome technique to create winter and Christmas holiday artwork just for the sake of joy with learning. So in today's tutorial I'm going to introduce you with a fantastic technique with which you can create your own winter holiday(Christmas) artworks and illustrations. Let's get Started: (Please forgive my Bad English)

Step 1: Open up Gimp and create an empty canvas of size 1280x800. You can take any differ size but In this tutorial I'm going to follow this size. Then fill that canvas up with #5f7798 color.

Step 2: Now first create a new layer and name it "cloud1". Then select Paint Tool from tool box set the brush size to 13 and color to #ffffff. Then from brush select box select Chinese Cloud brushes and apply them on the lower part of canvas as shown in the figure below:

Step 3: Now create a new layer below the current "cloud1" layer and name it "cloud2". Onthis layer with the same brush with size .17px and color #d1d3d6. apply the clouds as shown in the figure below:

we did it to give it some cloudy feeling.
Step 3: Now create new layer above all of the layers and name it "char" .Then from the brush select box select second brush of 20 People Brushes.

And by keeping the brush size .13px apply it on the canvas as shown in the figure below:

Half of the work is done.

Step 5: Now Open Filters>> Noise>>Add Film grain. and press ok in setting box to apply it without touching any setting in the box.

Result of this action is as below:

Above action created 4 new layer in layer window 2 for midtones and 2 for shadows. Click on the eye icon near the last three of these 4 layer to make them invisible.

Step 6: Now go to Colors>> Colorize and set the values Hue:0 ,Saturation:0 ,lightness:100

Result of above action is as shown in the figure below:

Step 7: Now go to Fx-Foundry>> Artistic>> Analogize.

This will open a settings window for analogize. Don't touch any settings just press Ok and let it happen.
Result of above action is as follows:

Note: Your result might differ from this one. If so try applying the effect again and again on original file to get proper lighting and result.

And that's it just save the picture and you're good to go.

Create realistic wall impression painting in 4 steps with Gimp.

Lately I was experimenting with layer modes in Gimp, and I came up with an awesome technique. With this technique we can create pretty realistic old wall impressions or paintings like shown in the figures below:

So let's get started...

Step 1: Open the background in Gimp.

Step 2: Now open the foreground image in another layer on same window. Try Drag-Drop.

Step 3: Now go to "Mode" in Layer window and select "Burn" mode.

Step 4: Open Colors>>Colorize and set values Hue:0 Saturation:0 and Lightness: 30.

Result of this effect is as below:

Create Movie 300 like illustrations in few steps with Gimp.

I'm a huge fan of Movie 300, I've watched this movie like many times and still i don't get bore of it, and I thing that's the magic of this movie. Getting inspired by special effects of this movie I was helplessly trying to find out ways to create environment and effects like they've provided in movie. And then God heard me. I came to know that there's a plugin "Movie 300" in "Gimp Plugin Registry". So without any delay I downloaded that plugin and created my first masterpiece "orion"[take a look]. And then as I always do, writing this tutorial to make sure that every reader of mine knows how to do this. So in today's tutorial I'm going to show you how to achieve this Movie 300 effect with pre-made plugins in few steps.

Step 1: Open this image in Gimp. (or you can use your own image).

Step 2: In this step I'll add some background to this image to give it some base. (Note: You can skip this step if your image already have background). To get a more dramatic and crazy effect i'll add a combination of dark and light colors. So following is the image after adding a background.

Step 3: Now Open Filters>>Artistic>>Movie 300. This ill open the setting windows for this effect. [Note: I hope you've already installed the script from the source to your system. If not then follow this tutorial here on how to install plugins and script in Gimp for Linux.]. Don't touch any setting just press "OK" and let the script do it's work.

After applying the effect our image is ready to go. Here's the final image....

How to create Dreamy Effect in gimp for beginners.

I love fantasy graphics and manipulations..we all do. We live most of our fantasies in our dreams. So today I'll explain you a easy and effective method to produce dreamy effect in your fantasy artwork so that you can represent your fantasy through your art in a more beautiful and fantasizing way. Following are some examples of artworks done with the use of Dreamy Effect.

The method that I going to discuss is quite easy to follow even for the beginners so all type of users can utilize this tutorial.
So let's get started...

Any image of you photomanipulation which you want to add effect to. I' using this image for example.
Gimp 2.6 or better.

Step 1: Load the image in Gimp.

Step 2: Go to layer window. Right click on the Background Layer and select Duplicate Layer. This will create an exact copy of the Background Layer. Name this new layer "mono" and place it below the Background Layer.

Step 3: Now first ensure that the "mono" layer is selected and then go to Colors>>Components>>Channel Mixer and open it.

Step 4: Above action will open a setting window for Channel Mixer. In this settings window enter values [RED: 122 Green: 101 Blue:200] as sown in the figure below.

After filling up the values click "OK" .

Step 5: Now time to add one important ingredient for dreamy effect the BLURRRR. haha
To do this go to Filters>> Blur>> Gaussian Blur and open it. In the settings window that will open after the last action fill up values [Horizontal:15 Vertical: 15 ] according to figure below.

Step 6: Now Select the Background Layer and set it's transparency to 60%.

Step 7: Now select the "mono" layer again and go to Colors>>Colorize and open it. Now next step is kind of depend on your interest in color or requirement at the moment. In the colorize settings window you need to set only Hue Slider, leave other sliders as they are. Slide the Hue slider which will provide you a range of different colors as you slide it. Select your preferred value and press ok.

i've chosen the value as shown in the figure above and the result is as shown in the figure below:

And that's it our dreamy effect is complete, now just save the image. As you'll experiment with the Colorize settings you'll get pretty awesome results. Some of the examples as shown in the figure below:

Create minimalistic app icons in 10 steps using Gimp.

We require icons at many places in our work. Either for an application or any custom script we need different icons to identify them. So today I'm explaining to you a very easy beginner level tutorial for creating minimalistic beveled icons. Below is the preview of what we'll get after the process:

Gimp 2.6 or better.

Step 1: Create a new image with size 200x200 in gimp. Use "Bucket Fill Tool" from the ToolBox and fill #26807d color in the image.

Step 2: Now create a new layer and name it "IMG".

Step 2: Now time to choose the image that you want to impress upon the icon. I'm going to use this radioactive sign from a font named "Devil Inside". Put the image on the IMG layer with black color.

Step 3: Now Right Click on the "IMG" layer and select "Duplicate Layer". This will create an exact copy of "IMG" layer. Name this layer "Bright". Do the exact process again. And Name the new layer as "Dark". (I tell u very soon why we're naming them this way).

Step 4: Now Choose the "IMG" layer and set it's transparency to 70%.

Step 5: Now select the "Bright" layer and Go to Colors>>Colorize. In the setting window fill up the values as shown in the figure below:

Result of this action is as shown in the figure below:

Step 6: Now we need to move the "Bright" Layer a bit to create the bevel effect. Do it something like the figure below using Move Tool.

Step 7: We are now very near to the end. Now Move the IMG layer above the Bright layer and Dark layer below the Bright layer. This will create a unique beveled effect as in the figure below:

Cool eh!
Let's make it more cool...

Step 8: Merge all the layers. Now press Ctrl+i this will select the whole image. Now select the Rectangle Select Tool from the Tool Box and click on the image. This will create a rectangle selection around the image. Now in the settings of Rectangle Select Tool Check the Round Corner Property and set the value to 45. result of this process is as shown in the figure below:

Step 9: Now press Ctrl+i this will select the previously un-selected area. After this press Delete which will leave us with this round cornered image as result.

Step 10: NOw the last touch. In this step I'm going to teach you one bonus tecnique known as "Path Selection". To do this first select the image from outer edges as shown in the figure below:

Now go to Select>>To Path then Go to Select>>From Path. Now go to Edit>>Stroke Path. In the setting window set the values as shown below:

Ensure that the foreground color is black and then press Stroke. This will create a thin black line on the boundary of this image. Now go to Select>>Shrink and shrink the boundary by 1 pixel. After this repeat the last Path selection action with a brighter color to create a bright boundary inside the dark boundary. After this process save the image and our product is ready to launch.
