ILC Service, Spirit, and Success Day

On May 10th students will participate in service projects and school spirit competitions throughout the morning. At 11:30 am we will have a BBQ to celebrate our successes this year. Parents are invited to join us for the BBQ from 11:30 am - 12:30 pm

SPRING BREAK SAFETY

Are your children feeling the winter blues? Are they ready to relax and have fun? Rockwood students work hard and deserve the upcoming break! Unfortunately, Spring Break also has become notorious for traveling to party spots and engaging in risky behaviors. We want all of our students to return to school safe, well-rested and ready to embrace the last few weeks of the academic year! With your support, we can ensure this goal.

The conversations you have with your children and the responsible behaviors you model for them do make a difference! Please encourage your children to make smart, safe choices while on break. Remind them to think before they act, pre-plan and stick to their good decisions, set personal limits, establish realistic boundaries, hang with friends who make good choices, and obey laws that are in place for their protection. High school students need to hear from you that they are not invincible. They need to be reminded that every year across our nation, Spring Break reports describe accidents, arrests, injuries, sexual assaults, teen pregnancy and alcohol and drug use. Rockwood students can have fun on Spring Break while being safe and smart.

We hope your children have a safe, enjoyable vacation and we look forward to seeing them back in class on Monday, March 25.

Prop S: What Does It Mean For Our School?

On Tuesday, April 2, Rockwood residents will be asked to vote on Prop S, a $38.4 million no-tax rate increase bond issue.

The proposed bond issue supports students by focusing on safety measures, technology improvements and updates to our current facilities.

· Safety: Provide for safety modifications, such as security cameras, door-locking systems and check-in centers at school entrances.

· Technology: Update computers and networks so students are prepared for upcoming state-mandated online assessments.

· School Improvements: Repair and renovate existing schools to maintain the district’s investment in facilities and buildings.

This referendum would not require an increase to the district’s current debt service tax rate. A four-sevenths (57.14 percent) majority is necessary for passage. Election Day is April 2. Please remember to vote.

Congratulations ROSE Award Recipient

The prestigious ROSE Award is bestowed upon individuals who show excellence of character, performance, leadership and service to the Rockwood School District.

Congratulations to Amanda Orphan a social worker here at ILC. She was one of the 15 recipients selected by a 17-member committee.

Take the Drug-Free Coalition Survey

The Rockwood School District partners with the Rockwood Drug-Free Coalition to address and prevent youth substance abuse in our schools and community.

The Coalition is inviting all Rockwood students (high school and middle school), parents, staff members to complete a short survey. The survey helps gather data to ensure that effective prevention programs are provided, and that we have information about trends, access and perception of harm/consequences related to youth substance abuse in our community.

Would you please take five minutes to complete the following eight-question survey? Your response is completely anonymous and your participation is crucial to compare results with our 2011 survey, which included more than 14,500 survey participants.

Proposition S No-tax Rate Increase Bond Issue

On Tuesday, April 2, Rockwood residents will be asked to vote on Prop S, a $38.4 million no-tax rate increase bond issue.

Prop S reflects feedback collected from our community during the Picture Rockwood public engagement process. More than 400 Rockwood community members attended Picture Rockwood workshops to study the challenges facing the district and provide input on solutions. Kindergarten Day at the ILC!

Once again, kindergarten children from Geggie Elementary School will arrive to participate with ILC students in a fun-filled morning of learning and character building activities focused around the theme of "respect". Last year, the interaction of our ILC students with the kindergarten children was truly delightful! We are looking forward to another successful kindergarten day!

High School Summer Academy

Rockwood Summer Academy classes will be offered at Marquette High School and Rockwood Summit High School for summer 2013 classes.
Classes will meet for four weeks beginning Monday, June 3 through Friday, June 28. Two sessions will be offered:

Session 1: 8 - 11:15 a.m.
Session 2: 11:30 a.m. - 2:45 p.m.

Enrollment forms for high school students will be accepted on a first-come, first-served basis beginning the morning of March 4. Please contact your high school guidance office for more information.

Security Changes at ILC

To our ILC Families,

We have recently made some security changes here at the ILC. Doors on the west end of the building will remained locked at all times, with access via key only.

We also have added a video surveillance, electronic locking system on the main doors where students/visitors arrive. Students and visitors arriving after 7:30 daily will need to push the telecom button and will be asked to introduce themselves and their reason for visiting the ILC. Support staff will be monitoring this system and will grant appropriate access.

We thank you in advance for your cooperation and patience as we all get used to this new system.

Parent/Teacher/Student Conferences

Parent/Student/Teacher conferences are being held at the ILC on Monday, February 4, 2013 from 5:00-8:00 p.m. and on Tuesday, February 5, 2013 from 1:30-3:00 pm. Parents, please plan on attending and seeing your student's progress, visit with your student's teachers, and see what we do here at the ILC. Students, please accompany your parents to the conferences and show them your successes. You will be receiving a reminder in the mail. Call the school office should you need to change your time at 636-733-2100.

Souper Bowl of Caring

ILC Character Council will be conducting an all-school canned food drive January 28-February 1, 2013. Canned goods will be donated to the Eureka Food Pantry.

Parents are needed to help with collection and transport of canned goods. If you would like to help, please contact Kathy Loesche at 636-733-2100 ext. 47016. Thank you!

Completion Ceremony Honors 12 Students

Twelve students from the Individualized Learning Center, ILC, in the Rockwood School District were awarded certificates of completion from their home high schools on Dec. 14. These students were honored during a completion ceremony attended by family, friends, teachers and administrators.

“It’s exciting to celebrate this important academic milestone with our students,” said Matt Dieckhaus, coordinator of the ILC. “These students have worked hard to meet their teachers’ rigorous expectations and we are proud of them.”

Since 1997, more than 375 students have graduated from the ILC. Through this non-traditional high school setting, students receive alternative learning opportunities that focus on developing good character and academic success.

ILC Completion Ceremony

The Completion Ceremony to honor students who have met graduation requirements at the Individualized Learning Center for first semester will be held on Friday morning, December 14, at 11:00 a.m. in the ILC gym.
