(More customer reviews)I have used this laptop for about a month and I am very happy with it. It works great for web surfing, email, word processing, watching movies and streaming video. It also works well with my wireless N home network. The Turion II Ultra processor is very capable and the Radeon graphics are the best integrated graphics you will find. It will play Direct X 9 games like Halo at full resolution without a hitch. The speakers sound better than I expected and the laptop looks like a more expensive machine. If you do heavy video editing or other graphics intensive activities, you need a machine with a separate graphics card and the latest high end processor, but the vast majority of users would be very satisfied with the performance of this Gateway. It is a real bargain at $530.

Its works good with games to i play an online game (maplestory) where you have to download it onto your computer and play and the download was realy fast usually it takes hours to download when i downloaded it on my desktop and with this it took about 15 to 20min and when im playing the game it works GREAT! if you need a laptop to replace a desktop this one will do. It also holds alot, i have a bunch of songs, pics, and videos and it still has a bunch of memory and still runs WAY FAST!

The laptop has an aluminum band around the edge. When you rest your palms on the plastic top while typing, the plastic sinks a little... just ennough for the sharp edge of the aluminum to dig into your wrists.

(More customer reviews)I thought I'd take a chance on a refurbished PC since this one had such great specs. I bought it from Newegg for 489.
First PC made it through windows setup, worked for 5 minutes, then died - nothing would show up on screen, nothing worked. I mailed it back to be replaced. unfortunately newegg made me pay the shipping even though it was a defective product. That cost $36.
I received the 2nd one about a week later. Same story - except this one didn't make it all the way to the end of windows setup before showing a blue screen of death and going black. Nothing would show on the screen after that.
This time, I called HP support, figuring I'd mail it back to them to be replaced or repaired since I wouldn't have to pay shipping.
I've now been on the phone with them for almost 2 hours. Some woman with an Indian accent repeatedly misunderstood me for an hour while forcing me to go through all kinds of trouble shooting steps. After an hour, even though I tried two different monitors and 3 different cables, and EVEN THOUGH BOTH MONITORS AND ALL 3 CABLES WORK FINE WITH MY LAPTOP (as I verified during the call), she concluded that my monitors were faulty, not the computer. (how a faulty monitor would cause a blue screen of death, I have no idea)VERY frustrating - tech support who not only can't understand me due to dialectical differences but ALSO doesn't know thing one about computer technology. BEAUTIFUL. After double checking her documentation multiple times, and concluding that ok, I was right, it couldn't be the monitors, she then decided it was the video card and transferred me to someone who was supposed to be able to help me with that. (it's integrated video, so a video card problem = a motherboard problem). In the process, she hung up on me.
I called back. I waited on hold another 20 minutes. Now I've been talking to another person who says he's going to get permission for me to mail this in to be repaired.I've been on hold with him repeatedly for the last hour.Yippee????I'd have gladly paid another hundred or two for a computer that would work reliably from the start. Now I have to face owning one that may continue to break down again and again (based on 2 lasting 5 minutes each). Amazon doesn't have other reviews of this refurbished model yet, but if you check other websites, you'll find others have had similar experiences. A few lucky people get one that works fine, but far far too many are having the same experience I am.HP's quality control is clearly a serious problem, at least with their refurbished models. (To be fair, I'm typing this on an HP mini which I love).
why don't i just get a refund, you ask? well because Newegg will not refund this model, only replace it. i read somewhere that hp's policy is they'll attempt to repair a computer 4 times then replace it (replace ti with another refurbished one of the same model? EEEK). Who knows how long it will be before I get something that works.At least if I'd bought through amazon, i wouldn't have had to pay return shipping and I could have gotten a refund and just purchased something different. As it is, I"m stuck owning this thing and wrestling with its issues. Save yourself the hassle. Or if you do do it, pay the extra to get it through amazon and make sure you'll be able to get a refund if it turns into a nightmare for you (as it has for me).

(More customer reviews)I'm a techie and own 9 other computers. 6 of the 9 are Sony's. I also own Toshiba and MSI. I always thought I had to purchase the most expensive to have the best, but after purchasing the Gateway, I see now that I was wrong. This laptop is absolutely phenomenal. The screen is the most crisp, colorful and sharpest display I have ever seen. It literally blows everything else out of the water. I have it sitting next to two other laptops right now that I paid at least double for and there is really no comparison at all. Windows 7 runs smooth as silk, there is very little bloatware pre-installed. I'm simply floored by how good this computer is at this price point. Don't think twice about getting it. After seeing it in action, I really feel that it's a steal at this price. One downside for me is that the memory isn't upgradable beyond 4gb and it doesn't have a pc card/expresscard slot for my wireless modem, but since I'm using it primarily at home for photo editing, those things don't really matter to me. I'm considering purchasing a 2nd one now for my wife.
Update: Windows 7 on this computer continues to amaze me too. Today, I had 8 apps open and they all ran as if I only had one open. I didn't intend to do this, but I had Dreamweaver, Fireworks, Outlook, Word, Navicat, Hypersnap, Explorer and Microsoft Publisher all open at the same time and there was no lag or anything that would have let me know that I needed to close some apps to free up memory. The system ran smoothly as if I was just using one app, so the 4GB limit makes more sense now since there doesn't appear to be a need for more.

(More customer reviews)My wife and I got this Toshiba laptop to replace an aging laptop at home, where the extent of our mobility requirement is that we occasionally move it from room to room. (If we simply wanted a computer for a fixed location, we probably would have purchased a desktop model for somewhat less money and/or better performance.) Beyond normal uses such as spreadsheets and publishing programs, the 2.2 GHz Intel Core Duo 2 T6600 processor is plenty powerful enough for typical household needs, including photography work and most games. If you are a serious gamer, however, you will want more processing power and a discrete graphics card, which this laptop doesn't have. Unlike most netbooks or "ultra-thin" laptops (which slot between netbooks and traditional laptops), this unit comes with 4GB of memory, which should remain sufficient for several years, and a solid 400GB hard drive. That, along with Windows 7 Home Premium 64-bit, should last you years.
The large (16 inch) display is bright, crisp and a joy to behold. I've read some complaints about the keyboard, but we like it. There is a numeric keypad, which really saves time if you frequently work with numbers. The touchpad is not located in the middle of the unit, which troubles some people (although it is easy to get used to). If you look carefully at an image of the keyboard, you will see that the touchpad is located roughly in the middle of what I would call the traditional keyboard area (from the left shift key to the right shift key), which is where you will normally find your hands when typing. The two internal speakers are simply great for a laptop, but don't expect miracles from 1.5 inch speakers. The "fusion" finish looks sharp, but it attracts fingerprints like honey attracts bees.
This Toshiba comes with a six-cell battery and an advertised 3 hours and 20 minute battery life, although we got closer to 2 hours and 30 minutes of battery use with normal settings. Regardless, we don't run this on battery power that often, and if what you want is really long battery life, you should look at a netbook or ultra-thin. The Windows 7 software is 64-bit, which is where personal computing is headed, so that's an advantage. However, you may find some compatibility problems with older software or hardware such as printers (many printer manufacturers will have compatible drivers available shortly).
Before you rule this laptop in for your situation, however, you should first rule out various alternatives. If mobility is a key concern for you, this isn't the right choice. Yes, you can pick it up and carry it around, but at 15 inches in width and over seven pounds, I wouldn't want to lug it around for long. For, say, a college student who wants to take notes in class every day (and who can accept the limited processing power of less capable machines), a smaller, lighter computer with much better battery life is a better choice. Get a netbook, or maybe an ultra-thin. If you are a serious gamer or video editor, then you need a high-end machine with a discrete graphics card and a more powerful processor. Just be prepared to pay up for it. And if you have no mobility requirement, consider a desktop.
However, if what you want is a desktop replacement laptop with plenty of memory, good processing power, speed, a large screen, a roomy hard drive, lots of ports, etc., then this laptop features an attractive combination of these features in a relatively economical package. It will be the right computer for many people.

1. This can play HD videos in Youtube and Hulu without a hiccup (if you have good bandwidth of course).
2. Upgrading HDD, RAM and even network card is a breeze as the access panels are well laid out in the bottom, and all said components are within reach upon opening. No need to open the top and take the keyboard out like with some other notebooks.
3. LCD quality is surprisingly good and easy on the eyes.
4. Overall build quality is above average for the price point.
This notebook looks and feels much better than the images provided here would make you think. By now everybody should know that this is extremely similar Acer's 1410, down to the quirks such as missing bluetooth despite presence of bluetooth button, etc. which is not surprising now that Acer owns Gateway.
However, there are subtle differences and I bought this over the Acer 1410 because of the following:
1. The keyboard layout is US version, whereas that of the 1410 is European. (At least if you check the 1410's images they are)
2. The touchpad is recessed, so less fumbling into that area. Most users complain about the 1410's touchpad being flush.
3. This is subjective, but I kind of liked the faux graphite look on the palmrest compared to the 1410's.
But you really couldn't go wrong with either product. These are just what tipped me to get this one over the other.

(More customer reviews)Previous to this Toshiba C655-S5132 laptop I owned an Acer Aspire One 8.9 inch netbook. The most impressive feature of the Toshiba is the 15.6 inch screen, which is a delight to view. It's so easy to read and is sharp and bright that photos pop out of the page. This is a user friendly computer and handsome at that. It is very quiet and doesn't heat up on you. The surfaces are textured so fingerprints aren't an issue. The keyboard is full size, unlike my Acer, so it's really easy and comfortable to type on. The wireless is very powerful and can pull in signals without an adapter. You can piggyback signals without the need of a booster antenna. Internet access is relatively fast and reliable. The six cell battery is long lasting, almost four hours. The audio speakers sound a heck better than what I've been accustomed, although a pair of add-ons are necessary to give you quality music reproduction. The Windows Seven software is very basic and simpler than the Microsoft XP program. It is streamlined and more intuitive, but once you get the hang of it you can accomplish whatever it is you need to do. The 3GB memory drive is very ample with plenty of space to spare for your files, photos and music downloads. There are a couple of items that could be improved, however. The Toshiba features only two USB ports situated on the left side. Three would have been better (with one on the right), 'cause I don't like the fact I have to stretch the mouse wire to my right side (I'm right handed, wouldn't matter if you're a lefty). The mouse by the way is an accessory- it isn't included in the purchase price. Secondly, a webcam would have been a nice addition. But overall, I am enjoying this laptop. It has no technical issues and the unit appears to be dependable. For the money I feel it's a good buy and superior to the Acer netbook.

(More customer reviews)This is my second Shuttle. I bought this to build a replacement for a top-of-the line Dell XPS 730 that was so over-engineered it couldn't get out of its own way. This machine, after adding an i7-930 processor, 8GB of ram and the NVIDIA Quadro 580 card, runs rings around a machine that cost 4x as much, with none of the heat, noise, bulk or weight. Cooling is excellent and the power supply has no problems keeping up with the processor, RAM, video card, 3TB of internal storage, Blu-Ray burner, 1394 card for video capture and an e-SATA drive on the side. Why buy off the shelf, when building is so easy and produces such great results? I couldn't be more pleased.
Notes:
-- Unlike some earlier Shuttle machines, there is no built in IEEE-1394 port or display output. You need a graphics card (and a 1394 card if you want that option.)
-- There are 4 SATA connectors on the motherboard but only two 3.5" drive bays and one 5.25" optical drive bay.
-- If you're new to building from barebones and in doubt as to what to put in it, go to the Shuttle web site and look at what they put into their complete systems starting with the same barebones box.

(More customer reviews)I ordered this Windows 7 touch tablet while waiting for months for the HP slate 500, which I have not received yet.
After I ordered, I realized that I had no clue who the manufacturer was, but I kept the order.
The tablet arrived in a few days, and, surprise, surprise, it works!
I have so much trouble with my Windows HP laptops at home and at work, so I was amazed that this tablet, which looks like an oversize iPhone, has a fast touch response.
The touch screen works best with my wireless mouse, because it seems it expects pinpoint input. It also works with finger tip and capacitive stylus, but I have trouble pointing accurately. In some cases, finger touch causes duplicate entries. I saw the same problem reported for the HP slate in a slate blog, at least by some users.
The tablet does not come with a relevant manual (generic was included), so I am not sure I am using the tablet input correctly, as I have not used a Windows touch tablet before. The screen dimensions, long and narrow, are a bit awkward, but using the tablet in landscape mode works well, because scrolling is relatively fast.
I have an iPad, and I mainly bought this tablet for Adobe flash content and Windows compatible programs. The tablet came with Windows 7 and Microsoft office 2007.
What about warranty? The seller told me there is a two- year warranty, through the seller.
The tablet came with a European rather than a US plug for the charger, and the seller responded promptly to correct the problem.
Based on interactions with the seller, I believe that the warranty will be honored, if the seller remains in business and can be reached.

Thinkpads, generally in my experience have by far the best laptop keyboards I've used. This is my fifth (at least) Thinkpad and my second X series (previous was X60). I have found them all to be remarkably reliable with excellent ergonomics. I especially love small touches, like the little mouse in the center of the keyboard (looks like a pencil eraser). Thinkpad seems to have the only truly effective implementation compared to other I've tried such as Toshiba. Also 3 USB ports. Nice. VERY lightweight, speedy enough. I LIKE that they did not put a cd/dvd drive in this unit. I'd rather use external given how infrequently I need it. X200 has built-in camera - I still have not figured out how to turn it off - so careful with your attire while surfing Facebook y'all!
So I am thrilled with this unit, loved my X60 for the 2+ years that I had it, and the T series before that. These things seem designed for "road warriors" like me.
Also be sure to get the small travelers A/C adaptor that Lenovo sells for these. I think I paid $35 for mine. Nice.

(More customer reviews)It's a very good computer. It is or seems very slow at first. Once I Installed Google Chrome everything was faster. The webcam works very well and has no problems whatsoever. The touch screen is very accurate.
The screen IS multi-touch as well as the trackpad.
And finally, The laptop has a nice finish to it with the texture and look of it.Tip: It isn't mentioned anywhere, but if you want to right click with the touch screen fast, tap and hold the place where you want it to right click and tap with another finger somewhere else. Don't let go of the first finger until you can see that it has right clicked.
(When I say tap and hold that means you touch the screen and leave it there. And when I just say tap that only means To touch the screen and let go.)

(More customer reviews)This size computer has become popular because it hits a sweet spot between portability and functionality. I first purchased an Asus ultralight 13.3 inch notebook last fall, and it has been terrific. When my daugher needed a new notebook, she wanted one like mine due to its portablity, light weight, full web-page-sized 1366x768 screen, low power use, and higher processing power when compared to a netbook. (Netbooks, with their smaller 1366x600 screens and single core processors, are less functional in my opinion, although they can weigh a pound-or-so less.)
As compared with my Asus UL30a-X5, this notebook is similarly priced and has nearly identical specs. I purchsed the DM3 due to a local sale, and with a trade in on an old notebook it ran 450. The differences between the Asus and this notebook are as follows. The Asus is a square, flat, brushed metal finish while the HP has an elegant curved style with a design etched into it...win: HP. The Asus weighs 3.75lbs and has slightly longer battery life, the HP weighs 4.2lbs....win: Asus. Both with 1.3 Ghz dual core processors (although Asus is Intel C2D, HP is AMD X2 K325), both have 4ghz RAM, both have full versions of Win7 Home 64-bit, both have 13.3" LED LCDs...tie. Unexpectedly, the HP has a marginally faster 320gb 7200rpm HDD, the Asus a larger 5400rpm 500gb...winner=your choice.
Functionality of the notebook is great, as long as you're not trying to do processor-intensive tasks. Nice clear, bright screen. Boots up quickly, and the initial screen gives you a choice of a proprietary Linux-like web browser-email-picture viewer-music-video player OR Win7. The 4gb ram allows quite a bit of multitasking without a noticable decline in performance. I notice no difference in speed between the two notebooks, and they both work great for word processing, web brousing, and playing video and music. I've loaded the FREE Microsoft Security Essentials, and it does not seem to slow down the machine at all. (Unlike some other resource hungry anti-virus-spyware program suites.) Chicklet keyboard is typical of this style (I prefer a regular keyboard) and the touchpad is easy to use. None of these UltraLights have DVD drives, so if you need one figure that into the price if you need one. It is helpful to have one because you should either make a set of restore DVDs from the factory HDD, or you can use a (very large) USB drive.
Overall a fine computer with exceptional design and finish. Recommended.
