Currently, I'm sitting on the sofa supervising my Peanut taking a nap on the bobby pillow. I've been camped out inside for quite a bit now and I'm starting to get creative on how to get out of the house in-between feedings.

I thought while I have a moment, I should write a blog on his arrival. Let me say before I tell the tale, that I recognize that being pregnant and having my boy is a great blessing. I had a good pregnancy and a pretty easy birth.

Saying that, I do need to tell you how great it feels to not be pregnant. Oh my goodness, it is amazing!

So here's the story of his arrival.

The week before my due date, just after my 39 week Dr. appointment on Monday, I went for one more Costco run. I bought a small cabinet for our living room and toted it home. I don't consider this part of "nesting" b/c this is not abnormal for me to be working on some kind of decorating idea. I think I was just distracting myself from thinking about how close I might be to giving birth. I seem to just not want to think about the pending adventure.

Bear had specifically asked the Peanut to not come until he had completed a task at work. He thought that he would be done with a certification that week and was hoping to get it out of the way before taking time off for family leave.

It was now Wed. and Bear called home to let me know that he had completed certification and it was an all clear to go into labor at anytime. =) This, we thought was just us being silly, but later that evening, God must have given Logan an all clear, b/c that's when the action started.

I woke about midnight with pains that took me several minutes to figure out I was having contractions. The pain did not feel like anything I thought they would. It was very different and low in my back. I noticed that I was walking on my tip toes about every 5 mins. so I woke the Bear. I shook him awake and said "somethings going on" - he replied, " is someone trying to break in?" (Hee hee) I informed him that it was something going on with me & the baby and he said "oh" with a lot of relief.

We thru our stuff in the car and went to the hospital, got checked in and by then it was close to 2am. They observed me and said that I was 2cm and that I was in labor but would be more comfortable at home and could come back when any of the following occurred:
1) My water broke
2) My contractions were 2-3 mins apart for an hour
3) I was 4cm

We returned home and I took some Tylenol PM and slept until late morning. I did ask the Bear to stay home with me and not go to work on Thursday b/c I was in such pain.

Thursday morning I was still contacting and we started documenting the timing b/c it was very hard to remember as the pain hit. I don't remember to much that morning other than I baked some brownies in between the pain.

Thursday was a very long day. After lunch they got worse and I was unable to get off the bed. I took more Tylenol and cried a good bit. Bear stayed with me as I wined and begged him to take me back to the hospital. But each time he reviewed the contraction log, he'd reminded me that he did not want to take me there and them send me home. He knew that I would not be happy if I had to ride back and forth another time. Rush hour came and went and that was the time that I really wanted to get in the car. He said if I could wait just a bit longer that the contractions were getting closer together and we'd make it there in less time than if we had to sit in all the work traffic.

At about 8pm I broke down and told him that I didn't think I could get into the seat of our car and that we'd need to call an ambulance. He reassured me that if I could just get to the car, he'd get me to the hospital. I grabbed my pillows and sat in the front seat with the seat reclined as far as I could and hung on the the handle. I didn't open my eyes until we reached the hospital.

Once there, I sat in this little wood and steel chair that was right at the check-in desk at the maternity entrance. While waiting for a nurse to come and get me I started writhing in pain and calling out to Jesus. That's when the guests in the lobby of the Women's center started moving away from us. The receptionist called the nurse again to urge the nurse to hurry up.

Once in the room, the nurse hooked us up to observe our vitals and asked me to take deeper breaths. I continued writhing and she threaten to put me on oxygen if I did slow down my breathing. Bear jumped in and tried to grab my focus and get me to breath.

The nurse did admit me b/c I was at 4cm and they hooked the IV up and here's the best part of the story...they gave me drugs! Once the relief of what ever the pushed into my IV hit me I opened up my eyes and smiled. I actually saw what my nurse and the room looked like. It was great, I could still feel the contractions but I was in less pain.

A few moments later, they gave me the epidural. This was a bit scary b/c they had some trouble numbing me and I could feel the needle. I yelled very loudly each time they tried. They did get it to work and then I felt no more contractions what so ever.

The next part was easy. They gave me some Pitocin to progress the labor more. Bear and I took like a 3 hour nap. Occasionally the nurse would come in to check my progress but I don't really remember waking up. About 3am the nurse checked on me and said, wake up it's time to push. I was so groggy from sleep I asked her how long did she think I was going to have to push? She replied " Oh honey, not long, I can see your baby's hair color." I yelled for Bear to wake up.

The nurse did some practice pushes with me b/c the epidural had worked really well and I could not feel anything. So she did her best to guide my efforts. Once she felt confident I had it she called the Doctor in. I think I pushed maybe 6 times? That's what I mean as easy. Before we knew it, Bear presented me with a baby boy and we heard his cry. As they laid him on my stomach, I though...whoa a boy, and I felt something wet and warm as he tinkled on me. Then I really thought - what in the world am I going to do with a BOY?!

Bear looked him over and smiled - he's a Logan. =)

Color

We decided to paint the nursery a Behr paint color called Fortress Stone.

This small swatch comes across less green than the actual paint color. But we liked the how it was in between a gray/sage/taupe that would allow us to switch up the room as the baby grows.

I selected 2 fabrics at JoAnns, one was a gold that has a sweet snow berry pattern. The twigs are brown and the berries are white. The 2nd is a subtle chocolate dot pattern, the small dots are gold.

I made simple window panels and have plans to make a quilt as the the weather gets cooler. May make a pillow to match but I found some great pillows from West Elm that matched the wall paint. They are mixed textures but all the same color. There's one that I'll embroider with the baby's name once we know.

My FIL and husband made a great tray top for an existing chest of drawers - this was a great way to use it as our changing table. I finished it with several different stains and then rubbed it with a bees wax matte coating instead of using lacquer.

I bought a sweet little side table for like $20 at Hobby Lobby. The distressed finish works great in the room.

Preperation

As much as we can, we've slowly but surely, made a wonderful space for our expected little one. In this new home, we were blessed with a prior owner that had wonderful taste for paint color. The living and kitchen rooms are warm browns, the master bedroom is a wonderful green and both baths are thoughtfully painted. The only room that needed a change was the spare bedroom that we'll use as the nursery.

As quoted from Steel Magnolias;

Truvy: What are your colors, Shelby?
Shelby: My colors are "blush" and "bashful."
M'Lynn: Her colors are "pink" and "pink."

Since we haven't found out Little Bits gender we decided that we'd change this room up. We did have thoughts as we made changes as to what if 5 years from now we had a little girl who begged for a pink bedroom? We decided that it was worth the risk - I'll take my chances that we might can stage an intervention.

Things are green! The puppies are trotting in the back just out the window. And I am trying to post a needed update on this here blog. Usually, I'm not yearning for the spring time as much as I am this year. The last four to five months have been pretty icky. I'm close to 20 weeks along, expecting our first and it's felt like I had lost my ability to function. The nausea kick my tail and food was my enemy in all kinds of ways. But things have slowly cleared and a couple of weeks ago, I regained some sanity.

We're also moving to a new home and I'm really excited. Things have been nice here in our little rental house in OB, but I'm so ready for our new space. We have some small improvements that need to be done around the time we move in. The yard is bigger and I can't wait to release the hounds in they're new home. We'll have more space for us too- more lawn, more room!

Since we're packing, I've had to store the art supplies away just when my ability kicked in. I've had sewing inspiration as I try to find cute comfortable clothes to wear, but that will need to wait until I get in our new space.

Work is going good for Bear and he's progressing well. I've been continually blessed with a great freelance project that seems to be very well timed and I love working on my own. I've also had several other opportunities put before me but I felt that the timing was off with the move but I'm hoping that I can come back to them when it's more realistic. God's provision is evident and I once again am blessed beyond measure and literally blooming.

Bobbie-

Bobbie is in her late 30's and lives near Northeast, GA. We met at church and developed a close friendship right away. She is sweet Southern woman who is wise, thoughtful and talented person. She loves a good adventure, she plays several musical instruments, loves Jeep rides, fly fishing and enjoys being out doors with her two beagles. She's recently made two trips to Europe and is looking forward to the next travel trip, possibly a mission trip. She adores God, her family and her friends.

(I have to add that Bobbie inspired one of my favorite memories. On the day that she purchased her Jeep Wrangler, I went with her to pick it up. On the way home, I was following behind her and I caught a glimpse of her smile in the side-view mirror of her Jeep and I have to say that her smile rated as one of the top-five smiles I can remember!)

I pray that she finds Godly man that can enjoy life's adventure with my awesome friend Bobbie.

Sarah-

Sarah is in her mid 30's and lives in Boston, MA. But she's originally from Georgia. We met in high school and I have been blessed with her friendship ever since. She has a heart for teenagers, loves Jesus and works in student ministry. She is a joyful, passionate and encouraging person. She likes to travel, loves baseball, she's a great baker and enjoys a good cup of coffee. She has a pretty big network of friends because she has touched so many lives. She has wonderful parents (her Mom saved me and my veil the night before my wedding after a small incident with the iron!), brother & sister-in-law and a new niece!

I pray that she meets a wonderful Godly man that can take her to baseball games and enjoy how wonderful my friend Sarah is!

First weekend in November we headed to the private airport to visit a WWII bomber plane, a B-17. It was really a pretty plane. I'm not into planes, but this era of planes interest me b/c of the vintage pin-up art that graced the sides of the planes. I really like the Americana story of pilots naming their airplanes after wives, sweethearts & mothers. Sure enough, there was a graceful lady perched on the side of the nose, she had lighting bolts on either side, like she was a force to be reckoned with. They called her the Aluminum Overcast.

Bear wanted to take the tour but wound up taking a flight on this B-17. He was beyond happy.

I took the tour and listed to the visitors, some of whom were veterans, tell stories and reminisce of the missions they had experienced.

Really glad that I went, it was a great piece of history to discover.

So my Bear and I had a pretty good weekend. We had a yard sale on Sat. morning b/c it was time for our subdivision's annual one. One year ago this weekend, I was coming from PS- our Jeep loaded down with doggies- looking for our little home here in OB. That night we would go to sleep super early since we both had been tired from the changes and our move.

After the yard sale we went to try the Best Mexican restaurant in Memphis. Our Sunday newspaper sent us a guide with the "Best of" in the area. It's been very helpful in letting us try and vote on the recommended places. And I was pleasantly surprised that it was very good and will be visited again, and often.

After dinner we headed to downtown Collierville, TN to see the historic area. It was very charming and I'm disappointed that we had not visited before. It seems to be a great place to shop and eat, and it has an old steam engine train that Bear was interested in.

We went so late that all the stores were closed and so I want to go back and do some shopping. There was also some nice looking places to eat and a super cute gas station that looked like the one in the movie Cars.

The weather was also right in the middle of changing as we were walking around the square. The wind was blowing and it was bringing in a cold front for the evening. It was perfect!

Highlight of my weekend was the swine 500 at the Delta Fair. No, really, that's what I requested to do on our fun day out. We cheered for the little pig in lane 3 but he wasn't encouraged enough to make it to the cookie reward first!

We did head to the Fair at the Agricenter and it was all a Fair could be. Lots of scary portable metal rides that play really loud metal music and lots of strange smells. That's all I'm saying. But I was there for the animals.

We went to the petting zoo, Bear bought me some oats to give to all the critters. It was so much fun. We also saw ostriches, emus & did I mention pigs?

Wrapping up the eveing, we ate some great mexican food in this hole in the wall place that made us say mmm, mmmm.

Thanks to some super sweet folks I got an invitation to come pick my favorite fruit right off the vine today. I love this time of the year because not only does my favorite fruit come in season, but it means the cooler weather is on its way.

When we got home today, I was hungry. I got my new Country Living magazine this week and there was a new recipe that I wanted to try.

It's been really hot here. Like "is the air working?" hot. It's been my task this week to keep the furry furries that live outside as cool as possible. I found intstrustions online in how to make these PVC dog beds that get the puppies off of the hot ground and give them a canvas bed that get the air circulating under them. Online they're quite pricey so back at the end of June with much help from the Bear and my niece, we made the first one. We also place a box fan right at the edge of the bed, and we make some shade, and the pups seem to be very happy. They've given up the cedar filled dog homes for the cool cabana life.

Today, I was able to cut the pipe and make the second one so they both have there own. No snuggling when it's this hot. Also, the beds do really well in the rain and a few days ago, I was able to video a small bit of the sweetness that is Bonnie and Clyde.

My portion of or downstairs closet was out of hand. I had winter mixed with summer and I had lost enough space to actually hang a garment. So today was the day and the donation pile has potential of scaring a small child. Though now theres space...hmmm.

Since my last post I haven't been inspired to post anything. Until I read a couple of blogs that were a list of 84 insightful things about yourself. I really liked the posts. So here's mine.

Man, May came and went and left me somewhere back around the 15th. I can't believe June's almost over!

The heat's here too. I'm blogging in the middle of the day b/c any bit of effort I exude I begin to sweat like I've been running a marathon. Ceiling, oscillating, & box fans are assisting the AC to keep us and the furry ones from overheating. Can't wait to see the power bill. =)

So here are some pictures from the month that flew by:

This was Mayfest in downtown OB. They had a car show and this was a pretty creative hot rod. It was a rolling outhouse- but it was loaded with great design and wit - I'm not really into car shows but this was great to look every detail.

Memphis International BBQ fest was a treat b/c a dear friend came into town to go with us. Lots of free treats but it was hot and muggy. So the best treat in my opinion was the fruit popsicle!

Next was a trip back to GA to do some free-lance work and hang out with the family. Here's a couple of noteworthy images. My oldest niece is dating a cute young fellow and he's brave enough to come to family gatherings. Bless his heart, they're picture on the sofa there at my parents house. So after we ate, they went down by the creek to sit on a swing for a while. Well we hear the 2 younger nieces, one is a sister and one a cousin, being stealthy and spying on them down on the swing. We asked them what they expected to see and they both smiled really big.

When home, I also did some ancestry research. My Dad took me to Sandy Springs & Alpharetta to visit some family graves and to speak with my great Aunt. It was a very informative trip and I documented the visit and learned a lot.

Was able to scan this photo of my Great-grandmother that passed away in 1979. She was so young in this photo, I had only seen pictures of her when she was elderly.

Let's see the next was when I went back to GA, Bear went to a crawfish boil. I had been to one when I was about 9yrs old when visiting my Aunt's home in Baton Rouge. But I don't think I tried the crawfish. All I can remember was catching the clayfish down in the my creek back home and I don't think I could stomach eating these things after those memories. However, Bear enjoyed them very much.

Ewwe.

On to Memorial day and Birthday cake!

Sista P, Jim & EC came through OB on their way back from vacay out in TX. I was so excited for EC to visit us b/c I'm trying to entice her to come out and stay a week and hang out!

All of the furry ones where happy to have guests. I thought EC and Satchel were going to implode after seeing each other.

We celebrated Sista P's birthday with an OB bakery strawberry cake. I think it was a hit. It was very moist and sweet. Glad we have a great bakery so close by.

See that smile - that's a happy sister =).

And on Memorial day we went downtown to catch a minor league baseball game. We had some good seats and found some shade.

So it was a good month - and lots of good times. Maybe that's why I'm still back in May- who would want to leave?

It's the leg lamp all over again

Lots of excitement on this first day of May!

Storms are coming through and the tornado sirens have been serenading us all morning. In the midst of us preparing to take cover, Bear steps out the front to take a look at the sky. A large box was sitting at the front door, and packages are always exciting. I remember that I had won a prize from an online contest. And it was here. An email had alerted me that I had won a sauce pan a while back and I totally forgot. (I know - a sauce pan.) But upon opening the box I had a flash from the classic movie, A Christmas Story, when the father gets his precious "fishnet leg lamp". I'm a bit excited to get something new, but a sauce pan? Exciting.

As I opened the box I see the nice packaging with a guy that I recognize from the Food Network. I'm impressed. Instead of the worn and well loved sauce pans that we have, it was a very heavy, art like pan with a glass lid and it was very pretty! Take a look-

We decided to head east to see family/friends before Bear starts his next formal training class at work. For the next few months his focus will be on this, so no 3-day weekends to travel on.

Headed out Thursday morning and he was going to his folks house and he dropped me off in P-town. I met up with my good friends that I haven't hung with since last summer.

We went down to Thomasville, GA to a cheese dairy called Sweetgrass.

Come to find out, this is the dairy that my Grandmother mentioned several times, saying that the owners were distant relatives of ours. My Mom did some research and gave me the background and sure enough, I looked up the owners on their site and confirmed that they were cousins of ours. My Mom gave me 2 photos of my Great-grandfather and his brother, to give to our relatives at the dairy.

The trip was fun and the food was great. Had good laughs and got to play with goats - big & small. Ate cheese, country Mennonite cooking & baked goods. Hugged a huge 329 year old oak tree, made fun of each other and did I mention laugh?

Got home later on Sat. hung with the PS family

and made it to SSchool to see all of our missed church friends.

It was a good weekend.

It's been 3 years today! Looking back it seems shorter than that, it really feels like its been a year? Some things have changed, jobs, house & location. But not the important stuff. The stuff that anchors us together like God's love, our love and the fun we have helping each other. These are the things I look forward to each day and if God gives it - many years to come!

Update: Sewing the seeds of love

So here's the finished project:

I worked on it Friday and I probably put 5-6 hrs into it and I finished everything but the coordinating fabric hem. The pattern was pretty easy the fabric is 100% cotton so it took a lot of pressing. I think the next one I might try a cotton blend so as to get more ease in the fabric.

That's the only song I could think of that had the word "sewing" in it, so that's what you get.

Here's the sewing pattern I bought for $1.99 - I'm going to try and make the simplistic version on the right.

I bought an olive drab fabric with light olive pin stripes and a coordinating modern polka dot for the secondary fabric.

We'll see how "easy" this pattern is. If all goes well, I'll have a new Easter dress I can wear Sunday. If not I'll have a smock I can paint in.

I'm a day late. I kept thinking that for a St. Patty's day post I'd show some pics of my trip to Ireland.

My mom and I went in 2005 and had a great time. We went in May and we saw tons of green pastures and the most rock walls, buildings and basically anything one can build with rock.

I want to go back soon, I'd like to see the northern country.
