It drives me crazy to constantly be propositioned to spend more money and sign up for something new that will probably put me on somebody’s mailing list. That is, except for the Pure Privilege card.

Since I regularly buy the same Aveda products, it was a no-brainer for me to spend $10 to sign-up. If you are a regular buyer of product and willing to redeem the points, it quickly pays for itself.

Here are the prizes and point levels currently available with the Pure Privilege card.

To accumulate points, you sign-up for the program and then make sure you mention your PP account and/or show your PP card when buying product. You can also earn points at salons if you go to a participating salon. I recently made the mistake of going to an Aveda salon that didn’t accept the Pure Privilege card so I spent a bunch of money without earning any points. Click here to search for Pure Privilege locations where you can sign-up as well as earn points. You can also earn points from orders placed on Aveda.com.

You accumulate 10 points per dollar spent generally unless there’s a special promotion going on. I currently have 4,300 points and since my goal is to get to that fabulous spa in Jamaica, that’s only 45,700 more to go. Being rewarded for buying Aveda products and then getting to end up here? Yes, please.

I’ve got crazy hair that’s thick and wavy and has never been easy to handle. I’ve tried straightening it and that either didn’t work or took too long. At some point, I decided that I’d just have to work with the waves and thickness instead of against them.

Thanks to a fantastic stylist who gave me a great layered cut but also taught me this formula, I’m now very low maintenance and have fantastic hair as well.

The formula is this: squirt some Confixor Liquid Gel and some Be Curly Enhancer into your palm. Use about a quarter-sized to half-dollar sized of each. Mix them around in your hand.

Work it through your wet hair and then pick or brush your hair to make sure there aren’t any concentrated areas where the product is. Blow dry, ideally with a diffuser, while scrunching your hair. I usually just blow dry mine for 4-5 minutes and then let my hair air dry the rest of the way while scrunching it periodically. Side benefit of this method is that the damp hair with the Confixor on it smells divine and people will wonder what perfume you’re wearing.

Voila! That’s it.

Bonus tip: If you don’t have to wash your hair daily but want the benefit of this method, take the same amount of product you’d normally squeeze into your palm and squeeze it into a squirt bottle. Add a bit of water to dilute and make it sprayable. Spray the mixture onto your hair and scrunch. Your hair will be rejuvenated and the same curl will come back.

I’ve actually asked the salespeople in the Aveda stores if they thought these two products could be packaged together and sold for this purpose. I’ve been told they are taught to sell them a specific way within each line so that probably won’t happen.

What about you? Do you have a magical Aveda product combo that works for you?

If you’re like me and always use the same products, this is a very convenient service and one of the few ways to save money on Aveda products.

How to Do It

When you’re on a product page, look to the right below the “Add to Shopping Cart” buttons and you’ll see your options. Click on the “Subscribe Now” button and proceed through the checkout process like normal. Easy way to automate one portion of your life plus save a little cash in the process.

Maybe you don’t.

I can remember it distinctly.

When I’m away from home, I don’t usually travel with my own shampoos and conditioners. Products, yes. Shampoos and conditioners, no. I just use whatever is available where I’m going.

I was staying with my best friend and the shampoo and conditioner she happened to have was Aveda’s Rosemary Mint. I used this and was a little shocked at the tingly, minty feel of it but afterward could immediately tell a difference. Couldn’t believe how good my hair felt and how good the product smelled. I was hooked.

BFF has totally different hair than me and I knew that I’d have to seek out the right shampoo and conditioner for my hair but I thought if the wrong product did this well for me, the right product would have to be amazing. And it was.

RIP, Sap Moss

Did you have a specific moment as I did? Or have you just been lucky (as my daughter has) to never have known a world without Aveda products?

I always go in pretty much knowing what I want to buy and I am always pleasantly surprised when the salesperson recommends one of the sensory rituals. Sure, I’d love to have my hands or neck massaged! I’d gladly take a cup of the delicious Aveda Tea.

Here’s the official list of sensory rituals they might offer. Offerings vary by location. Which is your favorite?

Cup of Aveda Comforting Tea Ritual

Stress-Relieving Hand Ritual
Dual sensations—touch and aroma—further comfort and release cares. A rejuvenating treatment for hard working hands.

Face Color Finishing Touch
A three-to-five minute face or color touch-up teaches you new makeup options.

Skin Care Ritual
Experience customized skin care as an Aveda Advisor recommends the perfect products for your skin’s health and well-being.

Hair Styling Ritual
Your hair care needs can change seasonally, with a new hair style or a new life style. Let an Aveda Advisor guide you to the ideal shampoo, conditioner and styling products to fit your life today.

Pure-Fume Application
An application of a Pure-Fume aroma completes a wonderfully holistic experience.

What’s your favorite sensory ritual? I always love having some Aveda tea but reallly love the scalp and shoulders ritual. My neck feels tingly the rest of the day and it’s nice to come out of a store more relaxed than when you went in. What about you?

Now that I know of these 3 locations for finding reviews, I will read before trying a new product.

1.) Aveda.com’s customer reviews. Aveda.com just recently created this section containing customer reviews. In addition, they are running a contest for those who contribute to be entered into a sweepstakes for a chance to win Aveda gift cards.

2.) Aveda products on Amazon.com. Since Aveda products are now sold on Amazon.com, there are the typical Amazon reviews to go with the products.

3.) Makeupalley.com reviews. I love the MUA community because there are reviews on everything from drugstore brands to high-end products. I’ve had a lot of success finding new products by reading the reviews contained on MUA.

What other source of reviews should I have listed? What’s your favorite way to make decisions on buying a new product?
