Hello viewers,

the ilovecomix archive is still alive and kicking. We made big decisions a few years ago and moved the www.ilovecomixarchive.com. We are now using the fabulous system provided by www.Box.com. Unlimited storage, amazing bandwidth, viewer friendly, collaboration positive. With all these new and amazing features we, are hoping to see the archive thrive and be very successful down the road.

Dumping Google & Moving Forward

Well,

the ilovecomix archive has made a big decision to dumped Google Drive as a host for the www.ilovecomixarchive.com and we are now using Barracuda Systems https://copy.com?r=DCF076. We have been using copy for a month now since we discovered Google Drive has a sync problem. Copy is working like a charm and we are up to 160 gig so far in content.

We Are Still Alive and Scanning

Hello everyone, it has been a long time since we last posted on the ilovecomix Archive blog. Yes we are still around and are actively scanning. Today we decided to post a quick shout out to say, we are still online and operational for you to view the compiled archive of comic strips. Check out the public ilovecomix Archive at:

We do know it has been a few years from our last post. We have been super busy with the 8k project and are adding on average around 1500 scans a month to the archive. Look for a few years worth of new scans in early 2014.

We Have a Possible Solution

OK, the ilovecomix archive site may be gone but the file sharing and swapping is still going on among us. I have found a P2P program that allows users to connect to the folders on my computer and share all the images you want with each other.

I have found a program called Gigatribe. Its a small very simple program that packs a big punch. It allows invited users to share files very easily with each other. I have set up a group for the users of the ilovecomix Archive and the daily dose yahoo group. Once you have downloaded, and registered you will need to either look me up in the program or send me you're user name and i will add you to the group so you can download and share files with me. Look at this as a hidden but very accessible file server for the comic collectors in us. I am hosting over 200 GB in newspaper comic files so come take a look and lets swap.

When the internet changes keep pushing forward

When Larry Smith a republican from Texas decided to introduce his bill, H R 3261, or as most call it S.O.P.A it may not have seemed like anything a the time. But hidden in the line and lines of text was a scary thing that may change the internet as we know it forever. The originally proposed bill would allow the U.S. Department of Justice, as well as copyright holders, to seek court orders against websites accused of enabling or facilitating copyright infringement. Depending on who requests the court orders, the actions could include barring online advertising networks and payment facilitators such as PayPal from doing business with the allegedly infringing website, barring search engines from linking to such sites, and requiring Internet service providers to block access to such sites. The bill would make unauthorized streaming of copyrighted content a crime, with a maximum penalty of five years in prison for 10 pieces of music or movies within six months. The bill also gives immunity to Internet services that voluntarily take action against websites dedicated to infringement, while making liable for damages any copyright holder who knowingly misrepresents that a website is dedicated to infringement. Proponents of the bill say it protects the intellectual property market and corresponding industry, jobs and revenue, and is necessary to bolster enforcement of copyright laws especially against foreign websites. Opponents say that it infringes on First Amendment rights, is Internet censorship, will cripple the Internet, and will threaten whistle-blowing and other free speech. It could even provide means to shut this blog down.

As many of you may have noticed this is not the former archive site. After a three week battle, with many emails to say the least, my 3 year host Smugmug pulled the plug on us. They stated and I quote "All the images I've seen on your site look to be owned by others and you've been selling them for a profit. We'll need you to send back the written releases that give you the authority to post and sell images that are owned by others"

If selling a digital copy of an image for $.03 or less to 1 out of 50000 people who were viewing the site. I really do not see how this is a "for profit allegation". I still do not see how we are in complete violation of copy right infringement and making money and not abiding from the laws regarding "Fair Use". Hobby sites ask for donation all the time by means of Paypal and other online paying sites. So offering this means of massive downloading and not using Paypal was an easy way for the viewer to get the many strips quickly they wanted.

Well, with the changing time means we must change. Currently we are Looking for alternative means to host our site. We are looking into the possibilities of going the way of the once used FTP server and build our own, or create a smaller site that is not hosting all of our hard years of collecting?.

With all the time, effort, and many man hours involved with this site we do not want it to disappear forever in the wind. We do not want to revert back to just emailing hundreds of images to each other. After all this is a wonderful and entertaining hobby and if you have read this posting please please leave suggestion, ideas, ways to move forward, or help us find a new solution to our ever changing problem.

Ok, I usually don't write anything on my blog, The blog is more of a update link to the archive for big and important additions. Well I do want to announce something today and it's not a link to the archive or any new images. I have opened up the ilovecomix archive site to anyone who wants to add their "Newspaper images" to the archive. The archive was designed to help save our collection for others to view it, and provide a very nice image hosting site. The archive were also designed to let n00bs view past images and be on the same page once they join in this new hobby.
With dozens of yahoo newspaper comic groups the archive site was greatly needed.

If you want to add your images to the archive please read the following document I have created that gives guidelines on what to add and gives detail on how to add your collection.

Well, iv'e gone and done it. I have registered yet another domain name. I done went and bought www.ilovecomixarchive.com. Test it out, it works like a charm. No more smugmug in the title anymore. The site now looks official. It's just like any other web site it's a real site. No ilovecomix.smugmug in the title any more. Oh and if you wondering ilovecomix.smugmug will always work for as long as I keep the site up. So tell everyone, add me to your site links list, tell your comic collection friends too, or just drop me a line and let me know what you think of the new domain name.
