A lot of people said "These 3D pictures are giving me headache!" "These 3D pictures are making me dizzy!" But I still love my HTC EVO 3D :)

Well, sometimes, when the 3D pictures are taken, the camera is not aligning it too good. It is using 2 cameras on the back to create the cool 3D effect. The good news is, you can fix the alignment to make the picture more clear afterward. Here is how you can adjust the 3D alignment.

1. Open the picture you would like to adjust.

2. Tap on the picture, a menu like the following would show.

3. Tap on the "magic wand", you will see a option menu of what you could do to the picture.

4. Tap on "Adjust 3D alignment", then, you will see 2 "boxes" on the side. That's how you will tap and adjust the alignment of the picture.

5. When you are done, tap on "Save". Then, the picture is aligned!

So, which camera is it using when you are taking picture in 2D? One way to find out is to switch to the 2D picture mode, cover one of the lens on the back and find out. Or, the answer is, the one near the top of the phone.

This app allows you to find out which carrier has the best coverage in your area, free access to coverage maps 100% community powered. Basically, it collects data from users and create the coverage map. It's very cool!

When you first install, you can choose if you want to participate in sending the data. You can choose "Yes" to allow the application to collect and send data anonymously on the background; "Active only" when you view the maps; or "No" for don't send. I set mine to "Active Only".

Once you are in, you can select the kind of map you want to view. There is a "tool bar" on the bottom with various things you can tap on.

Tap on "Layer", then, you can pick "4G", "CDMA", "GSM", "WiFi", then, you tap on the network you want to see coverage map for.

Or you can also search for another area by using the "Search" function (tap on the magnifying glass). Want to mention that this should work not only in the U.S. but also in 15 countries.

Get organized! Create Folders on Android!

Having icons all over the place is quite annoying and it is hard to find sometimes. I was glad to see that I could create "Folders" on my HTC EVO 3D. This is not new for the EVO 3D. This is how you would do it on the EVO 3D though.

1. Tap on "Personalize" or long press on any open space on the Android Home Screen.

2. Tap on "Folders" in the "items to Home" section.

3. You will see a list of folder types you could add. There are pre-defined ones such as "Phones", "Bluetooth received", "Phones", "All People", "Recent Documents", "Starred" like your favorite, or you could define a "New Folder" and put items you like in it.

4. Tap on the folder you like to add and you will see the folder created on your Home Screen.

5. For example, to add items to my folder called "setting", I tab on the app I like to add, and drag it to the folder. The folder would open and drop in there.

6. To change the folder name, open the folder, long press the top bar, then you can change the name!

There are lots of folder organizer apps available in the Market also if you like to explore!

Screenshot It - Great app to screen capture on Android Phone

To do screen capture on Android Smartphone, I would recommend the Screenshot It app. As you see, I have taken many screen captures on my HTC EVO 3D phone.

As you know, once you rooted the phone, it's no longer under warranty, plus, there is not rooted version of the HTC EVO 3D phone as of yet, so, for any solution, I would stay away from the need of rooting the phone.

As I search on the apps in the Android Market, I came across the Screenshot It app.

Searching through the list of Screen Capture apps, almost all of it requires the phone to be rooted, finally, I find one that doesn't. It's the No Root Screenshot It app. I love it the fact that I can get what I needed done without messing around with the phone.

For installation, you do need to download the USB Driver for your phone, and also install the "Screenshot It Enabler" desktop application onto your computer.

After following the steps to install the app, to use the app is pretty easy.

The app has a few features I like.
1. You can choose the delay of how long before the screen capture is taken. That allows you time to get to the screen you like to capture.
2. I love the "Shake to screenshot" option. This allows me to just shake the phone a little bit, and it would know I want to take a screenshot. Excellent. I can even adjust the Shake Strength.
3. I can choose to save the file either in jpeg or png format.
4. More options you could set as you see from the following screen shot.

In order to use the "No Root Screenshot It", you need to "Enable" it every time should your phone is restarted. That's the only downside of the app. But hey, you don't have to root the phone, I would live with that!

To "Enable" it, you need set the phone in USB Debugging mode (from Settings - Application - Develpment)

Connect the phone through the USB port and leave it as "Charge Only."

Start the "Screenshot It Enabler" desktop application, when it's ready as it said "Phone found", click on the "Enable Screenshot It" button. Then, you are good to go!

After you've taken a screen shot, you could save into Galley, or it would be in this folder on your SD card.

All in all, it's a great app to use. I love it. The $4.99 I paid is well worthy.

On the HTC EVO3D, you can hold the "POWER BUTTON" on the top and tap on the "HOME" button. Then, a snapshot of the screen is taken.

Great work HTC !

Media Share - Another Cool DLNA Feature

Similar to the "Connected Media" feature on the HTC EVO 3D is "Media Share". This allows you to share the media content of your phone to a DNLA Enabled Device, such as your WiFi connected TV, through your PlayStation 3 PS3 or XBox 360, also to your Windows Media Play on the PC. Here is the steps of how to use the Media Share feature.

1. Tap on the "Media Share" app.

2. Set a "Media Server Name", select the type of files you want to share or the Folder you want to share. Turn on "Media Share" by check the "Share my media files" checkbox.

3. Turn on your Internet Enabled TV, or PS3, or XBox 360 etc. You will see your phone "media server" be listed. Here is how it looks on my Sony Bravia TV.

Connected Media through your HTC EVO 3D

I was mad at my husband the other day, why? He highjacked my TV! OK, not exactly, but as I was watching a TV show, all of a sudden, I saw a picture on the TV and I had no idea why! Turns out that my husband was playing with his HTC EVO 3D.

To be technical, this is a kind of DLNA (Digital Living Network Alliance) technology - which allows you to share media contents on DLNA certified devices.

You can do this when you have WiFi connection in the network. This allows you to easily share your pictures, videos and music from you phone to the TV (or other DLNA certified media devices). It would be useful when you want to show something from your phone to a bigger audience and you don't want to pass your cool HTC EVO 3D around!

So, how do you do it on your HTC EVO 3D?

1. Tab on the "Connected Media" app

2. Choose the media type to send to the nearby player

3. Then, select the player you want to send the media to, I chose to send to my TV -

4. Then, you will see the media (pictures, video, music) from your phone being send (in my case, my Sony Bravia TV)

Kill App processes - Task Manager

Task Manager on your phone? Sure there is! It's on the HTC EVO 3D which is running off of the Android 2.3 Gingerbread OS.

One of the improved feature on the HTC EVO 3D compare to the HTC EVO is the notification screen, where you "pull" the top bar to view notifications, status etc.

Now, you can view list "short cuts" of your last opened app and you can easily switch back, similar to how you can hold the "home" button.

Tap on the "Quick Settings" tab, you will find the list of comment settings, just like the ones you see on the default widget, like turn on/off the mobile hotspot, GPS, 4G, Bluetooth, etc.

Tab on the "Total Memory" row, you will see the "Task Manager"

It's a new feature. Here you can kill running applications and free up some memory. You might be familiar with the "Advanced Task Killer" app. I hear mixed review on that app. Some say actually it would make your phone run slower and drain lots of battery. For me, I rather use the native feature that comes with the phone.

Afterall, this phone has 1G of memory, lots more for you to play with, Ah, one more thing, make sure you Move your Apps to the SD card once you've installed it!

How to check Battery Level on EVO 3D

The HTC EVO 3D's battery is holding up pretty good, especially compare to the HTC EVO 4G. It's a big improvement.

Here are to steps of how to check the Battery Level on your HTC EVO 3D.

1. Go to "Settings" and tap on "About Phone"

2. You will then see a menu of various config about your phone. Tap on "Battery"

3. There you will see some high level information of the Battery usage, also the Battery Level tool bar, which would provide a better idea of how much battery is left.

4. Tap on "Battery use", you will see a list of detailed information of what is using the battery. (Pretty interesting though, I am not sure why "Bluetooth" is on my list when I didn't even have that turn on... again, I am not a techie :)

5. If you want even more information, tap on the top on the Line diagram, you will see the following screen which provides you even more details.

Alternatively, you can install the "Battery Use" Widget so you can get to screen on Step 4 directly.

Well, hope you enjoy the improved Battery life on the HTC EVO 3D like I do.

What are these squares? QR Code?

If you've been using a Smart Phone, you probably are familiar with these "squares" or the Quick Response Code or the QR code. In general, these are a type of barcode that contains much more information than the traditional 2D barcode that you typically see such as the UPC.

You probably see them everywhere nowadays. On a lot of products. The idea is it allows you to use your smart phone, such as your HTC EVO 3D, to instantly search on information on the product.

There are many "scanner" apps you could download from the Android Market. For me, I've downloaded the free "ScanLife" app.

It is pretty easy to use, you download from the Market, install it. Then, when you want to scan something, you just open that app, point at the barcode in the "rectangle" box, it will then search and take you to the information.

For example, when I scan the QR code on this marigold plant tab, I brought me to the following website directly for information.

Usually, scanner apps like this also be able to scan 2D regular barcode. For example, I used it for scan this barcode -

Of course, it is a type of information collections. It's a type analytic data for businesses. But for us the consumer, this could come in handle, when you are away from your computer and would like to look up some info. It's a cool way to go. You probably also have seen those QR codes on your boarding passes and other things.

How to Save my 3D pictures to 2D

I love my 3D pictures (with .mpo extension) on my cool HTC EVO 3D ... But I want to share my pictures with friends and families who doesn't have the cool phone yet! I want to share my 3D pictures on Facebook, or view on computer! What to do?

Well, one way to share 3D pictures is to upload to site http://www.3dporch.com/ It is a cool site where you could share 3D pictures, somewhat. But hey, it works!

Well, another way is you could save the 3D pictures to 2D, right on your phone.

Here are the steps to save the 3D pictures to 2D format on your HTC EVO 3D phone.

1. Tap on the Gallery app

2. Tap and Hold the picture you would like to convert. The 3D pictures would have the 3D mark on it.

3. The following menu would appear, Tap on "Edit"

4. Then, the following menu would appear, Tap on "Save as 2D"

5. Then, Tab "OK" (or Cancel if you don't want to proceed)

6. Woola! A copy of the 3D picture is saved in 2D!

Have lots of fun with the 3D functions! You can upload the 3D videos to YouTube too!

Oh No! Roaming!

But why am I roaming? I should be in an area that has coverage!

Well, maybe the phone is not getting signal from the tower? I really don't know. But one thing you could try to do, it's to update your phones "Preferred Roaming List", aka PRL. You can find the details here for the technical story.

What it does is it helps the phone to find cell towers to connect to. Once you've done the update, it could help the coverage.

So, how do you update the Preferred Roaming List on your HTC EVO 3D, here are the steps:

1. Touch the "menu" key (2nd one with the 4 horizontal bars), then touch "Settings"

2. Touch "Systems Updates"

System updates

3. Touch "Update PRL"

4. Your HTC EVO 3D will be checking for PRL updates.

5. Done! Tab OK and you are good to go! Hopefully not being roaming anymore!

Sync your Google Contacts

If you have been using an Android phone, you can easily sync up your contacts to Gmail. Then, your transition to your new COOL HTC EVO 3D would be like a breeze!

So, here is some simple steps of how to Export contact information to your Gmail account:

1) Press the Menu key (the second one with 4 horizontal bars), touch "Settings"

2) Select "Accounts & Sync"

3) Check Back ground data and AutoSync

4) Select the google account make sure it is set to sync contacts.

Now for the export

1) On your home screen, touch "People"

2) Press the Menu key (the second one with 4 horizontal bars), touch "Options"

3) Touch "Import/Export"

4) Touch "Export to SD Card"

5) Select an account for export -

7) Export to SD card! It will create a PCSC_PCSC_00001.VCF file on the SD card. (you can copy this to a computer and import into outlook or directly into Gmail using internet explorer if you like)

Basically, it is preferred to save all your contacts onto the Google account. So, it's on Google already and when you switch phone, you don't have to worry about any information being stay on the phone. So, you should do this procedure and see if there is any contacts saved on your "Phone" rather than "Google".

Once you export the information from "Phone", you can do similar procedure to "Import" the .VCF file back to Google. Depending on the number of contacts, it might take a while.

After you make sure all contacts are on Google, you can then safely delete the contacts that are on the phone.

When you save contacts, just make sure you save it to Google, rather than Phone.

Similar operation should work for all Android devices.

What time is it?

I woke up this morning and I thought to myself, are my eyes ok!?!?

Do you see what's wrong with this picture?

Yea! The Time! What's happening? Turns out the clocks are not quite in sync! Wished that it was still 7:08AM, of course, it has stayed at 7:08AM indefinitely! It was actually 7:51AM. Time to go!

I restarted the my lovely HTC EVO 3D, then the problem went away! Nice nice! Love it when it works with just a restart!

I got my New Phone! Now what?

Now you got your HTC EVO 3D, you can't wait to play with it! Several obvious quick steps you should do before diving it!

1. Do you have a Gmail account? If not, get one! It's ultra useful if not essential on an Android phone!

2. If you want to sync contact information directly, make sure all contacts are on your Gmail account. Transition would be seamless.

3. Get to a WiFi location and set up WiFi connection.

4. Once you get your phone, got your Gmail account set up on your phone, First thing First! Run a System Update to get the latest!

Press the Menu key (the second one with 4 horizontal bars), the following screen would appear:

Touch "Settings"

Swipe to the bottom and Touch "System updates"

Run the HTC software update by touching "Check Now"!
Run the update if needed. I would highly recommend to use the WiFi connection for running the first update. It's just a big one!

5. Continue to play with the new cool phone! 3D 3D 3D

4. After the package has been installed, you are ready to roll... I mean Cut!

Where are my icons!?

One thing quite annoying on the HTC EVO 3D is the icon pictures are gone! It happens to those apps that are stored on the SD card upon restarting the phone. What to do!

All you have to do is to go to "Personalize", pick another "Skin".

Woola! The Icons are back! Now, I just hope that they have a new update to fix all these things soon! :)

I Still Love It

Second Day since I started the blog, I still love my HTC EVO 3D. Of course, I might be bias as a long time customer of Sprint. All in all, it's still good.

As I've said, I am just an average person, who's not too techie, know a thing or two and just want to have some fun with the phone. Though some viewed as a gimmick, I am enjoying the 3D pictures and videos. It's just... cool. It can easily switch from 2D and 3D. 720p 3D video and 1080p HD video, can be output to your TV through HDMI. Cool! (I need a 3D TV now, j/k)

Of course, what sells the HTC EVO 3D is the speed. It runs the Android 2.3 Gingerbread OS, on a 1.2GHz Qualcomm 8660 Snapdragon processor. Though, I don't know what these number really means, I am enjoying it.

Today, I ran a couple of speed test.

HTC EVO 3D on Sprint 4G network at 11:16AM - Pretty impressive

Another test for the Sprint 3G network at 1:23PM. Not so fast this time. I will try again later when it is non peak hours.

I Got My EVO 3D, COOL!

As a Premier Sprint customer, I got my EVO 3D right when it was on the market. It's FAST and 3D pictures are COOL!

First off, it is Fast, I am switching from the HTC EVO 4G Android Phone (Sprint) to the HTC EVO 3D 4G Android Phone (Sprint). I fall in love with it immediately.

I am not that tech-savvy. I mean, I can use some devices, but mostly, I need to use with common sense. Android phones are pretty easy, as long as you have a google account. Since I was using the EVO, and all my contacts are on google, transition was seamless.

I like the size of the phone better than the last EVO. It's a little longer and not as wide. I added a case with the kickstand and I am good to go!

One thing you will notice is the speed. It's just FAST! As for the 3D pictures. Not bad and it's just FUN! I really like the 2 stage shutter button on the outside. It's easy to use just like a camera. Switching between 2D to 3D is a breeze. The 3D video is really cool! I have a lot of fun with that.

I am hoping to see more apps available on it. For those who know how, I am sure you can put the apps on it. I am a normal user who is waiting for things to show up on the Market. I think I should learn more or just defer to my husband to do it. (which he is also enjoying his EVO 3D!)
