Rehman Malik, Interior Minister has got his fully functional website up and live – even more pleasing is that he will be available for chat with general public for one hour fortnightly. That’s pretty impressive on his part.

If you look at this website, it has got plenty of sections, including Videos, Pictures, press releases, latest news and much more including a newsletter.

Are you amazed? Here is even more amazing that Mr. Malik has got his Facebook page, Myspace, Friendster and even You Tube Channel.

Facebook page or other profiles haven’t got much content, maybe Malik’s team is process of making right now. But if you look at website’s feel, it is evident that minister has got some serious plans to follow.

So that’s what we call online presence…!

Apparently this is not official website – meaning that not run by the Government of Pakistan, however, Mr. Malik’s staff would be running it. Domain name was registered in the name of Faisal Malik back in May 2009 – looks he had this in mind for long.

Verify NADRA CNIC Through SMS

In the race of technology, NADRA hits another achievement while it launches a very useful service for verifying CNIC details. Now you don’t need to visit NADRA offices to get someone’s details verified or to get some details regarding this.

It has become very easy now to verify anyone if you are going to have dealing or are hiring him/her.

Simply verify their CNIC by sending an SMS to 7000.

Write CNIC Number without dashes and send it to 7000. In response you will get name and father’s name of that particular CNIC number holder (in urdu fonts).

Example: write 3740149922830 and send to 7000

Charges: Rs. 10 plus tax per Message (Around Rs. 12 including taxes)

At the moment this service is available for Mobilink, Telenor and Warid customers while Ufone and Zong are in process to get listed.

One may think that this is a privacy loop hole, however, as it does not provide any contact details of the CNIC holder and only reveals the name and father’s name – so it is acceptable and helpful in many means.

Talking about benefits, this service will really help the public in there general as well as special matters as you can easily verify someone’s details to check the scam or fake ones, these credentials can really help out in business deals as well as personal contracts where you need to be sure about the real person.

This service will also be helpful to law-enforcement agencies as they may be able to get more details as compared to public because there is another special number for them. They can get CNIC information by sending the number at 7001.

Subscribers will get details through cellular companies which would collect data in real time communication from NADRA National Data Warehouse. This is thought be a secure data transfer as service numbers are labeled as “Special Numbers”.

NADRA is also supporting law-enforcement agencies and govt. to implement and cope up with prevailing law and order situation. Find Location of Email Sender Using Gmail/Yahoo/Hotmail

It often happens that we are interested in knowing the approximate location (city name at least) of the person who have sent you an email on your Gmail, Yahoo or Hotmail account.
Well, many may not know, but yes you can have the city name of the sender using certain information that comes with your email. When you receive an email, you receive more than just the message.
The email comes with headers (that are normally not displayed in the message) that carry important information that can tell where the email was sent from and possibly who sent it. For that, you would need to find the IP address of the sender. Okay let’s start learning on how you can find the IP address of the sender.
Finding IP address With Gmail

Log into your Gmail account with your username and password.
Now open any email from your inbox (or the one you want to track the location)
On the left side of the To panel, click on down arrow button, that will open a drop down menu.
Click on “Show Original”
A New window will open, which will have plenty of raw material. Don’t get confused here…! try to find out following line.
Look for “Received: from” Received: from [69.138.30.1] by web4587.mail.***.yahoo.com
[69.138.30.1] can be different for every mail, as this is the IP address of the sender.
You may find more than one Received: from patterns, in that case select the last one.
Now that you have an IP address, you can locate this IP address by puting it in who.is
open www.who.is and enter this ip address without brackets
the query will give you the city name of the sender…!

Finding IP address with Yahoo

Log into your Yahoo! mail with your username and password.
Click on Inbox or whichever folder you have stored your mail.
Open the mail that you want to track back.
If you do not see the headers above the mail message, your headers are not displayed. To display the headers
Click on Options on the top-right corner
In the Mail Options page, click on General Preferences
Scroll down to Messages where you have the Headers option
Make sure that Show all headers on incoming messages is selected
Click on the Save button
Go back to the mails and open that mail
You should see similar headers like above
Look for Received: from followed by the IP address between square brackets [ ]. Here, it is 202.65.138.109.
That is be the IP address of the sender.
If there are many instances of Received: from with the IP address, select the IP address in the last pattern. If there are no instances of Received: from with the IP address, select the first IP address in X-Originating-IP.
Track the IP address of the sender.

Finding IP address in Hotmail

Log into your Hotmail account with your username and password.
Click on the Mail tab on the top.
Open the mail.
If you do not see the headers above the mail message, your headers are not displayed. To display the headers,
Click on Options on the top-right corner
In the Mail Options page, click on Mail Display Settings
In Message Headers, make sure Advanced option is checked
Click on Ok button
Go back to the mails and open that mail
You should see the email headers now.
If you find a header with X-Originating-IP: followed by an IP address, that is the sender’s IP address Hotmail headers. In this case the IP address of the sender is [68.34.60.59].
Look for Received: from followed by IP address within square brackets[
In this case, the IP address of the sender is [69.140.7.58].
Or else if you have headers like this
Look for Received: from followed by IP address within square brackets[].
In this case, the IP address of the sender is [61.83.145.129] (Spam mail).
If you have multiple Received: from headers, eliminate the ones that have proxy.anyknownserver.com.11. Track the IP address of the sender.

Get Free SMS alerts for Incoming Emails – All Networks Supported

There is a website that can actually send you SMS notification for each incoming email.

Site is pushinbox.com- with this website, you can configure your mobile number to get email notifications on your cell phone – and yes, this service works with all cellular operators in Pakistan (self tested).

Here is the mechanism: You will be given a WAP based email client that just works like your Gmail, MSN, Yahoo or any other email service. You can use this email address to get emails – which will be also sent as SMS message over your cell phone. Yes, all cellular networks in Pakistan are supported (self tested).

As mentioned above, as soon as you will receive emails in pushinbox.com, an SMS alert will be sent over you phone.

Now, if you don’t want to give up your Gmail, MSN, Yahoo or your corporate email id, then do this – forward your emails to your pushinbox.com, and that’s it. You will be notified about emails that arrive in your Gmail, MSN or Yahoo.

But before that, sign up at pushinbox.com along with your cell number to start going. Also note that you can use your pushinbox.com as your primary mobile email service, it offers attachments and many other cool features.

Note: It won’t display your email, instead it will notify you that an email has been sent from someone@gmail.com, and a link to your email – that can be accessed using GPRS. This way, you can check email on phone – or in case its not urgent, check your inbox when you are online from PC.

5 ways to speed up your PC

By following a few simple guidelines, you can maintain your computer and keep it running smoothly. This article discusses how to use the tools available in Windows XP Service Pack 3 (SP3) and Windows Vista to more efficiently maintain your computer and safeguard your privacy when you're online.

1. Free up disk space

By freeing disk space, you can improve the performance of your computer. The Disk Cleanup tool helps you free up space on your hard disk. The utility identifies files that you can safely delete, and then enables you to choose whether you want to delete some or all of the identified files.

Use Disk Cleanup to:

· Remove temporary Internet files.
· Remove downloaded program files (such as Microsoft ActiveX controls and Java applets).
· Empty the Recycle Bin.
· Remove Windows temporary files.
· Remove optional Windows components that you don't use.
· Remove installed programs that you no longer use.

Tip: Typically, temporary Internet files take the most amount of space because the browser caches each page you visit for faster access later.

To use Disk Cleanup

1. Click Start, point to All Programs, point to Accessories, point to System Tools, and then click Disk. Cleanup. If several drives are available, you might be prompted to specify which drive you want to clean.
2. In the Disk Cleanup for dialog box, scroll through the content of the Files to delete list..
3. Clear the check boxes for files that you don't want to delete, and then click OK.
4. When prompted to confirm that you want to delete the specified files, click Yes.

After a few minutes, the process completes and the Disk Cleanup dialog box closes, leaving your computer cleaner and performing better.

2. Speed up access to data

Disk fragmentation slows the overall performance of your system. When files are fragmented, the computer must search the hard disk when the file is opened to piece it back together. The response time can be significantly longer.

Disk Defragmenter is a Windows utility that consolidates fragmented files and folders on your computer's hard disk so that each occupies a single space on the disk. With your files stored neatly end-to-end, without fragmentation, reading and writing to the disk speeds up.

When to run Disk Defragmenter

In addition to running Disk Defragmenter at regular intervals—monthly is optimal—there are other times you should run it too, such as when:

· You add a large number of files.
· Your free disk space totals 15 percent or less.
· You install new programs or a new version of Windows.

To use Disk Defragmenter:

1. Click Start, point to All Programs, point to Accessories, point to System Tools, and then click Disk Defragmenter.
2. In the Disk Defragmenter dialog box, click the drives that you want to defragment, and then click the Analyze button. After the disk is analyzed, a dialog box appears, letting you know whether you should defragment the analyzed drives.

Tip: You should analyze a volume before defragmenting it to get an estimate of how long the defragmentation process will take.

3. To defragment the selected drive or drives, click the Defragment button. Note: In Windows Vista, there is no graphical user interface to demonstrate the progress—but your hard drive is still being defragmented.

After the defragmentation is complete, Disk Defragmenter displays the results.

4. To display detailed information about the defragmented disk or partition, click View Report.
5. To close the View Report dialog box, click Close.
6. To close the Disk Defragmenter utility, click the Close button on the title bar of the window.
3. Detect and repair disk errors

In addition to running Disk Cleanup and Disk Defragmenter to optimize the performance of your computer, you can check the integrity of the files stored on your hard disk by running the Error Checking utility.

As you use your hard drive, it can develop bad sectors. Bad sectors slow down hard disk performance and sometimes make data writing (such as file saving) difficult, or even impossible. The Error Checking utility scans the hard drive for bad sectors, and scans for file system errors to see whether certain files or folders are misplaced.

If you use your computer daily, you should run this utility once a week to help prevent data loss.

To run the Error Checking utility:

1. Close all open files.
2. Click Start, and then click My Computer.
3. In the My Computer window, right-click the hard disk you want to search for bad sectors, and then click Properties.
4. In the Properties dialog box, click the Tools tab.
5. Click the Check Now button.
6. In the Check Disk dialog box, select the Scan for and attempt recovery of bad sectors check box, and then click Start.
7. If bad sectors are found, choose to fix them.

Tip: Only select the "Automatically fix file system errors" check box if you think that your disk contains bad sectors.

4. Protect your computer against spyware

In this period of competition, every day, the recruitment manager of a company faces a stack of job applications for each advertised post. Usually he will make 3 piles out of the heap of CVs: “yes”, “no”, and “maybe” – he’ll go to the latter pile if the former one fails to deliver an applicant suitable for the job. So your first mission is to make sure that your job application secures a position on the top of the “yes” interview-pile. You can get the necessary and astounding results by composing a well written CV. This is your introduction and chief communication with the employer. It is your CV which decides whether you are going to be deemed fit for the job or not.

Below are a few Do’s and Don’ts which should be rigorously kept under consideration while composing a professional CV.

Technical Skills:
The most effective way to demonstrate technical skills is to provide a breakdown of the projects you’ve worked on. Remember that a project should comprise of the following pieces of information:

Sell yourself properly:
Remember that a CV is a very important selling tool. It is a way of persuading a consumer to buy a product, means a company to decide that your skills are worth paying for. The “kitchen sink” approach can mean that your relevant skills are lost in your CV and are not sold enough.

CV Don’ts:

Don’t paste your photograph:
Do not put your photograph on your CV. You want the employer to consider you on the basis of your skill-set in spite of your physical appearance, as a start.
Don’t use flowery fonts and writing style:
Refrain from using flowery language, fancy fonts and bright colored paper. Your CV should look mature and professional. Let the content do the talking. Do not use the word “I” repeatedly.

Don’t be humorous:
Create a professional email address, preferably with your own name e.g. “gulzar.ali87@gmail.com”. Don’t use a humorous or inappropriate email address such as “lover_boy@hotmail.com”. This may make a recruiter smile but won’t fetch you an interview.

Don’t use slangs & abbreviations:
It is advised not to use slangs or abbreviations in your CV. This creates a careless impact on the recruiter. Remember that your CV may be read by the HR manager who will be in need of seriously dedicated employees in his team. So, to make a good first impression through your CV, compose it very carefully.

Don’t quote irrelevant facts:
Don’t include irrelevant facts in your CV which have no connection with your career achievements. A potential employer will not be interested in how many children and grandchildren you have. He, on the other hand, is looking for a candidate who is trained, qualified and skilled in his area of expertise.

Don’t lie:
Do explain the time gaps in your CV when inquired. If you have spent 2 months looking for a new job, this is fine, inform the employer about it. If you have taken a career break or gone traveling – say so! Do not try to hide or fabricate it with lies. The HR people are professionals and are experts in getting the truth out of you.

Don’t be Repetitive:
Avoid repetition while writing your CV even if it is in the form of bullets, as it will use up the important space which can encompass your other achievements. Also when written once, repeating the same text will not give a good impression on your CV.

Don’t post/fax CV:
Post or fax CV’s only when absolutely necessary or if you are asked to do this. Email is now the accepted standard everywhere. So you better get attuned to the current standards of the professional world.

Do not exaggerate your experience:
Exaggerating your experience will cause you problems later on. Interviews are designed to weed out fibbers. So be practical and careful while writing a CV.

References:
Include references when it is required by the company. You should simply state that: “References are available on request”.
