Wikinut Earnings - How to Write for Money - My First Month

Making money at Wikinut is relatively easy. In this article I report back on my first month earnings at Wikinut. Wikinut is an article submission site that shares 50 percent of the total revenue earned with the writer. Wikinut also has a referral program where you can earn 5% of the royalties on any new referral you make. Today I discuss the highs and lows of my first month at Wikinut and in particular what strategies worked for me.

Publishing Articles at Wikinut
The first point to note is that I have to date only published 3 articles at Wikinut. Now we all know that you can't earn if you don't publish however I decided that my approach would be to write somewhere between 1 and 5 articles and see what kind of success I had before I wrote more.

I joined at the end of July but did not publish my first article until August 3. I subsequently published two other articles. Three articles in total. Not a promising start to my freelance writing career at Wikinut but enough to get a feel for whether Wikinut was the type of site I wished to publish on.

All of the articles I submitted were rewrites of articles I have published elsewhere either on my blog or on other content sharing sites such as HubPages and Triond. They are unique however and although contain much the same information I have carefully reworded paragraphs and changed the keywords. So keep in mind that you can reuse other articles at Wikinut but I advise against posting exact duplicates of articles published elsewhere.

Wikinut Page Views and Earnings for August 2010
As Wikinut is a UK website earnings are in GBP. You can elect to be paid the equivalent through Paypal in US Dollars or several other currencies .

As you can see from the statistics above the number of page views for the month at Wikinut was 340. Some of the traffic came from within Wikinut. I gained 11 followers alone. There is no easy way within Wikinut to track traffic sources so I used Google Analytics to get a picture of external traffic sources and search terms used to find my pages.

Instead of publishing the articles all at once I chose to publish two early in the month and one mid month so I could observe the effect on earnings of publishing a new article. Daily page views varied greatly but were highest the couple of days following publication.

Most days at Wikinut I earned about 1 pence per day to end the month with 0.032 GBP or about US $0.50. While these figures may appear low to some my earnings are remember from just 3 articles. And what I earned at Wikinut is better than many article submission sites I have tried. Keep in mind that had I published these articles on HubPages for instance I very likely would have received nothing in earnings unless I was lucky enough to get an Adsense click through. With Triond that pay between $1-3 per 1000 page views I would have likely earned about 1 penny a day.

Income from Referrals to Wikinut
I had one referral to Wikinut generated from one of my articles that I published elsewhere at the end of August. My new referral did not make any earnings though so I derived no income for August. However I now will earn 5 percent of that new members earnings on any articles published on top of the earnings from my own articles.

Ability to Make Residual Income from my Wikinut Articles
The three articles I wrote were keyword optimized and were designed to keep earning for some time to come. One of the best things about writing for article submission sites is that you can earn residual income from your articles long after you publish them. How much that residual income is depends on four main factors: the level of topic interest, choosing paying keywords, SEO optimization of paying keywords and degree of article promotion.

As you can see each article I have written has achieved a place within the first 40 results in Google. Only one article has made it to the first page of Google.

I need to promote these articles well or risk them being buried and not earning any residual income in the future. My strategy is to continue to socially bookmark these articles to create do follow backlinks at sites such as Propeller.com, Snipsly, Xomba and RedGage along with Facebook, Twitter, Digg and Delicious. If my articles gain enough quality do follow backlinks chances are they will be promoted higher in Google search engine results.

Summary Analysis of Wikinut Earnings Results
For a little effort and some time I was able to publish 3 articles on Wikinut. Each got a little traffic and together they resulted in earnings of $0.50 for the month. On the basis of my earnings results to date I would need to publish about 20 articles to make 5.00 GBP or $10 US the minimum Wikinut payout per month. With 23 articles published that would result in about $120 over $12 months or about $2 per article.

With greater promotion the articles are likely to rise higher in Google searches and my page view earnings would increase. If I choose topics that are being highly searched for I am even more likely to get elevated traffic levels. And by writing a cluster of articles on the same subject I am likely to get more page views per visitor.

However my earnings at Wikinut are likely to be a lot higher overall when I factor in my blog and other article submission sites. I have my articles linking directly to this blog and design my articles in such a way that I will not only earn money for submissions to Wikinut but I will get traffic and referrals to my blog.

In addition by rewriting my articles, using different keywords and publishing them on Triond for example I am doubling their earning potential. The true earning potential of each article is probably around $20 to $40 over two years and more depending on the number of ad revenue sharing sites I submit to. In my book writing articles at Wikinut is definitely worth the investment of time and effort.

The best way to get listed on page one of Google is to get quality backlinks that increase the Google page ranking of your blog or web content. In this article I share with you the top 10 strategies I have found useful in improving the PR ranking (Google PR) of my blogs and other web content.

I actively use each of these SEO strategies and have achieved good results particularly I am seeing my articles being promoted higher in Google search engine results. 10 Ways to Improve Google PageRank

Build Quality Backlinks
Build backlinks to your blog and article pages. Get backlinks from blog directories, commenting on blogs, social bookmarking sites to name a few sources. Try to get backlinks from quality websites with a high Google PageRank in preference to a whole lot from sites with a PR 0 or PR 1. The majority of your links need to be from sources with a Google PR of 3 and above.

To find out the PR of any website or webpage you can use a PR Checker tool. Just enter the URL into a PR checker tool and it will tell you the Google PageRank and the Alexa ranking. To find a free PR Checker tool just use the search phrase PR Checker tool in your browser.
Build Backlinks From Multiple Sources
It is not enough to just get a couple of links you need to build multiple backlinks to your blog to get a good PR. Avoid building all your backlinks from the same source. The problem with getting all your links from the same external source is that if Google were to devalue the website's links for some reason your blog content credibility would be compromised.

Use a link popularity tool to check where the current backlinks to your blog or web content are originating from. Enter the phrase link popularity tool in your browser to find link popularity checkers or use Search Bliss Link Popularity Tool
Concentrate on Do Follow Backlinks
Links from other sites to your blog or web content can be "no follow" or "do follow". Do follow backlinks add to the authority of your blog with search engines while no follow links do not affect your blog's PR even though they bring in traffic. To build Page Rank you need to concentrate on building do follow backlinks. This same rule applies to writers who submit articles to article submission sites.
Get Backlinks from Top No Follow Websites
I have found that getting links from top social bookmarking sites and answer sites like Yahoo Answers and Delicious is worthwhile even though the links are not do follow. With such high PR these sites are worth linking to and can help your PR.
Build External Links to Your Blog Naturally
Aim to build your backlinks naturally rather than creating them all on one day. The drip feed method of building links over time is preferable. There are some useful free social bookmarking tools out there that can help automate backlinking. You can try IMAutomator which has both a free and paid membership. IMAutomator can be set to add a link a day or to add them over a number of days. The downside of this drip feed strategy is though that your backlinks will take awhile to be created and picked up by search engines.
Use Your Keywords As Anchor Text When Creating Backlinks
When building external links to your blog be sure to include the keywords of your blog post or article as anchor text where possible. Mix up the keywords in your anchor text so you don't always use the same exact phrase to avoid it being identified as spam.

Ensure Your Keyword or Keyword Phrase Appears in Your Blog Title
Your title not only helps readers understand what your article is about but search engines too. The title you give your blog post is a very important factor in determining whether your article will disappear into oblivion or get promoted to page one on Google. Make sure that your title includes your keyword, keywords or keyword phrase.

Spend time crafting a keyword rich article title. If you are not sure about which keywords to use make use of the Google Keyword Tool to help you choose a keyword rich title.
Use Keywords Throughout Your Blog Posts
Having the right keywords in the right ratio is a large factor in making it to the first page for your chosen keywords. Scatter keywords throughout your blog post. Keyword density needs to be about 3%. Don't overstuff articles with keywords as this could have a negative effect. Make use of synonyms that are similar to your keywords.
Use Keywords in the First 50-100 Words of Blog Post or Article
Search engines like Google give emphasis to text that occurs at the beginning of an article. That's why I like to start all my articles with the keyword phrase in the first sentence. The closer to the beginning of your post your keywords appear the better but don't make it look or sound unnatural as search engines are pretty smart.
Anchor Text Your Keywords for Internal Links
Internal linking is a factor when determining Google PR. Make sure your posts are linked internally. Use a related articles hack if you are using Blogger to help you achieve this. Wordpress bloggers can find related articles plugins to show related articles on their blogs. If you are an article writer include links to your other related articles each time you publish an article to build internal links.

A good way to link internally is to use the keywords of the post within the anchor text of the link. Anchor text linking is preferable to just using the URL as the link.

As the Google PageRank of your blog is only reviewed every 3 months or so don't expect your Google page ranking to improve overnight. However, if you consistently apply these 10 basic strategies to your blog posts and your backlinking activity you are likely to begin to see your posts rising in search engine results. The more quality backlinks you can build the better your chances of a Google PR above PR 0 or PR 1.

5 Key Steps to Set Up a Blog Earning Adsense

Earning through Adsense clicks is a good way to make money blogging. However blogging is not a fast way to make money on the internet. when you set up a blog you are starting from scratch with a Google Page Rank of zero.

Before earning money from blogging time must be spent building a blog and establishing its credibility. Earnings from Adsense will follow.

Blogs need traffic and followers. Getting visitors to your blog does not happen overnight. It takes quality content, consistent posting, keyword rich articles, SEO optimization and blog promotion through social media to attract visitors. Once your blog has achieved around 30 or 40 visitors a day sometimes less you can expect to be earning Adsense from your blog.

There are 5 key steps to set up a blog to earn money from Adsense clicks. In a nutshell these steps are:

Step 1 - Choose a Blogging Platform

Paid Blogging Hosting
Wordpress is the leading blogging platform for serious bloggers. Millions of blogs have been created using Wordpress worldwide. While the software is free you will need to pay to host your Wordpress blog.

Just Host or Hostgator offer affordable web hosting at $3.95 a month plus they throw in a free domain name. Wordpress can be quickly installed at a touch of a button using an autoscript installer. With Wordpress you have complete control over where you place Adsense units on your blog including hotspots to maximize your Adsense earnings.

Free Sites to Build a Blog
Of the free sites Blogger.com is my preferred choice. Blogger is user-friendly and because it is owned by Google it is easy to quickly get your blog indexed by the Google search engine.

Blogger allows you to freely add Adsense to your blog along with other advertising like Chitika and Kontera and it does not take a cut. Blogger also lets you use a custom domain name for your blog but you will need to pay for this. You can purchase a domain name at sites such as Go Daddy

If you want to build a website and a blog together you could consider Yola or Weebly. Both sites are pretty similar but Yola is the better choice over Weeby because it doesn't take a 50% share of your Adsense revenue.

I would suggest avoiding the free Wordpress site Wordpress.com because none of the advertising revenue on your blog would be yours.

Other options are Facebook, MySpace, Live Journal, Typepad but in my view none are as good as blogger.

Free Blogging Platforms vs Wordpress - Which is Better?
Historically the main advantage of having a hosted blog like Wordpress over a free site has been flexibility and add ons called plugins for applications like ecommerce and SEO. Blogger is gradually closing the gap by adding more and more features that make it difficult to tell whether a blog has been created with Wordpress or Blogger at first glance.

Which platform you choose will largely be determined by your needs. If you are not thinking beyond a basic blog then they may be no point paying for a Wordpress blog that you could have far more easily created with Blogger.

On the other hand Wordpress is the ultimate blogging solution with many advanced blogging features and plugins that will give you all the tools you would ever need. If you think you are going to need advanced blogging features definitely consider taking the paid hosting option.

My suggestion for beginners is to get started with Blogger first because it is easy to use. Wordpress has a far greater learning curve plus it costs money to host your blog and you may not make any Adsense revenue initially.

If you can afford it get a custom domain name in preference to using a blogspot.com subdomain though because if you decide to later shift to another blogging platform your links will remain intact.

Step 2 - Set Up a Blog
You will need to decide on your blog topic. Niche blogs can perform very well. Do some research to make sure there is enough scope to earn from your blog.

Try the Google Keyword Tool to find out what the keywords on your topic are paying the most for Adsense clicks. Use the Keyword tool to help you choose a blog title that includes one or more keywords. Buy a custom domain name for your blog title if you can afford it.

Use a good custom template for your blog to create trust with your readers. Try Top Free Blogger Templates, Better Free Blogger Templates or Free Blogger Templates Blogspot for a good selection of free Blogger templates. You can also buy a custom Blogger template starting at $5 from Theme Forest.

It is worth spending a bit of time to configure you blog properly including optimizing it for SEO. Try my blogs Blog Know How and Blogspot Blogger Guide for beginner and advanced help on setting up a blog and using the Blogger platform for blogging.

Step 3 - Post Quality Content to Your Blog
Write some quality content for your blog. Make sure your content is as original as possible. Please don't copy other people's work. Apart from it being morally and ethically wrong Google will penalize you for duplicate content.

Publish at least 10 posts of 250 words each. This will give Google enough of an idea of what your blog is about to place targeted ads on it. Make some articles longer as the longer the article the better its chances of being indexed by search engines.

To earn Adsense revenue your articles are going to have to be keyword rich and have relevant titles. This is especially true if many others have written articles on your chosen topic. Try to find an original title that has one or more keywords in it. Including what are known as longtail keywords (keyword phrases) in your articles is likely to mean you will earn more revenue.

Step 4 Put Adsense On Your Blog
Sign up for Google Adsense. Place Adsense ad units on your blog. Be sure to place your advertising above the fold - that is the area your visitors see when they arrive at your blog. Keep in mind when placing Google Adsense advertising on your blog that the larger Adsense units are the best performing.

I suggest only placing 1 or 2 units initially because blogs with heavy ad content are less appealing to readers. Remember you are trying to establish credibility with your readers. Don't forget to publish a privacy policy page as per Adsense terms and conditions.

Step 5 - Promote Your Blog
It is a good idea to comment on other blogs relevant to yours with good Google Page Ranks of 3 and above while you get established. Having inbound links to your blog will not only make it easier for Google to find your site it will also start to establish the credibility of your blog.

Comment on several forums in your niche including a link to a relevant blog post in your comment or your homepage. You can easily find forums on your topic by doing a Google search.

Join social media sites like Twitter, Facebook, Digg, Stumble Upon and Delicious and use them to promote your blog.

Try bookmarking sites like RedGage, Snipsly and Xomba where you can create backlinks to your blog.

Blog Catalog and TopofBlogs are 2 blog directories worth being listed in as they backlink to your blog (note many do not).

Other ways to build credibility with readers is to claim your blog at Technorati. Answering questions on sites like Yahoo answers will help generate traffic to your blog.

Summary
Setting up a blog to earn Adsense is a very common internet marketing approach. You can use a free blog site like Blogger and you don't need to spend a cent to set up a blog. If your budget can run to it consider buying a custom domain name. You can use your own domain name with Blogger and most other free sites. Or if you prefer advanced blogging features you could opt for paid hosting of a Wordpress blog.

By creating quality content that is keyword rich you will be able to soon gain enough organic traffic from Google and other search engines to be earning Adsense revenue. Use social media to build backlinks and credibility and you are on your way to setting up a blog that will be earn Adsense revenue consistently.

Snipsly is a way to earn Adsense revenue while bookmarking your blog posts. I use it to promote each of my posts and build quality backlinks that will add to the credibility of my blog.

The good thing about Snipsly is that it pays you to bookmark your content which is something you need to do anyway to build a successful blog.

At 80/20 in favor of the writer the Adsense sharing at Snipsly is generous in my view. Most content sharing sites offer 50/50 so it is way above what is offered elsewhere. To balance this though there is no referral program. Nor can you include eBay or Amazon modules the way you can on HubPages and Squidoo.

Snipsly Has a Wordpress Interface
Snipsly is built on the Wordpress blogging platform so the interface will be largely intuitive for bloggers. Other writers might experience it as clunky and certainly it is no match for ease of RedGage or Xomba.

I like how quickly I can add content to Snipsly. Three sentences and I'm done. For a busy writer and blogger like me time is money so I enjoy being able to get the job done quickly and know I am earning potential Adsense revenue at the same time.

One great feature of Snipsly is the inclusion of the SEO all in one pack Wordpress plugin. SEO optimization of articles is important and I like the facility at Snipsly to add keywords and a description of my content to have the best chance of getting targeted traffic.

The community at Snipsly is there but it is hard to find and interact with largely because of the Wordpress interface. I personally haven't bothered with networking at Snipsly but it may be to my detriment as usually sites like this rely on members to promote content.

Tips for Writing at Snipsly

Check out the suggested topics
When bookmarking write a short unique summary rather than copying the first few sentences from your blog
Use a different name for your bookmark or article at Snipsly than your blog content to avoid competing with yourself in search engine results.

My Writing for Money Journey July 2010

About the beginning of July 2010 I made the decision to begin writing articles for ad sharing websites to promote my blogs and to develop new income streams. This is an account of my personal journey toward my goal of becoming a self-employed freelance writer and making my living from the internet.

My Strategy to Build Multiple Income Streams
My strategy to build multiple income streams meant that I needed to concentrate on signing up for some content sharing sites.

I choose Xomba to start with because it sounds like a good way to build backlinks. To experiment I started backlinking to a lot of my older articles on my Easy To Scrapbook blog as I have given very little attention to promoting any of them or indeed that blog. My second strategy was to start writing for HubPages. HubPages shares ad revenue from Google Adsense and affiliate sales from Amazon and eBay earnings with writers. I chose HubPages because of the level of community support there and the ability to earn revenue by recommending articles by other writers.
The third site I concentrated on was RedGage. RedGage allows you to post links and articles that direct readers to websites and blogs. It is a good vehicle for me to start generating traffic to this blog. Plus links created at RedGage are "do follow" so it helps to raise the Google PR of I Make Money Blogger and other blogs and articles I choose to promote. Read about My RedGage Make Money Challenge
One other content sharing website that I have also joined is Triond. Triond is good for article writers because it pays by page view. At the present time it is approximately $3.75 per 1000 page views. In addition it has a 50/50 ad sharing revenue structure which I am hoping to take advantage of.

Set out below is the tracking I have undertaken of my article submissions to various sites RedGage, Triond, HubPages and Xomba and a summary of how much revenue I am generating at each website for my efforts throughout July 2010.

If you have some writing skills and some know how about a range of subjects you have two of the main ingredients necessary to make money online writing articles. Some people will tell you that you need to be a writer to be successful writing online but the truth is that there are many people who are making a decent living from the internet without ever having had a writing lesson in their lives.

There are many ways to make money online writing articles. I began nearly 18 months ago by creating a free blog at Blogger and then mushroomed into writing more blogs. Other writers begin with revenue sharing websites like HubPages that pay writers a share of the Google Adsense revenue. Still others get paid a set amount for each article. All of these methods of generating income online are worthwhile and can be combined to form multiple income streams.

I have discovered that it is not difficult to make money online writing articles. Working from home suits my lifestyle. No travel, no workplace conflict and complete autonomy. I enjoy the convenience of working my own hours and at my own pace. I have little to waste my time like endless meetings and interruptions which means I have more time and energy to devote to producing articles. Making money online writing articles ticks all of the boxes for me.

When I started I had the vague idea that I could generate some income online but I had no real idea how to do that. Through trial and error I learned the basics of making money online writing articles. Other bloggers have kindly shared their secrets of success with me. In a sense I am gifting back to others the help I have received by creating the I Make Money Blogger blog.

The activities that support my online writing are still the same as when I started blogging. I spend a lot of time doing research for my article and its associated keywords. I try to learn as much as I can about the various ways to make money on the internet as I can. The internet is such a dynamic place that it is crucial that I stay alert to new opportunities to make money online writing articles.

I make it a rule to only pursue legitimate methods of earning income on the internet so if you are looking for get rich quick schemes you won't find information about them on this site. There are plenty of honest ways to make money on the internet now and more potential emerging everyday that I can't see the point in scraping other people's content or other backdoor methods like spamming.

I won't lie to you about the effort required to make money online writing articles. Let me dispel that myth right away - writing is not an easy option. Freelance writers need self discipline. They need the ability to stay on task without any prompting. They need to be motivated to get up in the morning and produce despite whatever else is going on in their personal lives.

I write everyday even when I don't feel like it. I write even if I am not making as much money as I thought I would from the last half a dozen articles. I write and I research and I produce quality content no matter what.

I currently make money on my blogs from Adsense and Chitika revenue together with affiliate referrals such as EBay and Amazon. This revenue is growing all the time and has happened largely without me actively promoting my blogs.

Now that I have moved from dabbling to trying to make some serious income part-time I have had to crank up my online activities to generate multiple income streams.

My first choice in considering new ways to make money online was to join ad revenue sharing websites such as HubPages, Triond and Xomba. Each of these sites is a way to make money online writing but requires consistent posting and participation in the community as well.

More recently I have also joined RedGage, Squidoo and Wikinut. Although I have been a member of each of these sites for nearly a month now my only revenue is $0.21 from RedGage. However I am hopeful that once I get established on these sites and build a community I will start attracting the traffic necessary to make money from article writing.

Another website that I have just joined this week to make a little extra money is Microworkers. Microworkers pays you for performing easy online tasks some of which involve writing. In my first week I made $2.46 from 5 micro jobs and 1 referral. Not bad considering I spent less than 1 hour to complete the tasks.

I have made quite a few mistakes in setting up my passive income streams. Although my earnings are enough to meet the Google Adsense threshold for a monthly $100 check I have had to learn experientially about what works best. I think my main downfall is in not actively promoting my blogs however I am currently beginning to address this by using social media to gain some valuable backlinks.

Generating an income from writing articles online requires me to keep publishing and marketing my articles on an ongoing basis. Search engines reward productivity. The internet is fast becoming more and more saturated with articles of similar content and competition for keyword dominance is growing. However, in real terms this just means I need to take a creative approach, research my articles well and stay informed so that I can easily identify any gaps. There are still plenty of keywords that have not been fully exploited yet.

That little pot of gold at the end of the rainbow with your name on it is there waiting for you once you figure out how to find it.

Best of all my articles will keep earning money for years to come. The opportunities for earning residual income writing on the internet are high compared to conventional outlets for your writing. I concentrate largely on writing what are known as evergreen articles (articles that don't date quickly) about subjects that people are searching for information on. This gives me a mechanism to be able to create a continuing source of income that has the potential for growth too.

If you are considering writing articles online then don't limit yourself with one or two sources of income. I believe the secret is to diversify. Build yourself multiple income streams that way if an earner stops generating revenue you are not so vulnerable to the decline.

If you would like to sign up to some ad revenue websites where you can submit your written articles I would suggest you try Triond and HubPages first. Triond because it pays for page views and that will give you a little encouragement to see your articles earning a few pennies. And HubPages for the excellent community and as a great training ground in learning to write keyword rich article against pretty stiff competition.

How to Add a Xomba Banner to Blog or Website

If you are a member of Xomba you will understand the importance of promoting your Xomba articles to get more traffic and making money on Xomba at the same time. One way to promote your Xomba articles is to add a Xomba banner to your website or blog.

By adding a Xomba banner to your website or blog you will encourage visitors to visit Xomba and sign up using your referral code. Remember that for every new user you refer you will earn 10% of their ad revenue for as long as they are a member of Xomba.

I found the instructions about adding a Xomba banner to invite friends and visitors to join Xomba was not clear and difficult for a newcomer to implement so I decided to write my own post about it.

Make Money Writing on Squidoo

Like HubPages and Triond, Squidoo offers a variety of ways to make money writing. Squidoo shares the revenue with its writers (known as lensmasters) and pays a percentage of commissions from sales earned from Amazon, eBay and CafePress.

To make money writing on Squidoo it is best to concentrate on writing articles that promote a product. You do this by adding products links to your lens articles from Amazon, eBay and other affiliate programs. If a reader buys a mp3 player from a link in your article for instance then you earn 50% of the commission earned.

Earning through referrals is another way to make money on Squidoo. For every new referral you generate you receive a $5 bonus once the person has made their first $15.

Yet another way is the income earned by Squidoo placing Google and Infolink ads on your lenses. The earnings generated are put into a community pool and distributed by Squidoo according to a tiered ranking system. The PayRank scale at Squidoo is based on the average LensRank and traffic of each lens along with the number and quality of lenses in the lensmaster's account.

The PayRank system means that virtually no Adsense income is earned by new article writers. Squidoo lensmasters have to write quite a few lenses and have some successes with them before they any form of compensation is received from any ads served. I personally don't like the idea of missing out on Adsense earnings and I consider it a major downfall in the Squidoo system.

However, on the other side of the coin payranking the lenses does mean that the quality of the content remains high at Squidoo as less committed and talented lensmasters drop off. Plus if your lenses are very high quality and you are prolific enough you will enjoy very high earnings from the community pool. Perseverance, hard work and talent are rewarded at Squidoo. You can make money writing at Squidoo so don't give up.

Tier One: Lenses with an average LensRank of #1 to #2,000 get 25% of the ad pool.
Tier Two: Lenses with an average LensRank of #2,001 to #10,000 get 17% of the ad pool.
Tier Three: Lenses with an average LensRank of #10,001 to #85,000 get 8% of the ad pool
Last Tier (the Zero Tier): Lenses with an average LensRank more than #85,000 get 0% of the ad pool

A portion of the proceeds from the revenue generated by displaying ads plus 5% of affiliate sales goes to charity straight away on Squidoo. You can also choose to donate some or all of your Squidoo income to charity.

Squidoo pays out earnings via Paypal. The default threshold is $10 but this can be customized according to individual preferences. I suggest you make the threshold only a dollar or two while you are just starting off. Make sure you keep a watch on your account though because after a year of inactivity Squidoo closes your account and distributes the earnings to charity and the community pool.

Squidoo has a good Google PR4 ranking so backlinks are valuable. If you have a blog or website make sure you promote it with Squidoo. I suggest writing a lens about your blog and some of its most important posts. To get your articles on the first page of Google search engine results research keywords using the Google keyword tool.

Squidoo is absolutely free to use and offers a good opportunity to write articles for money. What I enjoy about Squidoo is the easy article interface that makes writing a cinch. Microworkers - A Good Way to Make Money Online?

I recently discovered Microworkers, a website that pays you to perform online tasks called micro jobs. Microworkers offers a way to make money working from home. There are no set hours and you can work as much or as little as you like.

Typically micro jobs at Microworkers are tasks such as commenting on a blog, rating a YouTube video or joining a Facebook group. Most micro jobs at Microworkers take less than 5 minutes to complete. Payment for each micro job can be as high as $1.61 per job. In addition you will earn $1.00 for every Microworkers referral you make.

Is Microworkers Legimate?
Before I joined Microworkers I read lots of forums and did some of my own research. All the evidence in the forums shows that members of Microworkers get paid for the jobs they complete. I wanted to make sure it was not a scam as I only involve myself in money making schemes that are legitimate. I am satisfied from this research that Microworkers is genuine and that they offer a real opportunity to make money online micro jobbing.

Obviously the more higher paying jobs you take on the more money you will earn.

Conclusion
For me the jury is still out on whether Microworkers is a good way for me to make money online. Clearly some money can be made by anyone prepared to consistently carry out the chosen tasks.

Microworkers probably best suits someone looking to make a bit of extra money online. And someone who is quite happy doing these tasks on a part-time basis. Alone, Microworkers is probably not a viable way of earning a living on the internet.

I am still uncertain in my own case how much money I can make online with Microworkers. Whatever the outcome of joining Microworkers this is by way of an experiment for me rather than an endorsement of Microworkers so please if you have experience of Microworkers I would love to hear from you.

How To Make Money - Week 1 at RedGage

I recently discovered RedGage, a website that can assist me to promote my blogs and articles for free. I signed up to RedGage because I found out that I can build backlinks to my blog articles and make a little money at the same time.

RedGage is a social community site that pays its members to post content. Members are able to add links to blogs, websites, HubPages, YouTube videos, images and miscellaneous articles and make money depending on the number of page views on RedGage each item receives.

Even more valuable to me than the money I make though is the chance to gain a backlink for every piece of web content that I link to on RedGage. Backlinks are useful for promoting blogs because Google assesses a blog's value and relevance based on the number of links pointing to a blog or website gets from site with a high PR of 3 and above the more credible the site will becomes and the more likely that PR will increased as will relevant position of your blog's articles in SERPs

To give you an idea of what I am doing I have posted my activies on RedGage for the first week. Please note I did not try for the RedGage referral bonus which would have doubled my earnings in the first 48 hours.

RedGage - Day One - Sign Up and Post Content

Today was sign up day at RedGage which took only a minute or two. I then spent some time familiarizing myself with the site content and how it works from the excellent help pages.

My first approach to gaining a presence on RedGage was to start building my RedGage community. I did this by first concentrating my efforts on adding content to RedGage. I uploaded four photos taken by me that I consider good shots. I also linked to an article I wrote several days before about how to make money writing on Xomba. I was interested in the kind of response I would get so I just waited to see what unfolded.

I was pleased to see that my earnings on RedGage had doubled in less than 24 hours. By the end of my second day I had earned $0.02. Not bad when you consider that all I did was post one new link, link to my HubPages account, one of my blogs Easy to Scrapbook and and invite a number of featured users to be my friend.

I started the RedGage Make Money 2 Hour Challenge to record the steps I took to build my presence on RedGage. I have found that my readers on some of my other blogs have been interested in what I do to build successful blogs. Rather than answer heaps of similar questions from readers I thought I would directly record what I did to set up RedGage.

Please keep in mind RedGage is an experiment for me. I don't know the outcome or whether I will make much money. I know I will make some money but just how much is anybody's guess. As I have said before in earlier posts making money on RedGage is less important to me than building backlinks to promote my blogs. RedGage has a Google Page Ranking of 4 so links from RedGage to my articles and blogs are valuable.

RedGage Strategy - Add More Content
My money making strategy for day 4 on RedGage has been to continue to add quality content. I am aiming at a mix of photos and links to my blogs. I hadn't intended to add so many photos but I have altered my strategy as I see photos are a good way to attract new friends and develop interest. Being flexible is the key. I respond to what is in front of me and adapt my game plan to suit if I can see a clear advantage.

I linked to 2 of my posts about making money online. I am being selective about what I link to at this stage largely because I am still getting a feel for the community and what kind of articles work best
Good photos are popular on RedGage. I have adjusted my strategy to include posting half a dozen photos per week
At this stage I expect to make at least 10 new friends each day. Some of my friends are now coming from requests but I am also still actively seeking friends
I am now getting some activity on my wall. MrBill who is a very prominent member of RedGage dropped in. I will make a point of responding to all who post on my wall.
As RedGage is a social community it is important to engage with others on the site. If a member of RedGage takes the time to comment on my content I will respond. The RedGage interface is clunky and not set up to easily answer comments. It is a pity that when you are viewing content you can not see at a glance how many comments have been made and if any are awaiting reply
I am continuing to comment on and rate the content of others. This is the fun part of being a member of RedGage
I am gradually adding my blogs to my list of sites. I am working on a drip feed method.

For me the money is secondary as the big bonus is driving traffic to my blogs to increase the Google Page Ranking and increase my Adsense revenue on my blogs.

RedGage Strategy - Add More Content
My money making strategy for the third day on RedGage has been to add some more content - both photos and links. I have started linking to older blog posts. The more quality content I post the greater my chance of increasing page views. Remember this equation the more page views the greater the revenue earned.

Add 1 new link - blog articles, website articles or articles from eHow, HubPages etc - 10 mins

Comment once on the content of a RedGage friend - 5 mins

Add 2 photos that are cute or striking in some way - 30 minutes

I added a link to my one of my old posts. From here on in I will be backlinking to a lot of my earlier posts. If you don't have older posts on a blog you can start concentrating on writing some articles to generate revenue
Make sure you keep adding new friends to take account of the ones who drop off and to give your RedGage content some good exposure. I added 5 new friends although several were as a result of requests.
I commented on another member's photo and rated it today. Keeping up community activity on RedGage is an important part of being a member
I added another one of my blogs to my site list today. This blog in fact I Make Money Blogger. I have decided to add the sites manuallyy as the RedGage import feature has problems. Another reason is that I have some blogs that I don't want to add to RedGage and this gives me control of that.
I added another couple of photos to RedGage before the site crashed and I couldn't do anymore for about 15 minutes, My photos are getting good traffic

RedGage Statistics
My RedGage earnings doubled today probably as a result of adding many new friends. I now have $0.04 in my account and am $24.96 away from receiving my RedGage Visa Card. I am pleased with my progress in general but my efforts got hampered by RedGage's clunky interface and the 15 minute outtage of the site.

I am noticing that my photos are receiving more interest than my bookmarked content. Heaps more page views infact. I will monitor this trend with interest

I also got my first subscriber today which was exciting.

To make any bonus money I will need to have one of my links or photos featured. Featured content is handpicked by RedGage so I can only hope that my page views increase to make the effort so far worthwhile.

Today is Day 2 of the RedGage Make Money 2 Hour Challenge. If you haven't read day 1 yet you can find it at RedGage Make Money Challenge - Day 1.

In case you are wondering about the challenge I have set myself a target to make a little money on RedGage by spending a couple of hours per day growing my community. The main reason that I have chosen RedGage is that they offer "do follow" links so I am hoping to gain some valuable backlinks by posting links on RedGage to some of the better content of my blogs.

RedGage Strategy
My money making strategy for RedGage today was to start building my RedGage community. I concentrated on adding friends and in particular featured users who were doing well on RedGage because of their level of activity. My plan is to link up with active users so we can mutually admire each others content and build our communities.

RedGage Mission Challenge Day 2 - 2 Hours
Add 1 new link - blog articles, website articles or articles from eHow, HubPages etc - 10 mins
Add 15 friends - 50 mins
Comment 3 times on the content of selected RedGage friends - 15 mins
Add 3 site links to websites, blogs, youtube profile, HubPages profile etc - 15 mins

I added a link to my latest HubPages article to create a backlink. In the coming months I will be linking to my blog articles, website articles and articles from HubPages etc - 10 mins
I added 15 new friends to RedGage. I chose my friends from the featured list by clicking on their photos content. The process of adding new friends to RedGage was kind of slow going. Each new friend I had to manually invite. It would be nice if RedGage were to update this part of the interface to automate the process.
While inviting friends I saw lots of posts and photos I was interested in. I chose several to comment on and rate. This is a way of interacting with friends and also giving quality content on RedGage the recognition it deserves.
I linked to my HubPages account, one of my blogs Easy to Scrapbook and my YouTube Videos by going to Edit Profile and adding them under sites

RedGage Statistics
I made good progress in building a community around me on RedGage today. I was pleased to see that my earnings on RedGage had doubled. By the end of my second day I had earned $0.02. Not bad when you consider that all I did was post one new link, invite some new friends and make several comments on their content.

RedGage Make Money Challenge - Day 1

Today is Day 1 of the RedGage Make Money Challenge. This is a challenge I have set myself to see what kind of earnings can be achieved by spending no more than a couple of hours a day on the online community website RedGage. My mission is to build an online presence on RedGage to drive traffic to my blogs, websites and online articles.

RedGage Strategy
My initial approach to gaining a presence on RedGage was to start by building my RedGage community. I did this by adding content to RedGage. I uploaded photos and linked to several articles.

RedGage Mission Challenge Day One - 2 Hours
Sign up to RedGage - 5 mins
Read self with RedGage - 30 mins
Add up to 4 images - 45 mins
Add links to at least 2 blog articles or articles from eHow, HubPages etc - 30 mins
Add 5 friends - 10 mins

Sign up to RedGage took only a minute or two.
I spent some time familiarizing myself with the site content and how RedGage works from the excellent help pages.
I uploaded 4 photos that I consider good shots. I spent time resizing the images and adding a watermark. With so much stealing of content on the internet I considered it a good idea to watermark my images. Also means that people will start to recognise my work. The time was spent writing a concise description of each image and adding relevant tags to facilitate search queries.

The interface on RedGage to add tags is plain silly. You can only add one word tags which makes absolutely no sense
I also linked to an article I wrote several days before about how to make money writing on Xomba. I was interested in the kind of response I would get so I just waited to see what unfolded.
I added 5 friends today. Several people approached me from the content I posted. I approached several people who willingly approved my friend request

RedGage Statistics
By the end of the first day of my RedGage Make Money Challenge I had surprisingly earned one penny from 41 page views and 5 new friends. My RedGage statistics were as follows:

Make Money Writing Potential on Xomba

How Much Money Can I Make on Xomba?
My research on the money making potential of Xomba has shown me that there is a genuine opportunity to make money writing on Xomba. Some Xomba members earn enough to pick up a Google Adsense check every month ($100 threshold) but many don't.

Contrary to what other bloggers may be telling you though Xomba is not a get rich quick scheme. I have investigated how to earn money on Xomba and there is scope to make some nice passive income once my articles are written and posted. There is also potential to make money on Xomba by referring new members.

Xomba will not however, earn me mega bucks nor do I expect that. Most bloggers and freelance writers online understand that revenue comes from many sources.
