उत्तर प्रदेश में प्राविधिक शिक्षा परिषद की ओर से संचालित पॉलीटेक्निक कॉलेजों की इस बार प्रवेश के दौरान मौज रहेगी।

संयुक्त प्रवेश परीक्षा परिषद की ओर से सरकारी एवं निजी पॉलीटेक्निक कॉलेजों में प्रवेश के लिए काउंसिलिंग की तिथि यूपीटीयू की ओर से संचालित इंजीनियरिंग कॉलेजों की काउंसिलिंग से पहले रखी गई है।

इससे तय है कि पॉलीटेक्निक में प्रवेश पर छात्रों का अधिक जोर होगा। काउंसिलिंग पांच जुलाई से शुरू हो रही है।

कारपोरेट एवं सरकारी क्षेत्र दोनों में इस समय बीटेक की अपेक्षा पॉलीटेक्निक होल्डर्स की डिमांड अधिक है। आईआईटी और एनआईटी में प्रवेश की तिथि तय नहीं होने का असर यूपीटीयू से जुड़े कॉलेजों पर भी पड़ा है और यहां भी काउंसलिंग की तिथि तय नहीं हो पा रही है।

प्रवेश कम होने की समस्या से पहले से ही परेशान इंजीनियरिंग कॉलेजों के प्रबंधन ने भी काउंसिलिंग की तिथि घोषित करने में देरी पर आपत्ति जताई है। काउंसलर डॉ. आरसी मिश्र का कहना है कि पॉलीटेक्निक एवं बीटेक की प्रवेश परीक्षा में एक ही वर्ग के छात्रों के शामिल होने से छात्रों का रुझान पॉलीटेक्निक हो सकता है।

निजी बीटेक कॉलेजों की प्रवेश समिति से जुड़े एक शिक्षक का कहना है कि इस बार तो कई नए कॉलेजों को� प्रवेशार्थी नहीं मिलेंगे। उनका कहना है कि अब सरकारी पॉलीटेक्निक कॉलेजों में अच्छी ब्रांच में प्रवेश मिलने के बाद छात्र एवं अभिभावक बीटेक में प्रवेश पर जोर नहीं देंगे।

पॉलीटेक्निक प्रवेश के लिए काउंसलिंग कार्यक्रम
- पांच से 10 जुलाई- रोल नंबर 01 से 40000 के परीक्षार्थियों का रजिस्ट्रेशन एवं काउंसिलिंग शुल्क
- सात से 12 जुलाई तक रिपोर्ट करने वाले छात्रों के प्रमाण पत्रों की जांच
- आठ से 14 जुलाई के बीच च्वाइस लाकिंग शाम पांच बजे तक

NEW DELHI Despite setbacks, Indian government is not giving up on its dream of a low-cost tablet for school and college students. The ministry of human resource development has now formally announced that it is working on Aakash 4.

In a public note posted on the website of the department of electronics and information technology, the government said, "A sub-committee comprising of technical experts has prepared the proposed vendor neutral Technical Specifications of Aakash IV. These specifications have been developed with a view to have a device at a low cost."

Unlike the original Aakash and Aakash 2, which were manufactured by Datawind, for Aakash 4 government has not yet finalized who would make the tablets. Instead, it wants to finalize the specifications of the tablet. There are reports that Aakash 4 could be manufactured by multiple hardware vendors instead of one company.

According to the proposed specifications, Aakash 4 will have a 7-inch screen with a minimum resolution of 480 x 800 pixels. To make sure that the screen has decent touch sensitivity, government wants manufacturers to use panels with at least 5 touch points. "LCD brightness should be a minimum of 290 cd/m2, and its contrast ratio should be a minimum of 500," states the note.

The government says that the processor that will power Aakash 4 should meet some minimum specifications. It says that the chip should be able to score at least 1469 points in Antutu, a popular Android benchmarking app. It also wants the tablet to handle playback of 720P videos with ease.

For memory, the government note specifies that Aakash 4 will have a minimum of 1GB DDR3 RAM. The tablet is likely to come with at least 4GB internal storage and support for up to a 32GB micro SD card. The government also says that it wants Aakash 4 to have support for external USB storage devices, keyboard, mouse, popular 3G/4G data dongles, USB to ethernet adapters and USB printers.

On paper, the minimum hardware specifications for Aakash seem to be on the lower side. But currently these are proposed specifications and the final hardware might be different. As far as software is concerned, government wants the tablet to run at least Android Jelly Bean.

Government says "all interested stakeholders may examine the proposed specifications and provide their comments especially from the point of vendor neutrality, usability and functionality." The comments and suggestions can be sent to the office of Rajat Moona, who is director general of C-DAC headquartered in the Pune University campus.

Announced with much fanfare, the Aakash project has proved to be controversial so far. Most of the original Aakash tablets, supplied to Datawind to Rajasthan IIT, were found to be defective and the institute rejected the units. Later, Datawind accused the institute of sabotaging the project.

"IIT Rajasthan put up roadblocks in front of us. It jeopardized the whole project. I can say the dirty tricks by the institute put us around six months behind on the project... they did it because they were favouring other firms... Even now the institute is trying to sabotage the project," Datawind's CEO Suneet Singh Tuli told TOI last year.

The original Aakash tablets were plagued by poor screen and very poor performance. Aakash 2 was slightly better but was not good enough for daily use in schools and colleges.

Ever the party loyalist, former Finance Minister and UPA presidential candidate Pranab Mukherjee expressed no qualms on missing out on becoming Prime Minister.
Commending Manmohan Singh as the best man for the job, Pranab said "I don't regret not being the Prime Minister. Manmohan Singh is worthy of being PM. He will be the second man who'll complete two terms."
In an interview to a TV channel, Pranab reiterated that despite being a strong contender for the Rashtrapati Bhavan in the past, he did not concern himself with the question.
In fact the Congress-led United Progressive Alliance's (UPA) presidential nominee said, "I feel honoured and humbled that the UPA leadership has nominated me for the President's post. I am happy to do what my party wanted me to do. I don't regret that I did not become the Prime Minister."
The Congress old-timer, who was virtually sidelined during the Rajiv Gandhi era, has earned his stripes as the UPA government's biggest crisis manager and consensus builder.
Pranab, however, rejected his competitor PA Sangma's challenge to a debate. Pranab said, "I love Sangma, but where is the question of a debate?"
"There is no issue to be debated upon. Debate takes place on issues raised by political parties during general elections," he added.
Pranab also rejected Sangma's conscience votes claim saying, "Where is the question of conscience? When a partyman accepts his party's decision, is it against his conscience?"
As the numbers add up in his favour ahead of the presidential elections, Pranab expressed hope that Trinamool Congress chief Mamata Banerjee would support his candidature, "I hope she takes a decision at an appropriate time and backs me."
And the man used to being in the hot seat has already charted out his plans after retiring from politics. "After retiring from politics, I wanted to read books. (The) Library would have been my destination."

The story of Maximum takes you back to the year 2003 in Mumbai where the local police had satrted a war against the dominating underworld. The command has been given in the hands of two potential and brave police officers Pratap Pandit (Sonu Sood) and Arun Inaamdar (Naseeruddin Shah) to eradicate crime from the city. The story revolves around these two police officers, their way of handling the task and their struggle for 'maximum' power. Both the officers show contradictory characters with Pandit (Sonu Sood) being ambitious and Inaamdar (Naseeruddind) conniving and silent. Both the officers engage in their self-defeating turf war which leads to a dramatic conflict between the both. The climax of the movie is a bit unpredictable. Pandit's wife (Neha Dhupa) is killed by his rivals in the climax.
The film does not prove worth due to lack of a proper plot and storyline that fails to keep the interest of the audiences going. Talking about the performances, Naseeruddin Shah as an encounter specialist is as usual the element of the movie justifying his character to the best while Sonu Sood has also made his appearance noted with less but intense dialogue delivery and too many bullets speaking for him. Neha Dhupia, who is playing Pandit's wife in the movie, looks pretty in the traditional outfits as a housewife. Vinay Pathak plays Tiwari, an Uttar-Bharatiya neta, looks has justified his role as a politician. Amit Sadh as a reporter is quite impressive in his role.

The music of Maximum has been given by Amjad-Nadeem and the lyrics by Shabbir Ahmed. 'Aa ante Amalapuram', an item number in the movie is quite popular these days.
Overall Maximum is an ordinary movie which lacks a mass appeal due to its weak script.

No regrets on not becoming PM, says Pranab

New Delhi, June 29 (IANS) UPA presidential candidate Pranab Mukherjee says he has no regrets that he could not become India's prime minister.

In an interview to CNN-IBN, the veteran Congress leader also ruled out a debate with opposition-backed nominee Purno Sangma and said that coalition politics was here to stay.
"I don't regret that," Mukherjee said, when asked if he felt bad that he could not become the prime minister despite his vast experience in politics.
"I'm repeating that Manmohan Singh is one of the finest persons and worthy person to be the prime minister.
"After Neheruji and Indiraji, he will be the next man to complete a second term. So no regret at all."
Mukherjee turned down former Lok Sabha speaker Sangma's call for a debate between the two candidates ahead of the July 19 presidential election.
"(The) issue is not about debate. Debate on what?" asked Mukherjee, who is the candidate of the United Progressive Alliance.
"(The Indian) president is a figurehead. Debate takes place on issues... on the issues determined by the political parties.
"(The) Indian president does not determine policy. Here President is not the policy maker. In the name of the president, the cabinet takes the policy decision."
Mukherjee described Sangma as "a bright man" and said: "Yes, I love him."
The Congress leader came out against conscience vote -- which Sangma has advocated in a bid to overcome his numerical disadvantage in the electoral college.
"What is conscience vote? When the party decides, is the member going to say it's against his conscience!"
Mukherjee, whose candidature also has the support of the Left, Shiv Sena and Janata Dal-United, filed his nomination for the presidential post Thursday.
Although an election will be held, Mukherjee is tipped to win.
He said coalition politics arose out of necessity. "(The) compulsion is ... because you can't go for a general election every day."
Mukherjee said he would continue to appeal to West Bengal Chief Minister and Trinamool Congress leader Mamata Banerjee to back his candidature.
"I hope she will take that decision at the appropriate time. I appeal to her to extend support to me."
He said when the debate over a presidential candidate was raging, he told Congress president Sonia Gandhi "that what(ever) role will be assigned to me I will discharge that faithfully.
"Thereafter (after) having discussions she decided... Then things followed."

Rehabilitating at the National Cricket Academy (NCA) here, Yuvraj Singh on Thursday said that hitting the nets after being treated for cancer is a "big achievement" for him and he is hoping for things to get better with each passing day.

"It's a big achievement for me hitting the nets. I felt happy, really good to be in the nets," Yuvraj, recovering from treatment for cancer, said after a training session here.
According to Yuvraj, it was not a "bad" session for him considering the six-month layoff.
"And it was not a bad session, for the first time after about six months. I got tired after about 15 minutes but I am sure every day will be a better day," he told reporters.
Hoping to make a comeback to international cricket with the Twenty20 World Cup in September, Yuvraj yesterday batted for the first time after undergoing chemotherapy in the US for a rare germ cell cancer earlier this year.
"I am right now in the second week of rehabilitation and I am feeling good. My body will slowly become stronger, I am sure," he had said yesterday.
"The target is the T20 World Cup, and hopefully, I will be able to come just before that," reiterated the 30-year-old left-hander, who has not appeared in any form of the game since last November when he was diagnosed with the disease.
He returned to India in April to continue his rehabilitation.

Sri Lanka are determined to prevent a Pakistan resurgence as they seek their first Test series win in three years when the second match starts in Colombo on Saturday.
The hosts will start as firm favourites at the Sinhalese Sports Club (SSC) after thumping Pakistan by 209 runs with a day to spare in the first Test in Galle to take the lead in the three-match series.
Sri Lanka have not won a Test series since defeating New Zealand 2-0 at home in August 2009 and have struggled to make an impact after world bowling record holder Muttiah Muralitharan quit the five-day format in 2010.
The islanders have lost five series and drawn three since the success against New Zealand - twice allowing the opposition to bounce back after winning the opening encounter.
In 2010, Sri Lanka beat India in the first match in Galle - Muralitharan's final Test appearance - before losing the third game at the P. Sara Oval in Colombo.
Then in March-April this year, the hosts triumphed over England at Galle, only to see Andrew Strauss' men win the second and final Test at the P. Sara Oval and retain their number one ranking.
Veteran skipper Mahela Jayawardene was wary of slipping on the proverbial banana skin again.
"We have to be positive," he said.
"There are two more matches to go and we need to put the Galle match behind and keep improving. We need to be a lot more consistent with bowling, batting and fielding.
"A lot of hard work is required going into the next Test. We need to handle the conditions at SSC very well. We need to try and get on top of the opposition and keep the pressure."
The SSC has proved a happy hunting ground for Sri Lanka, where they have not lost a Test since 2004, and have won six of their last 11 matches.
The hosts are likely to play an unchanged side unless seamer Nuwan Pradeep, who took one wicket in Galle, is replaced by either Thisara Perera or Dilhara Fernando.
Fernando was drafted into the squad for the second Test in place of left-arm seamer Chanaka Welegedara, who missed the Galle match due to a shoulder injury and was subsequently ruled out for the rest of the series.
Pakistan, meanwhile, will welcome back captain Misbah-ul Haq, who was banned for the Galle Test after his team's slow over-rate during the final one-dayer in Colombo on June 18.
The tourists need Misbah's calming influence as skipper and also his presence in the middle-order after they were shot out for 100 and 300 in Galle on a spin-friendly pitch.
Pakistan were let down by poor umpiring at Galle - the Decision Review System (DRS) is not being used in the series - but they have themselves to blame for their first defeat in 10 Tests.
The batting failed spectacularly in the first innings and only veteran Younis Khan (87) and young Asad Shafiq (80) provided any real resistance in the second.
Mohammad Hafeez, who led Pakistan in Misbah's absence, said the second innings performance in Galle gave him confidence the tourists would do well in the remaining two Tests.
"I liked the way the boys fought it out on the last day when the conditions were tough," he said.
"These are positive signs for the team. All is not lost yet."
Pakistan will once again bank on their spinners, who claimed 11 of the 14 Sri Lankan wickets to fall to the bowlers at Galle, with prolific off-spinner Saeed Ajmal picking up seven in the match.

Team India captain Mahendra Singh Dhoni has pipped the likes of 'Sprint King' Usain Bolt, tennis ace Novak Djokovic and team-mate Sachin Tendulkar in the latest list of world's 100 richest sportspersons, released by the Forbes magazine.

According to the list, Dhoni is ranked 31st, which is way ahead of Djokovic (62nd), Bolt (63rd) and Tendulkar (78th).

Star footballers Wayne Rooney and Fernando Torres are also behind Dhoni in the latest list.

Boxing champion Floyd Mayweather topped the list with a total earnings of $85 million, while Fillipino pugilist Manny Pacquiao, with earnings of $62 million, and golf legend Tiger Woods, with $59.4 million, are second and third.

Of his total earnings of 26.5 million, Dhoni earns 23 m through endorsements. Tendulkar has earned $18.6 million with 16.5 m from endorsements.

Interestingly, the Indian captain's earnings through endorsements is more than the world's most popular footballer Lionel Messi.

Former Olympic sprint champion Maurice Greene has dismissed the notion that Jamaican Usain Bolt can rescale the lofty heights of 2008 when he established two mind-boggling World records in the 100 and 200 metres.
Greene said he expected the marquee 100m at the upcoming London Olympics to be a very competitive affair as Bolt is no longer in the shape he was four years ago, reports Caribbean Media Corporation (CMC).

Bolt won the 100m in 9.69 seconds before returning to win the 200m in 19.30 seconds, to headline the Beijing Olympics.

"The race in London is going to be a lot closer than a lot of people think. It's going to be a really exciting race," said Greene, who won 100m gold in Sydney 12 years ago.

"I'm going to tell you right now, he can't do that (set a new world record)."

"I look at people. I analyze their races. He hasn't shown to me to be in that type of shape that he was in 2008," Greene said.

He added: "If he is in that kind of shape, he's going to win. I don't think he's in that kind of shape. He's having problems from zero to 65 (metres). From there to the finish, that's just him. You have to be with him at 70."

Following the Beijing Olympics, Bolt further lowered both records to 9.58m and 19.19m respectively, at the World Championships in Berlin a year later.

His attempt to defend both titles at last year's showpiece in Daegu was met with disappointment, however, as he false started in the 100m to suffer disqualification.

He eventually won the 200 metres in a time of 19.40 seconds. Greene warned, however, that following Bolt's disqualification, the 25-year-old would be anxious to prove his quality.

ICC calls for global lifeban on Danish Kaneria, makes other approvals

The international and first class cricketing career of Pakistan spinner Danish Kaneria, who played 61 Tests and 18 ODIs, is virtually over with the ICC on Wednesday directing its member nations to enforce the life ban imposed by the ECB.
The ICC Board during its meet in Kuala Lumpur unanimously acknowledged the lifetime ban imposed on Kaneria by ECB for his role in a spot-fixing scandal and urged its members to enforce the verdict to the fullest extent.
"Following the recent decision of the ECB's Disciplinary Panel in the anti-corruption proceedings brought against Danish Kaneria and Mervyn Westfield, the ICC Board unanimously acknowledged and agreed that the ICC and every Full, Associate and Affiliate Member should recognise and respect the sanctions imposed by the ECB's Disciplinary Panel on those players," ICC said in a statement.
Kaneria was banned for life by ECB last week after being found guilty on two charges of corruption in the Mervyn Westfield spot-fixing scandal. The 31-year-old Pakistani leg-spinner has said he will appeal against the verdict.
Grappling with the problem of spot-fixing, the ICC also emphasised on the need to remain extra vigilant in the area of anti-corruption and also maintain high level of education.
"Following the recommendations made in the De Speville report as to the capability of the ICC's ACSU, Sir Ronnie told the ICC Board that the ACSU had increased its resources. He also repeated the desire for Governments to put in place criminal legislation to protect against deliberately under-performing for personal gain and noted that progress had been made in this area in Australia," the statement said.
ICC also said that both Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) and Sri Lanka Cricket (SLC), who are yet to implement a domestic anti-corruption code, will have such a code in place by 15 August, 2012.
After its two-day meeting, the ICC Board also said "there should be continued and consistent emphasis placed on the promotion of the three formats of international cricket, particularly 50-over cricket."
"...in conjunction with the changes in playing regulations, there should be further consideration of the branding of ODI cricket, while being cognisant of the high level of interest in 50-over cricket in many countries.
The ICC Board also approved the recommended regulation changes in 50-over format including that "Powerplays be restricted to the first block of 10 overs and a batting Powerplay of five overs to be completed before the start of the 41st over."
It also recommended that "a maximum of four fielders to be allowed outside the 30-yard circle in the non-Powerplay overs and the number of permitted short pitched balls should increase from one per over to two.
"There was also no objection to the introduction of Day/Night Test cricket dependent on the agreement of both participating teams," the statement said.
The ICC Board also said that the informal discussions surrounding the ICC Independent Governance Review and the role of the ICC will continue and a further detailed debate will take place at the ICC's next Board meeting in October in Sri Lanka.
"They also continued the important debate on the protection and promotion of international cricket within a changed landscape that is showing a growing number of domestic professional T20 leagues," the statement said.

Australia great Shane Warne has said the "ego" of the England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB) forced Kevin Pietersen's retirement from all limited overs internationals. Pietersen wanted to give up 50-over one-day internationals (ODIs) while still playing Twenty20 internationals.
However, the ECB said the South Africa-born shotmaker, who remains a Test match cricketer, could only play in both shortened formats or none at all.
As a result Pietersen, the Man-of-the-Tournament when England won the World Cup Twenty20 in the Caribbean two years ago, is set to miss the defence of their title in Sri Lanka this September. He will also be absent from the upcoming one-day series against Australia and Warne, who captained Pietersen at county side Hampshire, said England had damaged themselves.
"Any team that hasn't got Kevin Pietersen is significantly weaker," Warne told the Independent. "He's a match-winner so that's a big loss. It staggers me and I'm very surprised that the ECB didn't try and negotiate that better, drop their egos and say, okay we understand this, we want to keep our best players playing all the time."
He added: "I think it's just a bit too much ego for my liking from the ECB. Who wouldn't want Pietersen in your side? He's a match-winner and he puts bums on seats because people love watching him play. His attitude rubs off on the rest of the players. So to me it's a huge loss. More people might give up one-day cricket or they might give up Twenty20," added the legendary legspinner, who contrasted Pietersen's situation with that of Michael Clarke, the Australia captain. A West Bengal court Friday rejected the bail plea of Asiad gold medallist runner Pinki Pramanik, accused of being a male, and sent the athlete to judicial custody till July 12 for alleged rape.
"The court of chief judicial magistrate, Barasat, (North 24-Parganas) Anita Mathur, rejected the bail plea of Pinki and remanded her to further judicial custody till July 12," the athlete's counsel Tuhin Roy said.
The court also allowed the prosecution plea to take Pramanik for a chromosomal test to conclusively determine her gender.
The athlete has twice undergone gender determination tests in two different government hospitals but on both the occasions the tests were inconclusive.
"In the name of gender test, Pinki is being taken from one hospital to another, which has been causing her mental trauma and physical harassment. We have, therefore, requested the court to decide a particular hospital where adequate facilities are available and tests to determine her gender can be ascertained conclusively," added Roy.
An 11-member medical board consisting of doctors from the government-run SSKM Hospital was constituted and conducted several tests on Pinki June 25. However, due to the lack of facilities, Karyotyping - a choromosomal test - could not be carried out.
The athlete's June 19 test at another government hospital in North 24 Parganas also was inconclusive, following which the athlete was referred to the SSKM.
Pramanik was arrested June 14 and remanded in 14 days' judicial custody by a court June 15 after the athlete's live-in partner, a divorcee and a mother of one, filed a police complaint accusing the athlete of being a male who repeatedly "raped and tortured" her.
Subsequent to the arrest, Pramanik was taken to a private nursing home for a medical check-up where the test reports claimed that the former top notch athlete was indeed a male.
Pramanik, however, claimed innocence and said it was a conspiracy.
Pramanik, who retired from athletics three years ago, won gold in the 4x400 metres relay at the 2006 Asian Games in Doha in Qatar. The runner was a silver medallist at the Melbourne Commonwealth Games the same year.
The Eastern Railway, with which the athlete is a ticket collector, suspended Pramanik June 16 following her remand in judicial custody.

A senior citizen living in Saket became the latest victim of the ‘hypnotise-and-rob’ gang on Wednesday morning. Stela Abrahim, 70, was alone at home when a man in his 30s knocked on his door saying that he had come to deliver the cheque for her husband’s insurance policy. “It
happened around 11:15 am, and the man claimed that he would have to check a few things before he could hand over the documents. My mother allowed him inside the house,” said Rohit Abrahim, the victim’s son, who works at a finance consultancy firm. “He asked my mother to bring all the gold jewellery. He then told her to bring her I-card. While she went inside her bedroom to get it, he ran away with the jewellery,” he added.
Before leaving, the man locked the main gate from outside.
Stela immediately made a PCR call, but Rohit claimed that it took nearly 30 minutes for the police to arrive. “By that time, my mother had called me and I had rushed home. Initially, the police was reluctant to file an FIR, but later a case was registered,” he said.
Police said they had collected fingerprints from the house and were checking records of gangs who operated with similar modus operandi.

RAJESH KHANNASocial networking sites killed Rajesh Khanna saying that he's succumbed to his illness, following days of going without food. Akshay Kumar later on tweeted to clear the air.

DILIP KUMAR
In September 2011, there was a rumour that Dilip Kumar's health is getting worse. Some tweets even spread news of his death. Later Dilip Kumar's wife Saira Banu issued a public statement clarifying that the actor is in good health and in high spirits.

LATA MANGESHKAR
Legendary singer Lata Mangeshkar also became the victim of an online death hoax. Internet was abuzz with rumours recently that the singer had passed away.
Lata Mangeshkhar had clarified the rumour on Twitter saying, "Namaskar. Please don't believe any rumours which are doing the rounds about my health and well-being. All is well, by the grace of god," the 82-year-old Lata wrote on her Twitter page.

RAJINIKANTH
The news of Rajinikanth's death spread in May last year. The mega star issued a statement to clarify the hoax.
