May 19, 2010, all day.

Advertising is expensive – but editorial is priceless! Readers trust and value any information they read in an article or column far more than any data they glean from an advertisement. Even when the facts presented in an article and in an advertisement are identical, the results are not the same.

Improving media relations and earning news coverage for your organization is critical to raising awareness of your mission. Media coverage of your organization’s work and leadership helps establish your credibility in the community, attracts allies, and sways public opinion. Getting good media coverage is often seen as a daunting task, but with some preparation and practice it can be a highly rewarding endeavour!

In this class you will get tips for generating coverage, learn how to establish your message and how to write an effective Press Release. Moreover, a short excursus to Crisis Management will be done.

Bettina Presslauer MBA earned her degrees in International Economics and Business Administration in Austria, Sweden and the U. S. Her working stations include: Managing Director in Regional Development, Head of International Conferences (University of Applied Sciences UA), Head of PR-Department (Bavaria International), Lecturer at University of Applied Sciences Hof (GER), at University of Applied Sciences Upper Austria and at Johannes Kepler University Linz, Radio Editor (Life Radio) and Associate of the Upper Austrian Minister of Finance and Economic Affairs.

One of the former students of the International Studies for Informatics Program in Austria, namely Alexandra Jimborean, has been accepted as a finalist for the Google Anita Borg Memorial Scholarship (ABMS). She has been selected as one of the 20 finalists from Europe.

“After graduating the ISI Master programme, I have begun my PhD studies in Strasbourg, France. Nevertheless, I continue to apply to diverse scholarships and contests, and the one I am currently preparing for is http://www.google.com/anitaborg-emea/ – offered by Google.”

- says Alexandra before her application to Google’s scholarship.

After the personal recommendation from Prof. Bruno Buchberger, head of the International Master’s Program and based on her expertise she has been successfully selected, and let ISI know of her success:

“I would like to thank you for your recommendation and for your support and I am very happy to inform you that I have been selected by Google as one of the 20 finalists from Europe. Therefore, I have been awarded a prize of excellence and the sum of 7000E. The event will be celebrated in Zurich by the end of June. Again, thank you very much for your help.”

This should be a motivation to our future students applying to our International Master’s Program.

The International Studies for Informatics is inviting young students worldwide to study at their school formed in collaboration between the Johannes Kepler University Linz and the Upper Austria University of Applied Sciences. The students will have an opportunity to study with an innovative Austrian company, get their own individual study plan and their own advisor. Future possibilities at the International School are also possible as the program lies in the middle of the Softwarepark Hagenberg where there is opportunity to work, found a company via the International Incubator Hagenberg or study further with the International PhD Program.

You will be studying with an innovative Austrian company while having an individual study plan and an advisor assigned specifically to you.

An individual study plan in English

During his study in Austria each individual student will be assigned an individual study plan which will be in the English or optionally German language. This is designed for making him an expert in the specialization topic chosen for him at the beginning of the year.

An individual advisor

The student is assigned an individual advisor. The advisor is a professor who is an expert in the chosen specialization topic. This is done right at the beginning of the mater’s program. His advisor will guide him through the entire year and, finally, is also the advisor of his master’s thesis.

Creative block courses

In addition, the master’s program offers various unique block courses for developing the creative, intellectual, communication, and also social skills of the students. Among these courses is a “Thinking” course, that trains the problem solving capability of students based on logic training, and the so-called “Entrepreneurship-Training” course that trains students to start their own business and become responsible leaders in society. Apply now to the International Studies for Informatics Master’s Program.
