A summer pursuit when the days are long and the time is hard to fill. I do like coloring though. It's a decent way to spend your time. Maybe a little more productive then video games but not as good as reading. I don't know.

Combine it with listening to Black Sabbath and you got some quality time guaranteed, Art and METAL! Anyhow, after she found her Pokemon pages she noticed I was having a hard time finding something to color and suggested I google "wrestling coloring pages" She knows I like wrestling. I thought that was a good idea and DUDE, It was. I came upon the entire WCW coloring book. I was stoked beyond belief, and the only problem I had at that point was that I didn't know where to start. There were many awesome choices.

Not being able to decide I figged I'd head to the bottom and color what may be the worst wrestler of all time... NFL standout and former Chicago Bear great Steve "Mongo" McMichael He was the shits. THE SHITS! I mean that in the nicest possible way cause he seemed to try hard and that counts for a lot because a lot of pro-wrestle fools don't even do that much.

Why are the people green? Zelly asked me that. I told her it was because they were sentenced to Hell for a life of evil deeds and were being forced to watch Mongo grapple for all eternity. Then she asked me if that were bad and I told her it was THE WORST! She took all that in and asked if that meant the red splotch was blood? Since it's Hell and all. I told her it wasn't but that would be cool, but what it was was Steve's demonic shadow casting a crimson splotch upon the canvas. She told me that was also pretty cool and went back to work on her Pikachu picture. I think this is the point where I'm supposed to say "Good times" and maybe repeat it again...

I don't know the deal with that.

What I do know is that when I was that I loved this song to death.Still do. It's all high tech and stuff. It sounds dated today but has that cool quality of Science Fiction from the past. The past's version of the future.

I remember, and this was kind of funny. Every saturday they would do a YO! MTV RAPS countdown which Dowtown Science was never on. They prolly played the video like one time. Ever. So anyway, they did the countdown and it was all like, MC REN and Ice Cube and whoever and when they came to number one they had some sort of technical glitch and played Radioactive for like fifteen seconds. I jumped up and screamed that justice had finally been served and the H.N.I.Cs at MTV finally recognized Downtown Science as awsome. But then it cut to The Fresh Prince's Summertime or whatever the proper winner was and I fell to the ground crushed. I was really involved in Hip Hop at the time.

D.S only recorded the one record here but it produced a couple of good tunes like this and Room To Breathe. You can see that video HERE!!!!!. It's OK. As I understand it Bosco Money did all the production work so I don't know what Sam did besides hang around in the music videos. Maybe he was the token white guy. Could be that's why he left 3rd Bass. They didn't need a token white. They needed the other kind and got put with Daddy Rich. I wonder if that's true.It may be.

This is another tape that was hard to come by. I had it on my list for our nect run to Amobea in Berkeley. When we got there one Saturday they totally didn't have the Cassingle or the album. I was bummed but my man Jesse said that his friend Mack who lived in Richmond had bought it and didn't like it so he'd let me have it for 5 bucks if we drove over there to get it. Jesse wanted an additional five bucks gas money. He drove this big ass yellow Caddy at the time. It got maybe, 3 miles to the gallon. At thispoint I was so close but realized that ten bucks was too much to spend on a tape of Bosco Money rapping. No offense Bosco. Jesse told Mac that and he said "fuck it. I don't like it anyway so you can just have it if you come and get it". We went. I got it and actually have it to this day. Mementos.

I don't know too much about Sam's later doings. I found him on Myspace and it looks like he does club dates and DJs here and there. That's cool. He's still getting paid for making music. Can't beat that.

Bosco Money continued on in the game as Ken Omega and recorded a few records. I have to admit that I haven't heard them or actually knew about them up til now. Sorry again Bosco, I mean Ken. I'll cop em and let you guys know what I think. If you care to know. He also flys HELICOPTERS! I'm gonna finish this with a picture of him sitting in one. Just for Shits and gigs..

Japanese MMA is awesome. It's similar to American MMA but also like pro wrestling. Dudes wear masks and have wacky intros and they try piledrivers and powerbombs sometimes. It's fun. Last month I saw Jose Canseco fight a Korean Giant. I prefer my entertainment have giants, thank you very much.

I dig that poster. Very arty-farty. I might use it as my desktop wallpaper. I think I have a pic of Olivia Munn there right now. Here it is if you wanna take a look. You prolly do.. MUNN!!! Anyhow, here's the fight card just to keep it somewhat informative... Somewhat. I got this from MMAMANIA. That's an informative site. The Greatest Of All Time. For real, he's the best. When it comes to rhyming words and the ability to take a long ass word and flip it next to another long ass word and also to have it make total sense, plus rhyme. Dude is the best. I think I already said that though in my opening sentence.

Dude had a skill to take his lyrics in directions that no one else can go. Dude, he takes his shit directions that no one else can even concieve. He doesn't just turn left he turns like into time and space. Into the cracks of the fabric of reality. Not really that abstract but close to that.

I have to admit that it was only a couple of years ago that I came to appreciate Rakim as the legend that he is. I don't know, I wasn't into his slow flow and I remember that I read somewhere that Rakim would never freestyle and that rubbed me the wrong way. Now I realize that he has too much respect for his words to just spit them out like that. He crafts songs. Builds them. They don't just appear out of nowhere. He takes his time and THINKS about what he wants to say and how he is going to say it. A freestyle MC is more like the type of dude that reacts to things. That's not a bad thing in Hip Hop but Rakim aint that type of guy.

It could be that Rakim's style requires an adult ear to appreciate the style and what is being done with them. I think I just didn't understand. He's a man kicking songs for men. Step aside junior. This is grown up shit.

Kid Capri is on the one and twos for the performance and that's as awesome as it gets. I mean, if for whatever reason you can't get Eric B then you might as well go with some old cream of the crop shit and get Kid Capri. He cuts it up nice during the breaks. Capri's one of those old school cats that doesn't necasarily have the credits to his name but has credentials just from having been down for so long. He's never really put out his own awesome music per se as much as he's appeared on some other dudes's awesome music. Kid's worked with KRS ONE. The Flava Unit, Ice-T and he was in Dr. Dre and Ed Lover's kick ass movie Who's The Man. That's the shit right there.

Here's the lyrics of the song. It's pretty cool to read along while he spits.

Let's trace the hints and check the file
Let see who bit to detect the style
I flip the script so they can't get foul.
At least not now, it'll take a while
I change the pace to complete the beat
I drop the bass,'till mc's get weak.
For every word they trace, it's a scar they keep...
'Cause when I speak, they freak
To sweat the technique
I made my debut in '86
Wit a melody and a president's mix
And now I stay on target and refuse to miss
And I still make hits
wit' beats, parties, clubs, in the cars and jeeps
My underground sound vibrates the streets
MC's wanna beef then I play for keeps
When they sweat the technique

Don't Sweat the Technique

They wanna know how many rhymes have I ripped in rep., but
Researchers never found all the pieces yet
Scientists try to solve the context
Philosophers are wondering what's next
Pieces are took to last who observe them
They couldn't absorb them, they didn't deserve them
My ideas are only for the audience's ears

For my opponents, it might take years
Pencils and pens, are swords
Letters put together form a key to chords
I'm also a sculpture, born with structure
Because of my culture, I'm a rip and destruct the
Difficult styles that'll be for the technology
Complete sights and new heights after I get deep
You don't have to speak just seek
And peep the technique

But don't sweat the technique

(Not in the performance but on the album cut.....)

I speak indiscreet cause talk is cheap

Then I get deep and the weak then complete their
Pull with a seat, never weak or obsolete
They never grow old techniques become antiques
Better then something brand new 'cause it's radiant
And the wild style'll have much more volume
Classical too intelligent to be radical
Masterful, never irrelevant: mathematical
Here's some soothing souvenirs for all the years
They fought, and sought, the thoughts and ideas
It's cool when you freak to the beat
But don't sweat the technique

I dig that little badge Axel has in his hand. It'd be cool if he came with a banana. You know, to jam it up those jerk-ass cop's tail pipe. Makes the car all fracked up. That was my favorite part... These should drop in November.

It was my introduction to Kool Keith and the first time that I really had to dig for beats like, hard core. Man, as I recall the record they had out at the time was Funk Your Head Up and the cut off that record was not the one that you hear here in the video. This tune is a Beatminerz remix that came out later. I NEVER found this version of the song. For real, I went the whole of my hip-hop youth having only heard this song the one or two times that I actually saw the video and the album cut was pretty wack. The whole of the record was pretty wack as i recall. I threw it out of Shawndra Steven's truck window in a fit of frustration at how shitty it was.

I don't know if that's something they still do nowadays but back then they'd play a version of the song on MTV, then the version you'd get on the album would be a totally different mix and later, like weeks later they'd come out with a Casingle of the "video edit'. Total okey-doke. That scam used to drive me bananas. I can't tell you the amount of times I fell for it.

Me and my man Jesse went up and down our North Bay beat route looking for this, amongst other things of course but we never found it. Ever. That's so weird. I only recently learned that it was the Beatminerz remix that I was looking for that might have helped me cop it but I imagine I'd have bought any version of Poppa Large that I saw at the store.

I think that it was amongst the first MP3s I downloaded with Napster. Napster, that was a brief but fun era. I found so many cool tunes that way. What I liked was that you could see the songs that other people had. Gave you ideas about what was out there. Good times. Sort of.

The video was totally wild for a hip-hop cut. It's all scary like Keith was in an insane asylum and is being spun around for some reason. I can't imagine that would help if you were all messed up in the head. I don' t think that's the best place for you Kool. He must not have had good insurance. Prolly none. Anyway, it's a cool song. Enjoy.

That's Jessica Biel's stripper movie that went straight to video. How wild is that and how terrible must that flick be to have her totally naked in it and it doesn't even for one second play in a theater. Back in the day it would have. In some ways the WWW has killed celeb nude scenes but in other ways it's improved it a MILLION times. WWW is prolly better then back in the day. I wanted to use an "alligator mouth" like less then-greater then style to illustrate that but failed. > like one of those there but bigger....

I can't even explain how much which sucks cause I'm playing the role of someone who is supposed to tell you things about stuff. Anyway, this here is a super-cool live version of Fakin' The Funk by Main Source.

I like how guest MC Neek The Exotic is rocking that turqouise t-shirt. That's back when it was cool to wear colored T's. Now kids just be wearing baggy white ones. Super baggy ass ones. Like to the ground and stuff. I wonder how often hip hop youngsters get their long T's stuck in escalators when they're hanging out at the mall? Prolly ALL the time. Maybe that's why that one at my plaza is always broke. Too many tall T's.

Main Source was one of those cool ass groups that not too many people remember. They only dropped one album before breaking up the original line up of K-Cut, Sir Scratch and rapper, producer, main talent ,The Large Professor. Their debut album Breaking Atoms is a four and a half star hip-hop semi-classic. It's a classic to me but I don't know how many other dude's would agree with me taking it as far as classic status.

I remember the first time I heard Main Source on MTV. It was uhm, Looking At The Front Door A little love song about how Large Pro was sick of having his girl dirt on him cause he aint made of money and all refined like Remington Steele of whoever. I thought that it was a pretty interesting song for the time. It wasn't too common for an MC to take it down the relationship road without saying some shit about how bitches aint shit or whatever (for the record, that song came YEARS later. I'm just using it as a witty example of a common for the time anti-girl song, trying to anyway)

I wanted to hear that song one more time but without the internet to just like, look it up or whatever all I could do was head to Rainbow Records and see if they had it in. It was a different time. I mean, I just saw the video who even knows if the tape would be out yet. I didn't know dick. Back in the day nobody knew anything about anything. We struggled along blindly to the record store with nothing but ten bucks for a tape and a heart filled with hope.

Luckily they had it, this time. Usually they didn't have any of the hip hop that I wanted. Me and my homeboy Jesse used to drive up to Berkely ALL THE TIME to get new beats. Seriously we had to drive two hours just to buy tapes we wanted. That sucked so bad but in a lot of ways was cool. The searching caused greater appreciation.

Nowadays I have gigs of music on my computer that I've never even heard but I could still tell you all the tracks off of Jeru The Damaja's first album in order cause I actually had to leave the house to score on not just leave the house but actually drive HOURS just to get the chance to buy it.

I can barely get through ten seconds of a song unless it sounds as awesome as Raising Hell or something lately because I know I can just go to Pirate Bay and grab some other shit that isn't set to drop for three months. I don't know man, just feeling reticent for the old days. Sorry that this isn't too imformative about Main Source. Maybe next time.

Peter Venkman and a Scary Ass Dog. I don't think that's it's real name though. Maybe but prolly not. So what we have here is a Peter Venkman Minimate. Peter Venkmen was played by, and we all know this.. Bill Murray. So what we have here is a Bill Murray Minimate. That has to be like one of, if not THE COOLEST THING OF ALL TIME.

You can order it HERE if you want. It's 6.99. That's not too bad at all. I'm gonna wait til it's at my local TRU before I pick it up. We go like every week lately. For like Bakugan, Zelly's new deal or for Minimates which TRU recently started carrying. Which is totally awesome.
