Nael and I live in different states. We always have, throughout the whole course of our relationship. When we met, I lived in southern Maine and he lived in Massachusetts. It was a fairly long drive, but not horribly inconvenient for weekend visits etc. After a month or two, he moved back to his original home state in the midwest, and two months later, I relocated for school. We’re currently both living in the Midwest, but about five hours apart. We manage to scrape a couple of weekends a month together, but we have yet to spend more than three or four consecutive days in the same state. It’s been six months.

It is the nature of long distance relationships that they are hard. Some people make them work at distances I couldn’t imagine dealing with (see also: Elleiras), but even dealing with what I have is becoming more challenging on a daily basis. To that end, WoW has been… incredible. It’s been meeting place, communication tool, lifeline. When I wrote before about our differing goals in the game, the conversations that came out of that blog post improved our communication on every subject. We didn’t meet in Azeroth, but we’ve learned to be a couple there.

Even our in-game goals have grown more in sync since we server hopped to Horde side and Kel’thuzad. Where he used to do more battlegrounds and I did more heroics, now we’re both doing a mix of pvp and pve. We’re both altoholics who are passing out the heirlooms like candy to our little locks, priests, and shammies. We’ve even used the opportunity to run as tank and healer to get to know each other in different ways. Yeah, it sounds a little overdramatic, but it’s true.

Sometimes, though I have to wonder, is there too much WoW in the relationship? When we started, we were both already pretty devoted gamers, but since WoW became my excuse to sit in front of Skype, I’ve let my other interests slide. I don’t play hardly any console games anymore. I’ve pretty much abandoned any non-WoW related writing projects. And I know Nael misses tabletop RPGs. He still buys tons of books, but he hasn’t played in months.

We play WoW, we talk WoW, we read the same blogs and laugh at the same inside jokes. Even when we’re physically together, we spend a large amount of time talking about WoW. It’s not at all uncommon for names like Gnomeaggedon, Tamarind, Larísa or Gevlon to find their way into our ordinary conversations. Recently we got together with Aurdon and Adreanna for dinner and spent the whole time talking about guilds. It’s like I forget sometimes during the week that I’m dating Joe the Human instead of Corridon the Blood Elf (or Naelian the Night Elf), and that we’re more closely affiliated with a real life political party and church than with the Horde and the Light. The key to just about everything is balance, and in this case, I feel the scale tipping.

I don’t want to sound like I have fundamental doubts about my relationship. I don’t. I’m just beginning to have doubts about the role that WoW plays in that relationship; that if we use WoW exclusively as our means of contact when we’re apart, our relationship will somehow become about WoW, instead of about all the other things that matter. That we’ve used it for so long as a tool to cope with the difficulties of distance that it’s become a crutch we can’t do without.

But what else would we fill that space with? At this point, it’s not possible to be together more than we are… I’m in law school, he’s in nursing school, we both have a lot going on, and the distance is pretty much insurmountable for the time being. We’ve tried skyping through other games (he likes NHL and NFL games, I like JRPGs like Shin Megami Tensei or Final Fantasy) but we wind up just talking about a game the other isn’t even playing, in a genre the other isn’t super keen on, which just gets boring. I’m thinking perhaps it might be a good idea for us to try another MMO together (I hear WAR is doing unlimited trial accounts) or play a console game concurrently (ooh Dragon Age?) so that we have some shared experience to fill our days apart, but we don’t transform our real selves irretrievably into Myrhani and Corridon.

But really no matter how we pass the time in between, I guess I’m just lonely and sad, and looking forward to a time when I can see his face every day, instead of his avatar.

Just a quick one, I’m sure the people that really know what’s going on will be all over this in a few hours like small children on a bowl of M&Ms, but the most recent PTR patch notes include this nugget:

Lay on Hands: This ability will place Forbearance on the paladin if used on his or herself. It will not place Forbearance on others.

It’s fair, I think, though still a “band-aid” fix. It balances the concerns that led to the LOH nerf in the first place with the very legitimate complaints that paladins had about it. And it goes a long way to restoring healer-tank synergy between holy and prot pallies. This is a change I can live with.

My guild now has close to thirty 80s.

I am raring to get into some raids… seriously, Naxx10 should not be out of reach for us at this point. We have three mainspec tanks with good enough gear to get moving on things, supposedly we have three mainspec healers (though one of them is not very good, and one might as well be imaginary for all I’ve seen her online) and a whole busload of dps.

But what’s happening is this: any player with the requisite experience for raid leading is already PuGging it every week. Our GM is, how shall we say it, flaky? and won’t schedule anything, preferring instead some nonexistent state of flow where things magically come together without planning or effort. And I’m not comfortable taking the position of responsibility in a fail = kick pug. Nor, I know, is Naelian, who’s had a bit of a struggle with tanking in heroics… he’s very hot and cold… sometimes we clear effortlessly, sometimes we struggle and wipe. Neither of us want to go traipsing into Naxx with a bunch of TOTC-25 geared DPS and either be carried or kicked.

So that’s where we stand. Looking for suggestions on how to take a very promising social guild whose high level members are vocally interested in raiding, and turn them into a social guild with a 10 man casual raid team. When the leadership’s not very motivated (the GM pugs with the express intent of being carried)… So far our ideas are thus:

1) We’re going to try starting up a guild-o-matic site for the guild, and offer to upgrade it to one of the premium packages if the guild uses it. We are a pretty social bunch, I’m willing to be the forums will be used.

2)If the website is a hit, we’re going to work on procuring a vent server. If guild raiding doesn’t pan out, we can find another use for a vent server. We’re geeky, we can always find a use for a vent server.

3) We’re going to, as officers, stick some guild events in the calendar and see if anyone signs up. Something like chain heroics or a guild raid on Goldshire or something. Just to get the guild used to the idea of signing up for something and then showing up for same.

4) If that’s a success, schedule a raid. Maybe Naxx, maybe Kara. Whatever, a raid.

Does anyone have any ideas on other things we could do? We’ve been in this guild long enough to know that there are a lot of people who are interested and who want this to happen, just nobody knows how to make it happen. Since our GM is too lazy to even name the bank tabs, it isn’t going to be him who gets the ball rolling, so it’ll have to be us.

And as a final question… When do you admit that the guild lacks the proper leadership and find a new one? We haven’t been with our current guild long, but we have very real ties there that would be unpleasant to cut. But I’ve been too hungry for progression for too long to sit still and wait for someone else to get a fire lit under his bum.

In celebration of Myrhani’s 79th and final (for now) ding, I’ve decided this post will be all about me. Ohhhhh wait, all my posts are all about me. Oh well, in celebration of Myrhani’s 79th and final (for now) ding, this post will be in the Grand Tradition of Posts that are All About Me.

I decided to steal the most excellent Miss Medicina’s non-meme questionnaire. Which I also read about on Tamarind, Oriniwen, and Kyrilean’s blogs. Since I’ve been a healer for such a short time, nobody’s likely to tag me so I tag me! Besides, it’s not a meme, I don’t need to be tagged to play. YAY! So here goes.

Edit: I did get tagged! And since it’s momentous, I’m editing it in. See, right here.

What is the name, class, and spec of your primary healer?

That would be Myrhani, holy paladin and incongruously, champion jouster.

What is your primary group healing environment? (i.e. raids, pvp, 5 mans)

Five mans for the most part. Give me a break I just dinged 80 on Tuesday. I have healed the odd retro raid though, including Kara and Tempest Keep with mixed results.

What is your favorite healing spell for your class and why?

I love the combination of Beacon of Light and glyph of Holy Light. I’m mostly a single target spammer, so this gives me a quasi AOE heal, which considering how many melee dps I’ve been running with is hugely valuable. I love slapping Beacon on the tank then dropping a nice Holy Light on the most damaged DPS and then watching it splash over onto the other melee. Three targets healed, one spell. Delicious.

What healing spell do you use least for your class and why?

Hm. I only have three primary heals (Flash, HL, and Shock) and I use them all pretty consistently. I suppose I forget my “oh shit” button Lay on Hands more than I should. There’s really no excuse for me or the tank to die while LOH is off cooldown, but… sometimes it happens.

What do you feel is the biggest strength of your healing class and why?

I have big heals. I can cast lots of big heals without stopping. So I can keep a single target up for a long, LONG time. Whether that’s me in a duel or a tank in an instance. So yes, it’s the stock answer, but I’m a very good single target healer.

In a 25 man raiding environment, what do you feel, in general, is the best healing assignment for you?

I’ll be honest, the only 25 man raid I’ve ever done is TK, so this is not going to be the most relevant answer in earth-history. Add to that, the TK raid was hideously disorganized, so there weren’t really assignments given to the healers, especially not me, the lone 73 in a group of 80s. But I’m used to doing a lot of 5mans and AV, so using Beacon to keep the tank up while sprinkling small heals over the dps in general is the most natural feel for me. I don’t know what you’d call that really… tank healing by raid healing? XD

What healing class do you enjoy healing with most and why?

As a co-healer? Well again, my experience is limited, but I like the idea of having a druid with a battle rez running around. I suppose a boomkin would do just as well as a tree, but I like the battle rez.

What healing class do you enjoy healing with least and why?

Disc priest. I have NO idea what those guys are doing which makes it hard for me to be helpful to them. Also all those shields clutter up my VuhDo bars. Gotta know they’re there, but man… they block up my visuals.

What is your worst habit as a healer?

I’m still a little new at all this, so I haven’t managed to override my fight or flight instinct when things go south. Instead of acting in a rational manner and using my extra spiffy tools like Hand of Drop the Threat off the DPS or Hand of Make the Tank’s Damage Hit Me Instead or Shield of Takes Half Damage… I panic and throw flash of lights everywhere, then run out of mana and pop divine plea and then run into a wall and cry while everyone wipes around me. Must. Work. On. Developing. Composure.

What is your biggest pet peeve in a group environment while healing?

DPS that go into panic mode when they get aggro. Seriously, chill. Your situation is nowhere near as bad as mine. Geez.

The other day I was healing for a group in a 5man and there was this idiot boomkin (I’m sorry, but he was) and he started taking damage and he started squawking “OMG i have aggro, OMG” while running around in circles further and further from the tank. I tried to heal him but he kept popping in and out of range. Grr! He happened to die at the close point of his circle to me, so the mobs that ate him came after me next. Grr again! After the fight when I ressed him, he said “next time use hand of protection, dude.” To which I replied “next time run to the #$&^ing tank!” Yes, I should be quicker with my hand of this and that effect. But I generally wouldn’t use them on people acting like idiots anyway. It’s the principle of the thing. Act in a generally rational manner and I’ll do everything I can to save you. Act like a freaking moron and… well suffer the consequences.

And yes, I know, my biggest problem is also my biggest irritant. Why do you think it bothers me so much that I do it? Because when I act like a freaking moron I have to suffer the consequences, which are generally not pleasant or ego boosting.

Do you feel that your class/spec is well balanced with other healers for PvE healing?

Hrm. I really don’t know. I feel like I can heal an instance with relative ease as long as I’m somewhat appropriately geared for it. I feel like the other healing classes can truthfully make the same claim, so in that sense they seem to be performing at similar levels. Obviously I have an advantage while healing single targets, but I’m at a distinct disadvantage when it comes to HoTs or AOE. I think that’s a good thing, I like being distinct.

What tools do you use to evaluate your own performance as a healer?

I grade on a Pass/Fail scheme. If the answer to all these questions is No, then I pass: Is the tank dead? Am I dead? Is anyone else dead? Are we really really low on health? Like skin of the teeth, shaking, heavy breathing low?

If any of the answers are yes, then I have to look a little harder to find out if I fail or if someone else does. Usually it’s obvious, particularly if I’m running against the wall futilely casting flash of light on passing critters and crying. If it’s not so obvious, I like to check overheals (possible oom culprit – my fail), who pulls aggro (I’m single target mainly, if too many people are getting smashed in the face that means problems, and mostly ones of the not-preventable variety) and if the tank is getting crit (that’s fail, but it ain’t my fail).

What do you think is the biggest misconception people have about your healing class?

Since I wear plate, I’m practically a tank. I have had a few tanks ignore aggro on me, since as a plate wearer I must be able to offtank, right? RIGHT?! Note to tanks everywhere: holy plate is not real plate. It’s faux-plate, designed to give the appearance of badassness but really just protecting against minor irritants like mosquito bites and poison ivy.

I made a fail tank macro: /rw AGGRO ON HEALER! HELP!

I only use it on real neglectful tanks, but usually if they see it a few times right before I bite it, they’ll get a sort of Pavlovian association: Healer makes macro, healer dies… must intervene (or salivate, whatever).

What do you feel is the most difficult thing for new healers of your class to learn?

Which buttons to push in an emergency. I have the privilege of working real close with my tank so he can tell me when I do Really Bad Things, like bubbling him at the beginning of the fight. I had no idea that it would prevent him from building threat. I thought it was a nice tactic to prevent an initial damage spike. Wrong. But you have to learn those things by doing, sometimes.

If someone were to try to evaluate your performance as a healer via recount, what sort of patterns would they see (i.e. lots of overhealing, low healing output, etc)?

High overheal, from using Beacon as a faux-AOE… Healing 4k on a rogue that’s only down by 1.5k still hits the tank for 4k with beacon, but it gives you a bunch of overheal on the rogue. It’s a trade I’m willing to make to get 5.5k healed out of a single 4k flash. Big numbers for Beacon and Flash, lower numbers for Shock and Holy Light.

Haste or Crit and why?

Crit. I do love mana regen. Haste is nice too, but I get a 15% haste buff from my incredibly long range judgments anyway. Also, when you’re critting fairly regularly with Shock, you get lots of instant Flashes. Which makes Crit over Haste even more logical, imho.

What healing class do you feel you understand least?

Disc priest. They have shields and stuff. Thats as far as I get in the Discipline category at trivia night at the pub.

What add-ons or macros do you use, if any, to aid you in healing?

VuhDo. *sound of Alleluia Chorus sung by blood elves wearing pally wings*

I also have lots of cooldowns macroed to go off together, which helps you make the most of everything at a key moment. Although I may have to unmacro them for certain fights as things get more challenging (I need Aura Mastery on command in Gundrak at the stupid silencing rhino bits, etc.).

Do you strive primarily for balance between your healing stats, or do you stack some much higher than others, and why?

Right now I’m stacking lots of Int and Crit. I need to make sure my mana pool is big enough to handle long fights, which has been something of a problem for me in the past. I also like to make sure I’m getting a fair amount of mana return from my crits, which means I have to have a fair amount of crits. So yes, Crit and Int stacking. Once I get those two to a satisfactory level, I suppose I’ll switch to Spellpower for a while.

I would like to hear what Gnomeaggedon’s Squidly has to say about all this healing jazz… Go!

I had a bad time the other day in TOC. Maybe other healers have had the experience of everything just going down the drain when you have no idea how or why. It’s supremely frustrating! Nothing makes you feel more like a fail healer than watching your tank wilt and die over and over again, and not knowing what is going wrong.

Here’s what happened: Myself and Naelian went to TOC the other night to farm. Myrhani was 78 at the time, but I’d been healing regular TOC without issue for a level and a half, and it had become very very routine. I’d never had a wipe while whacking the old loot pinata before, though I had had isolated DPS deaths, I’d never lost the tank. Nael had also tanked it on his pally (now 80) upwards of 15 times, again without issue.

The group formed, myself and Nael, a rogue we’d pugged it with before, a second rogue, and a mage. Should be an okay group, a little heavy on melee, but with all the DKs floating around it’s hardly unusual to have a mostly melee group. The faction champs came out: Lana the Poisoner-wench, Marshal Jacob the bladestorm-maniac, and Jaelyne the boring. Or usually boring. Not a bad group really… no self-healing Colosos, no sheeping-gnomeguy. Should be fine.

But we wiped. Splat! All over the floor. Neither Nael nor I had the slightest idea what had gone wrong… just poof, suddenly I was dead, without any aggro problems or any forewarning from DBM. And while prot pallies are prodigious survivors, it’s really too much when faced with bladestorm, poison, and a night elf who does… something.

After that the two rogues bailed and we replaced them with a guild member’s twinked out rogue alt who was only 75 but whose gear is so overcompensatory and who is so skilled that he puts out obscene dps in 80 instances on a regular basis. He may be a low level, but we know from experience that Hits can be counted on to not suck. We also recruited an 80 hunter from LFG.

Wipe.

Wipe.

By this point, Nael and I are sniping at each other, as it seems only an epic fail on the part of either healer or tank could be causing this failfest. I knew I wasn’t doing anything different than usual, so it must have been him, right? RIGHT? (he didn’t share my opinion, to put it mildly).

Hits was determined to keep going, so we slogged along anyway, and when the hunter D/C’d we kicked him and replaced him with a druid. With the druid’s extra poison dispels in the mix we managed to scrape past the faction champs by the skin of our teeth. I think I was literally panting by the end of the fight from the sheer effort of trying to keep people alive. In the end, only the druid and Nael survived, as I went down from a stray arrow at the very end being oom to heal myself.

So we moved on to Eadric. Easy fight, right? WRONG! We wiped within seconds to Eadric’s trash.

By this point we’re armorying everyone in the party… checking gear, checking specs. We’re scrutinizing the recount reports under a figurative microscope. We don’t see any problems with dps, with gear, with spec… we don’t see a pattern of somebody consistently getting aggro, of someone dying too much, of spreading out the heals to the detriment of the tank… Nothing. No lag. No addon spam. No macro issues. Why do we keep dying?!

I’m at the end of my rope, so I whisper Hits to say, “your dps looks fine and you’re not dying any more than anyone else… but could it be you? I’ve never had a problem in here before, and the only difference I can see is that this time we brought a 75…” Hits of course, being Hits, is full of confidence and does not think it is him. He asks that we try just one more time and if we fail again we can drop back to Halls of Lightning or something which we’ve already run with him and know we can manage.

I grit my teeth together, because I KNOW we can manage this.

The druid, however, doesn’t seem to agree though, since he resses outside the instance and promptly disappears. With only the four of us left, the mage blinks a few times and decides he’s got to go too.

Being extremely helpful and obliging guildies, and honestly, being driven to the point of despair by our fail, fail, FAILfest, we decide to be stubborn and finish the $^&#@ing instance at the cost of our lives if necessary. We pop back into LFG, pick up a couple of random death knights…

And one shot the rest of the instance.

Whaaaat??

The only thing we could think of, the single connecting factor for every single wipe was the mage. He was present for every wipe, he was present ONLY for wipes, and as soon as he left we stopped wiping and farmed the instance smoothly for the rest of the evening. But we have no idea what the mage was doing that sabotaged us so very badly.

It was a bad evening, and I’m still trying to figure out what I can do to prevent its recurrence… oh, and just to be the cherry on the suckage sundae… the Black Heart trinket that Nael was farming for dropped at the end of our run… and one of the DPS DKs ninja’d it.

So I got a tell the other night from one of the guilds I recently applied to. They turned me down at the time of the application because they had filled the position but apparently things didn’t work out. This = win. I have been on a downward slope with my guild for longer then I care to remember but I don’t think it was until Ulduar that I really started to notice being passed over for raid invites. On the day ToC was released I was passed over yet again and that broke the camels back for awhile. I had had it with clique groups where not all members of the guild are considered members of the guild. I stopped raiding for a month to cool off and come back fresh. Well this turned out to be ammunition for the GM to not invite me to even more raids when I came back. Not only was I behind on gear at this point (most the entire guild was well on their way to 4/5 piece Tier 9) but it took me a good 3 weeks of showing up for all 5 raid nights before I even was invited to one. The one saving grace during this period was the benevolent rule that waitlist DKP would receive full DKP for the night. As time went on my DKP grew and I saw more and more raids but it hasn’t been until this past week that I was actually chosen over other players…I made it into the top 25 raiders.

Still there were issues though. If we broke off into 2x 10 man groups I usually sat bench. Once when I bought a piece of gear that I clearly had the DKP for there was a long decision time between another raider and I. I knew it was rightfully mine according to DKP but the GM still wanted to decide if he could slip it to another raider. Another night while sitting idle in vent long after a raid, the GM was mocking another “alpha raider’s” dps for the night by comparing it to mine. I would like to think they didn’t realize I was listening but really I think they just didn’t care.

That was what killed this guild for me. They didn’t care. There was a lot of selfishness involved. It wasn’t even a guild really. It was a group of people that’s sole purpose was to support the guild leader. He would cherry pick his 10 man groups so that they would always have the greatest chance for success. His avatar on the guild forums was Joseph Stalin….I’m not joking. It was both as a joke and a true tribute to his role in the guild. If you’ve ever seen/heard the Moar DoTs video, my old GM was much like Dives(their GM) on that video. He never got quite as loud or quite as angry but I swear I would donate all of my gold to the orphans of Orgrimar if he would make it through a raid without cursing at someone failing him. I talked to my class lead about my situation and he was perfectly honest. You either have to deal with the way our GM runs things or find a new guild because he isn’t going to change. I had raided with these guys as far back as patch 1.12 so yeah…he ain’t changing and somehow I fell out of grace with no hope of return. After I /gquit, I got a tell from him that simply said “wtf did you quit for”.

WTF would you have to even have ask that question?

I have some new Least Favorite Things that I thought I would share with you, from my new perspective as a healer.

1. People who won’t run back after a wipe.

If I have to run, you have to run. Period. End of story. This is especially annoying when the non-runner is a resser himself. If you, Mr. Druid, Priest, Pally, or Shammy are too good to res me, then I am most certainly not going out of my way to res you. Why should I run back and then waste mana on ressing and healing your sorry butt? I’m not a mage anymore. Water ain’t free. And you can just forget putting my life in danger to res you, I wear plate too, with all the increased repair cost that brings. And I’m a lot squishier in it than I look. Nobody will be better off if we’re both dead, especially not me.

This came to a head in Underbog a week or two ago when I was still in Outland. I was running with a warrior tank and mostly melee DPS. The last boss in Underbog is at the end of a curved tunnel, and if you get out of his LOS he’ll stop aggroing you. So when the tank and all the DPS bit it, I bubbled and ran around the corner to get out of combat. Everyone ran back except the tank. So I grudgingly snuck around the corner and tried to res him. No good, the boss aggroed, the res was interrupted, and I barely made it back around the corner alive. He begged, he pleaded, he told me he’d let me know when it was safe to come back. I told him he could run or he could continue to eat floor, I wasn’t ressing him now or ever. He (finally) got the idea and ran.

2. Usurper Tanks

This didn’t bother me particularly when I was DPS. As long as somebody tanked I probably wouldn’t die. But as a healer, knowing who the tank is, and knowing that they’re specced for it is everything. And trying to coordinate with dethroned tanks has opened my eyes to how horribly disrespectful to the tank it is. If you sign up for a group as DPS you’d better stick to DPS. I don’t care if you think the tank is going too slow, or if you think that whole marking thing is a dinosaur in this age of AOE (I always request that the tank mark, I have to judge periodically to get a haste buff, so I like to be able to target something the tank actually has threat on, not just the adds chillin’ in his consecrate… and a nice fat skull makes it very very obvious).

This happened to us in UK the other day. Naelian happened to be tanking, which made the whole thing personal, but I’d have been upset on behalf of the tank no matter who it was. He had to go AFK for less than two minutes because his cat was hacking up a hairball on the rug, and while he was gone our DPS druid dropped into bear form and kept on going without him. Not cool DPS druid! He asked us to wait, he wasn’t gone longer than he said he’d be, and we waited for you when you went AFK earlier in Nexus! Not to mention, since you’re feral cat specced you’re very hard to heal compared to a plate-plated prot pally. When Naelian came back from AFK, the druid did not return to cat form, but instead kept running ahead and tanking. Grr! Naelian was annoyed, so he just stood there and didn’t fight at all (a fair response if you ask me). Finally I had to say: “Excuse me, I’m confused… as healer, I have to know who the tank is…” and the DPS druid sheepishly dropped back into his kitty suit and let Nael take over tanking again. But what he did was unbelievably rude.

3. Saving your butt, then being abandoned to die

This happens to me all the time in battlegrounds, and I hate it. It’s really fun to heal a lock through a long fight with a DK and win. It’s really not fun to heal a lock through a long fight with a DK until I’m OOM and the DK then notices me and comes to beat my face in. I just saved your ass, Mr. Destruction… I’m running on empty now and can’t save myself, help me! Oh wait, you’re running the other way? Damn, not again…

A delightful example of this was a warrior I kept on his feet during an Arathi Basin the other night. It was a long fight, and he and I were the only people at the Gold Mine. He had about three DKs and their minions running everywhere, and I managed to heal him right up to the very end, until the last DK noticed me and I got squooshed. The infuriating thing about it was seeing the warrior brag in /bg right as I went down that he’d just defended the Gold Mine all by himself. What do you think I was doing there, hmm? Picking my nose?

So, everybody, appreciate your healer.

Hallows end is in full swing now and all the little (and big) boys and girls of Azeroth are zipping about from tavern to tavern (is a tavern really a place for little boys and girls?) thrusting their grimy paws into huge pumpkins full of treats. Yummy! Think of where all those hands have been! All over Azeroth and Outland! Thats the goal of the Tricks and Treats of Azeroth achievement. Much like honoring the elders of the Lunar Festival and Igniting and extinguishing the flames from the Midsummer celebration, you must trek all over Azeroth and beyond to accomplish this task. How about we do it the easy way huh?

The easiest way to do this quest is to get yourself a map mod that supports waypoints and preferably one that supports a command line input for those waypoints. TomTom works great for this. Once installed, you can create waypoints one at a time by entering in the zone and coordinates, or you could simply copy these macros over and push one single button

The macros are broken down to fit within the current 255 character limit on a macro. Simply open up your macro creation screen (/macro), click new, pick a random icon and name it whatever you want (I used EK1, EK2, K1, K2, O1, O2). Paste in these waypoint blocks and you should see the TomTom dots fill your maps up. You don’t really need 6 macros though, you can keep overwriting the one. You are simply shortcutting the need to enter these waypoint strings one at a time. The data may be a tad off because I rounded some of the x/y coordinates. You can also set your in game tracking to find an innkeeper if these way points happen to be a tad off and you can’t find the inn.

Just noting quickly something I dug up in the most recent set of PTR patch notes, since I haven’t seen it anywhere else yet:

Weekly raid quests are now available from Archmage Lan’dalock in Dalaran. Every Tuesday at 3 AM the Council of Six will choose a different strategic target that must die from either: The Obsidian Sanctum, Naxxramas, The Eye of Eternity, Ulduar, Trial of the Crusader, or Icecrown Citadel.

The raid version of the daily heroic is coming soon. Seems like kind of an obvious change. It’s a potentially rewarding way to get people running Naxx (and other original WOTLK raids) again, and an interesting way of encouraging people to PuG raids. Will raiding guilds make an attempt to run the weekly, even if it’s not something they’re working on? Maybe. I think it’s likely that at least some guilds will keep their scheduled times for things they’d be running anyway and just free up their members to PuG whatever the weekly is if it’s not on the normal menu.

Probably won’t help puggers who don’t have fancy-pants achievements to link, as we’re already usually excluded even from daily heroic runs with gearsnots, but at least there’d be more PuGs going to Naxx. Haven’t seen too many lately.

What do you all think about Weekly Raid Quests?
