Motorcycles have had mass appeal to the general public for roughly a century and a half. An American named Sylvester Howard Roper designed one of the first motorcycles in the 1860s. MV-Augusta F4CC – $120,000

This expensive motorcycle was created by Claudio Castiglioni, MV’s director. He wanted to create a spectacular motorcycle that met strategic marketing needs while also being something truly special and unique. The expensive motorcycle bearing his very own initials “CC” has a top speed of 315 kph (195 mph), 1078 cc’s and a 198 hp engine. Each bike boasts a platinum plate located near the top of the steering column showing the model number from 1 to 100, making this motorcycle all the more special to its owners.

MTT Turbine SuperBike – $150,000

Not only is this motorcycle expensive, it’s also extremely fast. This bike, also known as the Y2K Turbine Superbike, is the Guinness World Record holder for the “Most Powerful Motorcycle Ever to Enter Series Production”. The turbine engine in this one is made by Rolls Royce and is capable of over 300hp. The motorcycle also boasts carbon fiber fairings, a rear mounted camera with LCD color display, forward-and rear-looking radar detector with laser scrambler, one touch “Smart Start” ignition, and many other cool gadgets. This bike seams to be pretty popular in Hollywood. It starred in the movie “Torque” and even Jay Leno owns one!

Icon Sheene – $160,000

This bike was created by Andrew Morris in honor of legendary British Grand Prix motorcycle champion Barry Sheene, who died in 2003 at the age of 52. As such, only 52 of these 250 hp, turbocharged 1400cc motorcycles will be created, each emblazoned with a playing card hand-painted by the same artist who painted Sheene’s helmets, Mike Fairholme. Each of these bikes will be bespoke, tailored to fit the purchaser’s unique requirements.

Macchia Nera concept bike – $201,000

Built around a Ducati 998RS engine, this motorcycle’s Italian designers and engineers set out to create an extremely high tech and expensive motorcycle that would be thought of as “the ultimate track bike” that is “simply beautiful and beautifully simple”. The Testastretta engine is fitted with lightweight metals and alloys, like titanium and aluminum, making it very lightweight. The view from the side of the Macchia Nera shows exposed belts and engine components, giving its design a minimalist feel while still being aesthetically pleasing. We should add that this bike is a one of a kind and not in produced for retail at this point, but if you have an extra 150,000 Euros (US $201,000) laying around for an expensive toy, your dream might come true.

Ecosse Titanium Series RR Limited Edition – $275,000

This luxury motorbike features a titanium chassis with clear coated carbon fiber bodywork and wheels. It features a fuel injected, intercooled, supercharged 2,150cc billet motor and is capable of over 200 hp. Its saddle is ergonomic and adjustable. The bike also comes with a timepiece, designed by French watchmakers BRM, which is made to match the bike and is engraved with the same serial number as the handlebar clamp and VIN plate. This bike is limited to only 10 units.

Dodge Tomahawk V10 Superbike – $555,000

This reproduction of Dodge’s concept bike is considered an “automotive sculpture,” as it is not street legal in the US. Ten of these bikes were offered by Neiman Marcus in their 2003 Christmas Book. The Dodge Tomahawk V10 superbike boasts an 8.3 liter engine (505 cubic inch), and the 10 cylinders can bring the bike to a maximum speed of almost 400 mph. The 1500lb bike has an independent 4-wheel suspension and can reach 60 mph in around 2.5 seconds.

In the morning September 11, 2001, two hijacked passenger jets crashed into the Twin Towers of the World Trade Center in New York City. This was no accident, but rather a series of attacks done by suicide bombers engaged with the Al-Qaeda terrorist group.

The attacks killed all the passengers on board the hijacked planes, and took away 2,974 innocent lives at the World Trade Center. More than 90 countries lost citizens in the attack, and the stock market was closed for a week.

Abu Ghraib:

Beginning in 2004, accounts of physical, psychological, and sexual abuse, including torture, rape, sodomy, and homicide of prisoners held in the Abu Ghraib prison in Iraq (also known as Baghdad Correctional Facility) came to public attention. These acts were committed by personnel of the 372nd Military Police Company of the United States Army together with additional US governmental agencies.

Bhopal India – Methyl Isocyanate Spill:

More than 40 tons of methyl isocyanate spilled from a Union Carbide-owned pesticide factory in Bhopal, India, in 1984, killing more than 20,000 people in the world’s worst chemical disaster.

After the spill, these skulls were researched, presumably for the specific effects the gas had on the brain, at the nearby Hamidia Hospital. The chemical injured not only the people who inhaled it, but also nearby animals (at least 2,000 of them) and trees, whose leaves went yellow and fell off within days.

Twenty-five years later, with people still claiming injury from the disaster yet little corrective action having been taken, the government of India has called for a study into the long-term effects of the spill.

Biafra:

When the Igbos of eastern Nigeria declared themselves independent in 1967, Nigeria blockaded their fledgling country-Biafra. In three years of war, more than one million people died, mainly of hunger. In famine, children who lack protein often get the disease kwashiorkor, which causes their muscles to waste away and their bellies to protrude.

Boston Fire:

On July 22, 1975, Stanley J. Forman was working in the newsroom of the Boston Herald American newspaper when a police scanner picked up an emergency: “Fire on Marlborough Street!” Forman rushed to the scene, where multiple fire crews were battling an intense blaze. There was a distress call for a ladder team to the rear of the building to help a stranded woman and child. Forman followed.

Buchenwald Camp:

In 1937, the Nazis constructed Buchenwald concentration camp, near Weimar, Germany. Placed over the camp’s main entrance gate, was the slogan Jedem das Seine (literally “to each his own”, but figuratively “everyone gets what he deserves”). The Nazis used Buchenwald until the camp’s liberation in 1945. From 1945 to 1950, the Soviet Union used the occupied camp as an NKVD special camp for Nazis and other Germans. On 6 January 1950, the Soviets handed over Buchenwald to the East German Ministry of Internal Affairs.

The SS left behind accounts of the number of prisoners and people coming to and leaving the camp, categorizing those leaving them by release, transfer, or death. These accounts are one of the sources of estimates for the number of deaths in Buchenwald. According to SS documents, 33,462 died in Buchenwald. These documents were not, however, necessarily accurate: Among those executed before 1944 many were listed as “transferred to the Gestapo”. Furthermore, from 1941 forward Soviet POWs were executed in mass killings. Arriving prisoners selected for execution were not entered into the camp register and therefore were not among the 33,462 dead listed in SS documents.

Burning Monk:

As a protest to the This Monk slow and unreliable reforms in Vietnam, the Buddhist monks have resorted to immolation, such as this Mahayana Buddhist monk, He burned himself alive across the outskirts of Saigon, mainly because of the harshness done by the South Vietnam government to his fellow Buddhist monks.

He was re-cremated after he burned himself; his heart meanwhile remained in one piece, and because of this he was regarded as a Bodhisattva by the other Buddhist monks and followers. His act of self-immolation increased the pressure on the Di?m administration to implement their reform laws in South Vietnam.

Execution Of a Viet Cong Guerrilla:

This picture was shot by Eddie Adams who won the Pulitzer prize with it. The picture shows Nguyen Ngoc Loan, South Vietnam’s national police chief executing a prisoner who was said to be a Viet Cong captain. Once again the public opinion was turned against the war.

Hector Pieterson:

Hector Pieterson an icon of 1976 Soweto uprising in apartheid South Africa. Dying Hector being carried by a fellow student. He was killed at the age of 12 when the police opened fire on protesting students. For years, June 16 stood as a symbol of resistance to the brutality of the apartheid government. Today, it is known as National Youth Day – a day on which South Africans honour young people and bring attention to their needs.

Lynching Of Young Blacks:

This is a famous picture, taken in 1930, showing the young black men accused of raping a Caucasian woman and killing her boyfriend, hanged by a mob of 10,000 white men. The mob took them by force from the county jail house. Another black man was left behind and ended up being saved from lynching. Even if lynching photos were designed to boost white supremacy, the tortured bodies and grotesquely happy crowds ended up revolting many.

Nagasaki Hiroshima Masroon Clouds:

This is the picture of the “mushroom cloud” showing the enormous quantity of energy. The first atomic bomb was released on August 6 in Hiroshima (Japan) and killed about 80,000 people. On August 9 another bomb was released above Nagasaki. The effects of the second bomb were even more devastating – 150,000 people were killed or injured. But the powerful wind, the extremely high temperature and radiation caused enormous long term damage.

Napalm Girl:

The photo shows Phan Thi Kim Phúc (a Vietnamese-Canadian) at about age nine running naked on the street after being severely burned on her back by a South Vietnamese napalm attack.

Nile Perch in Lake:

One of the 100 most invasive species in the world the Nile perch was introduced to East Africa’s Lake Victoria in the 1950s, and has wreaked environmental havoc ever since. It’s illegal to possess or sell in some parts of the world, and is thought to have caused the extinction or endangering of hundreds of native species in Lake Victoria.

After the fish eliminated much of the algae-eating population, the lake became choked with algae. The perch has also increased local demand for firewood, because their higher fat content drives people to smoke them rather than dry them. Adult perch can grow to weigh more than 440 pounds, and are fierce predators that feed on insects, crustaceans, and other fish-even those of its own species.

Sudanese child being stalked by a vulture nearby. It is quite obvious that the child was starving to death, while the vulture was patiently waiting for the toddler to die so he can have a good meal.

Nobody knows what happened to the child, who crawled his way to a United Nations food camp. Photographer Kevin Carter won a Pulitzer Prize for this shocking picture, but he eventually committed suicide three months after he took the shot.

Demulder stated at the time that she hated war, but felt compelled to document how it’s always the innocent who suffer, while the powerful get richer and richer.

Palm Oil Deforestation:

Indonesia is home to the world’s third largest tropical forest, but it’s disappearing quickly. Though often illegal, the forests are cut down both for a booming pulp and paper industry as well as to clear land for oil palm plantations, which supply diverse industries from biofuel to soap to cosmetics.

Because of deforestation, Indonesia is also the world’s third largest greenhouse gas contributor, behind only the U.S. and China; after the forest is cut down, the carbon normally sequestered in the peatland soil is no longer shielded from being released into the atmosphere.

Pollution and Power Lines:

China’s economy has exploded in recent years; so has its pollution problem, leaving no aspect of the country’s environment unaffected. Solid waste often lacks proper disposal, waterways have been polluted, and the air quality has plummeted, largely due to the coal-fired power plants that serve as the country’s primary source of energy.

Environmental degradation has gotten so bad that the Chinese government, which doesn’t easily take-or allow-criticism, has admitted that birth defects in the country have increased as a direct result of it, particularly in coal-producing regions like the north, where this picture was taken.

Second Largest Oil Spill Ever:

The Ixtoc I exploratory well suffered a blowout on June 3, 1979, in Mexico’s Bay of Campeche, 600 miles south of Texas. The well was not brought under control until the next year, by which time 140 million gallons had spilled into the bay. The only larger spill occurred during the 1991 Gulf War, when Iraq dumped-deliberately-up to 462 million gallons of oil into the Persian Gulf.

Sludge Kingston Tennessee:

More than 1 billion gallons of toxic sludge were released into a Tennessee community when a dam collapsed last December, causing a massive coal-ash spill at the Kingston Fossil Plant, a coal-burning power plant owned by the Tennessee Valley Authority.

Coal ash is known to contain dangerous elements including arsenic, lead, and selenium, yet the TVA refused at first to issue any health warnings about contamination from the spill. The agency, which weeks later admitted prior leak problems at the plant, also refused initially to declare as uninhabitable the houses in the area, like the one pictured here, that were physically relocated by all the sludge.

The American Bison:

A product of U.S. Army-sanctioned mass slaughter of American bison in the 1800s, these bison skulls are waiting to be ground for fertilizer, most likely in the American midwest. The slaughter was so “effective” that the population of bison in the U.S. is estimated to have dropped from around 60 million in 1800 to as few as 750 in 1890.

13 Year Old Boy Makes Friends with Killer Buffaloes |Killer Buffaloes|Daring teenage boy

To most South-Africans they are known as the “Black Death, but to 13-year-old Luke Michaelides, two wild African Buffalos have become his best friends. The African Buffalo is one of the “big five” African species credited with killing over 200 people every year, in South Africa alone. Some specimens grow up to 6 feet tall and 11 feet long, and can weigh up to 1,350 kg. They can easily rip apart a full grown man, let alone a 13-year-old, but that hasn’t stop Luke from becoming friends with “Hop-a-long” and her offspring “Skip-a-long”.

Their incredible friendship started developing at the turn of the year, when Luke saw the two buffaloes looking all sad and alone, in the middle of his parents’ farm, in Limpopo. He decided to get a little closer, to keep them company. Aware of the fierce reputation of the “Black Death”, he kept his distance, at first, and spoke to them, calmly. Luke began visiting Hop-a-long and Skip-a-long, daily, getting closer to them with each day, bringing them food and water, and talking to them. One day, they looked so peaceful that he decided to touch them. Now their friendship has evolved so much that he is able to give them scrub baths and lie on as he watches the sun go down.

Although they realize how special their son’s relationship to the African buffaloes is, Luke Michaelides’ parents say they are terrified each time they see him going towards them, and his mother says a prayer so the Lord keeps him safe. Luke himself is aware of the danger he exposes himself to every day, but he loves his friends so much he can’t stand away from them for too long.

Luke Michaelides is currently working on a book on the African Buffalo, things he has observed in the nine months he spent so close to them, and the way he managed to gain their trust and become such a close friend.

Largest warships, aircraft carriers, is owned by the United States Navy. USS Enterprise is the largest carrier of the Nimitz class. This Nimitz class super carrier is equipped with the respective 2 nuclear reactors created by Westinghouse that drive 4 steam turbine that connected to 4 propeller shafts. the turbine engine produces 260.000 horsepower that can drive ships with a speed of 30 + knots. By this means the ship’s nuclear reactor was not necessary to be “filled” for 20 years. Berge Stahl is registered in Stavanger, Norway. This vessel previously registered in Monrovia, Liberia. This ship was built in 1986 by Hyundai Heavy Industries. This ship is now owned by Singapore company BW Group. Because of its large size, this ship can only be fully docked at two ports in the world, the Terminal Maritimo de Ponta da Madeira in Brazil and the Europoort near Rotterdam in the Netherlands.

The biggest container ship is owned by the container Ship company Maersk Group. The ship is named EMMA Maersk, and it’s the largest container ship that has been operated. This ship is capable of containing nearly 11.000 TEU’s (Twenty feet Equivalent Units), not less than 1.400 container more than the ability of other ships. That’s according to the stability limit of the vessel in accordance with company policy, with assuming the weight per container is 14 tons. But this ship is basically designed to contain 14.500 TEU’s. The ship was built by Odense Steel Shipyard Danish in 2006. There is an interesting fact when the ship was being built. There was a large fire broke out on accommodation deck and bridge deck which caused much damage. But everything could be repaired quickly and the vessels were completed on time. If you suffer from arachnophobia this probably is not the place for you. You had better stay away from this former stock exchange building in Vienna where you might get entangled in the world’s largest spider web ever spun.
You might, however, be surprised to know that this giant spider web has not been spun by any spider. It is the handiwork of humans like us. Amazing, yet very true. The idea behind the construction of the whole structure was a dance performance. The web form evolves from the movement of dancers between the pillars. The dancers stretch the tape as they move, resulting in the formation of the web like creation. The choreography recording results in the final shape.

The spider web formation has been given shape by the designing firm known as numen/for use. The efforts of three people spread over a period of five days resulted in the creation of this awe-inspiring piece of work. In a period of 120 hours, 270 rolls of adhesive tape were used which measured 14480 meters and weighed 30 kilograms.

Giving shape to a structure as magnificent as this was not an easy task. Rolls and rolls of adhesive tape were wound around the various pillars of the hall to create the basic structure. Over this basic structure, additional rolls of tape were wound over and over again giving it the final shape. Hanging in mid air, the structure is so strong that is could easily support an average tree house.

The strength of this massive spider web is not difficult to believe based on the fact that adhesive tape is the only material used in its creation. Adhesive tapes have a pressure sensitive material coated on a plastic film. These tapes are normally resistant to weathering, sunlight, aging and have withstood numerous strength tests over time. When such tapes are laid layer upon layer, the weight bearing capacity increases massively. This is exactly what has happened here.

The hollow routes created inside the web can comfortably allow people to walk or crawl through them. Enter the world of a spider. For the first time in the history of man, someone will be able to enter a spider web, walk through it and come out unharmed. Or shall we say, emerge with a whole new experience. This is a must see for all who can make it to the venue. For those who cannot, do make it a point to view the pictures. One cannot afford to miss something as wonderful as this.

	Yamaha This global Japanese company manufactures and sells a range of products including motorcycles, boats and boat engines, snow mobile and golf karts, and music instruments and audio equipment, as well as robots and computers. The business was created in 1887 in Hamamatsu, Japan. When it was first opened, Yamaha initially repaired musical instruments prior to manufacturing its own organs in 1889. Further on from this, the company created "Nippon Gakki Seizo Kabushiki Kaisha" which literally translated to "Japanese music instruments corporation." The logo of the company is representative of a light that has three crossed tuning forks. This is indicative of inventor Torakusu Yamaha's restoration of musical instruments.

Winter Games 2010 Logo

The logo for the 2010 Vancouver Winter Olympics was presented to the public in April 2005. It was designed by Vancouver resident Elena Rivera MacGregor. The logoâ€™s name - Ilanaaq the Inukshuk. It was chosen from 1,600 entries. Ilanaaq means â€œfriendâ€ in Inuktitut, the traditional language of the Inuit (also known as Eskimos). It is one of three languages spoken in Nunavut, Canada, which in 1992 became a self-autonomous region of the country. Inukshuk refers to guiding stone markers that Inuits use when exploring the Arctic. The logo was viewed by many as a friendly and welcoming symbol, which is what the Olympics have come to signify, and which, by extension, seemed to be the most appropriate for Canada. There are five separate stones in five colors: blue and green symbolise Canadaâ€™s west coast region, mountains and rivers. The red stone symbolises the Maple Leaf, Canadaâ€™s flag, and the gold (yellow) signifies the sun that shines on Vancouverâ€™s downtown area and surrounding mountain ranges. Note the green stone that is shaped like a smile echoing the meaning of Ilanaaq - friend. The emblem means that all stones need each other to convey strength and support. One of the judges said, it was a logo that: (a) had appeal with young people; (b) represented the Canadian personality accurately; and (c) the message of the symbol seemed to be saying, hereâ€™s the way to the finish line. The Olympics logo itself has five interlocking rings designed by the founder of the Olympic Games, Pierre de Coubertin in 1913. The five rings, first introduced in Belgium, represent the five continents. Coubertin explained, the emblem chosen to illustrate and represent the world Congress of 1914, five intertwined rings in different colours - blue, yellow, black, green, red - are placed on the white field of the paper. These five rings represent the five parts of the world which now are won over to Olympism and willing to accept healthy competition. The rings are permanent symbols but countries hosting individual games can come up with their own emblem provided the five rings are included.

The company began to come into prominence by 1959 with the foundation of the first paper photocopier using the technique invented by Chester Carlson. Development of digital photocopiers and a revamp of the entire product range in the 1990s, gave Xerox a technical lead over its competitors. In 1961 Lippincott designed the original Xerox logo after the company had dropped the Haloid from its name. Chermayeff & Geismar updated the block-capital-letter XEROX wordmark seven years later. The logo changed to red in 1994 and Landor introduced a corporate signature along with the digital X to symbolize the transition of documents between digital worlds and the paper. The logo emphasized the wordmark "Document Company" since that was the original focus of the company, which manufactured and sold multifunction systems, color and black-and-white printers, digital production printing presses, photo copiers and related services. "The Document Company" signature disappeared in 2004. Four years later in 2008, Xerox tried to get away from the "the copier company" image and redesigned the Xerox corporate logo. The new identity, designed by Interbrand was created to represent the connection to partners, customers, industry and innovation. Some early reviewers feel that this logo is not a notable improvement and that it looks like a Beach Ball or peppermint candy. Come to think of it, it does take your mind off of "the copier company". But not with good thoughts.

The origins of the company date back to 1930s Nazi Germany. Long before Hitler was elected to power in Germany, he was creating schemes to mass-produce an affordable car. Hitler called the new vehicle the "KdF-Wagen", which literally meant "strength through joy - car", after the Nazi-led KdF movement that was supposed to look after the working people. Ferdinand Porsche disliked the name KdF-Wagen (he preferred Volkswagen, the name under which the car had been produced). "Volkswagen" signifies "people's car" in German, in which it is pronounced ['folksvagan]. Volkswagen has one of the most simple and instantly recognizable logos in the world, which has seen subtle changes through the years. 	SterlingSavings Bank This is the logo of the very first German savings bank, formed in 1778 in Hamburg. Soon after this first branch opened, additional branches were also opened in further establishments in Oldenburg, Kiel, Altona and Baden-Wuerttemberg. The logo was initially put into use in 1925 and first depicted a face. The eyes were used to form the letters of D and G. In 1948, a new logo was developed as a result of the work of an experienced poster artist Lois Gaigg, where he used the S symbol for the first time. This S symbol has been further used in the most recent iteration by designer Otl Aicher. It is considered that popular opinion is that the newer logo looks like an upside down question mark.

	Stussy Logo The world famous Stussy logo is highly connected with the 80's generation of new wave beach culture. By 1980, a Californian cult surfboard shaper named Shawn Stussy decided to apply his scribbled signature logo on t-shirts that he traded along with his boards. Soon after, the clothing line extended and its modern and raw esthetic developed into an international streetwear label. Being influenced by the ideas of fashion and culture that emerged along with the changes that were made in the music scene, Stussy managed to win success. His clothing was inspired by skaters, DJ's, musicians and artists with similar tastes. Stussy exists today as a brand with worldwide independence and respect and continues to be a leader in beach culture.

	Superman Logo The story of the world famous Superman logo carries overtones of history, science and arts. Jerry Siegel was the man who came with the idea of Superman and than showed the story to his friend Shuster, an aspiring artist. The symbol "S" which was used to create the logo has a lot of meaning within the bounds of American culture. "S" stands for Superman, Stopping Crime, Saving Lives, Super-Aid, but it also represents the symbol of Superman's family house on Krypton. It is important to pay more attention on to the elements of the logo, which are often ignored. The two colors of the logo bear a deep meaning. Red and yellow are the colors of RAO ( the sun-god of Krypton) and SOL refers to sunlight. On the cover of Superman 4, April 1940 the Superman logo has a black background. However, in June 1940 the studio decides to change the logo into a larger 5 sided pentagon, easier to draw and color. This new version is first drawn by Wayne Boring. Paul Cassidy would later create a new design using a larger S, tightly slammed against the shield border. Today, in spite of all the changes the logo has suffered throughout time, its fundamental details remain mostly unchanged.

	Tchibo Business Logo This internationally renowned brand was created in 1949 by Carl Tchilling Hiryan, who initially sent a parcel of roasted coffee beans through the post to a customer. Following on from quick success, between 1995 through to now, the business has more than 850 sales branches where coffee products are offered for sale. The logo and business name is abbreviated from "Tchilling Hiryan" and the word "bean" - making the word "Tchibo."

	Texaco Logo Design Texaco is an American oil retail brand that provides quality gasoline and is a leader in the market in performance. Texaco is known today as one of the most iconic brands around the globe. The company's original five-pointed star logo design was created in 1903. The first trademarked logo, designed in 1909, featured a red star (a reference to the lone star of Texas), leading to the advertising jingles "You can trust your car to the man who wears the star", and a green T which all over the world, means superior quality. The Star Symbol and Texaco Logotype are Texaco's major retail brand identifiers. The trademarked logo design was created by Romeo Miglietta who based his design on the colors that embellished the Italian flag. The Texaco logo was updated in 1913 and a 42-inch double-faced sign was introduced. In 1963, with the launching of the company's first corporate identification system, the circle was replaced by a hexagon. The company introduced the streamlined star symbol in 1981 along with the new System 2000 stations. Texaco updated its corporate identity in 2000, after deciding that the star symbol no longer needed the wording Texaco below it.

Over time, the focus of the company moved to the production of transistors and other instruments, which is why the company became Texas Instruments in 1951. zzzzz	Three M Business Identity This innovative and ground-breaking American company was the brain child of five successful business men in 1902. The men initially formed the "Minnesota Mining and Manufacturing Co." and, when mining showed little promise of offering them a return, they looked for further opportunities. After stumbling around looking for new products potential one of the owners coincidentally came about the idea of sandpaper. Other ingenious ideas by this company include Scotch tape and Post-it notes.Some say that 'simple is smart.' That's been one of the keys to the success of the 3M logo. 3M Red is a bold, vibrant color that makes the logo recognizable and unforgettable. Trough the time the 3M logo has gained awareness and familiarity in every corner of the world; it has become a symbol for innovative, trustworthy products and services. But it wasn't always that simple. The three "M"s come from the "Minnesota Mining & Manufacturing Company." Through the first 50 years of the company's life, logos transformed rapidly. The first appeared in 1906. Its design was complex: The company's full name and its headquarters (Duluth, Minn.) surrounded a diamond containing the term "3M Co." After this version the logo went through many changes in some cases, the oval being completely abandoned for a plain stand- alone 3M. An important phase in 3M logo evolution began in the 60's when the company hired Gerald Stahl & Associates, a New York design firm, to create a definitive logo that would connect the corporation and all its business units under a single sign. The result was a boxy, 3M with a distinctly industrial look. Things changed in the 70's as the company's focus were no longer the industrial abrasives and tapes but products for commercial and consumer markets. The result was the new 3M logo 'simple and smart': red 3 and M touching one another. The new, vibrant logo caught on like wildfire.

	ThyssenKrupp logo The current day logo of ThyssenKrupp represents the merger of the two steel dynasties of the families Krupp and Thyssen. During 1811, the two partners built a factory for casting steel of English quality. They worked together and independently, including in 1871 when Thyssen left the business, in order to produce strap iron work. After many years and turbulent times including the Second World War, both companies continued to work together. A new logo was introduced in 1920 and was based on a circle, polygon and letter combinations. From the initial letter a "subtle T" was developed to combine with the traditional characters of the two businesses that had merged. Discussions of the managers in 1976 saw the introduction of a new logo that contained the Rhine steel elbow that you see now. This was designed to be used as a uniform symbol for the entire business and was deemed to be the "yellow signature." As the business progressed, the "yellow signature" was replaced "by the blue signature" but the colors of blue and yellow were selected as the corporate colors for the business. Introduced in 1875, the three rings represent the time that Alfred Krupps invented the forged and rolled railway wheel tire, which was patented and trade marked in 1853 in Prussia. The manufacture involved three layers positioned on top of each other. The law around trademark protection in 1874 gave Krupp the permission to develop its own logo at which time a selection of drafts were made. Hence this three ring character in a pyramid shape is interpreted as wheel tires of railway wheels and was first used in 1875. 1994 saw the end of the logo in its original form, and at that point a more modern version using black rings came into play. This new logo is not intended to replace but instead combine all of the previous facets of the logo in all its iterations. All employees of the company were recently asked to make suggestions for the development of the logo and more than 5,000 suggestions were supplied. This gave the company a strong indication of the level of commitment from its workforce.

	Toyota corporate logo The Toyota logo, like the company, is widely recognized for its originality and simplicity. It has become a symbol of pioneering automotive and non-automotive products and services. The Toyota logo bears a meaningful visual identity with strong visual impact. It symbolizes the energetic transition of the company from a family business to the expansion of a worldwide company. In 1936, when Toyoda Automatic Loom Works Ltd. was launching its first passenger car, it needed a new trademark to celebrate the launch. For that purpose, a competition was held to establish a logo that would promote the company's vehicles. The design requirement of the company was to create something that will express 'the feeling of speed'. Thus, the winning logo resulted in the change of the name from 'Toyoda' to 'Toyota'. This was as the Japanese lettering of 'Toyota' gave the logo a smooth look and was also chosen because in the Japanese word 'Toyota' (eight) was considered to bring luck and prosperity. Although no longer used on products, the original Toyota logo is still used as the company's emblem. The current Toyota logo consists of three ovals: two perpendicular center ovals making a stylized "T" for Toyota and one around them symbolizing the global expansion of Toyota's technology and unlimited potential for the future.
