We were formerly known as the Essex Fertility Centre Established in 1989.

We are the new Herts & Essex Fertility Centre based at Bishops' College in Cheshunt, Hertfordshire (just 20 minutes from our old location).

Our new premises has a state of the art laboratory far exceeding EU requirements, a sophisticated Air Plant to provide an optimal environment for embryo development and storage, and a Cryogenic laboratory with the latest monitors and alarms for the storage and security of frozen embryos and gametes.

Our aim is to provide a first class fertility service, tailored to suit individual needs and delivered in a professional and caring manner.

IVF Treatments

IVF is a process by which eggs are fertilised in the laboratory and transferred into the uterus as cleaving embryos 48-72 hours later.

IVF was originally designed for women with absent, blocked or severely damaged fallopian tubes where natural conception was unlikely to occur. Now, other fertility problems such as unexplained infertility, endometriosis, male factor infertility, cervical mucus hostility and Polycystic Ovarian Syndrome (POS) are also helped by IVF. IVF is an integral part of the ICSI and Egg Donation Program.

Intra Cytoplasmic Sperm Injection (ICSI)

ICSI is a procedure used for the treatment of male factor infertility. It involves the injection of a single live sperm directly into the egg using a very fine glass needle under high power microscope.

In standard IVF, eggs and sperm are mixed together in a Petri herefore employed to circumvent the problem of poor sperm penetration.

Embryo Transfer

Embryo transfer is the process by which developing embryos are transferred into the uterus 2-5 days after egg collection. It is a simple procedure which generally requires no special preparation or anaesthesia, and is similar to a cervical smear test. Before the embryo transfer, the embryologist will discuss with you the number of embryos you wish to be transferred.

You and your partner will have the opportunity to see your embryos on a monitor linked to the laboratory microscope prior to the transfer. We encourage a very relaxed approach to embryo transfer offering you the chance to bring your own music on a CD, and your husband/partner is encouraged to be with you throughout the procedure. The best embryos will be selected for transfer.
