I miei ristoranti preferiti a Limone sul Garda

Ci sono due ristoranti a Limone sul Garda che ho amato e che mi sento di consigliare.

Entrambi godono di una location deliziosa sul lago.

Entrambi offrono specialità nazionali e limonesi con pesce del lago.

Per entrambi consiglio la prenotazione.

Ristorante Monte Baldo

Il ristorante Monte Baldo si trova all'interno dell'omonimo hotel nel centro storico di Limone ed offre due locali distinti: un wine bar al piano terra e il ristante più formale al primo piano,noi abbiamo cenato in quest'ultimo.

Nel ristorante al primo piano, oltre ai classici tavoli all'interno, ci sono 3 tavolini su un piccolo balconcino affacciato sul piccolo porticciolo e sul lago. Noi abbiamo avuto la fortuna di cenare proprio in uno di quei tavoli e lo abbiamo molto apprezzato . Consiglio, quando prenoti verifica se i tavolini sul balconcino sono disponibili e,se lo sono, non farti scappare questa opportunità!

Il ristorante Monte Baldo propone una cucina limonese rivisitata e piatti nazionali. I piatti sono caratterizzati dall'uso dell'olio autoctono di produzione locale. Lo stesso olio viene portato insieme al pane per fare delle mini bruschette durante l'attesa dei piatti.

Ristorante Gemma

Anche il ristorante Gemma si trova nel centro storico di Limone direttamente sul lago.

Propone una cucina varia con proposte nazionali e della tradizione locale.

Fa parte del ristorante anche un bar dove si possono fare aperitivi o delle merende. Io ho scoperto in questo bar Eis Kaffee , una coppa con caffè, gelato alla vaniglia e panna montata BUONISSIMA, che ho accompagnato ad una torta di mele 😋😋😋.

Afternoon Tea a Manchester

Il miglior afternoon tea a Manchester, e di tutto il mio recente viaggio in Inghilterra, l'ho provato al Cloud 23.

Siamo al 23° piano dell'Hilton Deansgate da cui si gode una vista mozzafiato della città.

Il costo base è di £ 35,00 con la possibilità di avere piatti vegetariani e vegani e di aggiungere cocktails e champagne.

Il delizioso menù include proposte salate, dolci, gli immancabili scones e tè illimitato.

Prenotazione consigliata.

Black Country Living Museum

Il Black Country Living Museum si trova a Dudley, poco fuori Birmingham, da cui si può raggiungere con un veloce viaggio in treno.

E' un enorme museo all'aperto che ricostruisce un'autentica cittadina vittoriana e industriale, coprendo oltre 250 anni di storia grazie a più di 80 edifici storici fedelmente riassemblati sul posto.

Il villaggio è abitato da figuranti in costume d'epoca che interpretano ex minatori,ferrovieri e negozianti e raccontano la vita all'epoca della rivoluzione industriale.

I fan dei Peaky Blinders non possono non visitarlo, dato che tantissime scene della serie sono state girate qui.

Il consiglio in più per risparmiare: Se arrivate a Dudley in treno con la National Rail, potete ottenere ben 1/3 di sconto sul biglietto d'ingresso del museo! Per approfittarne, vi basta richiedere il voucher sul sito di Days Out Guide prima della vostra visita.

LONDRA INSOLITA

Se, come me, sei già stata a Londra diverse volte e hai voglia di fare nuove scoperte questo post giunge in tuo aiuto.

Sky Garden

Lo Sky Garden si trova al 37 piano dell'edificio Walkie Talkie uno degli edifici più alti di Londra. Da qui potrai godere di una vista mozzafiato di Londra a 360° e di un giardino con piante di diversi continenti.

L'accesso allo Sky Garden è gratuito ma è obbligatoria la prenotazione. Sul sito vengono aperte le prenotazioni per le 3 settimane successive, quindi ti consiglio di tenerlo monitorato per non perdere la possibilità di prenotare. Se invece hai una prenotazione per il ristorante non hai bisogno del biglietto di accesso separato. L'accesso allo Sky Garden è possibile solo nel giorno e nell'orario indicati sul biglietto.

Afternoon Tea

Se non hai mai provato l'afternoon tea ti consiglio caldamente di fare questa esperienza. Io ne sono diventata dipendente e adesso lo faccio ovunque mi trovi nel mondo 😅.

A Londra c'è ovviamente l'imbarazzo delle scelta. Aspettati di spendere intorno alle 50 £ a persona in base al posto. Cosa aspettarti dall'afternoon tea ? Un'alzatina di 3 piani composta da prelibatezze dolci e salati e dagli immancabili scones da accompagnare a marmellate e burro; e ovviamente tè caldo a volontà. Gli scones sono dei deliziosi panini dolci morbidi 😋. Diverse strutture prevedono la possibilità di aggiungere (a pagamento o non, dipende dalla struttura) un calice di champagne o un drink analcolico.

Non essendo questo il mo primo afternoon tea , non mi sento di pubblicizzare il posto dove l'abbiamo preso questa volta perchè ritengo ce ne siano di migliori in città. Inserisco comunque qualche foto per farti capire di cosa sto parlando.

Musical

Un viaggio a Londra, a mio avviso, non può dirsi completo senza aver visto un musical. Ce ne sono tantissimi per tutti i gusti. Noi questa volta abbiamo optato per Back to the future the musical, il musical tratto dal film Ritorno al futuro. Davvero bello, con effetti speciali unici!

Le statue di Leicester Square

Nella piazza di Leicester Square vai alla ricerca delle statue dei personaggi inglesi di film e cartoni intramontabili. Mary Poppins, l'orso Paddington, Mr. Bean e tanti altri e se guardi in alto troverai anche Batman che veglia sulla piazza (anche se non è un personaggio tipicamente inglese 😅).

Se sei un fan dell'orsetto Paddington, trovi altre 2 statue dedicate a lui nella stazione dei treni di Paddington (Paddington Train Station). Segui le sue impronte e lo troverai 😙.

Little Venice

Che bella little Venice e che pace , sembra di essere lontanissimi dalla città invece little Venice si trova a due passi da Paddington train station. Il nome è ovviamente simbolico, non aspettarti la magnificenza di Venezia. Quello che troverai sono tante house boat lungo il canale. Da qui puoi anche imbarcarti su una mini crociera lungo i canali fino a Camden Town. Ti consiglio di fare anche una passeggiata nel quartiere residenziale alle spalle della metropolitana con i suoi bellissimi edifici bianchi.

Drink in uno speakeasy

Questa è stata decisamente una delle esperienze più divertenti di questo viaggio a Londra.
Noi siamo stati al Mayor of scared cat town ubicato nei sotterranei del The Breakfast Club. L'ingresso è su prenotazione e per accedere serve una parola d'ordine. Dopo di che l'ingresso avviene attraverso un frigorifero gigante, sì hai capito bene !!! Il locale è piccolo ed arridato a tema gatti (ovviamente). I cocktail sono deliziosi ed alcuni molto particolari. Ad esempio, quello che ho ordinato io è arrivato decorato da una nuvola di zucchero filato rosa!!! E' possibile anche mangiare qualcosa, più stuzzichini che una cena vera e propria.

Mangiare fish & chips in un pub storico il Mayflower .

Il Mayflower Celebre pub famoso per l'atmosfera autentica del XVII secolo. Costruito sul fiume da cui si gode una bellissima vista sul Tower Bridge. Deve il nome alla nave Mayflower che qui ormeggio nel 1620 prima di portare i padri pellegrini nelle Americhe.

Ecco cosa lo rende unico:

- Si ritiene che sia il più antico pub sulle rive del Tamigi, con origini che risalgono al 1550-1620

- È l'unico pub nel Regno Unito autorizzato a vendere francobolli sia britannici che americani, a causa del suo legame storico con la partenza della nave Mayflower.

- Ospita un libro dei discendenti per i visitatori che possono dimostrare un legame familiare con le persone a bordo della Mayflower nel 1620.

E per finire qualche suggerimento:

- Se arrivi all'aeroporto Heathrow e hai prenotato il volo con largo anticipo puoi trovare il biglietto dell'Heathrow Express scontato. Noi l'abbiamo acquistato un mese prima del viaggio e abbiamo trovato il biglietto a 20 £ a persona contro le 35£, che è il prezzo regolare. In questo modo il viaggio ci è costato anche meno che quello con l'Elizabeth Line garantendoci di arrivare alla stazione dei treni di Paddington in 15 minuti, contro i 45 minuti dell'Elizabeth line. Tenendo anche conto che l'Heathrow Express non fa fermate intermedie, cosa che l'Elizabeth Line essendo una linea della metropolitana fa, evitantoci lo stress di non sapere dove mettere le valigie in caso di vagoni pieni.

- Non acquistare la Oyster card per la metropolitana. Per attivarla devi pagare 7£ che servono solo per l'attivazione, quindi sostanzialmente le perdi. Al suo posto, utilizza una qualunque carta (di debito o credito) contactless. Il sistema applica in automatico un tetto massimo giornaliero di 8,90 £ , i viaggi successivi nella stessa giornata sono gratuiti. Ti sconsiglio di fare i biglietti cartacei, il costo del biglietto quasi raddoppia rispetto al pagamento con carta.

- Da alcuni anni ilo Regno Unito ha sostituito le banconote. Se hai viaggiato molti anni fa e ti sono rimaste delle banconote non sono inutilizzabili inquanto puoi fartele sostituire con banconote nuove negli uffici postali o presso la bank of England. Attenzione però, mentre la bank of England è obbligata a cambiare le banconote, gli uffici postali non lo sono. Il mio consiglio è, se hai un ufficio postale vicino all'hotel prova lì e se non te li cambiano puoi andare alla bank of England. Controlla bene gli orari ed i giorni di operatività perchè la bank of England ha aperture al pubblico abbastanza liimitate. Io avevo 50£ "avanzate" da un viaggio precedente, ho cambiato 40£ presso un ufficio postale vicino all'hotel e le restanti 10£ che all'ufficio postale non hanno cambiato perchè erano macchiate le ho cambiate alla bank of England. Purtroppo questo non si applica alle monete. Anche le monete sono state sostituite ma non si possono cambiare, possono solo venire accreditate su un conto corrente inglese, oppure puoi metterle nelle scatoline delle offerte delle associazioni caritatevoli.

- Per entrare nel Regno Unito dovrai fare la ETA.

- Noi abbiamo alloggiato al Point A Paddington che consiglio. L'hotel è a pochi minuti a piedi dalla stazione di Paddington. Prenotando direttamente dal sito dell'hotel otterrai uno sconto del 10% e la colazione gratuita. Ho prenotato in questo hotel perchè a differenza degli altri nella zona, da la possibilità di scegliere tra stanze con o senza finestra . A Londra nella zona del centro è frequente trovare hotels con stanze senza finestre perchè costruiti all'interno di vecchi palazzi. Le stanze sono piccoline ma è normale per Londra. Ti consiglio di prenotare la stanza di 14 mq anzichè la standard di 10 mq, quei mq in più ti consentiranno di muoverti un pò meglio.

Sopravvalutati:

- Camden Market: sono finiti i giorni in cui Camden era piena di negozietti unici. Adesso trovi solo negozi di souvenir e abbigliamento banalotto. Il lungo viaggio in metro non vale la pena.

- St. Dunstan in the East Church Garden: guardando le foto online sembra di essere in Vietnam in mezzo alle rovine della chiesa circondate da fitta boscaia. Dal vivo non è niente di tutto ciò. E' un semplice giardinetto piccolo attorno a quello che resta di una chiesa. Tralasciabile senza sensi colpa.

DINTORNI DI LIONE : PEROUGES

Città medievale fortificata, Pérouges si inserisce nella classifica dei più bei villaggi di Francia.

Secondo una leggenda, Pérouges fu fondata da un gruppo di Galli di ritorno dalla città di Perugia in Italia.

Ben conservato il villaggio è servito da set per numerosi film tra cui i Tre Moschettieri.

Da provare les Gallettes de Pérouges, esteticamente sembra una pizza ma è un dolce buonissimo fatto con pan brioche, burro e zucchero 😋😋😋.

Da Lione ci sono treni ogni ora per Pérouges ed impiegano 50 minuti.

La fermata è Meximieux-Pérouges.

La distanza dalla stazione alla città medievale è di 1,5 km quasi tutti in salita ma fattibili.

Sicuramente la cucina di Lione non è leggera. Qui trovi un elenco dei piatti tipici e dove mangiarli.

Andouillette: salsiccia di intestino e stomaco di maiale

Sabodet: cotechino

3 tipi di salami tipici: rosettess, fatto con le zampe del maiale, le cervelas e le jesus

Salade lyonnaise con cardi,cipolle gratinate, uovo e fegato di pollo

Quenelle : un grosso gnocco in crema di pesce (de brochet) o di carne

Tablier de Sapeur: trippa fritta, esteticamente ricorda la cotoletta alla milanese

Boudin aux pommes: sanguinaccio con le mele

Formaggi: Cervelle de canuts (non spaventarti dal nome, il cervello non c'entra 😁),

Saint Marcellin, il mio preferito 😋, Saint Félicien e Rigotte de Condrieu

Saucisson Brioché: salsiccia dentro ad una brioche

Gratin de Cardons: cardi gratinati

I dolci, tutti DELIZIOSI 😋:

Tarte Praline : una specie di crostata di Praline de Lyon

Coussin de Lyon: piccoli dolcetti di pasta di mandorle di colore verde con ripieno di ganache al cioccolato e curaçao

Matefaim (letteralmente ammazza fame): sono le crepes

Al Café des Fédérations potrai assaggiare tante specialità di Lione. Il menù è a prezzo fisso e prevede un pre antipasto (oeuf meurette), 3 antipasto Caviar de la Croix Rouse (che non è il caviale russo ma sono lenticchie condite), Salade Lyonnaise e Saucisson Brioché, un primo piatto a scelta tra 8 proposte, 1 porzione di formaggio Saint Marcellin ed 1 porzione di Cervelle de Canuts, 1 Dessert a scelta tra 6 proposte, tra cui la tarte aux pralines .

Le porzioni sono abbondanti e l'ambiente è conviviale , tipico delle osterie.

Ti consiglio di prenotare perchè il ristorante fa solo un turno ed è sempre pieno.

Per quanto riguarda i dolci ti consiglio Voisin, ci sono negozi sparsi un pò ovunque in città, dove puoi acquistare una confezione composta da Coussins de Lyon, Pralines de Lyon ed una versione dolce della famosa Quenelle.

Sempre da Voisin ti consiglio il Sablè Fourré à la Praline de Lyon.

COSA FARE A LIONE, FRANCIA

Che bella sorpresa Lione, mi è piaciuta davvero tanto e spero con questo articolo di animarti a fare un viaggio in questa bellissima città.

Le zone turistiche di Lione sono principalmente 3:

- Croix Rousse, quartiere operaio dove si trovavano le fabbriche di seta di cui Lione è ancora famosa nel mondo

- Fourvière, detta la collina che prega, con la basilica che domina dall'alto della collina la città ed ai piedi della collina il quartiere medievale di Vieux Lyon e diversi bouchons (ristoranti tipici)

- Presqu'ile, penisola bagnata da una parte dal fiume Saona e dall'altra dal fiume Rodano, dove si trovano diverse vie dello shopping, monumenti ed alcuni bouchons

Lione è famosa per i murales, gironzolando per la città ne vedrai tantissimi

Ci sono 2 murales da non perdere: Mur des Canuts e Fresque des Lyonais.

Mur des Canuts si trova nel quartiere Croix Rousse è un'opera di oltre 1000 mq ed è il murale più grande d'Europa . E' spettacolare!!! E' così ben fatto che quando arrivi non ti rendi conto che l'intera facciata sia completamente dipinta , devi osservarlo più e più volte per capire bene ogni dettaglio. Ancora adesso quando guardo le foto mi stupisco trovando nuovi dettagli 😊.

- Fresque des Lyonais: questo murales rappresenta 30 personaggi storici di Lione che hanno contribuito allo sviluppo della città, tra questi i fratelli Lumière e Antoine de Saint Exupéry, lo scittore del Piccolo Principe.

Sulla collina di Fourvière si trovano il Theatre Romain e la Basilique Notre Dame de Fourvière, raggiungibili a piedi o con la funicolare.

Il Teatro Romano è il più antico di Francia con diecimila posti.

La Basilica di Fourvière è strepitosa, le decorazioni all'interno sono tutte fatte di mosaici. Dalla Basilica si gode di una splendida vista della città di Lione. Una scalinata di 345 scalini conduce da Vieux Lyon alla Basilica.

La Cathédrale de Saint Jean si trova a Vieux Lyon ed all'interno c'è un bellissimo orologio astronomico che si muove ogni ora tra le 12 e le 16. La cattedrale è chiusa il sabato ed il lunedì, gli altri giorni è aperta dalle 8 alle 15.

Un pò fuori rispetto alla penisola Presqu'ile, il Parc de la Tete d'Or merita sicuramente una visita per lo splendido giardino botanico. Il parco è facilmente raggiungibile con le linee A e B della metropolitana, è aperto dalle 6,30 alle 22,30.

Le principali zone dello Shopping di Lione sono: Rue de la République, Place Bellecour, Place des Jacobins, Rue Victor Hugo (qui ci sono tantissimi bar e ristorantini asiatici 😋) e Place des Célestins.

Rue Mercière è invece piena di ristoranti, troverai un ristorante dietro l'altro lungo tutta la via.

Place des Jacobins è un pò il centro della Presqu'ile, ci passerai spesso per andare da una parte all'altra della penisola. E' una bella piazza patrimonio dell' UNESCO con al centro una bella statua ed ai lati dei bei palazzi dell'800 .

Merita una visita l'esterno del Theatre des Célestins,nell'omonima piazza, soprattutto la sera quando è illuminato .Al centro della piazza c'è un periscopio,guardando non ti sarà chiaro cosa stai vedendo... per risolvere il mistero 😊 scendi nel parcheggio dei celestini (parking des célestins), guardando il teatro le scale sono sulla destra, vai nel centro del parcheggio e guarda in basso .... SORPRESA... il Pozzo di San Patrizio 😊... Questo parcheggio infatti ha anche vinto un premio poichè realizzato come un'opera d'arte contemporanea... Adesso che hai scoperto il "segreto" ritorna al periscopio , adesso è tutto chiaro , vero?😉

Stra consigliata la crociera sul fiume Rodano che arriva fino al punto dove il fiume Rodano ed il fiume Saona si uniscono.

Lione è bellissima anche di notte, gli edifici illuminati creano un'atmosfera davvero suggestiva!!

Sapevi che Lione è considerata, insieme a Torino e Praga, fa parte del triangolo magico della magia bianca?

Come Torino e Praga, anche il nucleo urbano di Lione si è formato nel punto in cui confluiscono un fiume maschile, il Rodano, ed uno femminile, la Saona. Questo, in una chiave di interpretazione esoterica, rappresenta la coniugio oppositorum, le nozze mistiche, la sintesi del solare e del lunare, qualcosa che ricorda il Rebis degli alchimisti.

Sopravvalutati:

- Escalier Prunelle e Escalier Mermet : l'idea è bella, due scalinate interamente dipinte con murales, purtroppo oggi il colore è notevolmente spiadito, non è affatto come nelle foto che trovi online, e la sfacchinata che si fa per arrivare, Croix Rousse è tutta in salita, non vale la pena

- Amphitheatre des Trois Gaules (Anfiteatro delle tre Gallie): Purtroppo è in stato di abbandono. Anche in questo caso la sfacchinata per arrivarci non vale la pena ; è abbastanza vicino all'Escalier Prunelle

- i traboules: passaggi all'interno di palazzi privati che collegano due strade, si trovano a Vieux Lyon. A mio avviso sono sopravvalutati perchè li ho trovati in tantissime altre città, anche a Bologna dove abito io ce ne sono, mentre leggendo sulle guide sembra si tratti di qualcosa di unico e particolare. Per vederli non hai bisogno di una guida, andando nelle poche vie di Vieux Lyon troverai delle porte con una placca , quella placca indica che entrando dalla porta stai entrando in un traboules e che quindi uscirai in una strada parallela . Attenzione però, non tutti i traboules sono visitabili, se trovi il cartello di passaggio vietato sulla porta significa che non è permesso il passaggio. Cerca inoltre di non fare rumore quando ti trovi all'interno dei traboules,pare che gli abitanti dei palazzi siano particolarmente suscettibili al rumore.

WHAT TO DO IN BORDEAUX, FRANCE

I really enjoied strolling around Bordeaux .

What surprised me the most were the many restaurants , there are so many restaurants that probably it will take you more then one year to try them all !!! I haven't seen so many restaurants even in bigger cities. So it will be easy for you to find a place to eat 😊 .

The places I found very characteristic for a drink or for dinner are Chartreause Square, Rue des Cheverus, Place Fernande La fargue and Place du Parlement.

The famous landmarks in Bordeaux are all located in the historic center on the left bank of the Garonna River , all at a walking distance from each other.

Place de la Bourse is the most iconic square in Bordeaux. Across the square there is the Miroir d'Eau a pool that provides a magical vibe and amazing pictures of the buildings that reflect on the pool's water. Come here at sunset for stunning pictures !

From Miroir d'eau turn your head on the river and you will see the famous Pont de Pierre, that connects the left and the right banks of the Garonne River . It was commissioned by Napoleon and inaugurated in 1822, it was the first stone bridge ever built in Bordeaux. Until then it was necessary to cross the river by boat. The bridge has 17 spans as the numbers of letters in the name Napoleon Bonaparte. Pont de Pierre was the only bridge to connest the historic center on the left bank and La Bastide district on the right bank for nearly 150 years. At night Pont de Pierre is illuminated.

Leaving Pont de Pierre at your back you walk on the river and a few meters on the left you will find Place de Quinconces, one of the biggest squares in Europe. (for the italian readers, this is a piazzale not a piazza). The monument and the fountain are majestic and really beautiful.

Another famous landmark in Bordeaux is Rue Sainte Catherine, a shopping street 1,2 km long but I couldn't find any shop to blow my mind.

Above the pictures of Grosse Cloche, one of the oldest belfries in France. It is open for visits, a guide will show you the dungeons. The visit must be booked online.

WHAT TO EAT IN BORDEAUX

Oysters

Fresh Oysters arrive daily from Arcachon pond, you can taste them at Chez Jean-Mi situated at the Marché des Capucins and at the Marché des Quai des Chartrons; be ready for a long line but it's worthy 😋.

Lamproie à la bordeleise (Lamprey bordeaux style)

Lamprey is a fish mainly catched in the Garonne and the Dordogne estuary and it's cooked with leeks, red wine and ham.

You can enjoy a delishous lamproie à la bordeleise at Brasserie Le Noailles, Allée de Tourny 12 (close to the Grand Théatre).

Entrecote à la bordeleise

The entrecote is cooked on vine sprouts, soaked with wine and covered with shallot.

You can try the Entrecote à la bordeleise at Brasserie Le Noailles, Allée de Tourny 12 (close to the Grand Théatre).

Canelé

It is a little sweet flavoured with ron and vanilla with a caramelized crust.

You can find Canelé almost everywhere in Bordeaux.

Lillet

It is a liquor made by a mix of different wines and fruits and can be white, red or rosé . You can drink it alone or in a cocktail , for example James Bond in Casino Royale ordered a Kina Lillet Martini a cocktail made with gin, vodka and Kina Lillet.

You can enjoy a lillet and a nice view of Bordeaux on the terrace of Mama Shelter Hotel, Rue Poquelin Molière 19

Sel du Chateau

Coarse salt marinated in red wine.

Since I bought it I am using it everywhere and it gives a delishous taste to any dish .

It is not easy to find Sel du Chateau , all epicerie I tried didn't have it , I finally found it in a shop at Bord'eau Village that sells typical food and drinks , included lillet bottles.

Bord'eau Village is an open hair mall with shops and restaurants on the old docks.

Caviar

Produced in Aquitaine you can buy it at Caviar Galerie, 5 Rue Martignac.

I strongly recommend a boat tour. River Cruise offers several options. You can book your tour online or at their kiosk on the left bank in front of Ibaia Cafè.

We staied at Ibis Bordeaux Gare Saint Jean located at walk distance from the train station , the last stop of bus 1 (that brings you intown from the airport) and the stop of the shuttle from/to the airport.

Ibis hotels are the same all around the world, small rooms but coozy . The way the room was made made me feel to be on a cruise ship 😊. Free wi-fi and nice staff. Breakfast available for a fee but since next door there is a Columbus Cafè I did not try it.

If you arrive late in the evening you can grab something to eat at the near Bombay Tacos.

What to do in Sirmione, Italy

This was my first time on the lake and I loved it !!!!

While in Sirmione I suggest you get an hotel inside the old part of the town, this way everything will be easily reachable by walk.

You will enjoy strolling in Sirmione's old part with the beautiful medioeval buildings decorated with plants and flowers and the many gelaterie that serve very strange flavours.

Sirmione's castle welcomes you and from the drawbridge and you will enter the old town.

It is possible to visit the castle, you will have to check the time table outside the entrance cause the castle is not open everyday, the cost is 6 €. To be honest, I think you can save that money because what you see inside the castle is not very different from what you see from the outside , unless you want to walk up the tower to see Sirmione and the neighbors Garda Lake towns from the top.

There are lots of swans and ducks in Sirmione and if you want to get close to them you can go to the little beach on the left side of the castle.

Via Vittorio Emanuele is the main street of the old town and from the castle it will take you to Aquaria Thermal SPA .

If you keep walking from Aquaria Thermal SPA you will arrive at the extreme tip of Sirmione Peninsula at Grotte di Catullo (Catullo's Grottoes).

Catullo's Grottoes are not actually grottoes but the ruins of a Roman Villa that belonged to the poet Catullo.

There isnt much left of the Villa but you can find designs that will show you how big it was and the description of every room.

The Villa is the most important example of high class residence in Northern Italy.

The location of the villa is stunning !

Down Catullo's Grottoes you will find Jamaica Beach.

If you are staying at an hotel that has direct access to the lake there is no point for you to come here , since bathing is very difficult due to the slippery rocks; the main issue is not actually go in the water but come out. The beach infact is made by rocks and not sand.

At Jamaica Beach you can find deck chairs and stay under the trees or you can bring your own umbrella and stay on the rocks close to the lake. There is also a bar.

The other beach is Bagno delle Bionde, from the little beach close to the castle there is a promenade on the lake that will bring you here and it's really nice and all in the shade.

You can cruise the lake and /or the peninsula.

Garda Tours offers several options all bookable online .

We enjoied the tour of Sirmione Peninsula and the tour of the islands.

The tour of Sirmione Peninsula last 25mins and it's available at different hours everyday.

The tour of the islands lasts 3 hours, it's available only once a week and it will bring you to Isola del Garda, Gardone, Torre San Marco and Isola dei Conigli (where you will have a 45mins stop to swim and NO there are no rabbits on the island 😥). During the cruise you will also enjoy a nice aperitivo.

Where to stay

We staied at Hotel Giardino in the old town.

The hotel is pretty old , you will jump back in the '60, and over priced (but still cheaper then others options of the same level) BUT the location, the (included) breakfast with lake view and birds makes hotel Giardino a very good choice. They also have a little dock with umbrellas and deck chair to enjoy a swim on the lake. A little tip ... if you reserve directly from the hotel website you get a better fare then with booking

Where to eat

We think that the food offer can improve. During high season it is better to make a reservation and pay attention to the weekly closing day.

Recommended Restaurants:

Ristorante Pizzeria Arcimboldo, next door to Hotel Giardino, some tables are right on the lake. They serve pizza, fish from the lake and the sea and meat. We tried the lake fish grigliata and it was very good 😋

Ristorante Al Torcol, local cuisine with a touch of asian 😋

Not recommanded Restaurants:

Piccolo Castello,right infront the castle and very nice from the outside BUT too much garlic on everything !!! and also over priced.

Ristorante Pizzeria Accanto, in the beautiful Piazza Carducci. Maybe the pizza is good but the pasta and the meat were not to remember ... actually the pasta was overcooked 😖

Ristorante Grifone,on the same street of Piccolo Castello , the meat was very hard; for what we ate we found it over priced.

Most of the frescos are traditionally Bavarian, showing fairy tales and, because this is Oberammergau, religious tableaux.

NEUSCHWANSTEIN CASTLE, GERMANY

Situated in the Bavarian Alps, his construction began in 1868 and was never completed.

Neuschwanstein is known as a castle of paradox. It was built in a time when castles were no longer necessary as strongholds, and, despite its romanticized medieval design, Louis also required it to have all the newest technological comforts. The lavish structure is complete with a walled courtyard, an indoor garden, spires, towers, and an artificial cave. In contrast to the medieval castles it was modeled after, Neuschwanstein is equipped with running water throughout, including flush toilets and hot water in the kitchen and baths, and has a forced-air central heating system. The dining room is serviced by an elevator from the kitchen three stories below. Louis even made sure the castle was connected to telephone lines, although at the time of its construction very few people had telephones.

The castle also inspired Disneyland's Sleeping Beauty Castle.

COLOGNE CATHEDRAL - GERMANY

The site of Cologne Cathedral has been occupied by Christian churches since about the 4th century.

An older cathedral was destroyed by fire in 1248, and immediately thereafter work began on the present cathedral, which was designed in the Gothic style in emulation of French church architecture.

Construction finally ended in 1880.

Cologne Cathedral was badly damaged by Allied air raids in 1944, but the medieval windows had been removed beforehand.

By 1948 the choir had been restored and was again in regular use, as was the rest of the interior by 1956.

In the late 20th century work began to repair the effects of acid rain on the stonework.

The Cathedral is part of UNESCO World Heritage since 1996.

SACHSENHAUSEN CONCENTRATION CAMP - GERMANY

More then 200.000 people were interned in Sachsenhausen concentration camp btw 1936 and 1945. They included political opponents of the nazi regime and members of groups declared by the nazis to be racially or biologically inferior such as jews, sinti and Roma and people persecuted as homosexuals.

Initially internees were forced to work in workshops and factories owned by the SS.

From the late summer of 1938 internees were forced to build the world's largest brickworks close to Lehnitz lock, near Oranienburg.

Tens of thousands of internees died as a result of hunger, disease, forced labour, medical experiments and mistreatment or were victims pf systematic extermination operations by the SS.

The evacuation of Sachsenhausen concentration camp began in the early hours of april 21st, 1945.

More then 30.000 remaining intenrees were marched off in groups towards the north west.

Thousands of internees died during these marches.

On april 22nd, 1945 units of the Soviet and Polish armies finally liberated around 3.000 sick internees as well as nurses and doctors.

SANTO STEFANO BASILICA, BOLOGNA, ITALY

Santo Stefano is the most unique complex in Bologna.

It is mainly known as “sette chiese” (“seven churches”) because it is the merger of multiple buildings erected in different eras.

The origins of the complex are controversial and disputed.

According to the most accepted theory, it was built by Petronius ,after a trip to the Holy Land, to reproduce the places of worship in Jerusalem.

There are symbols to proove that theory such as:

- The Chiesa del Santo Sepolcro, the second you will visit after entering, reproduces the tomb of Christ on the model of the tomb of the Anastasis in Jerusalem.

- The external structure of the church has 8 sides, like the day of the resurrection;

the internal structure has 12 sides, like the number of the apostles and the tribes of Israel.

- There are also 12 columns surrounding the tomb, 7 of which are in egyptian cipolin marble.

FIJI

Fiji Islands archipelago is made of 332 islands but only 106 are inhabitated .

The biggest islands are Viti Levu and Vanua Levu.

The international airport is located in Viti Levu therefore you will spend at least one night on the island before traveling to the more turistic Mamanuca Islands and Yagasawa Islands.

The Mamanuca Islands are relatively close to Viti Levu.

They are the typical tropical islands with white sands and palm trees .

In this group we visited Bounty Island.

Bounty Island is very small, you can circle the island in less then 10mins.

Sun bathing and swimming are the only activities you will enjoy on Bounty Island.

Bounty Island has private rooms and dorms.

Private rooms are right on the beach and have private bathrooms.
The rooms are minimal, there is only the bed and a little wardrobe but are clean.

Meals are served in a commun room and there is no menu... You get what they give you 😃.
Food isn't unforgettable 😄.

On the island you can get a nice massage 💆... Ofc we had it.. 😉

There are boats in order to travel between the islands, those boats work as big water taxi stopping offshore and waiting for the hotels' boats to arrive and pick up or bring the hotel's guests and their luggages.

There are 2 taxi a day one leaving Nadi and one arriving to Nadi and while on board you can stare at gorgeous sunsets.

The Yagasawa Islands are very different then the Mamanuca Islands.

As mentioned above the Mamanuca Islands are small and flat while the Yagasawa are bigger and they have lots of vegetation.

In the Yagasawa Islands we staied at Mantaray Resort .

The Resort has 3 different types of accommodations: private rooms with private bathroom, private rooms with share bathroom and dorms with shared bathroom.

We staied in both the private rooms .

Private rooms with private bathroom are located on the beach, they have a nice big bed with mosquito net.

Private rooms with shared bathroom are very basic , there are only the beds, no wardrobe or other amanities but they are clean and that's the most important . They are located a few step from the beach.

3 mandatory meals are served, nothing special to talk about 😊.

The reason to stay at this hotel is the encounter with Manta rays 💗.

You can swim with Manta rays from May to October when they migrates in this area to find abundance of zooplankton to eat.

Swim with these giants is a wonderful experience you will never forget !!!

During the tour you arrive by boat at Manta Ray Passage and , after spotted Manta rays from the boat you go in the water with your snorkel gear.

Currents are very strong so it's very difficult to swim with the Manta rays but luckily they swim up and down the passage to eat as much as possible so you will see them swimming back and forth under you without having to chase them 😊💗.

MYKONOS, GREECE

Together with Santorini, Mykonos is probably the most famous island of the Cyclades.

Mykonos is famous for the nightlife scene , it's also known as Greek Ibiza 😉, the traditional white houses, the windmills and the amazing beaches.

BUT the most famous on the island is him: PETROS OF MYKONOS 💗

Petros is a pelican that was found hurted on the shore by a fisherman .

Nursed back to life Petros remained on the island for 30 years and became Mykonos Mascot.

After his death Jackie Kennedy Onassis, that was a regular visitor of the island, donated to the residents a pelican named Irene but also a German zoo donated a pelican named Petros AND a few years later another wounded pelican arrived on the island and the residents called him Nikolas.

So no more just one but 3 pelicans are now living on the island!

If you will visit the island you will meet with one of them for sure , especially during the evening since they like to walk in the restaurants area.

It is very funny to watch people stop walking to let the pelican do his walk.

EL JEM COLOSSEUM, TUNISIA

The amphitheater is a UNESCO world heritage from 1979.

The amphitheater is the third for dimensions, after the ones in Rome and Capua.
As the one in Rome, his front façade with 3 levels of galleries is still intact!

If you plan to travel to Tunisia you cannot miss a visit to El Jem Colosseum!!

There is nothing else to do intown and the Colosseum is not close to any other place of interest but the it's so worthy !

Once you will arrive and the Colosseum is right in front of you , this will be your expression 😱😱😱.... hahaha

Ksar Ghilane, Tunisia

Ksar Ghilane is an oasis of southern Tunisia located on the eastern limit of the Grand Erg Oriental, that can be easily reached by a paved road.

There are hot springs and beautiful dunes that you can discover by foot or on a camel.

In the desert i experienced the real silence.

I realized that i never experienced the real silence before. Even if you live in a remote area and you think that during certain time of the day there is silence it's not the real silence .

When you are in the desert it is like you are in a bubble.

We learned how to cook bread in a Bedouin way,in the desert sand.

After the bread is cooked is then broken up into small pieces and eaten with meat and sauces.

Naxos, Greece

Naxos is the largest and the greenest of the Cyclades islands.

It has high mountains, fertile valleys, lush green gorges, stunning seascapes and traditional villages perched high on mountain tops.

Naxos is also home to beautiful old churches, monasteries and Venetian castles coexisting harmoniously with the Cycladic architecture.

Upon entering the port you will encounter the islet of Palatia.

On the islet the impressive marble gate, temple of Apollo, stands still since the 6th century BC.

Accordingly to mythology this is the place where Dionysus met Ariadni who had been abandoned by Thesseus.

Chora, the Capital of Naxos, whose landmark is an imposing VenetianCastle, is an old castle town with stone paved alleys where you can admire an unique blend of Cycladic and Medieval architecture.

Naxos is so far my favourite place for sunsets... check them out, aren't they amazing ?

Temakinho Bologna Nippo-Brazilian Restaurant

This Nippo-Brazilian Restaurant was a lovely surprise!

The menu offers typical Brazilian dishes, like picanha and petiscos; we got the fried manioca w green sauce and it was delish!
As Japanese dishes they offer temaki (bigger then the usual temaki)and rolls w interesting combinations of ingredients we haven’t found in other Japanese restaurants.
We got Noite Paulista Roll (seared Amberjack, breaded prawns, cocumber, mango , sesame,tobiko and teriyaki sauce), Atum Crocante Roll (white tuna,tobiko,chives,maracuja sauce w miso and cachaça, puffed tempura flour and avocado), Rio Bananal Temaki (breaded salmon,avocado, banana, teriyaki souce and sesame seeds) and Salmao Mexicano Temaki ( salmon tartare, Philadelphia , nachos , Mexican chili pepper, spicy mayo, chives and tobiko).
All delish!!!!

They also serve poke and tartares but we haven’t tried them .

And of course amazing desserts; we got the Pudin Tropical, a yogurt and mango bavarese cake, so refreshing.

Cocktails are also very interesting; we got mango and pink pepper caipirinha 😋!

The walls are painted w palm leaves and some of the female Orixas (African divinities).

CONSERVA DI VALVERDE - I BAGNI DI MARIO - BOLOGNA - ITALIA

This is a little treasure that not many Bologna citizen know.

It was built in 1563 to bring the water to several fountains in the city center, included the world famous Nettuno Fountain.

The real name is Conserva di Valverde but it’s known as Bagni di Mario for a misunderstanding in the XIX century when they thought that this was a private spa of the Roman consul Caio Mario.

Walking trough one of the tunnels you can also find a stalagmite that shines like a diamond😊.

Den Norske Opera & Ballett
The roof makes an angle at the bottom creating a a big square that invites visitors to walk up and enjoy a panoramic view of Oslo.
Most of the building is made by white granite , the façade is made by Carrara Marble and the scenic tower is coated in white alluminium. The inside surfaces are covered in oak wood.

Aker Brygge

It's a nice seafront area full of restaurants. On street there are very nice statues. At the end of Aker Brygge you will find the museum of modern art Astrup Fearnley,

Vigeland Park

This is the world's largest sculpture park made by a single artist .

The park is open 24/7.

There are more then 200 sculptures in bronze, granite and wrought iron.

Vigeland was also in charge of the design and architectural layout of the park.

Most of the sculptures are placed in five units along an 850 meter long axis.

the park was mainly completed btw 1939 and 1949.

The Viking Ship Museum

Museum on the Bygdøy peninsula with the world's best-preserved Viking ships and finds from Viking tombs around the Oslo Fjord.
The Viking Ship Museum shows discoveries from the Gokstad, Oseberg and Tune ships, plus small boats, sledges, a cart, tools, textiles and household utensils.
This is a very interesting museum a must to see while intown.

Pretty little city , with little I mean that everything you need to see is close.

The Alster lake

The City All By Night

The Reeperbahn (the red lights district) was a bit disappointing. What a read about it was that Reeperbahn is lined with popular cafes, bars, restaurants,night spots and a red light district. What i found was dirt everywhere (I have to admit that in general I found the city very dirty), a few sexy shops , some leather clothes and shoes shops , a few bars and too many junkies sitted in big groups on the street. Not sure this should be considerate a touristic place .

The only good food I had while in town was at the Japanese Restaurant Yoshi

I also tried the Restaurant Die Bank that was supposed to be "the most chichi restaurant, this place is all about eating one's fill of the best offerings from sea, land and air".

I have to admit that the location is pretty cool , since before the place was a bank . The wines cellar is inside one of the old caveau and the other one is for the wardrobe. I could not find anything else other then the location...the food was below the standard, you expect much more from such a pretentious restaurant that is also mentioned on the Michelin Guide. I ordered the dinner menu. The apetizer was ok nothing you will remember for the rest of your life, the ravioli where overcooked and you know that is a huge no no for me . I believe that if a chef decides to cook pasta he must cook it the way we do in Italy . The tomato sauce of the ravioli tasted as tomato paste warmed. I cannot even remember what I had for second dish and for dessert.

I staied at the Ibis Alster Centrum,Holzdamm 4-12 + 16. The location was good , a few mins walk from the train station and about 10 minutes walk from the Alster Lake. The reception is nicely decorated , staff was average.

The room and the bathroom were bigger then Ibis standard but I think this was due to the fact that the room could also accomodate weelchair users.

Both room and bathroom were cleaned .

The room insonorisation was very bad, my room was close to the elevator and I could hear the noise.

The hotel is a 2 stars superior and it is over priced since a double room without breakfast costed us almost 90€ /day and I do not think this hotel is worth it.

CHICAGO

Travelled in July 2015

I liked Chicago because it is very European , this because after the Great Chicago Fire in 1871 many European Architects has been called to rebuild the City. As an Example, The Magnificent Mile reminded me of the Champs Elyseès in Paris.
This way you can find big glass buildings close to smaller red brick or concrete ones.
Another reason for me to love Chicago are the rivers and the canals that runs trough the city making it very unique.
Third reason to love Chicago is the green. You can find nice and unique little gardens in every corner or along the main Boulevards.

I suggest to take a cruise in the canals , this way you can enjoy the view of the city from the water and you can learn more about the buildings history .

I also went on the double decker. You can choose between the Downtown ticket, that costs US$ 35,00 and that can be used for 24hours , or the All Tours ticket, that costs US$ 45,00 and can be used for 48hours . I choosed the second one and I do recomand it because the downtown tour is nothing special, since the interesting part of downtown Chicago is very small you can easily walk to every interesting part and the bus guides do not say anything memorable. I also found very limitated their running hours , the last tour starts at 5pm and during summer time I think it's too early. With the All Tours ticket you will be on a trolley and will visit the other neighbourhoods , such as Little Italy, Greek Town or China Town , I found these tours much more interesting.

With the All Tours ticket you can also do the night tour of downtown, basically it is the same itinerary you will do during the day but with less stops. You will see the buildings illuminated but you can see them even from the streets so definitely it is not a must to do but since it's included in the ticket then why not.?!......

The Bean (real name Cloud Gate) is one of the most famous sculptures in Chicago, a must to see. It is inside the Millenium Park where other magnificent sculptures, lots of green and a concert hall are also located.

In every guide about Chicago you will read that the Navy Pier is a must to see,....well I got very disappointed since it is only a small , very small , amusement park....I don't even think it is correct to call it an amusement park since there is only a wheel and a few carousels for kids.....I think this attraction can be missed without any regrets.....

Restaurants

Nomi ,inside the Park Hyatt, 800N Michigan Ave. Good Japanese Restaurant, a bit overpriced

Fig & Olive, 104 E Oak St. DO NOT WAIST YOUR TIME AND MONEY HERE. The cuisine should be a mix of south italian, south france and south spanish.....Well I don't know about the South France and Spanish but we are veeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeery far away from the South of Italy flavours and food quality.

I ordered the Zucchini Blossom and Goat Cheese Ravioli and they were nothing special. The pasta was over cooked , it is a crime to over cook pasta for an Italian so I expect not to eat overcooked pasta in a restaurant that claims to serve italian dishes. The person that was with me ordered the Fig and Gorgonzola Risotto and she got a completely different dish. When I told it to the waitress she asked if she wanted the risotto but she did not want to wait so she refused . When we got the bill I expected to not been charged for the wrong dish but the waitress only took of the dessert "because she felt bad about it"....Not a very professional behaviour and not the right way to treat customers.

Mc Cormick & Schmick's Seafood, 41E Chestnut Street LOVED IT Professional Service, amazing drinks and food. I had the Cashew Crusted Tilapia ,Jamaican Rum Butter, Sweet Potato CousCous.....very gnammy...it was such a big plate that I did not have room for dessert....

I staied at the Hotel Felix, 111 W Huron St. Lovely boutique hotel at a walking distance to every major sightseen . They also have a french restaurant next door (The Troquet) that serves delicious food. I had a very good Salmon Croque . I also had a very good Moscow Mule Cocktail at the hotel bar.
I booked trough rocketmiles.com and paid around € 150,00/day for a queen bed (small) room + I received 7.000 avios with British Airways .
The reception area is beautiful with many nice sculptures. The small room was nothing special , no special touch . The bathroom had a very nice and big shower with complimentary shampoo, conditioner, shower gel, body lotion and hair dryer.
Complimentary wi-fi in all the hotel.
I do recommend this hotel.

I also spent 3 nights at the Hyatt O'Hare Airport and I don't recommend it . For 2 days out of 3 I did not get the wake up call I requested the nights before and since I was attending some meetings at the hotel that was not good at all. The food at both hotel restaurants is below average , you expect more from an Hyatt Hotel. Since the airline lost my suitcase I requested some complimentary items at the reception, unfortunately I had to visit the reception 3times because every time the house keeper was bringing them something was missed , again you expect a better service from an Hyatt Hotel. If you need to stay close to the airport the location is good, it is a few minutes away from the Airport by complimentary shuttle but I believe there are other hotels in the area you could try . I do not know the cost of a room because the Company that invited me paid for it. Complimentary wi-fi in all the hotel but in the Conference Rooms located in the lower floor it was not working.

I flew to Chicago with Lufthansa and I was not sadisfied at all by the service I received.

On the way there I flew from Bologna to Frankfurt then from Frankfurt to Chicago. The flight from Bologna landed late , it actually landed while the boarding for the flight to Chicago started. Usually when this happens a member of the airline is waiting for the travellers and brings them at the gate , helping them to pass fast the immigration . This did not happen with Lufthansa. Nobody was waiting for us and we had to run from one side of the airport to the other, and Frankfurt airport is a huge airport . When I arrived all passengers had already boarded. Then in Chicago I got another surprise....my luggage did not make it on the plane . I went to the Lufthansa booth to fill the form and they told me the suitcase would arrive on the next day flight and I should expect it for around 5pm (it actually arrived at midnight) . Only because I asked for it they gave me a bag with toothpaste, toothbrush , a deodorant and some other items. When I received the suitcase some items were missing, I sent Lufthansa an email about it after my return (beg. of July) and only a few days ago I received a call from their customer center asking for my bank details to get a refund.

On the flight from Frankfurt to Chicago I flew businness class. The service was good , not outstanding. Food was good but pasta was overcooked. The cabin was nice with new furniture .

On the return I flew in premium economy and transited in Munich. the cabin crew was not helpful, I had troubles before landing in Munich with the footrest and the flight attendant kept staring at me without helping. I liked the seat that reclined 50% and it was very comfortable but I did not like that it did not recline within a fixed area, therefore if the person ahead or behind you moove without respect you will get disturbed. I also did not like that premium economy was not separeted by the economy class , with british airlines for exemple the two classes are separeted , there are toilets only for the premium class and one flight attendant takes care only of the premium economy travellers. Food was nothing to remember.

Other then the email about the missing items I sent other 3 emails with complaints and I still did not receive any reply.

Around August 6th, almost 1month after I sent the complaints I finally got a phone call from Lufthansa apologising for all the inconveniences and stating that they will give me 3.000miles ; still no refund for the missing items on my suitcase .

Tips

Even if you will visit Chicago on summer time bring some warm clothes....do not forget that his nickname is 4 Seasons City.....

United Airlines Business Lounge ....olives , crackers and cheese...that is it.....disappointing....If you are thinking to pay to enter this Lounge (US$ 50,00)DON'T, it's just a waist of money. I have to admit though that I really appreciate the United customer care. I sent a disappointing email about the food & beverages at the lounge and they promptly sent me a voucher for a free entrance in any of their worldwide lounges.
