Develop Your Own Skin Care Routine And Stick To It

You don't need to spend a lot of money buying one-size-fits-all skin care sets, use your own common sense and develop a routine that works only for you. You can mix and match your products and brands to fit your own budget. As an example, I will break down my own skin care routine for you, and you will see that I use a variety of brands and products that fit my budget and are so easy to use. The secret to anyone's skin is sticking to your routine and using it every day.

1) Washing - the most important step of any skin care routine. Washing your face removes oil, dirt, dead skin, impurities and any yuck you might have on your face. I use two products for washing: the Neutrogena Wave with regular cleansing pads and Noxema foaming cleanser. I alternate the two products every other day. I found that when I used the Wave every day, it over dried my skin, so by alternating it with Noxema I have found a healthy balance for my skin. 2) Astringent and/or Toner - not a must have but it makes my skin feel great. I use Oil of Olay Oil Minimizing Toner. I simply take a cotton swab of it and wipe it across my face, making sure to get the creases around my nose, the bridge of my nose and my chin since those are my own specific problem areas. It leaves my skin feeling so clean and smooth and tight. I love it and it's not an expensive product and no - it's not just for old ladies either!

3) Moisturizer - a must have to keep your skin from drying out, and I highly recommend something with SPF. I use Mary Kay Timewise Day Solution with SPF 35. It keeps my skin soft all day and it has a nice smell. You can purchase this product directly from the Mary Kay website or your Mary Kay rep. It is a little on the expensive side - but it lasts a long time! It is $30 on the Mary Kay website.

4) Make-Up - not an essential, but I thought that I would mention it because most women do wear makeup daily. I use a combination of CoverGirl Cosmetics and Mary Kay. I start with my CoverGirl Clean Pressed Powder foundation. I like it because it doesn't settle into my fine lines, the color is perfect for me and it's light. Then, I use Mary Kay eye shadows and blush (you can purchase a variety directly from MaryKay.com or your representative) and I finish up with CoverGirl Professional All In One mascara. That's all I wear with the exception of Soft Lips lip balm for just a hint of color on my lips with much-needed moisture and SPF.

5) Make-Up Removal Before Bed - I know sometimes you don't always feel like it, but you really should wash your face to remove the makeup before bed. I found a very easy way to do it - Neutrogena Cleansing Wipes. It completely removes my makeup and other impurities that have built up throughout the day. It leaves me feeling fresh, smooth and it smells very good. This is another product that is not very expensive and very easy to do. I keep them close to my bed and if I do ANYTHING to my face at night, I do this.

6) Night Moisturizer - Again, this isn't a "have-to-do" but it helps with the healthy balance of moisturized and firm skin. After using my cleansing wipes, I use the Mary Kay Timewise Night Solution. It is a little expensive, $30 a bottle, but it lasts forever and for me it's worth the cost. It has micro capsules that give your skin a boost. It makes my skin feel pampered at bed time. This product can be purchased directly on the Mary Kay website or from your rep.

So this is just the solution I have created for myself. Not every skin has the same needs, so by experimenting with a variety of products you, too, can develop just the routine that will keep your skin fresh, smooth, blemish free and looking great!

Dealing with Telangiectasia & Angiomas - Keeping them covered!

When you deal with autoimmune diseases, many cause your skin to break out it in red spots and little spider veins known as petechia, purpura, telangiectasia and angiomas. Depending on the direction of the blood flow of the spots determines which spots are what. They're usually not painful but can be a cosmetic pain in the butt.

I myself suffer from telangiectasia on my face, arms and chest. I did find a way to make the ones on my face less conspicuous though, and believe me - it helps with the confidence because as red as mine are - I think everyone's looking at them and not me.

The way I cover mine can also cover other red areas and rosacea. What I do is:

1) use a cream foundation one shade lighter than my skin

2) dot my foundation directly on the redspots

3) then, I take my usual powder foundation and blot over and around the skin and then I continue with my normal make up routine. As you can see it makes a huge difference. For the purpose of demonstration I only did the two spots on my nose, but I use this process on all the spots on my face and the area of my chest that is exposed when I wear V-necks or halters or tanks.

Try it - I tell you it works!
