how I wander off the crafting path...

I did not do much crafting for the past missing months! I knit a little and it's still an UFO. I read more but wonder how much I've absorbed.

I went "hiking" in Kampong Buangkok, the last village in Singapore. We (I + nephew) went searching for the Kampong and couldn't find it initially (mostly my fault). We went there by bus and it's so near where we'd alighted and we were walking farther away. I was not keeping track of the time so I've no idea how much time we'd wasted. I was tired upon reaching there and just took some pictures like a tourist. We'd actually ask like 6 people and they'd no idea where is the Kampong! Out of the 6, 4 actually work in a factory walking distance away from the Kampong

Blooming Flower Tea (工艺花茶)

I bought two bulbs of blooming flower tea (chrysanthemum), one for me to enjoy and one for my nephew. The name of the flower tea, 步步高升 is a auspicious saying to wish someone getting good advancement/grades in their career/studies.

The place where I bought these is selling 13 different flower teas. I want all of them!

I don't have a nice glass teapot or wine glass, so I searched high and low and found this glass jar. I removed the label on the glass jar carefully; washed and dried it just for one bulb. Anyone knows where I could get them at a cheaper price? I bought the bulbs at $2 each...

Crochet Tulip Sachet

Yay! I kept my promise! Here's the pictures of the tulip-sachets I crocheted. I filled both with lavender and hung them in closets.

I am so happy that the Chinese medical hall started to sell lavender and it's only $3 for 50 grams. The shop also sells osmanthus, hmmn...can I use it as a filling for the sachet?

The pattern is from a Japanese crochet book with lots of cute patterns. The tulip is suppose to be a cleaning glove for kids, so kids will help their mom to do some simple chores. Such a waste! I don't think I want to use something so adorable for cleaning. ^__^

Oh, as for the recycled container using the cardboard core of masking tape...I will follow up with picture of the finished object...I promised!

Material: inner cardboard core of masking tape, paper, wall paper and old mouse pad.

I cut out round shape from a used mouse pad and put glue near the edge and glued it to the bottom of the container. Also, I paste left over wall paper inside and outside of the round core. Any suggestion on how I should hide the ugly rim of the top?

Recyling Box

I am just restless, don't feel like doing anything....sigh.

I did some crafts and recycling projects. For some, I took a picture or two of it and uploaded it onto my hard disk and some I just couldn't be bothered. It just stopped there - no blogging about it. My excitement over finished object is short-lived. I hope this restlessness will phased out soon!

These are simple beaded rings I made using seed beads. These are not to be used as accessories but for counting. Counting? Erm, I am not telling counting numbers of what?hee hee

Okay, here are pictures of the recycling project I did.

Materials used: used box, contact paper, leftover-wallpaper and leftover window film.
Second life: Organizer

Next post, a recycled round container, salvaged from inner core of used masking tape and old mouse pad. Oh, if restlessness does not kick in again, I might post my latest crochet project - Lavender Tulip sachet (or Tulip Lavender sachet?) ;)

I totally forgot about this yellow owl! I wanted to crochet a keys keeper so that my keys do not scratches my mobile phone and stuff...oh, well, I ended up adding buttons and think this isn't going to keep my stuff scratch-proof. No idea if I'm going to use it, give it to someone else or it will eventually collect dust. I love how the different colors seems to come together and not look weird. Unless anyone is interested in a giveaway, I might just do one. ^__^

Make another mini cake, this time it's for myself. I like the bright pink and brown combination, but had a hard time deciding what colors topping to add. I end up using beads and a clay flower for it. No idea if the clay flower could stand the wear, that's why it's a zipper-pull. I don't want keys to crush the flower or the flower to scratch my mobile.

I named this bracelet, Mediterranean because most picture of Mediterranean on TV/Magazines I came across shows white houses with a tint of blue (okay, it's not turquoise).

Coin-shaped white glass beads, small turquoise beads, hollow metal rings and metal chain.

Redecoration of Old Pin Board

Hi all! It's been a month +3 days and I did a first project in the new house!

MATERIAL:

Used Ikea pin board
Old big pillow case
board pins
ribbon
Optional: handle(s) salvaged from drawers/cabinets of old house

STEPS:

As the board is peeling on the side and coming off from the frame, I took out the frame. I put the pillow case covering the board. You may cut the board to the size of the pillow case to fit.
I fold over the extra to use as pockets to hold my mailings and put pins on the side and in the middle as a divider.
The last part is to pin the ribbons for holding notes/stuff.
This step is optional. First I mark the hole, use the screws (or any pointed tools) to poke through the board and screwed the handle to the board. I'm not going to hang this board, so the handle comes in pretty handy. You may put a few handles on the board for your earrings.

What is good is that there's no sewing to be done and I can use both sides of the board. More pictures of the work-in-progress:

It's more then a week since the moved and I've yet to settle down...

The weather is not helping at all as it is HOT! I want to thank the inventor who invented air-conditioning!

I can't unpack my many boxes of stuff as I don't have enough cabinets/drawers. I need to shop for some furnishings before I can unpack everything. Well, we had already bought 2 wardrobes, a chest of drawers (dad's) and a shoe rack.At least the kitchen is more or less ready and we can cook our meals. ^o^

First visitor who invaded my new humble home, my bedroom actually...my dad had to help get rid of this unwanted visitor. Erm, you are not welcome anymore, visitor.

Hiya! Anyone misses me?

Just one word - BUSY!

Some updates on what's I've been up to. New house - cleaned, checked defectS (yes! with a capital "S"), submitted the defects to contractor, waited for them to finish rectifying the defectS.

While doing all the above, found a contractor (no, no interior designer...) and had discussed the details for kitchen cabinet. Yes, only the kitchen.

Tomorrow, will be discussing the trunking of air con with the dealer. I need $!

Old house - still in the process of boxing...sigh...I hate packing! The part I hate most is deciding what to throw/give away. It's weird that the first box I packed, contains all my yarns and threads. That's the easiest part too, cos I only need to "throw" everything into the box. All crafting supplies go with me! ^____^

So now you know, no craft time as all supplies are boxed...

Moving soon...this month, and lots of things to do and hopefully all goes well. Wish me luck!

A bracelet I did for my sister, which is similar to this.

A pair of Voodoo couple-dolls commissioned by WL.

I brighten the 2nd pix to shows

I was asked to make the dolls with magnetic effect,
but failed on this...I'm not very satisfied with these...

Remember the ribbons I bought?
These corsages were made in January for G's wedding.
The ivory one was for G, the Bride.
Those whites were for G's Bridesmaids.

This is not about crafting but a purchase I made on yahoo auction.
Modeled on my nephew's head.
It's a holder for tissue roll/box,
the tissue comes out of the mouth. ^____^

I have no idea if you can see the shadow in this pix.
The shadow looks as if a dancer is striking a pose.
Make a guess!
What is the object that made this shadow effect??

I was actually upset about not getting the keys to the new flat due to some paperwork issues...

I came upon this website on creating bags/accessories using pop tops. There's a DIY tutorial on creating tab flower. I personally don't find it appealing when looking at only one (1st pic) but when you look at a whole bunch of them in so many pretty colours , they are so awesome!

Roller-coaster

Although I'd like to keep this blog more on crafts related but sometimes I just need to write/rant on other stuff.

I've been like on emotions roller-coaster since Nov'07...my aunt (mum's sister) had tumor in her intestine and had gone for surgery to remove it. The doc said it's not cancerous but still advise her to undergo chemotherapy treatment. She is still undergoing chemotherapy but the good thing is she only has very mild side-effects. As we'll be moving (my dad & I in 1 unit and my aunt & grandma in another unit) soon; we are also selling the units we are currently residing. HDB is processing the paper work for sale of our house. My aunt's unit at 109 Hougang Ave 1 is still up for grab, if anyone is interested do drop me a note.

While waiting anxiously for HDB to send us notification for the new flat, my 3rd uncle (dad's elder brother) passed away last week...He had a relapse, the big C...cancer. I attended his wake and was also at the Mandai Crematorium for the cremation...went home after that and saw the loan letter from HDB sitting nicely in the letterbox. I really have no idea how I felt then. I digress...no idea why there are always issues during time like this. Simply put, 家家有本难念的经. Although I'm not close to this uncle but still sad. I hope that he rest in peace and my aunt and cousins move on with good thoughts/memories of him...

*sigh*

Tulip Toggle Clasp Bracelet

I was looking through my favorites on Flickr and realize I've a number of owls in there. I must like owls, so I searched for more owls on Flickr. After going through 90 pages of photographs of real, handmade, printed and drawn owls. Believe me, there are 116, 931 photographs tagged with "owl" and I'm not at the last page yet...

This is a post on recycling phone cards.

Materials:

Eyelet and eyelet puncher
Phone card with no more value
Jump ring
Keyring
Clear card holder (optional)

Steps:

Select a phone card, (optional: place it into a card holder);
punch a hole, insert eyelet and grip it tight with the puncher;
Use a jump ring, connect with a key ring and you have a keychain!

This third picture shows:
- one phone card holding all keys for padlocks, windows and extra keys.
- the other one has a card with a quote written on it, you may use a photograph.

Some other ideas:
(1) Glue a magnet onto one surface of the card holder, insert the phone card and it's a fridge magnet to hold receipt or a small note. A different phone card for each roommate or family member.

(2) Like the one use for many keys,
punch hole one at each top corner
and tie it with a string for hanging. It becomes a earrings holder.

(4) Punch holes and use it to hold threads for embroidery/cross-stitch.

(4) If you have any ideas, make a comment and I will add on to the list.
