"Snuggler" Hot Chocolate (Recipe)

Nothing beats a cup of hot chocolate on a chilly winter's eve. Here is the recipe for the best ever. And also the simplest.

SNUGGLER Hot Chocolate
1 liter milk (1 3/4 pints)
200g Dark Chocolate (I use Finnish Fazer TALOUS SUKLA) (or 7 oz of chocolate chips)

Heat milk on stove until almost a boil (don't burn it)
Break up the chocolate bar and stir until it melts

Take off heat

Perfection is adding a scoop of Peppermint Ice Cream
If you dont have that, add Vanilla Ice Cream, Marshmallows, or a dollop of whipped cream sprinkled with a touch of cocoa.

Stir with a candy cane.

We have also added to the hot chocolate:
Cinnamon (Mexican Hot Chocolate)
Chili Powder (Wonderful fire and unexpected surprise)
Crushed Cardamom + Cinnamon (Finnish twist)

I've also added powdered sugar, Vanilla, and either Rum or Peppermint extract to heavy cream to beat up a killer whipped cream.

This is harder to do than it looks. The books and magazines don't want to stay nicely where you put them. But when it does work, it sure gets guests talking! (More book trees after the jump!)

HALLOWEEN: Witch Fingers (Recipe)

Disgustingly awesome. But recipe is play it by ear.
Ingredients
1 jar creamy peanut butter (I use Skippy Honey Nut)
Powdered Sugar (start with 1 cup and add more)
Slivered Almonds
Pretzel Sticks
Red Decorating Gel (or add red food coloring to approx 1 cup powdered sugar+1 TB cream to drizzle as "blood". Should be thick enough to pour. (Instructions after the jump)

In a bowl, mix 3/4 jar of peanut butter and powdered sugar. Keep adding powdered sugar until the dough is moldable (like Play-Do) but not dry and sandy. If it becomes grainy, add more PB. If its too "wet" add more powdered sugar.
When ready, take out a pretzel stick. Pull off some dough and wrap around the stick. (I break off some of the stick to make it more finger sized.) Roll until it looks like a finger. (Tap some powdered sugar in your hands while rolling if it isnt stiff enough). Lay the finger down and add a slivered almond as a "nail". Use a dull knife to cut in the finger wrinkles. When your plate is full, either paint the ends with the red decorating gel or drizzle on the red powdered sugar+cream for blood effect.)
If you wonder what is the point of the pretzel, just bit a finger. You will feel the soft "flesh" of the peanut butter dough and the lovely crunch of the pretzel "bone". ((shudder!))
These taste like the inside of a peanut butter cup or a little like Ben & Jerry's "Chubby Hubby" ice cream. But most people love to look but are too afraid to eat!

HALLOWEEN: Eyeball Nachos & Ghost Dip (Recipe)

Super easy and spooky munchies for Halloween parties
EYEBALL NACHOS
Ingredients:
Refried Beans
Salsa
Grated Cheese
Sour Cream
Guacamole
Black Sliced Olives
Ketchup
Nacho Chips

In a circular glass pie pan, spread in the refried beans. Pour salsa on top. Sprinkle on generous amount of cheese. Add dollups of sour cream to cover plate. Be careful, when you smooth it out that it doesn't make the cheese go crazy. Add a circle of guacamole to the center. Add a circle of black olives to the center of the guacamole. Shake the ketchup bottle then draw on the "blood vessels". Serve with a bowl of nacho chips.
GHOST DIP
Ingredients
Sour Cream + Dip (Hidden Valley)
Black or Rose Pepper
Cream Cheese
Ridged Potato Chips (Ruffles)
Cherry Tomatoes
Either use a service tray with a center for the dip, or place dip in a bowl in the middle of the serving tray.
Prepare dip according to directions (I use a combo of mayo+sour cream+dip spices for a thicker dip)
Add to bowl. Spoon out two teaspoons of cream cheese. Roll in Pepper until coated. Drop into dip as "eyes". Roll a teaspoon of cream cheese into a "snake", then roll in Pepper. Drop onto the dip as a mouth. (smile, frown or "O") Surround the dip bowl with chips and sprinkle in cherry tomatoes for effect.
SKULL CUPCAKES (in the background)
We cheated on these. Just bought a package of Cake Mix (Devils Food) and Frosting (Vanilla) and found some licorice skull candies and dropped them on the cupcakes. They looked way more professional and cool than we expected.
