A Haute Mess! Dior Couture FW 2011/12

A collective "team" effort with maybe too many members and ideas on that team.

This was probably one of the main problems of the July 4th Dior haute couture show in Paris. Bill Gaytten, Galliano's former assistant and now head creative director must be hiding under a rock now as the acclaimed house receives a backlash of negative criticism for its latest collection.

Zebra print patch work paired with a furry of over fluffed pastel ruffles and mexican feather ponchos and moon shaped hats; not even the house of Balenciaga on ketamine would aspire to use this much color blocking.

As far as the inspiration for this collection goes, that is another mystery in itself.

"The Maison’s rock soul is expressed in its symbolic motifs, jellyfish, leopard print and baroque style for a trendy and glamorous child that is the image of the brand’s DNA.

The collections are divided into Nursery (0-3 months), Baby (6 months), Kids (3 years), Junior (6-12 years).The little stars can get that glamour early into their closet in various ways. We won´t spoil the surprise and give out the details of the collections. Just have in mind there´s an Alice in Wonderland theme, leopard prints, baby bottles studded with Swarovksi crystals, embellished mini jellyfish, crazy Greek fret, pink micro-orchids, embroidered 3D effect butterflies… etc."

It's been a while since Dontella has made headlines for anything more than going topless at the beach but, she just may have hit gold with the latest s/s 2012 mens collection. This collection embodies the 90's essence and vision of Gianni; vibrant, fun colors and stylish masculinity. Two tone pastel suits and double-breasted jackets with raised sleeves set the stage for an amazing show.

"Could the Fall/Winter 2011/12 collections end with a bigger bang?" I think not.

Louis Vuitton ended PFW yesterday with a fetish infused collection featuring the the biggest, most acclaimed models in recent history. Who else could get Naomi Campbell AND Kate Moss to fly all the way to Paris for a single show besides Marc Jacobs?

I believe that the second most import aspect to a runway show other than impeccable clothes is impeccable presentation. The models entered the runway not through the average cookie cutter hole in the wall but instead, each were hoisted to the platform via four fully functional elevators, each equipped with its personal doorman!

It seems that many designers have been inspired by the 40's post war era this season. It is the era in which shapely women were idolized, sexiness was amplified, and everyone wanted the French maid to be their mistress. Marc did an exemplary job of demonstrating this in an over-the-top fashion. J'adore!

Alexander McQueen Fall/Winter 2011 (+Full Video)

I am starting to run out of adjectives to describe how passionate I am about the works of art produced by the house of Alexander McQueen. I could easily see McQueen himself producing this same collection. His successor, Sarah Burton did an amazing job!

Held in La Conciergerie, the prison of queen Marie Antoinette, the collection encapsulated both her story as well as that of Lee's. Dark eras, exhibited in the structured bondage leather tops and zippers and well as soft elegance, encompassed by the gorgeous white tulle with its hypnotic movement and fur. The heritage skirts and dresses also brought back nostalgic memories of Lee; a silhouette which if not already, will soon be a signature style for the house.

LVMH: First Stop; Bvlgari. Next Stop; Hermès?

The LVMH group is on a news headline winning streak this week! The French holding company now has the prestigious name of Bvlgari to add to its list of top tier fashion houses in which it has shares. However, trying to win over Hermès has not gone as smoothly. The over 150 year old company which has been family ran for 7 generation is not very impressed with LVMH's CEO, Bernard Arnault. The recent troubles with Galliano at Dior have not tickled their fancy either. Hermès feels Arnault has a reputation of gaining control over fashion houses, replacing their key people with youngsters and "modernizing" them. Which, in essence is not entirely false.

Here's a look at the Hermès leather-fest fall/winter 2011 collection from Paris fashion week. Inspired by travel destinations from around the world, virtually every look is breathtakingly beautiful. The color blocking techniques used in some of the pieces were also stunning and very Balenciaga.

This is just my opinion but I think Hermès is doing just fine on their own.
