}
body,td,th {
	font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;
	font-size: 14px;
}

How to make simple 3D wine glass with Adobe illustrator

On Adobe illustrator open a new document.

Choose a canvas size. For this tutorial I went with 6 inch by 6 inch canvas.

Download an image of a wine glass and place it into the canvas. I just googled wine glass and got this image.

To place the image into the canvas click File from the very top and click on place (it should be at the middle of the drop down menu).

Look for the wine glass image in your computer and click place.

The image may appear too big to fit into the canvas.

To see the full wine glass and to reduce the image you will need to zoom out first. On your keyboard hold down ctrl and hit the minus button as many times you need to zoom out. Now click on the wine glass and you should see the anchors appearing around the image.

Please note: if you don’t see the anchors and you just see some blue tiny little boxes instead then you will have to go to View/Show Bounding Box.

Using the mouse and keyboard select and hold one of the anchors around the image and press and hold Shift and Alt key on your keyboard and pull the image inwards so it fits into the canvas.

Now lock this layer and make another layer on top of this layer

If your layer panel is not open on the right side then go to window/Layers.

You should have only one layer which has the wine glass image. Now hit the blank box next to the eye in the layer panel. This will lock the layer.

At the bottom right side of the layer panel click on the icon that says Create new layer. This will bring up a new layer on top of the wine glass layer. You can change the layer names by double clicking where it says layer 1, layer 2 but for this tutorial I have decided not to do it.

Using pen tool (p) start tracing one half the body of the wine glass. Start from top by making a point and then another point in the middle of the curve of the glass. The line will not curve to match the wine glasses body. While holding down on the mouse, hold down shift key on your keyboard and pull down your mouse. The line will start curve to match the glass body.

Please note: if your image is too dark and you are not able to see the line you are drawing on top, you can fade out the image. To do that first unlock the bottom layer by clicking on the lock icon next to the eye on the layer 1 on layer panel. Select the image by clicking on it and then bring the opacity to 50%. View the image. Lock the layer1 again in the layer panel (this is necessary so you don’t move the image while tracing it).

Go ahead and finish tracing all the way to the base of the wine glass. Remember we are tracing only one half of the wine glass.

Now comes the best part you all been waiting for. Select your traced line by clicking ones.

From the top menu go to Effects/3D/Revolve. You should see a popup menu with 3D rendering options.

Please note: You can move these popup menus anywhere in the screen by holding and dragging the top of the menu.

Now click on Preview box on that popup menu. Most of you will see what I see on the screen and it doesn’t look like a wine glass. This a little trick adobe illustrator is playing with you. LOL just kidding. This is happening because the line is being rendered 3D to left so it making a circle going left. To fix that on the popup menu make it Right Edge.

Click ok and it looks like this.

If your tracing line was black colour then your 3D wine glass will be black. To make it white, on the left tool bar double click on stroke and make the colour white on that pop up menu.

Done.
