Three years ago you were Andrea und Christian; three years after it was someone else turn to shed some tears while watching Andrea und Christian mit Jonas getting ready for a natural, honest and candid wedding.

And we discussed this: how time goes by very fast. And how the older one gets, the more sensitive one becomes to said passing. Specially when we have become parents.

Three years ago I just met you and hardly knew anything about your lives. And while there is still plenty I would like to know, I am now – and have been for a while – sure to call you friends. And to honestly feel happy to see you growing as individuals, as a couple, and as a family. What will the future bring? Maybe three years from now? The answer is of course unknown, but the wish that it may be as plentiful and exciting as it has been for you will remain.

I thank you for letting me be part of your day. For calling me a friend and for the opportunity to meet your families. I got to be a bit German while discussing life, love, the world and the town with them and with you. I got to be photographer and guest. I got to be happy for you.

[“De botones, pinos altos, torres y sueños”]

Sueños recurrentes: De aquellos que nos siguen por años; o quizá sea que somos nosotros quienes los seguimos y no podemos dejarlos ir. Soñamos en soñarlos, para que se repitan.

Y casi siempre de los sueños despierta uno encontrándose fuera de lo que ahí se vivió. Queda el recuerdo, la sensación, la imagen. Hasta que ese casi siempre que es el despertar y volver a la realidad se convierte en lo opuesto: volver al sueño la realidad. Así están ustedes Zaira y José, soñando despiertos. Están despiertos – bien despiertos – soñando.

Su sueño, ese de niños se hizo su realidad. Ya no hay más misterio en quién era la mujer que ocupada la Torre. Ya no hay duda de quién era el que volaba alrededor de ella. Los personajes ya están develados, pero sigue siendo un misterio la trama. Esa, suéñenla un poco, improvísenla un mucho, disfrútenla día con día, noche con noche. Gracias por hacerme parte del sueño y lo que deviene de él.

One day she graduates a Doctor, the next she is ready to get married. And she did. They did. Like most doctors they live the fast life, and yet they find the time to be devoted. Perhaps it is the other way around, their devotion is such that they can manage to make time their ally, just as much as their families were. From the flower girls who maintained posture during High-Mass, Nico displaying his affection through singing and dancing all the way to Mr. Miranda and Mrs. Carey becoming Hollywood Producers.

Once and again, it is a matter of devotion. And hard work. There might be many other ingredients that are as important, but those two can never be absent. As Doctors and as Believers may you always keep those two at hand.

[“Ladies and gentleman, a lady and a gentleman”]

– Yo no quiero que se vayan tan lejos, pero más quiero que sean felices, dijo ella a su hija, a su nuevo hijo. Y lo son. Las ladies y los gentleman siguen la filosofía de serlo. Filosofía en su casa mamada desde la cuna, cimentada como resultado de su encontrarse a sí mismos en el Otro. Golfo Pérsico y Atlántico de por medio les digo, lady and gentleman, ha sido un placer hospedarme brevemente en la morada que son ustedes. No será, espero, la última vez que sea así.

Peter, Naomi: One family. Two people in love equals one family. But is it just one? It may not always be the case, but some times marriage is about the one new family uniting the ones from which they come. The communion of marriage brings about a community, yours. Which means that it was not just the two of you who fell in love, but every member of your new community with each other. And new brothers were made. And new unspoken bonds were formed. And as I was watching you be part of that, I thought of my own family. And what we often forget, you made me remember. For this I thank you dear Naomi, dear Peter. May the wind be on your backs.

Estén siempre embriagados de sí, entre sí. Y cuando la espectacular de lo celebrado termine y quede el recuerdo, inicie aquello para lo cual no se puede – inclusive habría de pensarse que no se debe – planear con tanto detalle: el día-día. Debe igualmente celebrarse, en las buenas, en las amargas, aunque sea bajo improvisación. Para ese día-día hay posibilidad de preparación, hay forma de montar el escenario, cuidar los detalles pero las más de las veces se impone una fuerte dosis de esa improvisación. Y es ahí, en ese espacio creativo donde la oportunidad de ser pareja toma una intensidad diferente. Se tornan en sus propios directores, productores y actores. Son sus extras y sus props. Hay muchas tomas, pero sólo una intención. Acción. Gracias sinceras Ale y Abel por permitirme estar y observar.

¿Y a dónde va uno? ¿a dónde irá el otro? No importa. Irán. Se siguen. Con lo que implica ese irán: seguirse mutuamente. Seguirse juntos.

María y Martín se siguen, y haciéndolo se prolongan ya no como dos puntos de un cuadrante, sino como línea. Eran puntos en sí mismos y al seguirse, al proyectarse juntos, se prolongan convirtiéndose en linea, en ruta. ¿Dirección? Seguir siguiéndose. Seguir, día con día, en el necesario seguimiento del Otro, del Nosotros. Pues es ahí donde radica la clave: en el seguimiento que cada cual hace de sí mismo estando y siendo con el Otro; del Otro que está y es conmigo. Y ahí el reto: hacerlo sin perder por completo dirección de hacia donde se va mientras ambos se siguen. Se seguirán en francés, español e inglés. Por las calles de Francia, o por los atajos de su ser. Gracias por permitirme seguirlos siguiéndose. Madame, Monsieur. Merci et a-dieu (que no es otra cosa que desearles, desde mi ser agnóstico, viento sobre sus espaldas).

Inició el todo por el conocerse-saberse amigo/amiga. Y el tránsito ocurrió sin receta, sin guía, sin agenda hacia ese otro espacio donde para ambos el saberse amado/amada devino del saber, primeramente, que amaban el conocer a ese otro. Sabían que amaban, pero aún no se sabían amado /amada. Pues es posible ser amado sin saberlo, pero nunca será posible amar sin saberlo. Y el amigo/amiga, conociendo al otro empezaron por conocer, quizá reconocer (cual confesión o quizá descubrimiento), que surgia la experiencia, el acto, el descubrimiento de amarlo / amarla. Se supieron como amigo / amiga. Se saben como amantes. Se sabrán siempre en la amistad y en la amancia… Y no hay recetas para ese pan, no hay configuración de mensajes predeterminada acertada. Lo que hay es día a día en un contínuo despertar y dormir recordándose: “amigo” / “amiga”. Ha sido y será un placer saberlos, así: amigo Julio/ amiga Amelia.

 Step, step, step, step. The words themselves say something about a movement. Read them again, read them out loud: step, step, step, tic-tac, tic-tac, tic-tac. And the walk becomes a waltz; a romanza between the one and the one mingled into the two. And the “two” are supposed to follow a compass during their walk and their waltz, but it often happens, when the romanza is such, that their movement becomes the compass: one that dictates the time for each step; one that points towards the horizon into which they walk to. And you are black and white, asymmetry, contrast. And when thought from this perspective, marriage, your marriage, is not the next step but a consequence of yours.
