After a long day running through and picking out favourites, I have finally selected my favourite images from each of the weddings I shot in 2011. Some are emotive, some are funny, some have layers of depth, and some just have great light. It was heartbreaking to leave some of the other shots out of this top 40, but I’ve gone with my gut feeling and instinct to arrive at the final selection.

Just select your favourite from the 40 shown below and cast your vote at the bottom of the page. The poll will run for two weeks until midnight on Sunday the 19th February and the bride and groom whose image wins will get a FREE framed fine art print of their choice.

The theme of the day was Narnia (or The Lion, The Witch & The Wardrobe). The reception was held in a converted chicken shed with a marquee inside the building and to enter the marquee, you had to walk through a wardrobe, and you were then greeted with an enormous Lion before entering the main reception area. A winter wonderland then awaited, white everywhere, frosted table decorations and even a pair of live snow king & queen statues to entertain the guests. Alex’s friend, the extremely talented singer/songwriter Molly Smitten Downes, performed a specially written song for Alex & Tim before the meal and we were then thoroughly entertained to a great set of speeches and some hilarious comedy video from Tim’s pals at his local pub, chip shop and golf club.

Massive kudos to Alex for organising all of this, to come up with the idea is one thing, but to actually carry it off in such a successful way is another completely. Enjoy the pics below…

The rest of the day carried on in the same vein, throwing up some very challenging low-light conditions, but the flash only came out for the group formals which were carried out in one of the grand rooms at Rushton Hall. I do love the challenge that shooting winter weddings throws up, they are completely different to summer weddings for several reasons, the obvious one being the limited amount of daylight you have to work with, but also for the quality of the light when the sun is so low in the sky. The sun came out briefly during the bridal prep in the morning, helping to create some lovely lighting but unfortunately retired behind cloud cover for the rest of the afternoon.
