In my previous post we talked about Guru’s, Mentor’s, Business Opportunities and Time Management, a firm understanding of which, is fundamental to any online business or Network Marketer, as these will be the bedrock on which you build your Home Based Business!

So for the sake of this post we might just look a little deeper into these!

The Guru –

By Definition The Guru  from the Sanskrit as One who is regarded as having great knowledge, wisdom and authority in a certain area, and uses it to guide others (teacher). Other forms of manifestation of this principle can include parents, school teachers and non human objects such as books. –Wikipedia-

Whilst this does hold true by definition to the network marketing or home business Guru, it has been my experience, that the online guru will impart only so much ‘wisdom’ at any one time! Whilst some marketers are smart enough to read between the lines and manage to create a successful online business from the information these Guru’s impart, by and large this marketing ‘training’ they impart (usually at a cost) is just enough for you to stumble through the maze whilst waiting for the next ‘pearl of wisdom’

Don’t get me wrong, I am not saying that these people are just out to scam you, Their membership’s and site’s are full of valuable information.

What I am saying is, at what stage, do stop spending money in an attempt to make money, if you get my drift.

The Mentor –

“Mentoring” is a process that involves communication and is relationship based, but, it’s precise definition is elusive. One Definition of the many that have been proposed is:

Mentoring is a process for the informal transmission of knowledge, social capital, and psychological support,  perceived, by the recipient as relevant to work, career, or professional development, usually over a sustained period of time by a person who is perceived to have a greater relevant knowledge, wisdom, or experience (the mentor) and a person who is perceived to have less (the protégé) –Wikipedia-

So there you have the difference by definition between a ‘Guru’ and a ‘Mentor’ I think you might a agree here that to those new to network marketing and running their own home based business, though both have their intrinsic value the ‘mentor’ is of greater value. This is increasingly true if your ‘Mentor’ is also your Business opportunity sponsor. As most business opportunities are dependant on, referring/sponsoring and building a down line, it becomes in your ‘Mentors’ best interest to ensure that you are successful in building your own business as soon as possible, primarily because his/her success is based on ensuring you succeed! To this end it becomes of primary importance to those new to home based business, or network marketing that you do your homework and find a ‘mentor’ who’s network marketing business is a good fit for them. This is called ‘doing your due diligence’!

Talk with your prospective mentor, research his/her business find out as much information about the two before making your decision as to which course of action you wish to take.

But once having done that and you feel comfortable with that, the next step is to ‘Take Action”  As nothing happens without ‘Action’

Your choice of Mentor and business opportunity are one thing, but once that decision is made, there is nothing neither your mentor nor your business opportunity can do for you if you are not prepared to take ‘Action’

Time Management –

As stated in my last post Time management skills are of paramount importance to every network marketer! Most especially when you are first starting out. As most new marketers are going to initially be part time (very few new to it can afford to just toss in their day jobs and concentrate 100% on their business).

Therefore it is important to sit down and think about how much time per day you can afford to dedicate to your business. Write it down, than discuss it with those around you so that they get a clear picture that it is this particular parcel of time that is dedicated to building your business. Discuss why you are doing this so that they get a clearer understanding of exactly why this time is yours, be that you are attempting to build something that will in the end allow you to spend more quality time with them.

Now that you have those parameters set, what is required here is to break it down into parcels or portions of time!

How much time, are you prepared to invest in your education? That’s right education……

Successful network marketers will all agree that 90% of their success is achieving the right mindset, which takes a bit of reeducation, you need to investigate and become fully conversant with your business opportunity, it’s compensation plan, and how it works. Nothing will drive potential business partners away quicker than talking with some one who is not fully conversant with their business opportunity and how it works.

This is also a time to be developing your business plan. Where do you see your business in 3 months, 6 months, 12 months.

How do you plan to get there? It takes planned consistent Action. No successful business, online or bricks and mortar will survive much less succeed without a structured plan, to not have a plan will just have you flailing around in the jungle, with a hit or miss mentality.

At first your reeducation will probably take up the bulk of your allocated time, but do not underestimate the value of this time as it will be the foundation on which you build your home based business, remember, Rome was not built in a day, and nor will your business, to think otherwise will surely lead to failure and you eventually quitting.

Read, sit in on webinars, ask questions, discuss it with your mentor, but be respectful, and remember that your mentor is also building a business too, and as much as he/she is there to guide you, you do not want to become annoying instead become resourceful. If your mentor points you in the right direction you should be able to find more than enough information to help, just be aware of information overload, do not go scurrying all over the internet to find a mountain of information, just find the stuff you need and study that.

Conclusion –

So, with all the above taken into account, it is time for Action. Make your decision do you take the route of the Guru, or the Mentor.

Research and choose your Business Opportunity. Of paramount importance here especially for the beginner marketer, is took for low startup costs, and residual compensation, that is do the work once and continue to be paid.

Choose your business opportunity, do your due diligence, make you decision, FOCUS and Take ACTION!

Still…

…they’re pretty cool.

** We got this ‘Mystery Man‘ away from his family for a little over an hour, and drilled him on the secret ‘marketing science’ that allowed him to scale a business part time to a level that almost nobody has ever done full time – you can listen, download, and play it in your car if you’re an Inner Circle Member.

Who is it?  Lawrence Tam.

That statement (the title) is from launch date on October 31st, 2011 until now, December 26th, 2011 – I think that’s 56 days, or somewhere within a day or two.

Here’s why Lawrence Tam is a bit different:

Because he doesn’t even want to quit his job.

He really just wants to take the ‘pressure’ off a bit from work, so he started marketing online a couple of years back, part time in the evenings.

He was one of the original trainers in the Costa Rica Mastermind Intensive Series (see video #5 on this page - it’s really good)

He also was one of the first people to buy everything here at Empower Network.

He launched with us, and worked his butt off part time in the evenings…

…hoping to make an extra $5,000 or so – and somehow ‘accidentally‘ became our #1 income earner.

How?

Honestly, I’ve been a bit perplexed by it – I mean, I’ve worked together with Lawrence for over a year and a half now, and I’ve seen him market…

…he’s really the definition of what ‘average’ is all about.

Somehow, though – this part time Dad produces WAY more than average results.

His results – to be honest, are absolutely extraordinary.

For the last six weeks since launch, we’ve been wanting to get Lawrence Tam in the Inner Circle, and it’s been tough…

…because every time I call him – he’s on vacation, out to dinner with his gorgeous wife, spending time with his kids – or at his job.

I’m not kidding, this guy has to know something…

..because let me tell you something I’ve learned:

In the marketing game – there is no such thing as luck like this.

Why do I say that?

Because although yes, sometimes you get a bit ‘lucky’ here and there… Luck NEVER produces consistent results.

Ever.

Luck is a manifestation of math over large, large numbers.  In other words – as an example, if you are recruiting affiliates, one in about 1,000 of them will be ‘super affiliates‘ no matter what you do…

…if you want to have ‘luck’ in any kind of direct sales business – whether it’s Amway, Herbalife, Pre Paid Legal, or whatever it is you’re selling – the easiest way to be ‘lucky’ is to get 1,000 affiliates (you could have 5,000 customers – I’m talking people who want to make money here).

Sometimes, you’ll see someone lucky – and you’ll know it, because they can never do it again.

Sometimes – you seem someone who appears to get lucky all the time.

When you see that – calm down – they are NOT lucky.  They know something that you don’t know, work harder than you work, maybe invest more into their education, maybe plan a little harder in the morning.

Listen in – lean forward, and pay attention.

Take notes – apply what you learn.

This is what you should do with Lawrence Tam.

Why?

Because in the last 9 years of being involved in Network Marketing, I have NEVER seen someone make as much money as Lawrence does part time.

I didn’t think it was possible.

Apparently, it is.  Lawrence has ran the ‘four minute mile‘ in the network marketing industry – and set a new trend of success.

I believe he has set a new standard for success

One I believe that someone else can repeat.

If they listen in, lean in – and pay attention.

The great thing about interviews like this one, is that no matter who you are, what you’re doing, what your ‘core’ business is, or what you want to do with your life…

…you can apply the concepts in this audio and create more success in your life.

Digress a little here and tell you about a telephone conversation I had just a

Few days back that I would like to share here! You will see my point here as I

get further in as it cuts straight to the heart of what Network Marketing and

Making money online is all about……….

Apart from the usual encounter with Amway many years back, as many of us do, I was introduced to the world of network marketing some 6 years back, by answering an add in my local newspaper. This lead me to a woman who was a representative of what was at that stage known as Liberty League, as I listened to her spiel the more I heard the more I felt that it wasn’t for me as she was coming on like some sort of used car salesman and something just didn’t feel right. The conversation finished with me promising to look into it, do my due diligence so to speak.

As I have said it just didn’t feel right, but I went ahead and investigated the opportunity and in the process came across a woman by the name of Michelle Buckley, I mention her name for reason’s that will become plain later in this post.

You Need To Resonate with Your Mentor!

Needless to say, something about Michelle and her business opportunity resonated with me and I went on to join her.

That was some 6 years back now, and although neither of us are still involved in the same business we have gone on to become firm friends, and keep in touch on a regular basis. In Fact it was a phone call from Michelle the day before Xmas that has prompted me to write this post.

As with all new product or business opportunities there is always a huge rush of excitement and activity and this was nothing different. People were climbing on board at an astonishing rate, some of us made money, some if us didn’t, some went on to do very well and still are. However over the years there has been an attrition rate of members just opting out, and others that simply moved on.

This brings me to the heart of the telephone conversation with Michelle a few days back.

Michelle, made a simple observation, that out of that HUGE flurry of activity, by all those people 5-6 years back there remained dedicated core of people that have remained active in their various activities.

The comment from Michelle that started me thinking of writing this post was ‘I feel grateful to have been able to watch these people and their respective journeys’! And that started me thinking!

Although we may have all gone on different journeys, we have stayed in touch and watched and supported each other’s growth and endeavors.

This brings me to the point of the post, as time goes by in this industry it becomes less and less about the money. Sure the money side of it is important, we all got into this in the first place to make money and to change our lives for the better, by becoming financially free! To DO BE and HAVE all we want and to be able to have the time for our loved ones.

But what has become more important is the Relationships we have made along the way, this is what network marketing IS all about! Without the trust, and the relationships, there is no growth, there is no business, there is no money.

People, do not follow opportunities, they follow people. To truly build your online empire as a something that will last, something you can pass on to your kids, it’s all about building lasting relationships, it’s about becoming someone of Value to your Team, a leader that Empower’s and Uplifts his or her team on to bigger and better lives!

Be Grateful For Life’s Pleasures!

It truly has been a pleasure, to, over the years get to know and watch the personal growth of these and other wonderful people I have come across. And sure, there is nothing to be ashamed of in the pursuit of income in Network Marketing, but never lose sight of the fact that the truly successful Network Marketer, The Leader is in the Relationships built with people, people may join you, but if you do not grow and prosper as people, if you see them purely as an income opportunity, you will be continuously chasing them, or they will just simply flounder and stop following, and where does that leave you as a Network Marketer.

In Conclusion!

As I have said Michelle and I resonated all those years back and she not only became my Mentor but a firm lifelong friend for whom I have developed a deep love and respect for! And that is a relationship that has become stronger over the years. That is what all network marketers should be striving for, to become that person of value that people will follow. Become that person, and watch your business grow like nothing you ever imagined.

3 TIPS FOR THE NETWORK MARKETING ‘NEWBIE’

Lets face it Network Marketing can be a minefield of information, Business

Opportunities and pitfalls. Many ‘Newbie” marketers just give up under

the sheer weight of information overload,  Many others, spend countless $$

On this Ecourse and that CD set or the ultimate EBook all promising to make

them immediate ‘Money Online’ only to find it just simply does not happen!

In this and subsequent posts and articles, I will try to clear up some of the misconceptions that people fall into, and help avoid the burnout factor.

Tip # 1 – BEWARE THE INTERNET GURU

Whilst there are many, many, Network Marketing Guru’s out there some, good, some, bad. Some that are dubbed by their peers some self proclaimed, they all have one common thread, they all have something to sell. Are they interested in your success? Well the short answer to this…. Not Really! Their interest lies in their own self interest, and that is to keep you ‘On the Hook’ so to speak so that they can sell you their latest course, or the greatest software to hit the industry since Ganghis Kahn! Every product they have will reveal only so much so you keep coming back for the follow up or the next installment, and whilst you keep spending $$ on ‘learning the secrets’ they are driving to the bank. I am not saying they are all like this what I am saying is you need to do your homework, be wary, IF it sounds too good to be true, it probably is!

SO to get to Tip # 1

Rather than poor dollar after dollar into something that very rarely will bring you the returns you desire, find yourself someone who is ‘At The Coalface’ simply doing it and making money online, someone who is living the dream and is not only prepared to hold your hand and help you to succeed but has a vested interest in your success. You cannot do it on your own over the years I have found ‘Network Marketing’ to be not so much about the immediate money promised but about the relationships that go along with it. Find your self a mentor, but find yourself the right one, one that resonates with you, and not only follow him/her but duplicate what they are doing than you will find true success. But understand it will NOT happen overnight, all good things take time to build if you want them to stand the test of time, also remember the term “network” it’s all about the team.

Tip # 2 – TIME MANAGEMENT

Time Management is Critical when it comes to a home business. It is way too easy to become distracted!

Turn off FACEBOOK, Shut down MySpace, turn off Twitter and set your self,  a schedule, whilst the previous sites can, and will, become useful tools in your marketing skills in the beginning until your schedule and time management  skills become ingrained they can be a distraction.

Set yourself a time schedule that is comfortable with you and those around you, and stick to it! Spend this time researching, finding that right business opportunity for you, finding that mentor that is the right fit for you, 9 times out of 10 you will find the 2 usually go hand in hand. Do your homework, research the business, make sure it is

1) Ethical, nothing worse than getting involved in a scam, quickest way to lose all credibility

2) It is something you believe in, as with all things it is difficult to sell/promote something that you do not believe in, believe me if you are speaking with someone in the hope of referring them if you do not believe firmly in your opportunity they WILL pick up on that

3) Know your business…. Spend the time getting to know your business…. What it is all about, how it works, understand the compensation plan and the products

All part of your time management plan, Understand your business and understand your market

Once you have become comfortable with this you can than sit down with a your mentor and develop a marketing plan, with a plan and schedule in place less time is wasted and that time that you do spend on your business is well spent……

So Tip # 2

Have a plan and a schedule! Your time is valuable and with this in place you will gain more value from your time.

Tip # 3 – Develop Your Marketing Plan

Initially you will want to keep this as cheap as possible until you start generating an income. If you have chosen the appropriate Business Opportunity it should be complete with a back office that is full of tips and tricks to help you along these lines, and again if you have chosen the appropriate Mentor he/she should be ‘all over this’ because they will have already found a lot of them.

There are many free advertising sites out there on the net, we will get into these in later posts, but suffice to say that any good marketing plan should involve these.

Again, going back to Tip # 2 you need to research how much time it will take to use these, the trick here is in the duplication there are ways and means available to do multiple tasks just once, again topics we will get into in later posts.

For the sake of this post initially you need a plan, what are you going to do, where are you going to aim it (your Niche) and what is your budget, this is were your mentor can help, so maybe schedule a brainstorming session with him/her to help develop this.

As you develop this be clear, concise, realistic and above all else write it down!

And than ACT on it, spend a certain time each day implementing it, and as time goes by and you begin generating an income review your budget a good rule of thumb is to reinvest 20% of your income into generating more business more leads hence more income.

So Tip # 3

Have a business plan, remember what you have is a business, and that is how you must treat it !

CONCLUSION:

If you are looking at Network Marketing and Making Money Online, you need to find your mentor, and your Business Opportunity and focus on it, at a later date when you have realized your dream and are making an income online you can look at branching out and creating multiple income streams. BUT initially FOCUS on your primary business, and understand it is just what it say’s a BUSINESS, and to truly succeed it must be treated as such, FOCUS, PERSISTANCE, and CONSISTANCY will see you win out in the end, and remember that it will not happen overnight. The internet is littered with marketers who gave up when success was potentially just around the corner.

In later post we will get into some of the ways and means of marketing your business, both on and offline and we will discuss some of the tools and sites that can be of use, some free, some cheap, but all invaluable.

Ask a question and most people will answer you–when they answer you. You just made a connection. On line or off. New connections is how you build a networking empire and income. – The 3 Magic Words to a person in business–How is business–to a stranger how are you–This opens the door for further communications–Personal communications is the king of all marketing. Every person has a list and talent or talents superior to yours.

So you can get paid by doing what you have been doing your in entire life, strike up conversations make friends and tell them about your business. So you ask questions about them their business, so you can tell them about you and your business. The best communicator with the best business wins. (MyNetworkingPro Is The Best)

Go to social sites read the profiles and ask questions about what they say in their profile- Classifieds the same–on the street the same. They will answer you and you made a connection and invite them to join for free to promote them and their business.

Let common sense be your guide–

Is this time consuming yes–and that is the number one reason why most people should run from here is my primary and here is my secondary businesses. Multiple streams is simple not a good idea for most. It takes time to build personal relationships. If you do it another way they will join you in a good company and simply go away–because on–line everyone is getting hit with every neat idea there is–personal relationships, helping others, is the cement that keeps them with you.

Here is a real example–recently I went to Wally Mart. It was late and the greater, wearing a blue bib with a smiley face on it, said welcome. I said how are things going and he said it could be worse and told me half his life story. He said last year he was a construction manager $185,000 a year. Now 8 bucks an hr, feeding the kids. I gave him a card and asked to join the face book for business and he did. He knows a lot of people and is more computer literate than I. NEVER PREJUDGE ANYONE. I asked a question and got this fellows list and talent. He did most of the talking. You can be a great net worker for listening.

The same on line–Read their their profile–social sites or an ad in a classifieds. Get as personal as the information allows.

A real example–Hi Sue how are things going in Riverside CA–I was there years ago. How well are you doing with Avon. One big company for sure. (I know the average Avon Lady earns $45 A month. Your knowledge puts you in the drivers seat)

Sue emailed me and said I have have been with Avon for 3 years I love the products. Please take a look. (I did)

The above social networking method is so powerful I became a 7fig earner. Any one can master this. I burned the midnight oil. I wanted financial freedom. Not extra money. I did this over and over again. I taught others and now you.

How does that definition of crazy go. Do something over and over again with little to no result. Here is my definition. I think it is pure lunacy to wake up to the dreaded alarm clock drive, like crazy, in rush hr traffic to a dead end job over and over again. At least you get Sat and Sunday off to fix this, fix that and do the lawn:)

10 questions you should ask yourself: a preparation to self-improvement

Be all you can be, but there is always more!  But of course it’s hard to think of anything else when there are real issues to be discussed.

Still I aspire for something deeper and more meaningful.

So we’re all pelted with problems. Honestly it shouldn’t even bother or even hinder us to becoming all we ought to be. Aspirations as kids should continue to live within us, even though it would be short-lived or as long as we could hold on to the dream. They say you can’t teach an old dog new tricks or can they?

1. What do I really want?

The question of the ages. So many things you want to do with your life and so little time to even go about during the day.

Finding something that you are good at can help realize that small step towards improvement. Diligence is the key to know that it is worth it.

2. Should I really change?

Today’s generation has taken another level of redefining ‘self’, or at least that’s what the kids are saying. Having an army of teenage nieces and nephews has taught me that there are far worse things that they could have had than acne or maybe even promiscuity. So how does that fit into your lifestyle?

If history has taught us one thing, it’s the life that we have gone through. Try to see if partying Seventies style wouldn’t appeal to the younger generation, but dancing is part of partying. Watch them applaud after showing them how to really dance than break their bones in break-dancing.

3. What’s the bright side in all of this?

With so much happening around us there seems to be no room for even considering that light at the end of the tunnel. We can still see it as something positive without undergoing so much scrutiny. And if it’s a train at the end of the tunnel, take it for a ride and see what makes the world go round!

4. Am I comfortable with what I’m doing?

There’s always the easy way and the right way when it comes to deciding what goes with which shoes, or purse, shirt and whatnot. It doesn’t take a genius to see your self as someone unique, or else we’ll all be equally the same in everything we do. Variety brings in very interesting and exciting questions to be experimented.

5. Have I done enough for myself?

Have you, or is there something more you want to do? Discontentment in every aspect can be dangerous in large doses, but in small amounts you’ll be able to see and do stuff you could never imagine doing.

6. Am I happy at where I am today?

It’s an unfair question so let it be an answer! You love being a good and loving mom or dad to your kids, then take it up a notch! Your kids will love you forever. The same goes with everyday life!

7. Am I appealing to the opposite sex?

So maybe I don’t have an answer to that, but that doesn’t mean I can’t try it, though. Whether you shape-up, change the way you wear your clothes or hair, or even your attitude towards people, you should always remember it will always be for your own benefit.

8. How much could I have?

I suppose in this case there is no such things on having things too much or too little, but it’s more on how badly you really need it. I’d like to have lots of money, no denying that, but the question is that how much are you willing to work for it?

9. What motivates me?

What motivates you? It’s an answer you have to find out for yourself. There are so many things that can make everyone happy, but to choose one of them may be the hardest part. It’s not like you can’t have one serving of your favorite food in a buffet and that’s it. Just try it piece by piece.

10. What Really Makes You Tick?

So? What really makes you tick? You can be just about anything you’ve always wanted to be, but to realize that attaining something that may seem very difficult is already giving up before you even start that journey. Always remember, that self-improvement is not just about the physical or philosophical change you have to undergo, but it’s something that you really want.
