Today I am testing out the My6sense Android app.

It’s a free app that’s available at the Android Marketplace, which means it’s easy to download and install onto your Android-based cellphone.

I’m using it on a Motorola Droid (the original Droid).

Firstly, after installation I set up a my6sense account.   There were then five buttons presented to me on the screen.

The largest one in the middle labeled ‘My Content’ is already pre-populated with some content that my6sense deem that you may like. This included articles from Mashable and ReadWriteWeb among others.
Grayed out to start with are smaller buttons for Twitter, Google Buzz, Facebook, and Streams.

The First three, after you set up your accounts in the app, give you your content from those services, but with a difference.

To quote from my6sense’s press release:

‘Unlike other applications, which rely on editorial input, social referrals, or popularity, the my6sense smart reader application intuitively senses what’s important to each user and prioritizes content for everyone as an individual — making content consumption seamless, efficient, and most importantly, personally relevant.’

In other words,  and it’s early days for me to see how well this works,  the ‘Digital Intuition’ technology that my6sense uses will sense what I personally read and present me with that content first.

The last smaller button marked ‘streams’ allows me to add an unlimited number of RSS feeds, or other social media streams, and again I will receive the most relevant content rather than everything in time order.
Having said that a simple menu choice on the phone allows me to change ‘relevance’ to ‘time order’ if I wish to go back to the standard way of doing things.

It’s also easy to add replies to tweets, and make comments in Buzz, and Facebook.

So far, the only issue that I’ve encountered is a failure for the app to import my Google Reader OPML file.

Still, if you’ve got an Android based phone, or you have an iPhone,  and you, like many, often feel overwhelmed by the amount of information in your social media streams, I recommend that you give this app a try.

I have a smartphone. I have SkypeIn/Out. I don’t have a landline, Not had one for over 6 years now. Had Vonage for a while, but Skype is cheaper. I have Google Voice.

Now let’s see. I have a GV number, a cellphone number, Three SkypeIn numbers. (I use Skype for business – and I have an East Coast, a West Coast, and a UK number, that I give to family and friends there, so they can call from UK to US free).

It is a mess though really. Even with all those numbers, I don’t really spend much time on the phone. Much of the time I have the cellphone on silent, or the buzz, warbling from Tweets, Buzzes, and IM’s is too distracting, and you have to look don’t you?

For business I much prefer email – I have a written trail. I chat to many friends on Twitter. I don’t even use regular text much – here in the US I seem to get too many people complaining that they just got charged 25 cents for the one I just sent them, so I don’t bother.

I use IM to some extent, and at least with Google Talk there’s a log. However, when you’re busy, IM is almost as disruptive and work-stopping as the phone.

I don’t have an iPod (or an i-anything for that matter), and my only mp3 player is a little Sansa 1GB. I use that on the rare occasions I want to listen to local FM Radio, but I usually either listen to my own mp3s or more often than not I stream one of the many Internet radio stations out there.

With a 16GB card in my Droid, I can keep a decent few hours of music on it, but it’s nice to have something more random too.

After looking around I found DroidLive, which has recently become XiiaLive. It’s a great multi format player.

It plays aac, aac+ mp3 mp4 and mpeg, with other formats under development. Works with 3G and wi-fi. Includes a timer, so you can set it to go to sleep to, if you wish.

I use my Droid with a Moto HT820 Bluetooth headset, and the sound quality is quite acceptable.

Pull up a Command prompt. (Start, and then type CMD in the search box).

At the prompt itself, type: copy /b test.txt +,,

where text.txt is the filename whose modified date you wish to Change.
