Immediately I thought of this picture of my best friend when I saw the theme for this weeks I Heart Faces contest, "Got To Wear Shades".

We had spent the entire day hanging out at Laguna Beach in California. After much begging, she let me snap a few pics of her as I needed to practice taking pictures at the beach.

I titled this picture fierce, because she is infatuated with sharks, Great Whites to be exact. She looked fierce starring out into the ocean, though she was probably just looking to see a shark fin somewhere out there!

This will be my first time entering into the i ♥ faces contest! So this will be interesting to see what it's like! My entry is from a mock wedding shoot that I was just at on Saturday. The theme was a vintage wedding. The location was in Temecula, California. The owner had a couple of cool cars so the models posed with them. So here is a shot that I loved, and it has yellow! Ok so I think I just learned how to link a text! Let's test out what I just learned!
The website I referred to earlier is "The Coffee Tea Blog". You have to check it out. Rita, the author of the blog, has a ton of free downloads for photoshop. You will find all kinds of cool photoshop actions, textures, storyboards, tutorials and more!
By the way it was so simple to learn to link a text! In case you're like me and you are just learning how to do all this, check out page this page that had simple directions how to do it!
So my son is standing over my shoulder and said in shock "You just learned how to link a text?" Sadly, he wasn't impressed. My newly turned 13 year old already knew how to do this. Guess I should of went to him first. Well let's publish this post and see if it worked!!!

I am still trying to learn how to work this blogger blog. I just learned how to do the link bar above! Though it is still not finished! I also learned how to do the flash header. So exciting! I found some awesome tutorials on Rita's blog at http://www.coffeeteaphotography.blogspot.com/ Next thing I really want to learn... how to make a link to a website! LOL!
Well until next time...hopefully it won't be so long again!
P.S. can't wait to reveal my new logo!!!!

It's Been Awhile

It's been so long since I've done much with photography that I don't know where to start! I haven't had a computer for the longest time since my laptop died. And I'm still waiting for it to be repaired. Yes I said laptop! I know I should at least have a desktop but really I need a mac. But these days times are tough so I gotta do with what I got. So in the meantime I can't upload, edit or post any pics. How can you possibly be a photographer these days and not have a computer? I've been listening to podcasts and reading as much free info about photography while I wait. So I'm done whining, just wanted to practice with the blog again because I'm gonna post about a contest so I can try to win a better camera. Wish me luck!

SoCal Photog Shootout 8-29-09

The date was highlighted in pink and written in with Sharpie on my calendar so I could see it from across the room. The day was August 29th, 2009 that I was anxiosly awaiting. I had signed up for my very first photography experience with a group called SoCal Photog Shootout. I would be meeting up with 50 very talented photographers to photograph models at Irvine Regional Park in Orange County, CA. The theme was High Fashion and the day was miserably hot! I know the models had to of been thinking a bikini beach shoot sounds a whole lot better.

I arrived with camera gear, butterflies in my stomach and no experience with something like this. I reassured myself that even if my pictures came out completely black that just being there was a big accomplishment. That took a whole lot of pressure off!

It was an awesome day ending with dinner, raffle prizes (none of which I won) new friends, and some cool pictures!

Perfection leads to Procrastination

"You can never get much of anything done unless you go ahead and do it before you are ready."

I once heard someone say, "Perfection leads to procrastination", and all of the sudden I had that cartoon light bulb above my head moment. I thought to myself, this is the reason I never get anything accomplished. I demand perfection from myself and if I have not mastered whatever it is I am trying to do, I won't do it all. Well I can tell you where that kind of thinking has gotten me in one word..."nowhere".

I will use my photography for example; if I don't know everything there is to know about photography then I definitely will not dare take someones picture. How could I give them a picture if it's not "straight out of a magazine" quality? How can I even begin to edit pictures if I don't understand Photoshop inside and out? I guess my children will forever remain JPEG's, my camera will never leave its cushy bag and my Photoshop CS4 will become quickly outdated. This is the way I'm used to thinking.

So how is it that you are reading this blog and seeing pictures on this post? Well I changed my way of thinking as of just a few months ago! I told myself, if I don't at least start somewhere I will never get anywhere or any better. So I made a decision, I recently challenged myself and ventured outside of my comfort zone to a photography get together with 50 other photographers! And as of last night I just started to learn how to create a blog; and here is the first post!

So I ask you, "Are you doing what you really want to be doing in life?" Or is something like perfection or self doubt holding you back? Don't under estimate yourself! Perfection leads to procrastination, but PRACTICE MAKES PERFECT!!!
