More than 500 Attendees Gathered at the Fourth Annual DuPage County Regional Business Outlook Event

Lisle, Ill. – On Tuesday, May 7 Choose DuPage along with Ice Miller LLP and Mesirow Financial hosted the DuPage County Regional Business Outlook at Drury Lane in Oak Brook, Ill. Local business owners, government leaders and other members of DuPage County’s business community gathered to listen to insights about current regional, national and global economic conditions.

Dan Cronin, chairman of the DuPage County Board, opened the event by honoring the newly elected municipal leaders. Following Cronin, Diane Swonk, chief economist and senior managing director at Mesirow Financial, discussed the nation’s current financial outlook.

“Fundamental corporate tax reform can get us where we need to go,” said Swonk. Swonk’s colleague and Deputy Chief Economist at Mesirow Financial, Adolfo Laurenti, discussed the European financial crisis and its effect on American business partners throughout the nation. “It’s important the U.S. understands the [global] landscape and looks for opportunities to partner with success,” shared Laurenti.

The event continued with a panel discussion led by President and CEO of Choose DuPage, Greg Bedalov. The panel featured local business leaders Chuck Allen, CEO of Crowe Horwath, Kevin Giglinto, vice president of the Chicago Symphony Orchestra Association, Chris Sears, partner at Ice Miller LLP and Scott Hoekman, CFO of UICO, LLC. The panel discussed various topics including the economy, DuPage County government, taxes, innovation, medical reform and entrepreneurship.

Following the panel discussion, the keynote speaker sponsor, PNC introduced Tom Ricketts, chairman of the Chicago Cubs and chairman/CEO of Incapital LLC. Staying consistent with the event’s theme of moving forward and acting now, Ricketts revealed his restoration and renovation plans for Wrigley Field. Ricketts said he is confident the project will move forward and forecasts that the Chicago Cubs will just get better and better with time.

The event concluded with the Comcast Business Networking Reception where guests met, mingled and spoke with the featured speakers.

Babbitt Bolsters Ice Miller’s Gaming Practice: Experienced Gaming Veteran Strengthens Two Key Practices

INDIANAPOLIS – Ice Miller LLP welcomes highly regarded attorney Robin Babbitt, who joins the Firm as a partner practicing with both the Litigation and Public Affairs and Gaming groups. Babbitt’s addition further strengthens the firm’s Gaming Practice. Babbitt joins Jack Thar in the Firm’s Indianapolis office and John Oberle of the Firm’s Columbus, Ohio, office by providing clients with comprehensive gaming counsel and boosting Ice Miller’s Midwest presence in gaming and racing.

“Robin has a deep understanding of the racing and gaming industries, providing leadership and wise counsel to us for many years,” said Joe Gorajec, executive director of the Indiana Horse Racing Commission.

Most recently, Babbitt was a partner in a major Indianapolis law firm, where he represented the Indiana Horse Racing Commission. He also focused on business litigation, administrative law and products liability. Thar has experience as the former executive director of the Indiana Gaming Commission, which regulates casinos, and has been serving top gaming clients at Ice Miller since 2003. Oberle has been a major figure in Ohio gaming law since 2004. He was lead counsel to the 2009 campaign in Ohio to authorize casino gaming and has been involved in every facet of Ohio gaming.

"Robin's background as an adept litigator and his wealth of experience in the gaming industry reinforces Ice Miller's longstanding strengths in these two areas," stated Phil Bayt, chief managing partner, Ice Miller. "His leadership and knowledge will add tremendous value to the Firm's platform.”

Ice Miller Ranks in National Survey of Private Equity Law Firms

Indianapolis – Ice Miller LLP is recognized as the 7th most active law firm in the nation based on the number of private equity and venture capital funds worked on for general partners and limited partners that had a final close in 2012, according to the April 2013 issue of the Private Equity Analyst, a publication of Dow Jones. Strengthens the Firm's Government Enforcement, Investigations and Corporate Compliance practice

Indianapolis, Ind. – Lu Carole West, a former senior director and assistant general counsel of Eli Lilly and Company, has joined Ice Miller LLP as one of the leaders of the law firm's Government Enforcement, Investigations and Corporate Compliance practice. She will team with other attorneys at Ice Miller, including former assistant U. S. Attorneys, state level assistant attorneys general, prosecutors and a former director of enforcement for the Ohio Division of Securities, who provide a multi-disciplinary approach to addressing clients' needs in this burgeoning area of the law.

Prior to joining Eli Lilly, West had been in private practice for several years, had served as a law clerk for the Indiana Court of Appeals and was on the staff of the U.S. House of Representatives Committee on Small Business.
