Icelands national court on former prime minister ,could be stopped by Parliament

Parliaments Prosecutor issued an indictment against Geir H. Haarde, former Prime Minister on Tuesday.
A list of prosecution witnesses is pretty interesting but the main Heavyweight people in government and officials of Bank system when the banks were on its side in 2008.
The national court will start proceidings on the 7th of june .
But now the Member of parliament and chairman of the independence party ,is trying to get parliament to stop the indictment against the Former Prime Minister.
Many think that during the courts procedings,that the more information will come up.
And many members of parliament , in all parties,do not want to open that .
The witness list includes,former minister,CEO´s of the central bank and more .
They could get questions ,that could open more bad information on the banking crash in 2008.

I went to enjoy some local culture .
I enjoyed some classical music at the new concert and convention building - The Harp.
The Icelandic Symphony was being conducted by the British conductor,Mr. Carl Davis.

And i think you will enjoy the classical peace ---
The Harp is a beutiful building - and you can see that i am quite high on the balconys.
The symphony was playing music from the James Bond films.
and James Bond is based on Ian Flemmings friend , William Stephenson ----and William was of Icelandic origins .
If you google William Stephenson ,you can see how he is connected to Bond.

New years fireworks in Iceland - video and photos

No,this is not a video of a bad day in Texas ,this how Icelanders celebrate New Year .
Everybody buys fireworks ,and in a great Unorginized fashion,we go out just before midnight and fire up the fireworks.
Does not matter is you have had a few Beers or something stronger,does not matter.
First familys eat dinner together,then everybody in Iceland ,yes ,everybody,watches a tv show , that has been on between 22:30 to 23:30 ,where they make fun of what has happened this year.
And then after the tv show ---- we all go out , with our glasses and/or our bottles,fireworks , and start shooting up.

Lots of snow in Reykjavik today - video and photos

The Winter made a grand entrance today ( dec. 29 ) and dumped lots of snow in Iceland , and expecially in the capital ,Reykjavik.
I was this morning helping and getting helped by fellow citicens,pushingcars out of snowbanks.
You can see on the video cars getting free from parking spots .

Protest in Iceland , and short days ,video

Now is the season of short day here in Iceland .
It gets colder and the snow makes arrives.
Last saturday there was a small protest meeting in front of the Parliament building,and also some live music.
The weather was very cold,freezing at around minus 10 on the celcius,and windy.
Banks are still writing off big debts ,that big companys had,but the public must pay all.
The public gets little help from the banks and/or goverment.
Many have moved to other countries to get a better life.

Looks like it does not matter what political party you vote for ,the never keep their campaign promises.
It is very difficult to respect members of parliament here in Iceland .
Many members of parlament have got the bubble loans written off and dont have to pay anything,and at the same time ,many voters are loosing their houses.

CEO of Glitnir bank in Iceland in jail ,Lárus Welding

Three former CEO´s of Glitnir ,one of the banks that collapsed in 2008 ,are now in custody and being interogated by the Special Prosecutor .
About 30 individuals have also been interogated by the Specila Prosecutor office .
The investigation is because of alleged market manipulations by the CEO´s of Glitnir Bank.
Also to be interogated mr. Bjarni Ármannsson former CEO of Glitnir Bank.
Mr. Lárus Welding also former CEO of Glitnir Bank is now in custody .

Occupy Iceland in front of parliament in Reykjavik - photos and videos

Occupy Iceland is its tents in front of the Parliament building in Reykjavik.
There they stay ,and talk to people .
Many members of parliamen do not like having the Occupy Iceland in tents in front of the parliament building.
Few days ago there was a grassrott meeting in Reykjavik,and the President of Iceland and his Wife came to that meating and listened and talked to the people.
You can see on the videos when the President arrived ,and also a member of the Occupy hold a speach ,in English.

On last wednesday , ( november 9 )there was a grasroot meeting in Reykjavik.
There people where talking about uniting all the small groups that have been protesting and criticising the the Banking crash and the goverment .
People held speaches,and discussed the situation .
More meetings will be held about this matter.

A member of the Occupy Reykjavik movement held a speach,and he is from the US ,so the speach is of course in english.
You can see and hear his speach on one of the videos.

But to everyones surprice , the President of Iceland and his Wife came and listened to the people and talked to them also .
They where at the meeting for about two hours.
During the break in the meeting , the President and his wife enjoyed coffie and cakes,and talked to the people about what is happening in Iceland , and listened to their stories.
And as always ,as you can see when the enter the meeting,the did not need any sequrity.
It is good to see the President come and listen to the people in Iceland .

I went today to check on our Geysir and gullfoss waterfall.
And according to it all , they are still going stron,and still attracting visitors.
The weather was beautiful,and the temperature around 9 on the celcius scale.

Thor - new coast guard ship in Iceland --- guests welcomed aboard

Last thursday ( october 27th ) the new Coast Guard Ship,Thor arrived in Iceland after a long sailing from Chile.
Thor was built in Chile .
This is a big ship and with every high tech,that is a available today.
And the Icelandic Coast Guard invited the owners ( the Icelandic public ) to visit and see the ship up close , on friday ,saturday and sunday .
Then it will sail around Iceland , to visit and let everybody else in Iceland see this beutiful ship.
It is very important for sailors who sail around Iceland to have a excellent coast guard ship,and also for the people of Iceland.
That is to help ships that are having trouble ,and also people ,transporting rescue services,and so on.

All the vessels in the Coast guard are named after the Nordic Gods, -Odinn ,Tyr ,Aegir and so on.
And this one is named Thor , the third Coast Guard ship in history ,having that name.
Thor,the God of thunder,son of Odinn.

So this is a very proud day for Icelanders .

Financial conference in Iceland next thursday ---- IMF --- video

Next thursday ( october 27 ) there will be a convention in Reykjavik,at the concert and conference hall,Harpa.
At that conference there will be International Economists,experts in Inernational finance and the International Moneytary Fund ( IMF )and the Icelandic Goverment .
In front of Harpa at the same time,there will be people objecting ( protesting ) to the conference ,and with signs telling the international experts , what is really happening here in Iceland,regarding the public and their financial status.
The conference goes under the name - Iceland´s Recovery—Lessons and Challenges -

Occupy Iceland - October 15th protest in Reykjavik,- video and photos

Two protests meetings where today in Reykjavik.
One was in front of the parliement building ,and the other in front of the Reykjavik county courthouse.
Then the meetings at the courthouse joined the meeting at the parliement building.
The protest was very peaceful ,and you can not see a police officer anywhere.
And the protests where peaceful,and many made speaches about what is happening and what should be done.

The Imagine Peace Light was turned on this evening by Yoko Ono in Reykjavik.And the weather was calm and clear skies.
The aurora Borealis ( the norhtern lights ) made an appearance and made the sky look better .
It was beautiful to se the Imagien light and the northern lights together in the sky.

Protest in Iceland october 3 2011 - lots of noise , video and photos

Yesterday ( monday oct.3) members of the goverment and parliement held their first speaches in Parliement.
The Goverment about how things are and how they are going to be.
And the oposition telling their side on how things are and how things are going to be.
But outside, people gathered with empty oil barrels and made a lot of noise.
With this ,they are telling parliemtn and the goverment ,both sides, that the public is not happy.
According to an opinion poll, the goverment has just about 10% support,and the oposition in parliemtn has only 7% support.
So members of parliement and the goverment are not respected much by the people in Iceland .

President´s wife joins protesters in Iceland,- with no sequrity video and photos

On october the 1st. the Icelandic parliement came to its winter season.
As ususal , first they walk over to the church and then back to the parliement building.
Now there where a few thousand protesters ,protesting the goverment , and the lack of what they should be doing for the public in Iceland .
Eggs where thrown at them ,and one member of parliement got an egg in his head.
Then the First lady ,wife of the President,mr. Olafur Ragnar grimsson, Dorrit Moussaieff,whent over the sequrity fence and joined the protesters and showed her support.

Looks like there is a new form of democrocy being made in Iceland.
Now people are following what poltiticians are doing and people are not afraid to make it public and also to protest.
Politicians ,both in parliement and also in the county councils are now more careful on their decisions and also the checck on what the public will say about matters.
People are now angry at the Goverment ,because of the banking crisis and why the public should pay everything,but the bankers and politicians get theri debts written off.
Tomorrow ,Iceland Parliement will starts its winter season ,and big protests is planned.
THe protest tomorrow will start at 10:00 in the morning .
This protest will be peaceful ( i think ) and many will attend in front of the Parliement building .
Last year at the same time , there where big protests .

Protest at the USA Embassy in Iceland for Palenstine and the middle east - video

This afternoon at 17:00 ,local time, people came to the US Embassy to protest the USA plan to veto the Palenstinians request to join the United Nations.

Speaches where held ,and then the Embassy was handed a letter to President ,Barak Obama, to tell him to let Palenstine join the UN , and then there would be more peace in the Middle east.

Parliement in Iceland starts october 1st. and protests planned

Respect for the members of Parliement in Iceland is at an all time low these days.
Some members of parliement are being invevestigated by the Special Prosecutor for their part in what happened after the banking crunch in 2008.
Others got their debts written off , and did not have to pay any of their debts.
And at the same time, the public ,with their bad loans, are forced to pay .
Parliement winter season will start on October 1st.
Protest are being planned and many will attend in front of the parliement building.
Music will be played and it will start at around 10;30 in the morning.

Last year the members of parliement had to go through the back door,because people where throwing eggs,and things at them.

Police are thinking about to have a Police Union meeting on the same day.
Police does not have permission to strike , when they are trying to negociate for better pay.

So the Police Union leader says that parliement will get protection , but many will be at the meeting.
Is this their ( police ) way of protesting ?
To give parliement minimum protection during a planned protest on october 1st ?

Last year when parliement came for the winter season,there was big protest .
Icelanders do protest ,and most of the protesters want and do protest peacefully.

On the evening of the 3rd of October, then there will another protest , when the prime minister holds her speach in Parliement.
This was also last year as you can see on the video here below.

Reykjavik airport 70 years old , celebration in Iceland airshow ,video and photos

Reykjavik airport celebrated its 70th birthday yesterday.
There was a big big airshow and also the history of the airport.
Honorary guests where six British Royal Airforce pilots who where stationed here when the airport opened in 1941 during the second world war .
One of them ,mr. Hugh Eccles made the first landing in a two engine Hudson bomber.
Mr. Eccles was in the No. 269 SQUADRON R.A.F.
You can see them in the first part of the video , being talked to by a local tv station.

Reykjavik airport 70 years old ---- celebration today in Iceland

Reykjavik airport will today be celebrating its 70th birthday.
There will be a big airshow and also to the history of the airport.
Honorary guests will six British Royal Airforce pilots who where stationed here when the airport opened in 1941.
One of the ,mr. Hugh Eccles made the first landing in a two engine Hudson bomber.

Police use force to move away people ,so they can move a woman out of her house,iceland video

Yesterday the Sheriff of Reykjavik was following a court order asked for by Arion bank,to evict a woman out of her house.
She had not payed her debts due to the banking crisis ,according to the media in ICeland.
a group of people tried to stop the sherrif from evictin her out of her house.
This group call themselves - The Home Defence Team.
They help people that are being auctioned or about to be thrown out of their houses.
After the police threw the Home defence team away and got into the house, the agreed to let the woman stay for a few weeks, while her debts are investigated by a goverment agency .
You can see on the video when the police arrive and move the Home Defence Team away .

Airshow in Iceland ,and lots of planes and the Dc-3 flies low over the airport,video and photos

Yesterday there was an airshow in a town just north of Reykjavik.
Its name is Mosfellstown.
The theme of the show was old airplanes and old cars.
Here you can see a old ( 1937 model) german glider.
This was used in Iceland for those that loved aviation and wanted to fly.
The guy on the glider was dressed in clothes from that period.
But the truck is not from that period.
And in Iceland ,it is not an airshow,if the DC-3 does not make an appearance.
Beautiful to look at , and everybody loves the sound of her engines.
