There seems to be a basic reflection missing here on the distinction between science and philosophy. Science justifies its generalisations based on finite observations. The aspects of the universe observed by science are practically infinitesimal compared to what has not been observed - a point which just by itself seems to make scientific claims to have discovered 'laws of nature' - and hence determinism - massively arrogant. If philosophy sticks to a balanced critical function rather than indulging in speculative metaphysics, then it can help us reflect on the limitations of science and keep human over-statement in check. So it is philosophy that dissolves metaphysics, not science. Science merely offers us useful positive, but limited, information. Philosophy as a whole should also not be identified with metaphysics, however much certain schools of philosophy may implicitly rely on it.

I missed this post when it came out, but congratulations on it anyway. The two-step of creating a bold claim of "digital disruption" for branding purposes, and then stepping back to say "we're very nuanced really" has been played out elsewhere. The Long Tail means that everything changes, until it's challenged, when it just means a slight an nuanced modification of the status quo. Good to see you call it out so effectively.
