Since my previous Post above, "Eddystone" has indeed been running on the Maim Line, heading Charters for Excursions organised by The Railway Touring Company. The very first Excursion was (appropriately) "The Swanage Belle" from London Victoria to Swanage on 10th September 2025. "Eddystone" has since performed impeccably on other Excursions.

There are pictures and videos on the Southern Locomotives Ltd Facebook page.

Military Aircraft • Relocation of Shackleton WR963

You may or may not be aware of the relocation of Shackleton WR963 currently at Coventry. I've got somewhat involved with this having taken the cockpit section to there new home at Elvington just before Christmas, made various bits of tooling to remove the props, and I'm currently making parts for one of the engine stands.

Theres loads of pictures of the Disassembly on my Facebook pages, along with there own Facebook page, just search Avro Shackleton for that. We also have a Gofundme running and has done us proud: https://www.gofundme.com/f/shackleton-w ... air-museum
Any support for the project would be very appreciated, when we started in October, the aircraft was in full running condition (except for a fault in the starter circuit on number 1) which we can fix during the rebuild and she will be in full running condition again when we are finished.

34053 "Sir Keith Park" left Herston Works, Swanage on 10th October on a Low Loader, having been stripped down (as necessary) ready for a 'Boiler Swap' to receive the (Restored) Boiler from 34010 "Sidmouth" at Tyseley Works, in Birmingham.

Also ....things are moving on at such a pace that 'Forums' are not really a thing any more .. this is the only one I belong to now ... its more Facebook pages .. and I belong to loads of those .. all for specific interests and hobbies.
In fact I got this notification on my iPhone but my iPhone wont let me answer it so I have to wind up the trusty old laptop to reply .. not having used it in weeks .. and the even older PC desktop has long been retired to my workshop to run Corel Draw and the one specific programme for my 3D printer ...

So .. sad as it is the glory days of 'name that car' and 'change one letter in a word' are over ...I do miss it all but as I've said things have moved on, as have we all (I'm now 70 and long retired!!) ...and I tend to agree that there's no point in delaying ..

However, I shall continue making my model aircraft in the workshop and remember the Iconic Aircraft heydays with much fondness...

Talking to the hosting company tech support, they say they are unlikely to take down the site any time soon, but it is a warning that at some point, whether it be a month or a year from now, it will close due to security issues.

Its with great sadness, that I must announce the imminent* closure of IconicAircraft.co.uk
This will be a final closure, with no hope of resurrection (as back in 2018).

The fundamental issue is that the programming language (PHP) version has been out of date since 2017 and the hosting company are now quoting me as in breach of their terms and conditions with regard to keeping the website up to date and secure.
This board does not support any other version (we are running v5.6 and the latest version is v8.2), so without a complete rewrite it will cease to work in the future. Unfortunately I will not have the time nor remember the skills required to do anything about it.

*I will be ringing the hosting company to see how long we might have left to remain online.

It has been announced by Southern Locomotives Ltd, that '257 Squadron' will visit the Kent & East Sussex Railway at the end of March. What a sight and sound that will be when the Locomotive tackles Tenterden Bank, approaching Tenterden Station!

'Squadron' will return to the Spa Valley Railway for their 'Summer Steam Up' weekend of 17th & 18th June.

Thank you Ray. I try my best with taking photos.
The last ever time I visited the Severn Valley Railway (and saw the frames of 82045) was on 29 October 2011. The last ever time I was at the Nene Valley Railway was on 9 March 2019 when Repton & Martello visited. My last ever visit to Worth Valley was beginning of May 2019 and my last ever visit to ANY preserved line was beginning July 2019 (which was at the East Lancashire Railway).
Cannot afford to go anywhere (apart from my local station by bus).
I would need prior permission from the Job Centre to go away for a short break here in the UK (but would still have to do my 5 hours per day Job Search). There is no point in going away. Sorry.

Why thank you Sir .... I can but work at the speed of the NHS .. what with not having a spare £12000 kicking about But I am hopeful it will be quicker now... having been 'outsourced' to a private clinic at NHS prices (i.e.free )

Yep, only RIAT for me, really. Unless something interesting pops up elsewhere. I only really go to a show now, other than RIAT, if there's something I haven't seen before.

Well I haven't been doing much since the New Year, too cold, too wet, too windy.

Anyway after spending 2 months helping my sister renovate my nephews first home I'm ready for a bit of 'me' time.

Yes .. so sad .. I threw a few groats at you for paint one time and went to see the Guppy when I visited the Lightning QRA shed.. it was a beast and no mistake

I have to say I was wrong about the final destination of XH558 .. I said Bruntingthorpe and look where that went .. although Doncaster is going the same way so.. 6 of one etc Why save priceless heritage aircraft when you can sell your soul to the highest bidder and make huge profits with little effort.

At least some of Guppy was saved ... good on you for the efforts you put in

Yep, cut up and moved. We weren't even told by the owner. Heard it third hand.

It's left a very bitter taste.

The plan was to instantly take on another project, but we all fell out of love with it and found other things to do.

A very sad end, a lot of bridges burned and a few friendships lost forever.

Whilst we are talking I have an update on my back issue...

Derriford in Plymouth offered me an 'Outsource' to a private hospital - on the NHS - as their waiting lists are huge.
So I accepted as it is Salisbury and I got a consultant surgeon appointment today for 12th February
Thats amazing ... Salisbury is good as I can go to my daughters in Hampshire and Salisbury is only an hour from there so she can drive me and I can go to hers for recuperation post op

All complete nonsense but I can at least tell 'someone' ... I am chuffed to death as the pain is not fun ...

My word ... just like old times .. more than 2 posts in one thread .. unheard of in recent times

I'm still around and still building model planes but doing more 3D printing these days .. and just 'inherited' a model traction engine that my Dad built ... he's in a residential home and 96 ..and I want to get it running for him so he can see it before he pops his clogs ... I will run it on compressed air so I can keep it pristine ... metal work and engineering is way out of my league so I'm learning as I go ....
This is not mine but its identical ...

I'm having a few issues with my back these days and can't walk more than 50 yds so I have to have an operation.. 19 months wait to see a consultant - then another 12 months for the operation to relieve pressure on the nerves that run down my legs

I could have it done next month ... for £12000 ... but on a pension income I don't think so (I've just turned 70 )

So pleased to see a few names from the past ... they were halcyon days of fun and frolics on here ... miss the banter

Yes, it's 'been rather lonely here, with just the 'faithful few' keeping things going.

I'm still, very much involved with the Restoration and 0verhaul of Steam Locomotives. Especially those with a particular connection with the Battle of Britain.

Post- Covid activities involved certain restrictions upon those of us 'of a certain age'. However, hope to be getting stuck in again this year, all being well.
