Austin poet Susan Bright reads a selection of her poems during National Poetry Month on Austin News Real, a program on community television.

Susan Bright is author of 19 books of poetry, three of which have been recipients of Austin Book Awards. She is the editor/publisher of Plain View Press, which since 1975 has published 100 books. Her work as a poet, publisher, activist and educator has taken her all over the United States.

Fran Hanlon of Austin Code Pink and Doug Zachary of Veterans for Peace joined Pam Thompson of iconmedia on Austin News Real to describe events and the purpose of their organizations. Fran read a Mother's Day poem that was performed on the pedestrian bridge in Austin, Texas in 2008 and showed photos of events that were held all over the country. Doug talked about an event in Washington, DC at the National Archive where banners were hung from the building.

At a public hearing on Monday, April 20, Susan Bright and John Corry were two of many concerned Austin citizens who spoke out against the plan to remove tagged trees at Barton Springs pool.

They join Austin News Real’s Pam Thompson to question the wisdom and motive for such invasive tree removal. Susan Bright is a poet, publisher of Plain View Press, and Save Barton Creek Association board member. John Corry has been an arborist for 25 years. Both are swimmers at Barton Springs.

In October 2008, the City of Austin contracted the Davey Resource Group to evaluate 46 trees at the Barton Springs Pool. The consulting company recommended removing many of the oldest and most beautiful trees in the pool area.

Singer and guitarist Will T Massey, accompanied by Richard Bowden on violin, performed his song "A Soldier's Love" on this week's Austin News Real program. Both were part of the Million Musicians March for Peace that took place in Austin on March 21, 2009. Along with host Pam Thompson, Will and Richard discussed that event over video footage and photographs. Austin Metro Rail

The new MetroRail train was parked at Saltillo Plaza Station so that folks could walk through it in advance of the commuter rail operation set to begin on March 30, 2009 by Capital Metro. It's called the "Red Line" and can hold almost 200 people and meets up with buses scheduled to stop at the stations to help folks use an intergrated transit system to get around town.
