i know this is a craft blog, but while i haven't thought of a clever name for a recipe blog, i figured i'd post some stuff here. this is too delicious to pass up. NOMMMMmmm!

i've actually been thinking about food a lot lately (if it's even possible for me to think about food more than i already do...) because i recently watched julie & julia and now i totally want to cook through "mastering the art of french cooking" myself! starting with beef bourguignon. it looked too good in the movie and i've been craving it since.

in the meantime...still thinking of names for a nom blog. hope to be posting more regularly now that finals madness is over! :)

i love cherry blossom trees oh so so so much. they remind me of when i was little and we lived in south korea. we once went to a cherry blossom festival of sorts and i remember it vividly.

this wasn't from the festival itself, but it was something along these lines. imagine everything coming up cherry blossoms!

they only bloom for so long, but these paper decorations are permanent. :)

i've always wanted to make one of these, and they seem like the EASIEST thing. and they cost god knows how much at anthropologie. so.

granted, not all bib necklaces are created equal. some of them are pretty ugly. i.e. out of all of these, i'm most attracted to the one in the center (these are from some department store). i think i wanna try making something that looks like that. we'll see how it turns out!

to anyone who's reading this, hello! just wanted to let you know that i probably won't be posting here for the next two weeks (not that i have been for the past two weeks...he he he) because it's mid-term/presentation/paper crazy in these parts and i kind of just have to make it out alive.

i just spelled presentation "presentacion" if that's any indication that my brain is malfunctioning at this moment. (or maybe it's an indication of how good my spanish is? he he he)

Tiny Crochet Heart Pattern
worsted weight yarn
size F/5 (3.75mm) crochet hook
tapestry needle for weaving ends
hdc: half double crochet
sc: single crochet
sl st: slip stitch
gauge: not important, but mine are about 1 1/2 – 1 1/4 inches across

“Big” Tiny Heart (the one on the left)
Make a magic ring.
R1: chain 1, sc into loop 7 times, pull loop closed, join with sl st to chain 1
R2: sl st into 1st stitch, 5 hdc into second stitch, hdc in next two stitches, hdc chain 1 hdc in bottom stitch, hdc in next two stitches, 5 hdc into next stitch, sl st in original sl st.
Give the tail a little tug to help form the heart V at the top, tie knot, weave ends.
Give the bottom stitches a little tug to make the V point at the bottom.

“Small” Tiny Heart (the one on the right)
Repeat pattern, but replace sc for hdc.

this skirt may not be one of her couture-inspired creations, but it's cute and wearable and best of all, doable (given my basic sewing machine skill set)!
