Idaho Nordic has again been asked to help out with this year’s Ironman 70.3.  This year’s race is Saturday, June 9^th.

Idaho Nordic has provided run escorts for the lean men’s and women’s runners the past few years and we have once again been given this volunteer task.  This is a fun volunteer postion because you are right there in the action with the the top finishers during their run.  We have also beene asked to provide some run course marshals.  The Ironman 70.3 is able to make donations to Nonprofits that provide volunteer support but we will need to provide a minimum of 8 volunteers to make this happen.  

Volunteer positions needed:
4 Run Escorts: Run Escorts are on mountain bikes and provide two functions: Safety for runners and lead the 2nd and 3rd Male and Female runners and alleviate confusion for racers and officials. 

4 Run Course Marshals: We are looking to provide run course marshals at the Anne Frank Memorial in two shifts.  This is a very busy and congested location on the course and runners will pass through this spot 4 times during their run.

Mark your calendar, the 10th Annual Idaho Nordic Icebreaker will be Saturday April 28th at the Stonehouse at 6:30pm.

We will once again have a raffle with some great items so bring your cash to purchase some tickets.  We will also have some Idaho Nordic t-shirts and our new Bjorn Daehlie Idaho Nordic hats for sale.  There will be some light appetizers (not dinner) and beer so come by and enjoy a farewell party to our nordic ski season.

Past, present, and future Idaho Nordic members and families are welcome.

The Stonehouse is located next to the Ram on Broadway.

Due to weather our day for trail maintenance work has been rescheduled for Tuesday, April 10th.  Bart from Ridge to Rivers will meet us up on Shaw Mountain Road where Shane’s Trail meets the road and he will have all the equipment so just bring some hiking boots, wate and some gloves.

Parking on Shaw Mountain Road is very limited so we will take the IN Van, meet at the Fort Boise parking lot where we meet for Dry-Land at 5:20.   If you miss the Van meet us where Shane’s Trail meets Shaw Mountain Road at 5:30.

What:  Skate technique ski clinic

Presented by:  Morgan Arritola (Idaho Nordics Elite Athlete) and Nicole DeYong (last years elite athlete)

When:  April 7th from 9:30 a.m. to 11:30 a.m.

Where:  Bogus Basin Nordic Lodge

If we can keep our snow until April 7th we will be hosting a clinic given by Idaho Nordic’s Elite Athlete Morgan Arritola and Nicole DeYong (last year’s elite athlete) who just returned from racing in Europe.  So hang your bike up for the day and join us in learning from some of the best skiers in the country.  We will have a BBQ after the clinic to celebrate our season on snow.

When:  Wednesday, March 14th

Where:  Meet in the Bogus Basin Nordic Lodge at 6:15 p.m. sharp

This is the final beer race of the season.  Entry fee as usual will be a six pack but in honor of upcoming St. Patrick’s Day you MUST bring Irish beer or at least beer in a green bottle.  Anyone that brings a home-made variety pack from their refrigerator will be given some sort of penalty decided by the race director.   Meet in the Nordic Lodge with your six pack @ 6:15 ready to race.  This race will again be a skate race in a team format.  Winning team takes all.

What:  Skate technique clinic; all abilities welcome and encouraged to attend

The clinic will start at 9:30 a.m. sharp upstairs to cover basic body position, then we will progress to on snow technique.

You must be a current Idaho Nordic member to attend.  If you are not a current member we will have sign up sheets; a membership for a single person is $40 and your membership will last through the 2013 ski season.  We will also have Idaho Nordic Bjorn Daehlie hats available for purchase at a price of $25.00.  Any questions email info@idahonordic.com.

BIRKIE SKIERS - STOP READING NOW.  We all know you are better than us even though your local results say otherwise.

Entry Fee: $50 to $60.  (This sets an expectation)

Swag: Wax Apron or a Lobster Eating Bib.  Philthy advises against waxing naked with this particular Bib as you might get wax on your junk. Also BBQ’ing naked is a bad idea as you might get embers on your junk. (We learned Philthy does quite a bit naked) 

Start Time: 9am to 10am.  Actual 9:50ish

Aid Station: 2 per lap - self serve.  (at home experiment: try to pick up a full Dixie Cup on a table with 200 other Dixie Cups with your poles on while moving at 20mph all while 4 volunteers cheer you on)

Race Observations:  Liv(said LEAVE) Jensen is the bizarro twin of the Jensen brothers.  She is personable, friendly, helpful, happy AND she won.  5 out of 6 podium skiers were on the first shuttle - which was only 30 minutes late.  Frank dominated the BBNT ”Fun” race at Bogus the same day as the Payette.  Good job Frank you’re a BIG fish!  Jessica went out too fast but held off Ed.  Ed thinks it was his skis that were slow - we think there are other factors at play.  Mantail blew sky high and was close to last, even though he skied the first 4k like he was a contender.  Joe F was happy but white as a ghost afterwards.  He convinced Erika to pull her skis from the firepit.  Tim and Carol tried to tag team Jeff but Jeff has mad downhill skillz.  Next time Carol promises a no holds barred sprint.  Daryl was Daryl - just hammering along with a frothy beard of determination.  Joe J had a frothy mix of Perpetuem(or so he says) splattered backside.  This can happen when you think you are better than you really are and try to hang with Satan(more on that later).  Whit and Wilhelm (all 14 feet of them) barely held off 5 foot nothing Liv(said LEAVE).  W & W were blaming the headwind but we think their transfer from the easy life of Ketchum has made them even softer in Boise.  Come’on boyz, if you’re going to claim Boise you better step it up.  Joz’s Starbucks induced white knuckle drive left him nothing, unless it would have been a 2k.  Mantail and Joz follow the same training plan and race strategies.  King was tricked into racing due to high pressure mental abuse from a Jr. High Counselor(he is a master at this) but of course he cruised along with a great result.  We will be taking donations at the Icebreaker to buy King a suit and a new hat.  Levi can only V-1.  Levi don’t give a sh#! he can only V-1.  He V-1′d like there was no tomorrow and beat quite a few people that can V2, Marathon, Alternate, Double pole, One Dance, Two Dance and Pole Dance.  Everyone describes Kurt as ‘really nice’. There are about 5 dudes that would say he is reborn Satan.  Instead of an enjoyable start to the 30k, Kurt put the hammer down at 0.5k inflicting the most painful experience most will feel this lifetime.  His good buddy, Jimmy, was left on the first climb as Kurt was smiling.  Only an evil person would smile as they punish a person named Jimmy.  Kurt won and we are proud that evil bastard was in an IN suit.
