Led by three Broncos with double-digit scoring, the BSU women's basketball team defeated Lewis-Clark State 84-64 on Sunday in an exhibition game at Taco Bell Arena. Jessica Van Hoogen (15 points), Julia Marshall (12) and Rebecca Kepilino (11) led the way in Boise State's only exhibition game of the season. The Broncos open the regular season Friday at 7 p.m. against Western Oregon in Taco Bell Arena.

Boise State has never qualified for the NCAA Tournament in women's soccer. Now the Broncos have a chance. They take on Nevada in the championship match of the WAC Tournament at 1 p.m. Sunday (Boas Soccer Complex, corner of Oakland and Highland, off Boise Avenue). Tickets range from $3 to $8 and are available at the gate. Boise State (No. 3 seed, 12-6-4 overall record) defeated Utah State 1-0 and Fresno State 2-1 in the tournament, while Nevada (No. 4, 10-11-0) knocked off top-seed San Jose State 2-1 and New Mexico State 1-0 . Boise State beat visiting Nevada 2-0 during the regular season. This is the Broncos' first WAC championship appearance.

Idaho Steelheads lose first home game

The Idaho Steelheads have been on fire at the beginning of the ECHL season, but they cooled off a little bit Saturday night at Qwest Arena. Ryan Kinasewich scored two goals for Utah as the Grizzlies defeated Idaho 3-0. Kinasewich leads the league with 13 goals in eight games, which is five more goals than the next best player on the list. Idaho rookie goalie Richard Bachman (4-2-1), above, took the loss after allowing three goals on the 19 shots he faced. Despite the loss, the Steelheads (8-2-1) lead the league in wins. It was a quick stop in Boise for Idaho - after one game at home, the team hits the road again for three games at Stockton. The Steelheads' next home game is Nov. 18.
