Leighton: Life-A Remake Of A Pop Favorite

New York-based reggae artist Leighton is turning heads and creating a stir with the release of his latest single, Life, a 2012 remake of an old pop favorite from the 1980s.

Life is an adaptation of a haunting and hypnotic love song that was a number one smash single on both sides of the Atlantic. It was written by the Bee Gees for Barbara Streisand's Grammy winning album "Guilty". Leighton brought the song back to life with his lush, velvety vocals skillfully guided by the direction of producer Nikimo Palache and ably assisted by veteran reggae recorder Ed Robinson.

Leighton hails from St. Elizabeth, Jamaica where he attended Munro College before migrating to the United States. But his vocal gifts were making jaws drop in Jamaican churches from he was seven years old. In New York, he was a member of his Long island high school choir doing Broadway tunes before joining an R & B band, and this early experience has greatly helped him to take on the fast-paced and demanding world of reggae.

Exco Levi: new official video "Seems Like Forever"

The Canadian reggae artist is at it again, releasing his official music video for his follow up single "Seems Like Forever" from Penthouse's "No Money" riddim. The video has a nice storyline showing the true love between a King and Queen through the rough times, and good times. The music video was directed and filmed by Dre Barrett/ Digital reflection entertainment a division of E.O.P Records in Toronto, Canada.

Exco is currently preparing for his Month europe tour in March/April, where he plans to do much promo, and recording within the euro-market. The Penthouse/NCF production artist has been keeping busy during his stay in Canada, heis very involved in the Canadian Reggae scene and continues at working at his goal to build a stronger market for Canadian Reggae on a whole. The artist also was able to pull off a very succesful show with all Toronto artists back in December, as well as trip to perform for his Montreal fans the weekend after.

Watch for Exco Levi in 2012, with colabarations with artists such as Busy Signal, and Romain Virgo both which will be featuring them on their upcoming albums.

Prism: Following closely on the success of his 2011 hits ‘Menke’ and ‘Internet Bad Boy’ the latter featuring I-Octane, resurgent deejay Ninja Kid over the weekend shot the videos for two of his chart bubblers, ‘Have Nuh Gal Like We’ and ‘Tongue Ring Shot.’

Shot on location in Smokey Vale, St. Andrew under the watchful eyes of director Simeon Hedge of Simeon Hedge Concept. The storyline sees Kid exploring the confines of his lavish dwelling densely populated with scantily clad females as they carry out their daily chores within the walls of his home before segueing into a very provocative ‘Tongue Ring Shot’ setup.

The project feature cameos from D’Angel, Blak Ryno, Kiprich, ZJ Wahwa,Navino and producer Marcus Myrie among others and is slated for release within two weeks.

“The video shoot was fun and this is just another side of Ninja Kid that people will get an opportunity to see. The director did a great job of executing the concept___ so let’s hope the fans embrace what we are trying to bring across.” – a jovial Ninja Kid added.

Reggae Stations Embrace Spice's "Brand New Page"

Blue Print: Since the release of her reggae single, Brand New Page last week, dancehall artiste Spice says she is pleased with the response the track has garnered thus far.

The reggae song which was produced by Blaqk Sheep Music on the Tropical Connection Riddim was the perfect way to start the year, Spice says. "I chose to release it in January because that's always the time most persons are determined to stay true to their new year resolutions and improve on things in their lives. That's what Brand New Page is about - getting rid of things that shouldn't be in your life and making a fresh start."

"So far the response has been great, I can't complain. The roots reggae stations and their listeners have been loving that song and before promoting my next single, Take Him Out alongside Mya, this will be the track that my team will be promoting both here and in Europe," says Spice.

The creative artiste is also up for a number of nominations at this year's Youth View Awards, scheduled to take place on February 4 at the National Indoor Sports Centre. Montego Bay based production labels Da Wiz Records and Sniper Records is pleased to announce the premier of their first riddim compilation for 2012 entitled "The Business".

The new riddim which features some of Mobay's finest young prodigies including Gaza recording artist Tommy Lee, former Gaza group Merital Family, 2009 Magnum King & Queens Of Dancehall runner up female Destiny and 2008 Rising Stars Finalist Kahlil alongside newcomersSusan Perkins, Richest, R.M, Daddy Merry, Jimbo, Banka Banka, Chillando, Ghetto Money and Texas Family is a high energy dancehall juggling.

With a 30 second teaser of Tommy Lee's single "War Wid Di Dead" being leaked a few weeks ago "The Business Riddim" has managed to generate large amounts of blog and forum comments.

According to up and coming producer / recording artist Que who's the brainchild behind the riddim, the project was gear at bringing new talent to the scene. "They are so many talented people in Jamaica but a lot of them are not getting recognized and are not in a position to get a solid production to actually showcase what they can do and what they have to offer to "The business" so i figure i will start picking them out and giving them a chance".
While many would admit the heart of Dancehall and Reggae music resides in Kingston the capital city of Jamaica, Que believes the talent of Jamaicans are spread right across all parishes. "They always say Kingston is the only place you can get a buss if you serious about music but we have good talent in Mobay and we are doing the same and at times better standard production so somebody has to represent and good talent speaks for itself so i am hoping Jamaica and the world listen and receive it".

TEFLON: Reflection on 2011

2011 has been a whirlwind for dancehall/reggae artist Teflon. After a somewhat turbulent past few years, Teflon finally is in a happy and blessed frame of mind.

In 2011 Teflon made his presence seen all over Jamaica by performing on stage shows like Follow The Arrow, ST Mary Mi Come from GT Taylor Christmas Extravaganza and Sting. Of course he also showed love to his fans by several club appearances where he mixed and mingled while delighting the crowd with several hits.

2011 was also the year where Teflon finally returned to Canada, and took advantage of his second home by filming the video "Blessed" a Black Ice Productions. His European and African Tour were rescheduled for 2012 because of prior conflict of interest with his end of year shows in Jamaica. He wants his International fans to know that he will be there sooner than later and thank them for all the love and patience.

Teflon hit the music charts with several production such as "Matey Anthem" riddim by Pure Music Productions, "That's Life & Jan Nuh let me go" by Gt production and Romiech production, and was blessed to voice on riddims for producers like Ward21, Skitta, Cashflow, Breadback, Delly ranks, Bigship, Tenament Yard and Computer Paul. His many collaborations included Capleton/King Shango "Same Struggle", Chezedek "Rise Again", Stevie face "Sha La Laa" and Marlon Binns "So Much Trouble".

Reflecting on this past year Teflon admits that he made a few mistake and learned hard lessons from them, but feels blessed to be able to do and share what he loves "Jah bless me and through the struggle I will rise".

A cornucopia of music will provide a feast of multicultural delights as world beat music takes center stage at the Budweiser One Love Nutrifest on Saturday February 18, 2012 in Miami. A melodic smorgasbord featuring a musical genre for every taste - including reggae, Latin American, Caribbean, rock 'n roll, and more - will highlight this year's concert.

Hitting the stage are a unique group of artists whose musical brilliance is eclipsed only by its message of love and hope.

"I carefully selected this lineup because every artist has devoted their life to spreading a message that is consistent with our purpose," said ROCKAZ MVMT president and CEO Alfonso D'Niscio Brooks. "We are all striving to change the world for the better by empowering people to make a positive difference through the universal language of music."

Midnite, the legendary St. Croix roots reggae group since tells us to "keep good relations" with one another, despite the corporate greed and political discord around the globe.

Cultura Profetica, is a Puerto Rican reggae band with lyrics that center mostly on socio-political and ecological issues.

Easy Star All-Stars', by now we should all know: Dub Side of the Moon, their acclaimed refashioning of Pink Floyd's Dark Side of the Moon is eight years old, plus Radiodread, a tribute to Radiohead's Ok Computer, and Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Dub Band--no surprise who that's a tribute to-aren't much younger. They have defined themselves as one of the most powerful Reggae production conglomerates outside of Jamaica.

Gondwana, from Chile, has been spreading the word of Jah Love, standing tall and strong in a peace-loving position of musical and lyrical creation.

Jahfe is here to let the world know that contrary to popular beliefs Jah is real and His word shall come to pass. Representing the power of the youth and the wisdom of roots culture, the music of Jahfe not only reflects the city's diverse music scene but also the true ability of conscious music to connect to people of all backgrounds.

Jean P Jam is a special blend of world beat music they call Deep Roots. Deeply rooted rhythms with globally encompassing lyrics to share, inspire, and expand what we know as world music.

"Our ultimate goal is to uplift the spirit and inspire people of every ilk to give of themselves to help make the world a better place in which to live," said D'Niscio Brooks. "We're accomplishing this task 100% eco friendly by spreading art, culture and music while raising money to end poverty, feed the hungry and shelter the homeless."

This year's concert will include a food drive benefiting Curley's House (www.curleyshouseinc.com) an organization dedicated to improving the quality of life for low-to-moderate income individuals, families, the elderly, youth-at-risk, the abused, and HIV/AIDS infected individuals by providing the nutrition they need. Guests will be asked to contribute two or more cans of food as part of the cost of admission.

NEFATARI: PROMO TOUR OF HONG KONG

Pop, Reggae Rockstar Nefatari is currently back in New York this after concluding a week long promotional run of the Chinese City of Hong Kong which started on December 16th.

Nefatari who was visiting the region for the 1st time made her first promotional stop on December 18th at Club 97 in Lai Kwan Fong, which hosts a weekly reggae night dubbed "Big Shottas". On that night the budding songstress was introduced to DJ Man Logic of Lion Scratch Sound out of France who later played a number of her singles including "No Handbag" and "Talk Yuh Talk".

On December 24th Nefatari made an appearance at the Tru Skool's 2nd Anniversary Party dubbed "Unite One Love Togetherness" at Pier 7on the waterfront of Central Hong Kong. Everyone in attendance received free copies of her promotional CD and stickers. The event which was endorsed by reggae promoter Miyuki Chan featured music from DJ Shabaga of T-I Sound out of Switzerland among others.

Currently gearing up to shoot the video for her Echo One produced single "The Day That You Messed Up" with ace video director Chris "Icey Jace" Campbell with whom she has worked with in the past Nefatari is looking to make even more strides in 2012.

Last year Nefatari had several noticeable achievements including. recording for a number of producers including PayDay Music and Karim Hype.She also shot her very first video in 2011 for the single "They Don't Know" and performed on several major shows sharing the stage with the likes of Munga and Tarrus Riley to name a few.
