Ibm don't have the tools for capture the Small Business Company into the world.

Lotus Foundations is a killer system if IBM sold well ..but If IBM would sell this product must:

- Execute local marketing

- Create a simple portal for purchare the license and obtain support ( local if possible)

- be smarted

IBM does not traditionally allow the use of specific product logos by Resellers. Lotus Foundations should be the exception to that since it clearly indicates the Reseller is a smaller business specialist and does not sell IBM mainframes.

Seems that Domino HTTP runs on a non-standard port due to the built-in Foundations web server using the standard web ports. I've seen at least one add-on product to accomplish this but wonder why it takes a third part when this config option should be built-in.

It would be great to see Foundations become a platform for ALL the Domino family of products, as this could certainly lead to the "one server to rule them all" model for small businesses. This would also really be a win against Sharepoint - as you can easily add Sharepoint to a Windows Small Business Server, but you can't easily extend Foundations with other Domino add-ons like Quickr and Sametime.

Adding Traveler would certainly be a very big win - as a lot of Small Business customers would certainly find push-style phone-based email a fantastic competitive advantage in running their businesses from almost anywhere.

I like the remote administration page in webconfig. It's a nice way to view the computers in your network and connect to them. I also like the option of VNC to control different client types. Nice stuff for admins!

But what do our end-users get? either

a) VPN that exposes our entire network to any crapware that's infected the user's home PC...

b) they use a solution like LogMeIn or GoToMyPC that bypasses our logging and access control...and often costs money on a monthly basis.

I ask you to look at SBS Remote Web Workplace. Remote-enabled users can connect into a web page hosted on the in-house server, authenticate, and connect to their office PC. The Windows version obviously uses RDP but it's proxied so that TSGrinder doesn't see RDP exposed.

By porting Traveler to Linux we could run it on Lotus Foundations appliances. This would be a great sell into SMBs and would help keep those businesses on Domino once they grow out of the SMB space. Very small businesses can't afford to administer Domino or Traveler and need the simplicity of the Foundations architecture that does it for them.

There is an idea "Traveler on Domino for Linux" which I fully support but couldn't link to because it's in a different idea space.

How many organizations see Foundations as an attractive sattelite office solution, yet they already have a Domino domain? Even with some limitations, enabling Foundations to play within an existing domain has benefits to help a geographical diverse organization take advantage of the simplified IT management Foundation offers.

Foundations currently does nothing to help the SMB to easily manage their desktops (e.g. lock down, simple group policy management) in a user-friendly way. Yes, you can download an MS policy editor, but a web-based utillity that integrates with webadmin would be a much better experience.

The Lotus Foundation resets the redirected tcp/ip to SSL selection on the server doc, when it starts up so you can't use any http access. The only choice to host a public website in Domino is to puchase a valid SSL cert.

It would be really nice is there was a option to select either Apache or Domino control port 80.

There are a lot of web based apps that could be used by SMB out on openntf.

To support Sametime or quickr this will have to change.

Provide documentation that matches the standard of the other Lotus products. The current set of documentation is little more than descriptions of the install process and the menu options. It's multiple grades down from the previous Nitix documentation (which at least had screenshots!). How about writing a Redbook?

A lot of museums, schools, libraries and other non-for-profit organizations get very heavily discounted licenses for their systems through Techsoup.com.

MS Office, MS servers and all the MS products are available. Also Adobe and Symantec gives heavy discounts.

I volunteer for a historical society and had to install MS Small Business server and Exchange for them :-(

Only thing available from IBM Lotus - Lotus SmartSuite 98 - WHY???

Please make IBM Lotus products available through techsoup.com. Especially what I have heard Lotus Foundations would be PERFECT for it!

Yes, IBM Lotus have some discounts they can give to non-for-profits, but MS is giving like 90% percent off on some products there!!!
