Notes Client / Mail: Email Chaser View

Author: Bruce Tan
Tags: email
Idea:

It would be nice to provide an "email chaser" view to show all sent emails with no response. (that means the recipient has not responded yet. An action button "Send Chaser" would trigger a new memo with preconfigured text. (i.e "did u miss this email?", etc)

Domino Designer / : InViewEdit - show <Ctrl-click here to add new document> at top of view

Author: Richard Hogan
Tags: designer notesview inviewedit
Idea:

InViewEdit - that's where you can create a new doc and enter values in fields right in the view (bit like a spreadsheet!). A line of text appears at the bottom of the view which says "Ctrl-Click here to add a new document".

This has the potential to be quite useful, however once the view has a lot of docs then it's a nusiance to have to scroll to the bottom to add the next new doc.

It would be much better for the user if you could choose to display this line at top or bottom, or even after a particular category if it appeared in the view.

The new doc won't stay at the top (or bottom) but will jump to the appropriate place in the view based on the values entered, but I just want the user to be able to open the view and create a new doc right at the top.

Idea Jam / Other: Ability to detach and remove file attachments from multiple emails at once

Author: P Mayo
Tags: mail management attachments
Idea:

We have enabled mail file quotas in our organization and what we recognize is that file attachments are the primary contributor to mail size bloat. Currently, users can only detach/delete email attachments one email at a time. Painful and not very productive. What would simplify user mail file management is to have the ability to select multiple emails with attachments that can be detached to a file location designated by the user and removed from the body of the selected emails. The processed emails would have the name of the detached file(s) listed in its body. Outlook and other mail applications have had this capability for some time, when will we see this feature in Lotus Notes?

Notes Client / Other: Option to not remember last replica opened for some applications

Author: Joseph Hoetzl
Tags: replica open menu usability sticky
Idea:

I frequently need to open a replica on other servers. I normally right-click the item in the open menu, and pick the replica I wish to open. Without fail most times, next time I want to open the same application, I forget to pick the replica on my local server and off goes the client, establishing the connection, and me hitting ctrl-break.

So, I'd like the option for a sticky replica to open for certain application/databases. This way, the only way I can open the other replica would be by right-clicking and choosing to open that specific one.

Maybe there is a preference for this buried somewhere, but I haven't come across it.

Domino Administrator / Other: Ability to Create roaming files (address book, bookmarks, journal etc) during the new user setup

Create the roaming files like personal address book, bookmarks, journal etc when the user is setup with roaming option and place a blank copy of these files under user's roaming folder and mark the user as roaming instead of in progress. This way when the user starts the notes client setup, the files will be automatically downloaded from the roaming server to the notes client and they don't have to go thru the roaming upgrade prompts, since the user is already set as roaming. This will also reduce the problems with roaming setup up and troubleshooting and less confusion to the end user.

Notes Client / Other: New Mail Notifications with local replicas

Would like to have the option for a new mail notification occur upon new mail once it gets delivered to the local replica vs the server replicas. I have had several people comment on how they receive new mail notifications but "nothing appears" in the inbox. This gives the users the perception that it isn't working as it should. The users don't understand that the notification is for new mail on the server but it won't arrive until a replication event. If it could be an option to configure it to show notifications on mail delivery to the local replica instead of server replicas, it would be less confusing.

Domino Designer / : Retire LotusScript, Focus on JavaScript (SSJS)

Author: Peter Presnell
Tags: lotusscript javascript
Idea:

This is more a vote to see how the Notes development community might feel about Notes development moving away from LotusScript towards Javascript. With 8.5.0 IBM introduced xPages and it seems a lot of IBM's focus for Notes application development is going to be on the use of this design element. Xpages do not have any support at this early stage for LotusScript and given the way Xpages are implemented it is difficult to say if this will happen any time soon.

The LotusScript language has become a little outdated and needs work to make it competitive with languages such as Java, C#, and VB.Net. There are a lot of ideas on this forum for this... Would you rather see IBM focus its attention on expanding the server sided Javascript language supported in xpages (promote this idea) or would you instead like to see significant redevelopment of LotusScript and support for Lotusscript in Xpages (demote this idea)????. Personally I am on the fence but very interested in which way the yellowverse may go.

If this idea does not make the hot list I will assume that the Notes development community is ambivalent about the programming language used.

Domino Designer / : Add Expand/Collapse to LotuScript Editor

Author: Peter Presnell
Tags: lotusscript
Idea:

When the length of any code gets long it becomes a challenge to navigate around the code. Visual Studio has an excellent feature in which classes, properties, methods etc can be quickly expanded/collapsed allowing me to review my code in a way that suits what I am trying to do. They alwo allow the developer to define manual sections of code which can then also be expanded/collpased. This could be a large block of code inside a mthod (function or sub) or could a grouping of classes, properties, methods etc. e.g. when doing C# development I would always create a collapsible section around my properties and another around my methods. I could thenh expand just those components I am working on.

Note: This need not just apply to LotusScript but would apply to all programing langues (JavaScript, Java, CSS etc.)

Domino Designer / : Add XPage to Named Elements for Frame

Author: Peter Presnell
Tags: xpages frames
Idea:

It is possible to add an Xpage to a frame as a URL. It would be a lot easier if we allowed developers to nominate an xpage as a named element. This would remove the complexity of calculating the appropriate URL, especially when the frameset is used in a template or the database is hosted on multiple servers.

In my company we got Notes, Quickplace, Domino.doc, Sametime, etc, when we terminate an email account , the account is not deleted from any of the other Lotus products, if we are using the same server to provide the services, it would be great that terminating the email account, the user is deleted consistently from all the Lotus products.

This will make much more easier to maintain the user's access to the extended products.

Author: Keith Collyer
Tags: event repeat
Idea:

I have to change various passwords every ninety days. The observant will notice that this just a shade under three months, so you would think you could set a reminder to repeat every twelve weeks. But you can't, the maximum allowed is eight weeks. Why? This seems an unnecessary restriction.

And why must you enter a limit on the number of repeats. Please don't anyone tell me that it is because Notes creates an instance of each, I know that and I don't care. Why should I care about the rather dumb way this has been implemented? Not my problem - and this causes all sorts of other problems for users as well, such as the repeating events I can't delete because for some reason (bug?) there are no instances in the database. My Palm doesn't have this restriction, nor does Palm Desktop, nor does (hateful comparison) Outlook. None of these suffer from the first restriction mentioned here either.

Domino Designer / : Double Click On Included XPage

Author: Peter Presnell
Tags: xpages
Idea:

For Designer client, when I have an XPage which includes other xPages, it would be nice if when I double click on the included XPage control Designer then opens up that XPage in a new window. This would mirror the functionality of double clicking on a subform inside a form.

Domino Designer / : Give acces to DB2 stored procedure inout and out parameters

Author: Frédéric Fanchamps
Tags: DB2 parameters stored procedure
Idea:

Calling DB2 stored procedures works great, but there are "string" statement, not prepared statement with "?" parameters allowing to get the value from inout and out parameters after the call.

We need that.

Notes Client / Other: Protect mail but calendar is public

Author: Frédéric Fanchamps
Tags: private mail public calendar
Idea:

There is no way to prevent user seeing folder names from the mail, if you give access to your calendar.

The mail in the folder will not be seen, but the folder names can, and their names only is confidential for management.

These folder are not private because some secretaries must acces them.

Management is very unhappy with that.

Quickr / : Combine Quickr, Connections & Sametime into single standard collaboration package

Author: Alan Hamilton
Tags: quickr connections sametime
Idea:

Many customers find the overlap between Quickr & Connections difficult to fathom and we know that they all play better together with Sametime. I think a single installable combo offering which could be offered to any customer - not just a Notes/Domino one - would be a runaway success - and would make putting solutions together so much easier....assuming the installation was easy!!

Notes Client / Mail: Combine Notebook, Contacts and Mail/Calendar/To-Dos into one app to avoid needing to sync them when switching between iNotes & Client

Author: Alan Hamilton
Tags: Notebook Mail Calendar Contacts
Idea:

I often need to access my mail / notebook / contacts from a web browser on a machine that is not my own, but often find that something I know is in my Notebook on my PC has not synchronised into the Mail file for it to be shown in the iNotes Notebook presentation. The same goes for Contacts.

Why not abandon the issue of having separate databases for Contacts and Notebook and simply use the mail file so that we can always be in sync and not need to worry. Right now all we're doing is duplicating the data with a risk it's not up to date.
