Notes Client / Core/Frameworks (Incl. sidebar, rich text editor): In a cluster, if your mailfile on the server you're working on has trouble or is slow/unavailable, it should always fail you over.

Author: Craig Wiseman
Tags: cluster notes failover
Idea:

If you don't have transaction logging enabled (and even sometimes if you do), there are pretty common situations where if a server crashes and comes back up, your mail may need to be consistency checked (or other things may be going on that keep it from responding.).

If your mail is not available due to consistency checking or slowness (Network operation did not complete in a reasonable amount of time....), you should be offered to fail over to a cluster-mate.

Maybe it's fixed somewhere, but I've seen this NOT work correctly using an 8.5.1 client....

Notes Client / Other: Import of picture files as a drag & drop action

Author: Stefan Meyer
Tags: import picture file drag and drop
Idea:

I can attach files to a RT field by simply dropping them from the (computer's) desktop. In case of a picture file, I import it afterwards. (Knowing that's double. But doing so I have the file and a preview...)

So what about pressing a key, like <i> (= [i]mport) and the picture file is not attached but imported? - Until a <right click and 'save picture as...> is there.

Notes Client / Other: Warning if too many mail recipients are in To and CopyTo field

Author: Hynek Kobelka
Tags: mail
Idea:

From time to time you always find a user who sends a mail to a large group of adressess and puts them in the To/CopyTo field instead of the BlindCopyTo field. This then causes an endless "ReplyToAll" avalanche and can lead to (deserved) embaressment of the sender and his company.

Why not counter this with a simple function where the user would get a warning message when trying to send a mail which has x (10,50,100) adressees in the To or CopyTo field ?

PS: Such an simple function can also be nicely used in marketing the Notes client as many CEOs can actually see this risk

Domino Designer / : @IsEditor

It always seems so silly to display an edit button (or any action needing edit access) to a user who has author level access to a database but is not an author of the current document. I would like to see an @function (e.g. @IsEditor) which would determine if the current user is able to edit the current document by resolving the author fields on the document (and the ACL level set). This would be applicable to Classic Notes as well as XPages. Bonus points for providing an equivalent NotesDocument method (for LS and SSJS) as well.

Domino Designer / : I would love it if while creating a view I could select a form and have notes create a view with all of the fields in that form.

Notes Client / Other: Copy As Plain Text option in Rich Text Field

Author: ernesto leyva
Tags: lotus notes
Idea:

Sometimes I am working on Rich Text Fields and I am interested in the content not the format. Why Lotus do not add a context-menu option called "Copy as plain text" in order to get just the content. Right now I have to copy paste it in wordpad copy again and past it again. Would be very convenient!

When editing a LS, JS, or SSJS library that contains multiple classes/object I would like the ability to open a specific class/object in a new tab. This would allow me to work on two (or more) classes/objects at the same time and not lose my current place when I switch between related classes/objects. At the moment if I am editing a property/method in one class and which to check other code in the same LS library I must scroll away from where I am working and then navigate my way back to where I was.

Lotus Technical Information / Domino Designer: Add A More Detailed Index To Designer Help

The biggest thing I miss with the new Eclipse help for Domino Designer is the presence of a detailed index that includes all the classes, methods, properties etc that are contained in the various languages. I keep using the original NSF help because of this one feature. Being able to type the first few characters of an @Function, LS statement, or Class is so much faster to locate the needed information. Search provides too much rubbish and the table of contents take sofreveer to naigate to the correct page (if its there!).

Domino Designer / : Correct Indenting For LotusScript

Author: Peter Presnell
Tags: lotusscript dde ELSE
Idea:

Before ELSE (Eclipse LotusScript Editor) the old Domino Designer client always ensured that the correct indentation was applied whenever I added new lines of LotusScript code. Now I must manually select the code and type <Crtl><I> to force a block of code to be indetde correctly. I would much rather have the option to have the indentation occur automatically as I am writing the code. When creating complex blocks with nested if/the/else and while loops etc. it helps a lot to have the statements indeted to the correct level automatically.

Domino Designer / : Correct Casing for LotusScript Typeahead

Author: Peter Presnell
Tags: lotusscript dde
Idea:

When typeahead is invoked in ELSE (Eclipse LotusScript Editor) it doesn't seem to use the correct casing for the methods/properties (as outlined in the documentation). Given with SSJS we are compelled to ensure the correct casing is always used I think we should insist that ELSE also provides the documented casing.

BUT if you want to do something very simple, like have a backup server at a DR site that's 'hot' and ready, you enter a pretty complicated licensing situation.

Domino clustering is (honestly) one of the best selling points, esp when compared to the "business partner revenue cow" that is Exchange clustering.

For small, single server shops, we should make this very easy - even if there's a charge to upgrade the Express license to allow two-server clustering.

Domino Licensing

Notes Client / Other: Should spell check in Lotus Notes remember your choices when you save as a draft?

The behavior is, once you do a spell check, save the email as draft and go back to that email later you should not have to re-check the words you already have signed off on.

Notes Client / Core/Frameworks (Incl. sidebar, rich text editor): Make replicate/refresh tool ever-present across all databases

Author: Stuart McIntyre
Tags: notes client replicate refresh smarticon tool
Idea:

Since R8, the Mail view has had a nifty refresh icon, that is clever enough to know to kick off a replication process if a local replica is being used.

However, that tool seems to only be available in the Mail db.

I'd like it to be available in every database/application - and to be intelligent as to whether a simple refresh or replication is required. It would be relevant to 90% of the DBs I access - particularly blogs, forums, wikis etc.

What do you think?

Notes Client / Core/Frameworks (Incl. sidebar, rich text editor): Enable auto-save on all bundled templates and make it switchable within Application Advanced Settings

Author: Stuart McIntyre
Tags: notes client autosave applications
Idea:

Auto-save of mail messages is easy to enable in recent versions of the Notes client - it's in user preferences.

Howver, it's not just mail messages that would benefit from auto-saving during editing - blog posts, wiki entries, application forms and so on are all at risk should the Notes client crash, hang or the machine itself lose power etc.

As far as I am aware, auto-save can be turned on within the Designer client by altering the form properties (correct me if I'm wrong, developers), but this is beyong 99% of users and most admins too.

So, can I suggest that auto-saving of new entries/comments etc is made possible by default in all bundled templates (including DominoBlog), and then it is enabled/disabled from Application Properties or Advanced Propoerties?

Thanks, Stuart

Domino Server / Admin Tools: Be able to test web site docs and rules

Author: Bruce Lill
Tags: rules
Idea:

Domino processes the rules recursively so there is a chance of rules working againest each other. With that and the chance of mis-spelling or things just not working right.

It would be nice to be able to enter a url and have domino tell us what website docs/rules ect. apply to it.

Even if you could turn on logging for it so you could see how the server is prooessing the url.

Idea Jam / UI: "What's Hot" must be Hot!

Author: Vlad Sh
Tags: hotlist
Idea:

Watched and subconsciously realized that something is wrong with our selection of "What's Hot"... Hot topics frozen :-)
I propose to form this set similar to the forums, that is, if the idea of adding comment or voted for it, then pick it up at the top!
IMHO, this is the easiest and best way to formation of hot ideas - good ideas will sometimes climb up, and people, who do not often come to the site, can see them and voted. Then they will see really important for us and priorities.
