Symphony / : Be able to export presentations as documents

Author: Bruce Lill
Tags: presentations
Idea:

You can only export as PDF, I would love to be able to take my presentations, export as a Symphony Document or better as a Notes document, so I can use them as a basis for blog or wiki entry.

Currently you have to copy & paste the text, do a lot of formating clean up , then copy each image.

Let is save as a document in the notes format, were the top of the page is the presentation and the bottom is the notes for that presentaiton.

Then I could easily take my Lotusphere or Conference presentation and make them into blog or wiki entries.

Notes Client / Other: Fix ?OpenForm method of the notes:// protocol

Author: Craig Boudreaux
Tags: notes // protocol
Idea:

Currently (in version 7.0) the notes:// protocol function ?openform is not dependable. There are times when a user will get an error that the design element is not found, even if the form is in the database. (It apparently has something to do with if the form was in the database the last time it was opened from the client.) That is certainly NOT expected behavior. One would expect, if the form exists, it would be found, and opened.

Lotus Technical Information / Domino Designer: Create a Redbook on Domino Development Best Practices

This would cover everything needed to build application regardless of client and general practices to make development easier, less buggy and easy to support changes.

It would Cover:

The best way to setup development environments for single or team developers.

Using dev, ua and prod server

VM for support of multiple version, etc.

Using libraries vrs coding in agents or events.

Use of templates

Resource templates for design elements that are inherited across applications.

Do you ever find yourself asking how long it takes to review or even implement an idea? It would be interesting to include a graph that shows the average days ideas are sitting in the different status buckets, particularly open, in progress.

In addition to aging, it would be nice to show how many ideas sit in each of the statuses in a graph. The graph could be very simple just listing the 5 statuses and the total amount.

Domino Designer / : Add HTML Editing To Rich Text Editor

Author: Peter Presnell
Tags: html rich text
Idea:

I would like to see the Rich Text editor in the Notes client able to accept HTML in much the same way as many Web rich text editors do via a HTML toggle. I can already paste html from a Web site into the editor so it seems to already understand something about HTML.

My suggestion would be to add HTML as an option to RichTextLite fields, add a button to toggle HTML mode off/on.

Of course this will likely exposes some of the known issues with fidelity between CD and HTML but we will have to solve this eventually if XPages and its Web-based editor generate content for NSFs that are shared with the Notes client.

Notes Client / Mail: Give the end-user a simple method to set a default font SIZE.

Author: Eric March
Tags: default default_fonts default font size
Idea:

For years we've been forced to add ini variables and make changes in templates in order to change (typically increase) the default font size in a new memo. These methods often have the undesired side effect of making every font in the interface larger. As far as I can tell, this has not improved in the 8.5.x client.

There should be a preference which allows the END-USER to set their default font size. This preference should be listed right next to the exisiting default font preferences.

Domino Designer / : Start supporting ECMAScript 5

Author: Peter Presnell
Tags: ssjs
Idea:

With XPages and SSJS still being so new, it seems like now (i.e. Note 9.0) would be a good time to extend the SSJS language to support the new features defined in the new ECMAScript 5.0 standard. This would allow developers starting down the Xpage path to take advantage of the new features. It may also attract new developers to the platform if it was one of the first SSJS implementations to fullyu support the new standard.

Note: It also wouldn't hurt if the embedded brwoser that support XPages in the Notes client were to also support ECMAScript 5 for client-sided JavaScript.

I would like to be able to set a default database in the book mark bar. For example let's say I have a local replica of my helpdesk database. I would like to be able to set on the bookmark bar so that it will always default to the one on the server. If for some reason (either I am off line or the server is down) I click on the bookmark and it can't find the server it swithches me to my local replica. The next time I click on the bookmark it will take me to the local replica. I would like to be able to set a default so that the next time that I use that bookmark it will try the network copy again instead of using the last accessed database. I think the mail database does this but not for other Notes applications. I can be tied to the location document so that if you are working Offline it will know to switch you to your local replica.

Notes Client / Mail: Add thesaurus functionality to Notes Mail

Author: Tinus Riyanto
Tags: mail thesaurus
Idea:

I am not sure why nobody have asked for this before but someone just asked me if Notes mail have a built in thesaurus function. After some searching around, I can only found two workaround for this.

1. Lotus Sandbox - Thesaurus (link)

This code requires that Microsoft word is installed on the same machine as the client since it accessed the Office Thesaurus functionality. It would not work without it and it might not work properly if someday Microsoft decided to change the way the implement thesaurus on Word.

2. Use Live Text to lookup to an online dictionary site.

This would be feasible for client's with direct Internet connection. CMIIW I don't think it will work if the client use an authenticated proxy to access Internet.

Perhaps someone have a better alternative than those two ?

Notes Client / Other: Add the ability to open another person's Notebook on Notes Client similar to iNotes

Author: Tinus Riyanto
Tags: journal delegation
Idea:

I am not talking about local personal journal but the embedded journal that can be viewed on iNotes (I think those document is stored on $Journal view of the mail file). On iNotes there is an option to open another journal and be able to (at least) view those documents. On Notes client i haven't found an easy way to do this. Using menu View - Goto on the user who got the delegation it does not list $Journal view on the view / folder window. Perhaps because this view is not a public access view ?

I know that Notebook / Journal implementation on Notes client and iNotes is different but our end user does not care. They wanted both to behave the same way or else they got confused. I guess this would mean extending Notes Client mail file delegation to notebook in addition to existing delegation of mail, calendar and to do.

This and the synchronize notebook option have started to give me headache.

Notes Client / Other: Add Synchronize Notebook on Replicator page similar to Synchronize Contacts

Author: Tinus Riyanto
Tags: journal notebook synchronize
Idea:

In 8.5.1 we finally have Synchronize Contacts on the replicator page, therefore it would be logical that Synchronize Notebook / Journal be place there also thus avoiding the need for user to manually click menu Action - Lotus iNotes - Synchronize Notebook every time they wanted to synchronize.

If the option is put on replicator page at the very least it can run along with the client's replication schedule.

Domino Designer / : Fix Domino Designer application navigator to not contact servers when opening

Author: Thomas Adrian
Tags: domino designer
Idea:

Opening Domino Designer is still a pain even in 8.5.1 if I have applications in the navigator pointing to servers I do not have access. this will cause domino designer to freeze or take forever to open.

I have to use kill notes every time.

I now have 2 applications in the navigator pointing to different customers,. no matter what ID I am using there is now an application in the navigator poingin to a server that I have no access to , so I can't open designer.

Domino Designer / : Help IBM with the improvement of Notes

Author: Rob Goudvis
Tags: development
Idea:

It is clear to me that one of the reasons that many of the good Ideas posted here will not be implemented due to the lack of resources at IBM.

So I would like to know your feeling about the following:

Could we setup a (small) group of (senior) developers that will help IBM with the implementation of some much wanted Ideas? I know that there are many excellent developers in the Notes community, that are willing to participate in this. There are enough Ideas that will not take too much time to implement and that could very well be designed by non-IBM employees. Is this not what the Open-Source community is all about?

We must, of course, think of a way to assure the quality of the work done, but again, it has been done before.

There would also be found a solution for the intellectual ownership of the core code.

That this Idea is feasible can be shown by the following examples:

1) I have started (but not finished) the implementation of a multiple signature in the mail-template

2) I am working on a version of NotesPeek that will handle the newer Notes releases

3) I modified the mail-template so that orphan mail-rules can be removed

4) I modified the Inbox in the mail-template so that is shows mails read by others than the owner of the mail-file (useful for boss-secretary mail-files), without having to add a hidden attribute to each document

Domino Designer / : Allow sub-classing of standard Notes classes

Author: Rob Goudvis
Tags: classes
Idea:

Maybe this Idea has been posted before (in that case I am sorry), but I would really like to see the possibility to extend or subclass the existing Notes classes. It would solve many Ideas that are already posted here. There are so many functions that are not offered by the Designer, but that are very usefull and could be implemented with this Idea.

So even when this is a duplicate Idea, it might be helpful to bring this once more at the attention of IBM. I cannot imagine that it would be that difficult to implement in the core code. Or is this another reason to make the core code available to us (or some certified developers)?

Domino Designer / : Add NotesDocument.GetItemValueString() to LotusScript

Author: Peter Presnell
Tags: lotusscript
Idea:

Since I started programming with SSJS the one method I find myself using more than any other is the NotesDocument.getItemValueString() or NotesXSPDocument.getItemValueString() method. This is such a powerful method as it allows me to bypass the need to first validate if the field exists in the document (returns blank string) or convert arrays/non-string values into a string. I know IBM are not looking to make major enhancements to LotusScript at this time but this one addition would be a great addition to simplify code as well as provide consistency between LS and SSJS code.
