Author: Peter Presnell
Comment: I think it would be cool if I could open my Admin client, open a specific server and then have a single button that identifies all updates that are available for that server and/or the latest release. My passport advantage details should come from an account document in my PAB and the Administrator client should be able to tell what Operating system, language, and current version I have installed.
re: VSS Writer for Domino

Author: Dag Kvello
Comment: Exactly Nicolas, for those of us using f.eks. VMware vSphere 4 and leveraging with it's vStorage API for Backup/Replication/DR it would be one of the last little stumblingblocks having VSS support for Domino.

Using Veeam 4.1 (soon 5) we implement 100% agent-free, host-free, LAN-free backups and most everybody supports VSS (DB2 supports it on Windows without complaints about VSS not being available on AIX, Linux etc.) besides Domino.

It's a core Storage function in Windows and it's remarkable that it's not been implemented in some way in Domino.
re: VSS Writer for Domino

Author: Nicolas Melay
Comment: I have a totally different view (from Philip's) on this.

VSS support has become ubiquitous in the Windows world. It's a must-have for any database (or database-like) server application.

Supporting it on Windows won't hurt other OSes. The availability of a low-cost and efficient backup solution on this platform (with NTBackup or any other agent-less backup software) can only be a boost for the competition!

Also, I don't think it competes with the Domino backup API in any way.
AFAIK, all the backup API provides is a way to tell Domino, for a given database, to flush any pending I/O and ensure that the file stays in a coherent state as long as it's "locked" for backup.
Actually, a Domino VSS writer would very likely build upon this and be a simple wrapper around the existing API. Since all the gory details are already dealt with in the backup API, it sounds like it would not require a large development effort from IBM.

Of course you won't get the ability to restore up to a specific transaction and other fancy stuff, but for the vast majority of us, being able to backup and restore a database file without shutting down Domino is all we need.

So, for me it's a big up!
re: Add a Close button to each item in the additional document dropdown

Author: Scott Petricig
Comment: I've promoted this. I group my tabs but still have quite a few usually in the additional tabs dropdown - and I agree that it is a pain (and sometimes very time-consuming if it takes a while for the apps to load) to open each tab and close it. I have so many open sometimes that Notes runs out of handles, which is why I have to go and close these one-by-one. I realize I should be managing my tabs better and not keeping so many open but sometimes that is just not feasible, as I am working on several things at once. I also think each visible tab should have a close button (not just right click-close group), so I don't have to go to that X all the way on the right side of the tabs row. Also it would be nice if when I closed a document within a certain group, Notes didn't switch me back to a different tab group! It should keep me within that group, and just open the most recently opened-document, or whatever is most logical.
What brand are you looking for Picklist containing Lotus, Cognos etc...

2. What product name: Picklist containing Domino Server, Notes Client, Sametime Client, etc... (all clearly spelled out) .

3. What Operating System: Picklist containing Windows 32, Windows 64, Mac, Linux etc...

4. What language: Picklist containing ONLY the languages which are available.

5. What version: Picklist containing ONLY the versions which are actually available which satisfy all the other criteria. Also - at the top of the picklist, there should be one that says 8.5.1 (Current) - ie: Marked Current so that we know that it IS the latest.

There should be entirely separate streams for FIXES vs PRODUCTS.

http should be supported as well as FTP (FTP is blocked by many firewalls).
I said not good enough, we need a way to control that ability from the users, because they have blanked out a couple of our groups already.
Author: Wayne Sobers
Comment: An update.
I'm watching the clerks in the accounts department, and I see this behavior from one of them using our current accounts system.
1. Enter customer account number press enter
2. Enter invoice number (letters & numbers) <enter>
3. Enter invoice date <enter>
4, Enter invoice value <enter>
5 Part number <enter> ,quantity <enter> price change <enter>
.....
Going through the other departments, I estimate that about 60% of the data entered is numeric and entered via the keypad. (we're a HVAC & Electrical company so there are a lot of purchase orders and supplier invoices floating around).
so (to me at least) this is an important user interface issue. It directly effects user productivity and perception of Notes as a non-email application platform.
By the way, my IBM keyboard has two enter keys and only one tab key...
