Thinking About Starting a Coin Collection for Kids?

I heard that the best time to mold a child (kid) is when he/she is still young. By getting the curious minds involved in something educational, there is a very good chance that they will become responsible adults.

Some parents start by teaching how to cook or baking at a young age, which is what I do whenever possible. If the child enjoys and does well with it, then perhaps in the future, this person could become a chef. Giving a child a hobby can also teach that child how to stay focused or to pay particular attention to a certain subject. A good example of this is starting a coin collection.

For most adults, coins are just petty cash. They are used to buy a newspaper or used to pay for a ride on the subway etc. For children, coins are more than that. Some children save the coins placed in their piggy bank to make a special purchase or save them to use for their college tuition.

To start a coin collection the parent and child can start by opening the piggy bank and examining the coins together. Coins were manufactured during different years and each has its own history. By explaining the significance of each, the child's interest will grow and this in turn will encourage growth of the coin collection.

Both the parent and child could get lucky if they should find that a coin has missing letters or numbers or a misprint is seen on the coin. Since such things don't happen often, the value of the coin is much higher than the original face value.

Coins can that are to be part of a collection should be kept inside a small box separated from the coins used for savings. When this collection has grown larger, then it is time to buy a plastic folder in which to store the coins. There are two kinds or folders currently on the market: the first can hold the coins individually and the other is a sheet which can hold a number of coins per page.

By using folders the child and take the collection to school for "show and tell" and would improve the child's self-confidence in achieving something on his own - without the help of the parents.

Coins can teach the child about saving for a special purchase or project and encourage the child to work hard to achieve that goal without always asking for money from mom or dad.

Coin collecting started in the early years will pay off later in life by teaching responsibility.

5. It is also suggested that the collector make a list of the ancient coins that he would like to buy. He can list them according to his order of preference which will make his search for ancient coins an easier task. Included on his list should be the amount he is willing to spend on a certain type of coin. The list will be helpful whether online or at an auction house, enabling him to manage his budget easily.

6. It is important to have a separate holder for his ancient coin collection or his other collections. Separate holders will help the collector organize and preserve his coins. Ancient coins are generally more expensive than other collectible coins so it is necessary for a collector to know the proper care for them.

Ancient coins should not intimidate coin collectors. They are an exciting way to enjoy the hobby of collecting coins. Not only do they provide fun but they serve as a source of knowledge for many coin collectors.

It involves locations where people can go to cook according to prepared menus, then take the food home to serve throughout the month. Yes, you're probably saying why didn't I come up with that one?

In the modern world people maintain full schedules. Eating well at home is becoming more and more difficult and home cooked meals are becoming extinct. Even the terrific pre-made food available today in stores isn't quite the same as home cooking. But when the typical day involves so much, who has time to cook, much less time to plan a menu or learn how to make the items on it. That's where this franchise steps into the rescue...

It works something like this. People visit the location and then choose up to all 14 items on a provided menu. They then pay for the number of servings desired. Then they cook it while still at the shop. This can be accomplished either in public or private sessions, with cooking pros directing the preparation action. It's a little bit like a cooking show where the show gives the viewer the food then helps them prepare it along with the host or a lot like a chef at a restaurant coming out to direct the diners in preparing the food.

The meals are a lot less expensive than it would appear when the concept is first described. The more people buy the more they save, so all 14 meals are about $3.50 per serving not counting sides and other items like salads. This can bring the cost per serving for a complete meal up to around the $5 mark, but for a busy working family it's not bad... Not only are the meals provided, but the family can enjoy the cooking experience in a setting where it's ensured that they'll prepare the meals the right way.

Remember, these are franchises... And there's been some controversy behind the franchise. The food and menus are fine, but the franchise owners may have a problem. Forbes Magazine profiled Dream Dinners in March 2008. However, the company didn't look very good in the article. Although the new concept quickly gained popularity and attracted would-be business owners it seems the business plan wasn't strong, as many of these people found themselves unable to continue the business after a short time and a lot of investment. Forbes claims the franchisees were sold a bill of goods when it came to the claims of wild success.

Business controversy aside, Dream Dinners is a wonderful concept that allows busy people living the 21st century fast-paced life a way to return to some of the home spun food value of the past decades. For patrons, it's fun to handle the cooking chores while working off of a wonderful menu.

Organizing Your Home -- Spring Clean

Feeling overwhelmed at the thought of organizing your home? Start on a smaller scale instead and it will be a whole lot easier.

For example, instead of starting with the entire house, commit to starting with one room.

Follow these 11 steps, and you're well on your way to an organized home

1. PICK A ROOM ANY ROOM. Decide on what room to start on. Write it at the top of an 8 12 x 11 inch sheet of paper. This will be your Action Sheet. Example BEDROOM A

2. CHOOSE AN ENTICING REWARD. Designate an appropriate reward to give yourself on the Dumping portion of the job. The reward concept serves as your motivation, so be sure to choose something that you'd really enjoy! Write this reward on your Action Sheet. Example: Treat yourself to a massage or go out for a nice dinner; whatever it is that you love to do. Write it on your Action Sheet.

3. SET A DEADLINE. Set a specific Dumping Completion Deadline for this one room. Write it on your Action Sheet. Example DUMPING DEADLINE APRIL 30

4. SCHEDULE TIME TO DUMP. Schedule 3 specific dumping dates (one hour for each). Hopefully this will be enough to complete the dumping portion of the job. Write it on your Action Sheet. Then, post the Action Sheet in a prominent place where you are certain to see it every day, like your bathroom mirror. It will serve as a reminder of your goal, deadline and pending reward. Example DUMPING DATES APRIL 18 from 8-9A, APRIL 21 from 8-9A, APRIL 24 from 8-9A.

5. KEEP YOUR APPOINTMENT. When the 1st dumping day arrives, keep that appointment, just as you would any other important appointment. Bring a bunch of large garbage bags. Play your favorite music in the background.

6. TIME IT. Set a timer for 1 Hour one that sounds off when the hour is up.

7. SORT THROUGH IT. Pick up one item at a time, and start dumping. (If you come across items you want to give to charity, designate a special bag for those items). Whatever you are going to keep, just put to one side of the room.

8. DO IT UNTIL THE TIME IS UP. Continue doing this until the timer goes off. If you prefer to continue, keep going. Otherwise, stop and follow the same procedures for your next two scheduled dates. Don't let the garbage bags sit there. Make sure they are thrown out now (or donated), or on Garbage Day at the latest.

9. CELEBRATE. Once you've managed to dump everything you don't want or need in that one room, it's time to celebrate. Take advantage of that reward you designated.

10. KEEPING IT ORGANIZED. Now that everything in that room that you wanted dumped is gone, you're ready to begin putting everything you are keeping back in an organized manner. Be very careful not to put anything else in this room that you don't want.

11. REPEAT. Repeat this process for each of the other rooms in your house.
