For many small business owners, finding the right designer can be a tedious process. Whether you’re looking for someone to complete a one-time project or to design on an ongoing basis, your designer should understand your business, match your design style and aesthetic, and be able to work within your budget and time constraints. How do you find the right designer? Try crowdsourcing.

So, what is crowdsourcing?
In a nutshell, it’s asking many people to do a single job and picking the one you like best. It is tapping into the creative potential of thousands, sparking a healthy competition that demands greater performance from each participant, with the result being the best possible choice from hundreds. Crowdsourcing has become wildly successful in the design industry as the world becomes more and more connected and the need for good design becomes more and more relevant.

Crowdsourcing for graphic design has achieved explosive growth due, in large part, to small and growing businesses and their need for high quality, custom design on a budget. It can be a difficult, lengthy, and expensive process for small businesses to find a graphic design source they are happy with. Clients may scroll through many portfolios, browse websites, or even pick a name from the phone book and hire a single designer for their project – but what happens when they aren’t satisfied with the designer they choose? With a single designer or even a design firm, a client is typically presented with a few design options based on their wants and needs, they may be allowed a few rounds of revisions to the concepts presented, but ultimately are stuck with whatever design is created for them.

Are there different types of crowdsourcing?

There are several crowdsourcing resources available to small businesses looking for a freelance designer. Often, a client will post the needs for a particular project, and designers will bid on the project. However, again, this method means you’re choosing a designer first and hoping for the right design in the end. With spec-design crowdsourcing, you choose the perfect design first, and only hire the designer that works for you.

With spec-design crowdsourcing, qualified designers have the opportunity to present their design concepts to a client based on the client’s design brief. A logo contest, for example, may receive upwards of three to four hundred entries. Instead of a single designer or design firm submitting only a few design concepts, or a client picking a single designer based only on their bid, designers from around the world present the client with hundreds of options, each custom created, in hopes of winning the design contest. The client chooses the design he likes best and pays only for that one. And, the entire process is handled over the web, in your time frame and on your budget.

How do I find the right crowdsourcing website?

While there are dozens of design crowdsourcing sites available, it’s important to find the right one. Look for a site that has been accredited by the Better Business Bureau, offers a risk-free, money back satisfaction guarantee, has a support staff on hand to answer any questions you may have, pre-qualifies all of their designers, and has a team of moderators reviewing contest entries for originality, creativity and skill, to assure that you end up with an original, custom-created graphic design.

So, whether you’re in need of a logo for your new business, a website that perfectly captures your brand’s message, or a new letterhead design, save your valuable time and money and find the right graphic designer for your small business – through crowdsourcing!

About the Author: Sergey Epifanov, born and raised in Russia, currently resides in France and attends Ecole des Beaux-Arts de Toulouse and Mirail University where he has already earned a BA in linguistics and is studying Fine Arts. With a passion and interest in graphic design, Sergey founded DesignContest.com in 2003 to create a global community of graphic artists and a platform for clients to get a design they love. DesignContest offers a distinct advantage over other crowdsourcing sites, allowing clients to continue to work with a particular designer on an ongoing basis.

Every year FHA helps thousands of first-time home buyers just like you move into the house of their dreams. A home is an investment, it can save you money and it's a place to live and raise children. The FHA wants all Americans to have an opportunity to enjoy the benefits of owning a home.

Buying a home is not nearly as hard as you might think. FHA is aware that many first-time home buyers may have had some financial problems in the past and don't have a lot of money saved. That doesn't mean you can't buy a home. Because FHA insures your mortgage, lenders are more willing to give loans with lower qualifying requirements, making it easier for you to qualify (or get approval). Even if you have had credit problems such as bankruptcy, it is easier for you to qualify for an FHA loan than a conventional loan. FHA has a low 3% down payment requirement, and that money can come from a family member, employer or charitable organization. Many other conventional loans will not allow this.

          <ins style="display:inline-table;border:none;height:250px;margin:0;padding:0;position:relative;visibility:visible;width:250px"><ins id="aswift_1_anchor" style="display:block;border:none;height:250px;margin:0;padding:0;position:relative;visibility:visible;width:250px"></ins></ins>

Here are a few key facts about FHA loans:

Maximum loan amount: By law, FHA cannot insure loans that exceed certain amounts based on the metropolitan area or county in which you live. The highest maximum FHA mortgage right now is $362,790. The lowest maximum amount is $200,160. To see what the limit is in the place where you want to live, go to the FHA Maximum Mortgage Limits. This site lists U.S. territories as states.

Maximum financing: Depending on the state where the property is located, the maximum FHA financing will be either 98.75% or 97.75% of the appraised value of the home or its selling price, whichever is lower.

Cash required: FHA requires that the homebuyer invest at least 3% of the sales price in cash for the down payment and closing costs. If the sales price is $100,000 for example, the home buyer must invest at least $3,000. However, the home buyer can use gifts from family, funds from local, state or government agencies, or other sources for the down payment. Non-FHA loans may not allow this.

To qualify for an FHA Mortgage you must have a valid Social Security Number, be a legal resident of the United States and be of legal age to sign a mortgage in your state. You must also meet the FHA's basic eligibility requirements. This is where your income, your credit history and your savings are evaluated.

Your lender will decide if you qualify for a mortgage based on the "Four 4 C's of Credit" which are your credit history, capacity to repay, cash to close and collateral. Your credit history involves what you've borrowed in the past, and how well you've paid it back. Capacity refers to your income and your ability to handle the monthly housing payments. Cash to close refers to money for the down payment and closing costs. Collateral refers to the home you're buying. There is one other thing that is important to remember: A lender cannot reject your loan application based on a lack of credit history or your decision not to use credit. If you do not have an established credit history, or if you do not use traditional credit, the lender must develop a credit history from utility payment records, rental payments, automobile insurance payments or other direct reports from credit providers.

To find out more on FHA loans, use the search below to find and contact a real estate professional or a free or low cost HUD approved housing counseling agency to help you evaluate your loan potential. A real estate professional or a housing counseling agency will know what kinds of mortgages lenders are offering and local down payment help and can help you choose a lender with a program that might be right for you.

Find out the Benefits Of A Bad Credit FHA Mortgage Loan

Find out the FHA Home Loans Available With Bad Credit

Find out the FHA Hope For Homeowners In Foreclosure Or Default Program

A new AP-CNBC survey shows that “61 percent said the market’s recent volatility has made them less confident about buying and selling individual stocks. And the majority of those surveyed, 55 percent, said the market is fair only to some investors.”

Another study suggests that investors have done more than talk about their concerns. They have moved their funds out of equities. “From January 2008 through July 2010, investors pulled a net $244 billion out of stock mutual funds. While all that cash was flowing out of stocks, investors put nearly $589 billion into bond funds over that 31-month period.”

Many analysts believe that bonds, or fixed income funds, are a ticking time bomb at the moment. The 20-year bull market in bonds has been declared over by those in the know. While bonds may offer a modest temporary return to the holder, the Fed and Bernanke cannot keep interest rates down near zero forever. At some point as the economic recovery proceeds to its next stage, a rise in rates will necessitate an opposite fall or depreciation in bond values. A temporary holding strategy is called for, but most investors have never professed to understand or been willing to emulate the habits of a short-term trader. However, timing an appropriate exit is crucial for today’s bondholders.

If not bonds, then what? For the majority of investors, investing is not their day job. They can find an investment advisor to manage their portfolio, but that takes time, and you truly need to understand investing principles in order to manage your advisor’s efforts properly. Researching stocks is another time consuming activity, and no amount of research removes the risk that a company will not perform in the market.

If you are going to be in the stock market and benefit from its ability to produce material returns over time, the best approach is to employ the diversification that mutual funds and exchange-trade funds, or “ETFs”, provide the average investor. Your issues are then more manageable in that your concerns focus on fees charged by the fund managers and the specific sectors of the market that each fund chooses to exploit.

The market has behaved in an irregular manner for most of this year as the developed countries of the world struggle with economic recovery and crises seem to exist around every corner. A quick look at the S&P 500 Index reveals that the market for the past year has oscillated between 1,010 and 1,220, refusing to make up its mind and break out of this sideways pattern.

This kind of market condition actually favors an investor with a trader’s mentality, and although most investors tend to scoff at traders, there are a number of skill sets in the trader’s toolbox that could enhance the value of any investor’s portfolio.

Forex trading is one example where both fundamental and technical analysis can be used to advantage. Strategies can vary over minutes, days, or many months if necessary to secure the sought after gain. Forex traders never enter a market unless technical indicators are favorable and only after setting stop loss orders to prevent loss from an adverse movement in the market.

These tactics are not rocket science and can easily be used when acquiring shares in ETFs or mutual funds. If stocks are not for you, then Gold or Silver ETFs may offer more security in these times of risk and potential inflation. Timing your entry when indicators suggest that the market is in an “oversold” condition is the most basic investing strategy ever conceived, that being to buy low and sell high, the only way to truly make money in any market.

The current market uncertainty may be with us for some time to come, at least until Election Day in November. There continue to be indications that our economy is slowly improving; thereby suggesting a favorable upturn is inevitable. However, success is sometimes 95% anticipation, which suggests that timing your market entry is critical for positive results.

Read more here

Half credit card, half futuristic gadget, the cards are as versatile as they are secure. You can tie multiple accounts to the same card or completely hide certain digits of your card number at the push of a button — buttons which are embedded in the card and are as thin as the card itself.
Our editors were hardly surprised to learn yesterday that Dynamics, the startup that makes the cards, won both the first prize and the people’s choice award at DEMO, the startup-centric conference held in Silicon Valley. We saw the company’s founders showing off their creations in the DEMO Pavilion, and we quickly pegged the product as one of the most interesting in this year’s DEMO startup crop.

Winning a startup competition is only a piece of the puzzle; we were more interested to know whether Dynamics and Card 2.0 were likely to be viable as a business and a product.

Cool gadgets are but novelties without widespread distribution. We asked for more information on the business side of things, and CEO Jeff Mullen was able to tell us that Dynamics has been working with several major banks to stealth-test the cards; bank-branded cards will be launching “soon.” Mullen couldn’t disclose exact dates. Still, it’s good to know that forward-looking financial institutions (Bank of America, perhaps?) are already working with Card 2.0 prototypes.

Check out the demo video below, and let us know what you think of Card 2.0.

Check any documentation that came with your mortgage for the terms you’re obligated to follow.

What is content and building insurance?

Contents insurance is policy that pays for the repair or replacement of items within your house. These items may even be protected if they leave the house, for example: if a son or daughter takes items with them to university.

Building insurance is protection for anything that is part of the fabric of the building. The policy will pay out to repair or replace damaged parts of the building and will even pay out to replace the house, if need be.

How much does home insurance cost?

The cost of home insurance can vary greatly. It depends on what level of coverage you want, the home’s location the value of the building and its contents.

Location can play an especially important role if you live in a high crime area or one prone to flooding.

How can I save money on home insurance?

This website can help you find the cheapest deal available by comparing the rates from many different insurers, but there are other ways you can cut the costs too.

As the costs are set to insulate the insurer from increased risk, any step you take to protect your home is a good one. Fitting secure locks on the doors and windows will reduce the risk of theft and lower your contents insurance. If you live in an area prone to flooding, you can reduce your costs by taking steps to flood proof your house. This includes: water resilient doors, properly waxed wooden floors and installing one way vales on drain pipes to stop sewage backing up into the house.

Offering to pay a higher voluntary excess can also reduce your premium drastically.

Who offers home insurance?

There are a wide variety of home insurance providers. For a detailed list and comparison of their rates, please use the form on our website.

How do I make a claim?

If you need to make a claim you should notify you insurance provider as soon as possible. If your claims are the result of burglary you will need to provide the case number given by the police.

For any claim over £1,000 your insurance provider will usually send a loss adjustor, who is a third party investigator there to ensure you followed all the rules of your policy. In addition, you can hire your own third party, loss assessor, to represent your interests.

Be entirely honest with your insurance provider and give them all the information they ask for. You will not be covered and can be prosecuted for fraud if you falsify a claim.

What is voluntary excess?

This is the sum, that you agree with your insurer, that you will pay for any claim you make against your policy, and your insurer will be responsible for the rest. The amount this is will vary depending on your insurer, you can keep your policy price down by agreeing to a larger voluntary excess though.

Is the replacement cost the same value as the sale price?

No. If something in your house, or the house itself, needs to be replaced then you will receive the current market value. In the case of your house itself this means the sum could be considerably higher than what you paid. For certain items in your house, particularly computers, the sum you receive to replace it could be drastically lower.

What isn’t included in the insurance?

Most insurers will have standard clauses that exempt them from paying out in the event of war, terrorism or invasion, but there may be more exemptions and it’s always best to check your policy for details.

Common exclusions for buildings insurance include:
- wear and tear on your property or contents.
- Leaving the property empty for a long period (your insurer will stipulate the exact amount of time).
- Damage caused by flooding or subsistence if your area suffers from it severely.
- Damage or loss that occurs before you take out the policy.
- Deliberate acts caused by you or any other person lawfully in your home.
Common exclusions for home contents insurance include:
- Damage caused by your neglect
- Costs of routine wear and tear
- Smoke damage
- Damage caused by pets

Find out more on www.onlyinsurance.com

But if you combine the word shopping with car insurance — as in "shopping for car insurance" — it produces the opposite effect. The thought of shopping for auto insurance makes the eyes glaze over and the heart rate drop to the pace of a slumbering couch potato.

Couch potato? Indeed. Doug Heller, a consumer advocate at The Foundation for Taxpayer & Consumer Rights (a California-based consumer advocacy group) and a recognized insurance issues specialist, told us that too often "people purchase insurance by calling the number on the screen."

But wait, this is important stuff! You want to be adequately covered if you get in an accident. And you certainly don't want to pay more for car insurance than you should. Maybe waiting for a solution to be beamed into your living room is not the best idea.

How can you stay awake while navigating through this murky subject? Just remember: There is money to be saved. How much? Hundreds, even thousands, per year. For example, one of the authors typed all of his insurance information into a comparative insurance service. The quotes (for very basic coverage on two old cars) ranged from $1,006 to $1,807 — a difference of $801 a year. If you're currently dumping thousands into your insurance company's coffers because of a couple of tickets, an accident or a questionable credit rating, shopping your policy against others may be well worth the effort.

Look at it this way — you can convert the money you save into the purchase of something you've lusted after for a long time. Hold that goal in your mind. Now, let's begin.

Before you can shop for something, you have to decide what you need. The first step in finding the right auto insurance for you is to figure out the amount of coverage you need. This varies from state to state. So take a moment to find out what coverage is required where you live. Make a list of the different types of coverage and then return for the next step. (You will find a list of each state's requirements and an explanation of the various types of insurance in "How Much Auto Insurance Do You Really Need?". Also, check out "Little-Known But Important Insurance Issues" as it has a glossary of basic insurance terminology.)

Now that you know what is required, you can decide what — if anything — you need in addition to that. Some people are quite cautious. They base their lives on worst-case scenarios. Insurance companies love these people. That's because insurance companies know what your chances are of being killed or maimed, and how likely it is for your car to be damaged or stolen. The information the insurance company has collected over previous decades is crunched into "actuarial tables" that give insurance adjustors a quick look at the probability of just about any occurrence.

It is important to keep in mind that the basis of insurance is a difference of opinion between you (the insured) and them (the insurance company). You believe you will, at some point, probably get in an auto accident. The car insurance company believes you probably won't. And the insurance company is willing to take your money to prove you wrong.

So how much auto insurance should you buy beyond your state's minimums?

"Look at your personal financial situation," Dennis Howard, director of the Insurance Consumer Advocate Network (I-CAN) and former insurance adjuster, advised. "If you have assets to protect — and that is all insurance is doing — get enough liability coverage." For instance, if you purchase $50,000 of bodily injury liability coverage but have $100,000 in assets, attorneys could go after your treasures in the event of an accident in which you're at-fault and the other party's medical bills exceed $50,000.

Howard noted that his general recommendation for liability limits are $50,000 bodily injury liability for one person injured in an accident, $100,000 for all people injured in an accident and $25,000 property damage liability (that is, 50/100/25) given that half of the cars on the road are worth more than $20,000. Here again, though, let your financial situation be your guide. If you have no assets, don't buy excess coverage.

Another issue Howard mentioned is that the limits of any uninsured and/or underinsured motorist coverage that you purchase cannot exceed the limits of your liability coverage. Such coverage, he said, can be valuable, as it will cover lost income if you're out of work for several months after being injured in a major accident.

Your driving habits may also be a consideration. If your past is filled with crumpled fenders, if you have a lead foot or a long commute on a treacherous winding road, then you should get more comprehensive coverage.

"Consumers should also be aware that they don't have to buy the package [of collision and comprehensive coverage]," Howard said. "If your vehicle is older, if you have a good driving record and if there is a low likelihood that it would be totaled in an accident, but a high likelihood of it being stolen, you could buy comprehensive but not collision." Seems like good advice for all of the 1989 Toyota Camry owners reading this article — this has been the most stolen car in the nation for several years (it's often stolen for parts). But we would expect that most of them on the road have well over 100,000 miles.

At this time, a rather sobering point needs to be interjected. Just having car insurance doesn't protect you from absolutely anything bad that might happen. First, the insurance company needs to back up the claims that they make in the fine details of the contract. TV ads show folksy adjustors at the scenes of natural disasters passing out claims checks like coupons for cocktail wieners at a supermarket. But, in case you haven't noticed, real life is a bit different from TV ads. If you have an accident, your car insurance company will take a close look at your claim before mailing you a check. And the check may be written for an amount much smaller than you had hoped. For this reason, you should be intimately familiar with the terms of your policy and call the company with any questions you might have.

Now that you have made several practical and philosophical decisions, it's time to start shopping. Begin by setting aside about an hour for this task. Bring all your records — your current insurance policy, your driver license number and your vehicle registration. Drink plenty of coffee. Have a phone at your elbow. And, of course, power up your computer.

Begin with the online services. If you go to Netquote.com or other insurance quote sites, you can type in your information and get a list of comparative quotes. The form takes about 15 minutes to complete. If this bores you, just remind yourself that you are saving money and you can use that money to buy something nice for yourself. If the entire shopping process takes you two hours to complete, and you save $800, you're effectively earning $400 an hour.

A few things to keep in mind: (1) When you use quote sites, you may not get instant insurance quotes. Some companies may contact you later by e-mail, and some that are not "direct providers" may put you in touch with a local agent, who will then calculate a quote for you. (A "direct provider," like Geico, sells an insurance policy to you directly; other companies like State Farm sell insurance through local agents. We'll discuss the pros and cons of each later.) (2) It's not easy to get quotes from these sites in all states — if you live in New Jersey, for instance, you'll probably find it faster to pick up the phone, since most insurers currently don't provide online quotes for this state.

You can also try getting insurance quotes from some of the insurance companies listed on the Edmunds.com Web site — Geico, InsWeb, or Insurance.com. The forms will take about 10 minutes each to complete.

Of course, there are many other insurers that you can contact online. But remember, while you're researching companies, make notes in a separate computer file or on a piece of paper divided into categories. This will keep you from duplicating your efforts. When you visit the different online insurance sites you should take note of several things:

Annual and monthly rates for the different types of coverage — make sure to keep the coverage limits the same so that you can make "apples-to-apples" comparisons

An 800 number to call for questions you can't get answered online

The insurance company's payment policy (When is your payment due? What happens if you're late in making a payment?)

Discounts offered by the insurance company that pertain to you

The insurance company's consumer complaint ratio from your state's department of insurance Web site (more on this below)

The insurance company's A.M. Best and Standard & Poor's ratings (more on this below)

Once you have exhausted your online options, it's time to work the phones. Those companies you haven't been able to get an online quote from should be contacted. Surprisingly, doing this process verbally can actually go faster than the online counterpart, providing you have all the information regarding your driver license and vehicle registration close at hand. When you get a quote, be sure to confirm the price. Also, ask them to fax or e-mail the quote to you as a record.

While talking to the insurance companies' telephone salespeople, make sure you explore all options relating to discounts. Insurance companies give discounts for a good driving record, favorable credit score, safety equipment (for example, antilock brakes), certain occupations or professional affiliations, and more. For more guidance in this area, check out "How to Save Money on Auto Insurance."

Always bear in mind that your mission isn't just to buy the cheapest car insurance out there; it is to buy the cheapest insurance and still receive adequate coverage and service. "You don't want to pay to get a great deal on insurance and then not get your car repaired after an accident," Heller noted.

Your final selection should depend on two things:
a. the reliability of the insurance company based on the criteria above;
b. the price of the quote.
We can all find the lowest premium, but it may not be immediately obvious how to determine whether a company is reliable. When we say "reliable," we're talking about how the insurer treats you, the customer. Particularly, how will the company deal with you when you file a claim? Will you be paid the full amount to which you are entitled? And will you be paid promptly?

While there are never any guarantees, we've come up with several ways of seeking out the most reliable insurance companies:

1. Visit your state's department of insurance Web site.
Although you may not be familiar with it due to lack of marketing, your state, and every state, has a department of insurance. Most departments have Web sites, and many publish "consumer complaint ratios" for all of the insurance companies that sell policies in their state. This ratio tells you how many complaints an insurance company received per 1,000 claims. All of the experts we interviewed recommended that consumers use complaint ratios as a resource before making a decision.

"Just because they're a big name doesn't mean that they'll be a 'good neighbor' or that you'll be 'in their hands,'" Heller noted. If you can't get complaint ratios for your state, he said that you can often get a good idea of how a company treats its customers by comparing the complaint ratios published by other states (this obviously shouldn't be the only deciding factor since a single insurance company often varies significantly from state to state — consistently favorable or unfavorable ratios may be revealing, though).

Another consideration: "High-risk insurers come out the worst [in the consumer complaint ratios]," said Brian Sullivan, a recognized insurance expert and editor of Auto Insurance Report, a weekly insurance industry publication. "Whenever you have a really big claim, it's more complicated.... And these companies tend to insure people who get into big accidents." Regardless, a high number of complaints should give you pause, even if the company is financially appealing.

Similarly, be sure to jot down those companies with favorable ratios. Howard's Web site provides links and contact information for every state's department of insurance.

Additionally, the department of insurance sites often provide basic rate comparison surveys. These can give you a rough idea of which insurers might interest you on a financial basis without the hassle of typing in all your personal information (as you must when you use one of the quote sites described above). This may be particularly useful if you're going to use the phone, rather than the Web, to shop.

2. Find out which companies body shops would recommend.
Howard offered another idea that you may never have considered: "Contact the local body shops of dealerships or others that you trust. See which companies they would recommend." You can compare the consumer complaint ratios with what the body shop managers say. Clearly, this kind of research is more time-consuming than simply finding the lowest premium rate, but if you have a claim, you want to make sure that your vehicle is repaired correctly and completely with minimal hassle and that OEM (original equipment manufacturer) parts are used.

Howard, who is involved in an effort to create guidelines for the use of aftermarket parts, said that consumers should avoid them for the time being. "Right now, these parts are so incredibly inferior. Body shop managers will tell you which insurers are pushing aftermarket parts." A March 12, 2001, I-CAN press release explains the protections consumers currently have in each state — it's rather fortuitous to live in Minnesota, the only state that prohibits insurers from requiring the use of aftermarket parts.

3. Consider working with an insurance agent.
It used to be that everyone purchased their auto insurance from an agent, but now, companies like Amica, Esurance, Geico and others allow you to purchase insurance directly — over the phone from a customer service representative or online. Still, many of the major players have preserved their national networks of local agents — even if you use State Farm's or Allstate's Web site, you will still be assigned a local agent. Before we delve further, you should be aware there are two kinds of agents: (1) the captive agent who represents only one insurance company (AAA, Allstate, State Farm, and the like); and (2) the independent agent, also known as a broker, who represents several insurance companies (for example, Erie and Progressive are both sold through independent agents) and therefore does not have a vested interest in selling you a policy from one particular company.

Experts say that consumers who sign on with agents generally have an advantage during the claims process. "The agent has a vested interest in you being happy," Sullivan said. "The claims representative has a general desire to keep you happy, but it's not the same."

Further, an agent can become familiar with your situation and guide you toward a suitable policy, Howard said. "Don't rule out direct providers, but my personal preference is to have an agent, preferably an independent agent, write your policy for you.... An independent agent would become aware of less advantageous conditions with one company [and help you move to another]. You can change carriers without changing your agent. I encourage consumers to develop a relationship with their agent."

The prospect of good working relations with an agent may help you to make a decision: When Heller purchased auto insurance for the first time, two insurers gave him similar quotes but he went for the slightly higher one because the agent had been highly recommended by a friend. "You shouldn't go direct without always checking out other options," he said. "[...But] never feel pressured by a broker or an agent. Take the time to talk with an agent or a broker as well as do your online research. You may not need an agent — you may find a better deal with a company that operates direct."

Independent agents may charge a fee for their services, but you may be able to negotiate. You should agree upon any fee in writing before making a purchase. Look for agents who are certified by Independent Insurance Agents of America (Big "I") or PIA (Professional Insurance Agents).

4. Check out the financial strength ratings for the companies that interest you.
Refer to the A.M. Best and Standard & Poor's ratings. Both companies publish financial strength ratings for all insurance companies — these "measure" an insurance company's ability to pay out a claim. The A.M. Best rating is expressed as a letter grade from A++ (the highest) to D. Some companies may be assigned ratings of E (indicating regulatory action regarding the company's solvency), F (in liquidation) and S (suspended). In any case, you should only work with companies that have at least a B+ rating.

The Standard & Poor's ratings range from AAA (the highest) to CC. Additionally, some companies receive ratings of R (under regulatory supervision) and NR, which means 'not rated'. The letter grades might be modified by a + or - mark. Consider only those companies that have at least a BBB rating. Insurance companies often provide this information on their Web sites, but if not, you can run a search at the A.M. Best and Standard & Poor's sites. Keep in mind that these ratings have nothing to do with the way an insurance company treats its customers.

5. Skim J.D. Power and Associates' auto insurance ratings.
Another basic resource is J.D. Power and Associates' auto insurance ratings. Two of the top insurers in the study, Amica and Erie, are also companies that Howard recommends: "Erie is sold by independent agents, who are very knowledgeable about the product. I like their claims handling approach. Almost all other companies look at a claim and find a way to not pay it. Erie and Amica will look at it and try to find a way to cover it."

6. Don't assume that affinity programs have your best interests at heart.
Sometimes auto insurers will team up with an auto manufacturer, union, trade association, or other entity to offer a select group of people insurance policies at a discounted rate — this is known as an "affinity program." For instance, Ford owners can get a special rate through The Hartford. Don't assume that such an insurance company will provide superior customer service — research these as rigorously as you would an unaffiliated company.

"You do get a bit of a premium break, but I would still say go to consumer complaint ratios at your state's department of insurance Web site," Howard advised. "It has been my experience that insurance companies that enter into third-party mass-marketing programs are lacking when it comes to service."

7. If insurers won't treat you right, contact your legislators.
It's not always easy to find affordable, reliable car insurance, particularly if you don't make a lot of money and live in an urban area. Your state's legislators, of course, are the people who require you to purchase insurance in the first place (unless you live in New Hampshire, Tennessee or Wisconsin). Contact these officials if you can't find a policy that you can afford or if your current insurer has treated you unfairly during the claims process.

"Particularly for low-income consumers," Heller noted, "auto insurance is too expensive relative to their income to even think about.... We urge motorists to get some coverage but also to let their elected officials know that they're having trouble finding affordable insurance." Heller was the leading advocate behind the implementation of the Lifeline Auto Insurance Plan, a pilot program in California that makes affordable auto insurance available to low-income residents of Los Angeles and San Francisco counties (areas that typically have astronomical insurance rates) with good driving records. The program was possible only because "low-income motorists let lawmakers know that 80 percent of the people in their neighborhood were uninsured," he said.

So, you've done your research, and you've decided on a company. Before you sign, though, read the policy. In addition to verifying that it contains the coverage you want, there are two clauses that you should look for in the contract:

1. Retain your right to sue.
"Find out if you are giving up your right to go to court and will be forced into arbitration if there is a disagreement [between you and the insurance company]," Heller advised. "You're much better off if you don't give up this right.... It makes it easier for [insurers] to take advantage of you." If you find a clause to this effect, all isn't necessarily lost. "At least in theory, a contract is a mutual agreement, so you should be able to cross out that line in the policy," Heller said. If the company won't agree to the policy sans clause, then you should probably take your business elsewhere.

2. Avoid aftermarket parts requirements.
"If an insurance company has written in the policy that 'new factory', 'like kind and quality', or 'aftermarket parts' [may be used for body shop repairs], ...go on to the next company," Howard said. If you own a relatively new car that you plan to keep for a while, you will probably be much happier if you spend a little more time researching companies on the front end rather than try to fight the company when you have a claim.

After you lock in the insurance policy you want with the company you select, you have two more things to do. The first is to cancel coverage with your existing insurance company. Second, if your state requires you to carry proof of insurance, make sure you either have it in your wallet or the glove compartment of your car (some experts discourage this, however — if your car is stolen, the thief has everything he needs to prove the vehicle is his).

Now, there's one last thing to do: reward yourself for saving so much money on your car insurance. Now it's time to go shopping — real shopping.

By Philip Reed, Senior Consumer Advice Editor and Erin Riches, Senior Content Editor , Edmunds.com

With the exception of strict liability crimes, most crimes consist of three elements: an act (actus reus), a mental state (mens rea) and the intent to do social harm. Crimes are classified as misdemeanors--less serious offenses that are normally punishable by a fine like some traffic violations, petty theft, or possession of a small amount of marijuana, and felonies--more serious offenses that warrant imprisonment of one or more years, such as rape, grand theft, assault and battery, assault with a deadly weapon, or homicide/murder.

In criminal law, the suit is initiated by the state or federal government through a prosecutor rather than being initiated by the victim, as it is in civil law. Plaintiffs in a civil law suit only need to show by a preponderance of the evidence that a defendant is 51% or more liable (responsible) for the damages. But, the prosecutor in a criminal law case has to prove to the judge or jury "beyond a reasonable doubt" that the defendant is guilty of the crime charged.

Can I plead not guilty even if I am guilty?

You are innocent until you are proven guilty. An experienced Criminal Law Attorney may think that the evidence against you is not enough to prove that you are guilty. For more information about your specific case, contact a qualified Lead Counsel Criminal Law Attorney, as listed on this site, to discuss your legal options.

Why should I hire a Criminal Law Attorney?

Generally, the sooner a Criminal Defense Lawyer is brought into a criminal case or investigation, the better potential results for the client. Do not take a wait-and-see approach to a criminal situation. Do not seek answers to questions about your rights and legal status from police officers and prosecutors who do not have a legal duty to act in a suspect’s best interest.

A serious criminal charge can have a defendant fighting for his or her fundamental freedom. Do not gamble while your freedom is at stake! Contact a skilled and knowledgeable Lead Counsel Criminal Defense Lawyer in your area today, who will stand up for your legal rights and fight for your exoneration.

Step 2

Attempt to back up the data. However, with the intricacies of U.S. tax law being what they are, the taxpayer may find himself better served in hiring a tax attorney.

A tax attorney specializes in working with taxpayers to solve their problems with the IRS or state revenue department. In fact, they generally focus only on tax issues and relief. A tax attorney can help a taxpayer in trouble make it through an audit, have fines reduced, liens removed, and can navigate through the minefield of small business and self-employment tax issues.

Many small business owners consider their tax attorney to be as vital as their accountant. This is because a good tax attorney can help head off tax problems before they even begin. He or she can see potential trouble spots for a business and can advise the owner how to avoid them.

U.S. tax law is not only labyrinthine in structure, it also changes nearly every year. Thus, a good tax attorney will keep up with the latest changes and can advise clients accordingly. A tax attorney may also be helpful when setting up trust funds, stock portfolios and the like, so a taxpayer doesn't run into unexpected surprises on April 15.

A person looking for a tax attorney shouldn't call the first one listed in the phone book. He should look around, ask friends, or even his personal attorney (if he has one) to recommend a good tax specialist. As a prospective client, the taxpayer should look for a tax attorney with extensive experience in dealing with the IRS, in debt management cases, and in working with real live taxpayers. He should also ask the attorney for references. The taxpayer should also make certain his tax attorney is a member of the American Bar Association and the state bar association. A client should also make sure he knows what his attorney's rates are, and make arrangements for payment early on in the consultation process.

If a taxpayer finds himself in over his head where the IRS is concerned, he should certainly consult a tax attorney. Tax fines tend to snowball, and it is always in the taxpayer's best interests to get problems solved while they are still relatively small ones. Waiting until the last minute to see a tax attorney could be extremely costly, and might result in jail time for the taxpayer, as well as higher legal fees.

Money invested in the services of a tax attorney can be considered a wise investment for a taxpayer.

Why refinance a home loan? Is this a good time to refinance? Where should you go to refinance your home loan?

Why refinance a home loan? If you can make your current mortgage payment with little struggle there may be no reason to refinance. If you have other obligations you are struggling to meet lowering your mortgage payment by $100 or more a month may free up needed funds.

Is this a good time to refinance? Timing when refinancing is half the battle. If rates offered are well below the rates you are currently paying you would do well to consider refinancing.

Where should you go to refinance your home loan? As a rule it is usually best to contact your current lender for a mortgage rate quote. Likely you will be quoted a rate that is less than competitive when compare to rate quotes offered by online lending marketplaces who are competing for your business. Therefore is it best to get quotes from these marketplaces in writing and ask your current lender to meet or beat the lowest of the quotes.

Before filling out the online rate quote forms or contacting your current lender you will need to determine the real purpose of the loan. Answer the following questions to determine the purpose of refinancing your home loan.

Are you seeking to lower your monthly payments?

Do you want to consolidate debt?

Need cash for large purchases?

Are you seeking to adjust your interest deduction expense for tax purposes?

Having established the purpose for refinancing consider how much loan you truly can afford and the amount you wish to save when refinancing your home. If cash is needed for major purchases or investment determine the minimum amount that will accomplish your purpose vs how much you wish to save when refinancing.

Cash-Out Refinance Loan Programs
Lenders are currently offering several loan programs to fit the need for lower rates and cash for major purposes. A cash-out refinance loan provides you with both options in one loan. Compare rates along with interest, tax and insurance to help you determine the total amount of interest paid when paying off the loan.

Home Mortgage Rates
Even if rates are less than 1% you may still see a significant savings when refinancing. For example, the monthly payment (excluding taxes & insurance) on a $100,000 loan at 8.0% would be $ 733.76. If the rate were lowered to 7.1%, the monthly payment would be about 672.03. An annual savings of $732. Using the loan payment calculator at The Federal Reserve Board Mortgage Comparison Calculator.

Shopping For Bargain Rates
Definitely contact multiple lending institutions for competitive home mortgage loan refinancing rates. A good place to start is with your current lender/mortgage company. Get a written rate quote and then compare them to the quotes from other lending marketplaces. These marketplaces feature a rate quote form that can be submitted to up to four lenders at a time.

Once you've filled out the form and submit it lenders will begin calling you offering you a competitive loan rate quote. When speaking to each lender remember to ask them toprovide a couple of refinancing scenarios showing how your loan term length, monthly payment and your total interest expense on the loan will change.

Determine Feasibility
After looking at these scenarios, determine whether or not you should spend the money to refinance. If you determine that it is still feasible to get a loan go to your current lender with the lowest-rate quotes from the lending marketplace and ask your lender to meet or beat the lowest rate.

Most lenders want to know if someone made you a better offer so take advantage of the competitive sensation by mentioning a lenders lower rate offer to the lender offering the most attractive loan package. Responding to each call and offer using this method is sure to get you the loan at the desired rate and much needed cash to pocket and use as needed.

Source: www.goarticles.com
         Resources that save you money

You might reduce your monthly payments by refinancing your mortgage. Considering this fact you must ask yourself a question whether you have enough experience or knowledge and even will to do so. Even if you don't have such but still willing to joing as an affiliate promoting certain product look for those who offer the most support and specific education for their partnets. Learn the products they offer and the actual practical ways of promoting them. Research the web. Which product is hot right now?
The company I want you to consider is the one that sells exactly the hot ones currently on the market. They offer the wide range of the products to promote as their partner and also the solid training on how to do that as well. The actual variety provides you with the choise which product you are better on. If you decide to start the affiliate business this company is the one that is capable of providing you such an opportunity.
The company was built to give you an unfair advantage in the marketplace. Their technology will allow you to send your clients to them without worrying if the site is too cumbersome to navigate. Likewise, you'll be able to see how they market these services so that you can generate ideas for your own web sites:

Personal website with Agent Back Office access

International and domestic best rates calculator

Randomized content management software

Brand new GeoQuote commercial telecom calculator

Brand new ShopforVoIP.com

Their compensation plan is based on years of experience in telecommunications industry and it gives every agent an opportunity to get the "big" commission, all while paying the highest base rate in the industry.

Each agent gets paid according to the Pay Level (or Tier) they have earned. The Pay Level is determined by the sales volume you achieve over a 90 day window. Once you advance a Tier, you stay advanced for the next 2 months, even if you don't hit the volume requirement again. At the
very time when commentators are branding green investing as a
luxury the world cannot afford, enormous investment in the world’s
energy infrastructure is required in order to address the twin
threats of energy insecurity and climate change. Waiting for
economic recovery, rather than taking decisive action now, will
make the future challenge far greater. As the cost of clean energy
technologies decreases and policy support is put in place, the
shape of the eventual energy system is emerging with the
investment demand substantial.
The vast majority of us are aware that our environment is reaching
a crisis point. A crisis point that society is desperately trying to
pull back from as humanity continues to belch out toxic carbon
emissions (CO2 gasses) in its continued efforts to provide the
type of existence we feel is necessary.
Scientists have recently discovered that the Earth’s temperature
is rising at an alarming rate. In fact, if we see a further 3 degree
rise in temperature, we will be at the point of no return. This
temperature rise is commonly known as global warming and we
are all aware that something needs to be done.
Individuals and organisations produce CO2 gases through their
everyday activities such as air and car travel, burning of fossil fuels
for energy, the production of cement, steel, textiles and fertilizers.
The concept of carbon credits came into existence as a result of
increasing awareness of the need for controlling emissions
coupled with the understanding that to move forward, a monetary
value needs to be placed alongside the environmental value.
The great forests and rain forests are the lungs of the world,
drawing in harmful CO2 gasses as they grow while producing the
air that we breathe. Unfortunately, for many years, while there has
been no way to show a monetary value on the world’s rainforests,
they have continued to be harvested at an alarming rate with their
only monetary value to man being raw materials (timber) and the
land they grow on for grazing cattle or growing crops.
However, with the introduction of carbon credit trading a monetary
value has been found and there is now a way for the cycle to be
turned. Rainforests can finally be protected and also replanted
allowing for an increase in the removal of CO2 gases from the
atmosphere whilst also rewarding enlightened businesses and
investors in these projects.
The good news is that the process of reducing pollution from CO2
emissions is well under way. Until recently for example, the US
government refused to believe that CO2 was responsible for all
global warming, with California its only state taking the opposite
stance by aggressively promoting emission reduction policies and
the use of renewable resources, now it is fast becoming a national
concern. Russia however, agrees that CO2 is a major contributor
to global warming (it signed the Kyoto Protocol in 2004) and is
already in process of upgrading its antiquated infrastructure to
meet its emission targets.
Emission reduction targets and ensuing discussions have to date
been based around countries that have been identified as major
polluters (from global CO2 emission statistics 1990). At the Kyoto
meeting in 1997, China and India were perceived as not being
significant polluters. Other nations deemed responsible for
significant CO2 emissions were given reduction targets. Until
recently, the US had used the non-inclusion of China and India as
a reason to stay out of the Kyoto Protocol. Post George Bush,
things look set to change.
One fundamental feature to emerge from the Kyoto meeting is
the requirement that each country that produces CO2 above set
targets must reduce the level of its emissions by offsetting by
tree-planting or other processes that can absorb CO2, such as
sequestration and/or changing farming methods. If any country
continues to produce more CO2 than it can absorb, it must
purchase an ‘absorption ability’ from another nation.
This “absorption ability” is the Carbon Credit, with one Carbon
Credit equal to one tonne of CO2. It is referred to as a “CO2
equivalent” (CO2e). A nation might, for example, have a shortfall
in absorbing 500,000 tonnes of CO2 and according to the Kyoto
agreement it must seek to purchase an “offset” from another
nation that has been planting trees for such a consideration. Costs
currently are between US $10 – $15 per credit at the moment.

It is very important to have a plan in order to work to pay off those balances. Credit card companies have a number of tactics that they use in order to keep you from being able to pay off those balances. The minimum payment is one thing.

If one only makes the minimum payment on their card, they will most likely be paying off the card for many years. In addition, they will be paying a lot of extra money in interest, because they are making more payments their account. Another tactic that the credit card companies use is playing with the interest rate that people pay. They will often offer teaser rates for the first 6 months or a year, then raise the interest rate much higher after the introductory period. This tactic draws people in and allows the credit card companies to make more money, at the expense of consumers and their family budgets.

Families that use smart debt management can reduce both the balances that they owe and the amount of time it will take to pay down their credit card debt. Making a payment that is above the minimum payment can make a major difference and is a way to reduce what you owe. In addition, if a consumer makes the same payment month after month, and not noticing that the credit card companies will drop the minimum payment in an attempt to keep your balance higher, that can help with your credit card balance and is an example of practicing good debt management. Being on time with your payment is also a good way to improve your debt management.

Even being late by one day can result in a late fee, and often times the credit card company will raise your interest rate on the card, making it even harder to pay down the balance that you owe. In addition, paying off the card that has the highest interest rate, not the card with the highest balance, can allow a consumer to more quickly pay down their credit card debt.

Each strategy has its own advantages and disadvantages in marketing . The article is a brief description of natural and paid search engines.
When the ads are displayed down the right hand side or in the top of Google search those are the paid ones. They are also called “sponsored ads”. Every time you click on them the owner pays Google. They are known as “pay-per-click’’ as well. Several factors determine the amount you have to pay. What you are willing to pay is one of them. You must start with paid search campaigns because it is the only way you can test your conversions very quickly. Just think about, if people know that your link is an ad and they are still willing to click on it, it only shows that they are really interested and also your keywords and your ads are good enough.
We call it a natural search whenever somebody type in a keyword and the description and the link shows up on the left hand side of the search result page. The only way to be listed on first search page is to have a very relevant content on your site and links to your site from other sites that would have similar content. It may become a time consuming process. A lot of companies nowadays promise to get you on first page of Google but the search term should be really specific for that reason. You should also be very careful if you or the company you deal with use the “black hat’’ method as it may get you banned by Google.

Once a person has missed their first payment, their lender will send a late notice out to their home. If the Homeowner chooses to ignore the first notice, the lender will send another notice for payments. Finally if the homeowner ignores the last notice, the lender will make a demand for a payment in full. This is known as the acceleration clause, which is included in most mortgage contracts.

Acceleration Clause

Once a person is behind on their mortgage by three to six months, the mortgage lender can invoke the acceleration clause in the mortgage contract. Once this is done, the bank will only accept the full payment of the mortgage, plus any late payments or legal fees. This is just about the time that the Foreclosure process is normally started.

Certified Foreclosure Letter

The lender will deliver a certified letter of Foreclosure to the homeowner. They are normally delivered by the local Sheriff or a processor. Next the lender will send the information of the foreclosure to the local newspaper to place it in the legal area of the publication. At this point the homeowner can try to work out something with their bank, but in most cases the bank will only stop the foreclosure process if they can receive the full payment for the home.

Court Date

The court date is set. This is when the homeowner, the lender and anyone that has financial interest in this home with attend. The court will proceed with the foreclosure title listing an auction date in the papers. At this point the homeowner still has time to work out some type of settlement with the bank.

Auction Date Arrives

This is sometimes called an auction, foreclosure sale or a sheriff's sale. Anyone participating in the auction must put up a deposit check for a stipulated amount and a line of credit to handle the total price of the home. At the auction the lender with the highest bid wins the property. The money from the sale of the property always first goes to pay off any real estate taxes owed, then mortgage, then other liens that maybe on the property.

How To Stop A Foreclosure

There are many different ways to stop the foreclosure on your home. You can search the internet to locate companies that offer this type of service.

What Happens During A Foreclosure

Insurance experts across the United States have unanimously agreed on the importance of taking all necessary measures before choosing a insurance policy. It has also been said that random searches on home insurance leads may not fetch any results while opting for a suitable policy. There are several other who will give a detailed list of things that one needs to do and keep in mind while choosing a home insurance cover. However, it is also equally true that a large number of insurance policy buyers make some common mistakes while selecting their policies.

Although, thanks to the internet people have become well aware of the things that need to be taken into consideration while going for home insurance policies and checking the leads, not all information that is available on the internet can ensure that you purchase the right policy. To make a well planned and well informed purchase decision, insurance policy buyers must not only take into account the various aspects concerning home insurance leads but also refrain from making certain common mistakes that people make.

Here is a comprehensive list of things that should be avoided to make sure that you benefit from the home insurance leads you select:

• Many home owners make the mistake of not comparing the home insurance quotes after they find certain home insurance leads. This is a huge mistake and should be avoided at any cost. One has to keep comparing the various house insurance quotes on a regular basis to evaluate which policy is best suited to meet their needs.

• Remember that insurance companies are always on the lookout for potential clients and may go over the top to win new clients. Given the completion that exists in the insurance industry, it is not uncommon to find several insurance companies vying for your attention. These companies may offer attractive home insurance leads and buyers should avoid trusting all that they get to hear from the representatives of such companies. One should not be hasty in taking the decision and keep all options open.

• Some house owners upon finding good home insurance leads have stuck onto it for several years thinking that the policy that they are availing at present is the best choice. However, in reality they could be missing out on better insurance leads priced at much lower rates. One should therefore not be led into believing that continuing with an existing home insurance cover is the best alternative.

• There are several hidden costs and obligations included in the insurance document that people do not pay much attention to. This is a big blunder as they may not benefit at the end of the day.

• Just visiting the websites of insurance companies is not enough to make sure that you receive cost effective leads. It is also important to do a proper background check of the insurance company before you zero in on it. One should not form an opinion by believing hearsay and remain cautious. There are a few steps that need to be followed in order to make the program move smoothly and without any hassles.

Stop making any more payments to the credit card companies: Once you enter into the program any further payments should not be made to the bank or the credit card companies, It solely becomes the responsibility of the settlement company to make any sort of payments, only after they come up with the best settlement, even though only a small part of the payment is left to be done with.

Avoiding calls from the collection agencies: After entering into the program, any sort of harassment calls are unlikely, but it can happen that the creditors may call; the right thing to be followed is to re-direct the creditors to the settlement company instead of even conversing with them in regards to any sort of settlement. Unfair collection practices will eventually stop and the company will take care of everything on your behalf.

Trust account to be maintained: It is your responsibility to maintain your trust account, only with the accumulated amount the negotiation company can pay off the creditors. You should try to understand the simple fact that the company will not pay anything from its own pocket.

The requirement for enough funds: In order to settle debts there is a requirement for a good amount of money in the trust account. Only with a proper saving, the negotiators can go ahead with the settlement. The negotiation process will be completed when both parties agree on a reduced amount and close the deal. It is an essential measure to put some money every month into the trust account and that will help the negotiators to settle debts early and easily.

The usage of credit card in a wrong way can lead to serious debt issues which again will put the customer entangled and horrified. Thereby you should understand the worth of the debt settlement companies, as they are the only ones who can bring out the customers and give them a debt free life.

In a slow economy many people find themselves falling behind on their mortgage payments. Once a person gets behind on one or two mortgage payments, it becomes almost impossible to catch up.

The most common steps that most people consider looking into is to find ways to get a loan to catch up the mortgage payments. This is not a simple process. One of the main factors is how long have you been behind on your mortgage. if you're only one month behind, you could probably get a loan from your local bank or credit union because your bank has no way of knowing that your are behind on your mortgage payments. You would have to be about 2 to 3 month behind on your mortgage payments before your lender will report you to the credit bureau.

If you're more than two to three months behind on your mortgage loan, you may need to contact companies that handle bad credit loan programs. Many times they maybe willing to give you a loan, even if you have less than perfect credit. Most of these types of companies are mainly located on the Internet. They offer no credit or bad credit loans to anyone that has a stable income.

You have two different options. you can go with a unsecured personal loan program that would require credit checks or you could go with a payday loan program. Unsecured personal loan programs will allow you to get loans of up to $50,000.00 with no collateral required. This is normally the best option because it offers lower monthly payments on an extended period of time to pay the loan back. Whereas payday loans are considered to be a short term loan. Payday loan companies generally offer loans up to $1,500 and they will only accept weekly payments to get there money back. The good thing about payday loan programs is that the lender doesn't check your credit to get you approve.

There are many loan programs online that can help you get back on track.

My name is Larry Kearney and I have been working in the financing industry for over 10 years.

Click on the links below for more information

Loans For People in Foreclosure

Personal Loans - Payday Loans

Understanding insurance is very important when you are comparing insurance quotes to find the best deal to fit your specific insurance needs. The NAIC survey found most people didn't know quite as much about insurance as they thought. Part of the survey was a 10-question "Insurance IQ" quiz and survey takers averaged only four correct answers. These results contrast with the reported confidence in their insurance knowledge by survey takers. Sixty percent reported feeling "very confident" when making insurance decisions and a mere 15 percent reported insecurity in insurance matters.

To give a quick sample of the NAIC Insurance IQ quiz, here are three questions with answers:

1. Does auto insurance automatically cover a rental car?
2. Can you own a house without homeowners insurance?
3. In general, how much life insurance is recommended in relation to your annual salary?

If you answered, no, yes and 5-7 times your annual salary, you bested the majority of 1,000 American adults who got them wrong in a 10-question quiz designed to test the nation's Insurance IQ. Indeed, on average, Americans flunked the test with only a 40 percent score -- a solid "F" by most U.S. educational grading standards.

If you'd like to take the entire Insurance IQ quiz, head to http://www.insureuonline.org/iiQ_final.htm.

The NAIC survey found some interesting information on all types of insurance. For auto insurance it uncovered only 62 percent of Americans know accident history, vehicle safety features and geography are the factors that most impact the cost of car insurance. A lowly 19 percent know the requirement for private mortgage insurance (PMI) on new home purchases is based on the lender and the size of down payment. Fewer than half of survey takers know when the unemployed choose COBRA for health insurance they must cover the entire cost of coverage. Almost 40 percent of survey takers admit to having no idea of how much life insurance to carry based on a yearly income multiplier.

The NAIC does offer some advice for anyone looking for insurance. First is to educate yourself in whatever type of insurance you are looking to purchase and then take that knowledge to shop around and compare insurance quotes from a number of insurance providers. Before you sign an insurance policy, confirm with your state insurance department the insurance provider or agent is licensed in your state.
