Creative Pause: A Personal Update

Hi friends,

I wanted to take a moment to share a personal update with you all, especially those who have so kindly reached out to check in.

Over the past while, I’ve been quieter than usual—both here and on social media. The reason for my break from cardmaking has been due to the condition of my cornea. The strain on my eyes made it increasingly difficult to create, and I knew I had to pause and take care of myself.

A few weeks ago, I underwent a cornea transplant. It all happened so fast—one evening I got the call, and less than 48 hours later, I was in surgery. I had been on the transplant list for over a year, and while the wait felt long at times, I was incredibly grateful (and a little shocked) when the moment finally came. I’m happy to share that the surgery went well.

I’m now in the early stages of recovery, which will be a slow and delicate process. Full healing will take up to a year, and during this time, I’ll be focusing on rest and letting my body do what it needs to do.

As for cardmaking—I haven’t let it go completely. Creating still brings me joy, and I know I’ll return to it when the time is right. I just don’t know yet when (or if) I’ll be back to sharing regularly online. For now, I’m giving myself permission to take things slow, without pressure.

Thank you again to everyone who has reached out. Your kind words have meant more than you know. Stepping back from my phone and the online world has actually been a much-needed reset—and it’s reminded me how important it is to protect our well-being in all its forms.

Card One: “Life is Sweeter with a Mom Like You”

This first card is a floral fantasy! I started with the Lovely Layers: Bold Background Chinoiserie to build a beautifully intricate background full of texture and soft florals. The layers and soft ink blending on the leaves and flowers add so much depth and natural charm.

I then framed the sentiment using one of the elegant dies from the Antique Layering Frames set. The sentiment itself—“Life is sweeter with a Mom like you”—is from the So Special Stamps and Dies set and is die cut with the coordinating die for a perfect fit.

To bring this card to life, I added three butterflies from the Lovely Layers: Butterflies set. These were ink blended using Distress Oxide Inks in vibrant rainbow hues. A few gold gem stickers complete the card and add a touch of sparkle.

Card Two: “You Are So Dear to Me”

For the second card, I wanted to go for something soft and regal. I used another frame from the Antique Layering Frames set to create the focal point, layering ornate die cuts for an elegant finish. The sentiment, “You are so dear to me,” is again from the So Special Stamps and Dies set.

Two butterflies dance across the card, colored with the same Distress Oxide Ink rainbow palette. To tie the whole look together, I pressed Bee Creative Metallic Gold Ink into their embossed details, creating a luxurious effect. Gold gem stickers were also added here to enhance the corners and add sparkle.

Ink Blending Details

For all the butterflies, I used a bright rainbow blend of Distress Oxide Inks—including shades like Picked Raspberry, Wilted Violet, Broken China, Peacock Feathers, Squeezed Lemonade, and Black Soot. After blending, I splattered them with metallic gold liquid. This added a subtle shimmer to the butterflies.

These cards were such a joy to make and are perfect for Mother’s Day, thank you notes, or just sending a little love. The new Country Cottage Release has everything you need to add elegance and warmth to your cardmaking.

For this card, I used the stunning new Chinoiserie 3D Embossing Folder to create the background. After embossing a piece of Birtol paper, I colored the impressed images using Karin Brushmarker PROs along with a waterbrush to fill in the embossed wells. (If you'd like to see a similar technique in action, check out my earlier post HERE).

Once the background was fully colored and dry, before moving onto the Blackout step, I carefully ran the panel through my diecut/embossing machine again with the embossing folder, making sure to line it up perfectly. This re-embossing helps sharpen the beautiful details that can sometimes soften after applying water.

I then applied Versafine Fine Pigment Ink - Onyx Black by rubbing it over the entire panel, letting those bright, happy spring colors burst against the dark background. It's such a bold and stunning effect! To the background, I then added gold and white splatters.

Sentiment:
For the greeting:

"Spring" was created using the brand-new Great Greeting Spring Dies from the Country Cottage release.
"Hello" comes from the classic Great Greetings Everyday Die set.

I used a metallic foil cardstock for extra shine and layered the sentiments with their coordinating shadows for dimension and definition.

To complete the card, I added a few iridescent gems, and painted the bodies of the Hummingbirds with Bee Creative Liquid Shimmer Watercolor to catch the light and add a bit of playful sparkle.

I hope this card inspires you to give the Blackout Technique a try! It’s a bit messy but so much fun — and the final effect is so worth it.

The Pop-Up Surprise: DIY Spring Mechanism

Now, here’s where the real fun begins—this card features a partial pop-up element that makes the puppy in the wagon come to life with a gentle bounce!

I created a spring mechanism using the connector pieces from the Vintage Gift Card Box Honey Cuts die set. Here’s how:

Die Cut Two Connector Pieces – I cut two identical connector pieces from the set.
Shape the Spring – I joined the ends to form a standing, 3D hollow rectangle.
Create the Spring Action – I added diagonal creases at each end of the rectangle. This allows it to collapse flat when pressed and spring back when released—just like a paper accordion!
Assembly – One end was glued to the card base, and the other to the grass layer.

This clever little structure creates dimension while still keeping the card mailable—a total win!

This card is extra special because it has a spinning hamster wheel, bringing a playful, interactive element to the design. I used the Sweet Stacks: Circles to create the spinning mechanism and a clever trick to add weight, ensuring the wheel returns to its neutral position when not in motion. Creating the Spinning Mechanism

To achieve this fun effect, I followed these steps:

Die-cut the front panel – I cut a circle in the top layer of the card using the Sweet Stacks: Circles Dies.
Die-cut and assemble the hamster and wheel – I used the Lovely Layers: Hamster and Lovely Layers: Hamster House Dies to piece together the adorable hamster and its wheel.
Make the wheel transparent – To add a realistic effect, I used Acetate as the top layer of the wheel. Since the glue dries clear, it remains unnoticeable.
Build the spinner base – glue a button to a larger circle, set aside to dry. This will be used in the next step.
Layer the card front – Add foam tape behind the front panel, and place the button layer behind the opening so it peeks through the die cut circle opening. Glue to the card base. The foam layer will allow for smooth movement.
Balance the movement – To help the wheel return to its neutral position after spinning, I glued a dime to the bottom of the hamster wheel, adding just enough weight.
Attach the wheel – Add a foam dot to the top of the button and then attach the hamster wheel on top, slightly elevating it.
Adjust the spin – If you want less movement, use a button slightly smaller than the opening. To allow freer spinning, add foam behind the front panel for elevation.

Happy St. Patrick’s Day! What better way to celebrate than with a heartfelt, handmade card? This glittery green beauty is full of charm, featuring a lucky pup who’s clearly been having fun in the fresh-cut grass! With layered hearts, sparkly sentiments, and clover accents, this card is the perfect way to tell someone just how lucky you are to have them in your life.

Background

I started with a vibrant background using the Scattered Hearts Stencil. The first layer was blended with Mowed Lawn Distress Oxide Ink, and for extra shimmer and texture, I added a second layer using Slime Green Paper Glaze.

Sentiment

The sentiment, Lucky to Have You Honey Cuts, was die-cut from glitter paper that I ink-blended to match the background using Mowed Lawn Distress Oxide Ink. This ensured a cohesive look while adding shimmer to the design. To make the sentiment stand out, I placed it on a soft vellum shadow, which helps it pop against the busy background without overwhelming the design.

Focal Image

The adorable pup comes from the Tail Waggers Rubber Stamp Set, stamped using water-reactive ink and then watercolored. To enhance the St. Paddy’s theme, I added green hues to the pup’s paws, legs, and face to mimic the look of playing in fresh-cut grass. I initially used the Tail Wagger Honey Cuts die but opted for a hand-fussy cut look without the white border.

Embellishments

The hearts framing the pup are from the Lace Heart Layering Frames Honey Cuts Set, cut from pink and green cardstock for a layered effect. For a fun shamrock detail, I arranged tiny hearts from the Bold Background: Vines of Love Honey Cuts into clover shapes. To finish, I added some sparkle using green gems from the Real Rainbow Sticker Set.

Scor buddy board (for pop-up springs)
Acetate (for glass front, and floating fish illusion)
Spray bottle (for water splatter effect)
Chunky glitter (for iridescent aquarium rocks)
Adhesive glue

Foam (dots for dimension)

1. Die Cut the Fish and Add Color
Start by die-cutting the fish from white cardstock using the Lovely Layers: Fish dies. Use Distress Oxide inks and ink blending brushes to add vibrant color to each fish. Once colored, piece the fish layers together to create dimension.

2. Die Cut the Aquarium Layers
Die cut three black layers of the aquarium using the Lovely Layers: Tank dies. To the topmost layer, adhere a piece of acetate to mimic the glass front of an actual aquarium.

3. Create the Pop-Up Springs

For the pop-up effect, cut four strips of cardstock measuring 5" x 1". Score them every 1/4 inch and fold them into a spring-like shape. These will be used between the aquarium layers to add dimension.

4. Assemble the Background and Base Layer
Attach the back layer of the aquarium to the card base.
Blend Distress Oxide inks onto a piece of cardstock for a realistic water background.
Use a spray bottle to add water splatter effects to the blended background.
Attach some fish die cuts directly onto the background to give depth.

5. Add the Middle Aquarium Layer
Glue two pop-up springs onto the back layer and attach the second aquarium layer.
Position and adhere the castle and coral elements from the Aquarium Add-On set.
For a fun floating effect, glue a fish onto a small acetate strip and attach it between the layers.

6. Complete the Aquarium Scene
Attach the front layer of the aquarium with another set of pop-up springs.
Add final fish, coral, and decorative die cuts.
Use wood-textured embossed pieces to create the top and bottom of the tank.
Apply glue along the bottom edge, then sprinkle chunky glitter to resemble the shimmering aquarium gravel.

7. Add the Sentiments
Heat emboss the “You’re fintastic” sentiment onto the front panel using white ink and embossing powder.
On the inside of the card, stamp the “Sending birthday fishes” sentiment with black ink for a fun finishing touch.

Thanks to the springs this Card does collapse to fit into an envelope, but please note that it will still be bulky.

This card features the Tail Waggers Rubber Stamp Set and Coordinating Dies. I colored the bulldog using Copic markers, giving it a realistic look. To add a little extra shine and dimension, I applied glossy accents to the eyes and nose.

The cozy dog bed and cute bone come from the Lovely Layers: Dog Beds Honey Cuts. The layers add beautiful depth to the design. I also used patterned paper from the "Free Bee" A2 card stock set (free with a qualifying purchase of $100) to create the background.

The sentiment, "Anyone can be cool, awesome takes practice!" is from the You've Got a Friend Stamp Set and is stamped in Bee Creative Intense Black Ink. I framed the design using an A2 Scallop Rectangle Frame, which adds a lovely touch.

For a pop of sparkle, I used gems from the Simply Spring Sticker Set. The party hat was a fun DIY addition—I cut a small triangle from the same colored paper as the bed and added white gel pen dots for decoration. A foam ball tops it off for an extra festive touch!

Creating the Spinner Wheel

Blending the Background – Using the Scene Building A2 Stencil Set, I blended out the background to create a soft sky effect with fluffy clouds and grassy fields using Distress Oxide Inks.
Marking the Center – I used a T-Square Ruler to find the center of my card, ensuring smooth spinning action.
Adding the Button – The button acts as the pivot point where the rings spin. Use a small circle die (slightly bigger than the button) to die-cut the opening. Glue the background to the card base. Then glue the button to the opening, and set aside to dry completely.
Cutting the Circles & Rings – I die-cut two rings using the same smaller circle die from the previous step and a couple of large circle dies, the 2.0" and the 2.5" Connected Circles Shaker Creator Die. The larger ring is what the Duckies are Glued to and the smaller ring is to elevate the spinner mechanism. In hindsight, they could have been the same size.

Layering the Ducklings – Once I glued the Duckies to the larger ring, I then die-cut and adhered a blank coordinating die behind each duck to add strength and rigidity. This helps them spin smoothly without bending.
Assembling the Spinner – Glue the smaller ring behind the duck layer to lift the spinner mechanism, allowing for a seamless rotation. Place the spinner opening over the button.
Hiding the Button – To cover the center button, I die-cut a final circle, decorated it with stamped elements, and added the sentiment, "You Are Quacktastic" and glued it to the button.

Inside the card, I stamped the phrase "Have a Lucky Ducky Birthday" to complement the cheerful front. This makes for a delightful interactive birthday card that is sure to bring a smile to anyone’s face!

I absolutely love how this Quacktastic Wheel Spinner Card turned out! The interactive spinning motion adds such a fun element to the design, and these adorable ducklings make it even more special.

Create the Background

Use a blank card panel and place it over the card base front.
Find a circle die larger than the Roulette Wheel and die-cut through both the front panel and the top layer of the card base to create a window.
Emboss the top panel using the Aces 3D Embossing Folder for a fun, casino-inspired texture.
Glue the embossed layer to the card base. This ensures that the opening aligns perfectly.

Assemble the Roulette Wheel

Die-cut all the layers of the Lovely Layers: Roll The Dice - Roulette Wheel using various colors of cardstock.
Add gold gel pen details to give it a realistic metallic look.
Stack and glue the layers together.

Make It Interactive

Create the Stacked Rings

Use the Sweet Stack Circle Dies to cut rings of white cardstock and one gold ring for the top layer. I cut 6 and then realized they were not enough to allow the ball to spin freely. I then used a craft foam sheet to create another ring for the deep frame.
Adhere a piece of acetate to the opening to create a see-through interactive space.
Add the gold ring on top to finish the look.

Create the Roulette Ball

Take two white, Cool Pearls Stickers, remove their adhesive, and glue them together to make a round pearl. (The smaller the pearls the less height you will require for the frame.)
Before sealing, place the pearl ball inside the roulette wheel and test the movement. This ensures the ball rolls properly inside the window.
Once the ball spins freely, glue the entire assembled roulette wheel onto the opening of the front panel of the card.

Add the Sentiments

On the front, I stamped and die cut the "You’re my good luck charm!" from the So Lucky Set.
On the inside of the card, Stamp "Happy Birthday" above the Roulette Wheel.
And for some fun, I stamped the inside, using the Inside: Birthday Sentiments Stamps.

Creating the Card Base

I started with a top-folding A2 card base and die-cut it using the scallop frame die. To ensure the card remained functional, I placed the die slightly over the folded edge to create a hinge. Then, I die-cut another full scallop layer and adhered it to the front for a clean, finished look.

Stamping and Coloring the Images

One of my favorite time-saving tricks for stamping multiple images at once is using the PFS Paper Inking Palette inside my MISTI tool to keep everything perfectly aligned. Instead of peeling each stamp off the carrier sheet, I place the entire set face down onto my cardstock. Then, I carefully close the MISTI lid to pick up the stamps while ensuring they stay in place.

To keep everything secure, I flip the MISTI onto the window, opening it from back to front while holding down the lid. I then tape the edge of the carrier sheet to the window, ensuring it doesn’t shift. With everything locked in place, I ink up the entire set and stamp all the images in one go using PFS Black Hybrid Ink—quick, easy, and perfectly crisp every time!

Pro Tip: Restamping for Crisp Lines

Do not remove the stamped sheet from the MISTI. After coloring the images with Copic markers, I restamped them using the MISTI to enhance the outlines. This simple trick makes the images pop and look polished!

Once everything was colored and crisp, I used the coordinating dies to cut out the images.

Building the Scene

To create a playful and whimsical background:

I stenciled fluffy clouds using the On a Cloudy Day Stencil and added shimmer with Sparkle Paper Glitz.

I die-cut A2 Tall Grass Blades in green cardstock and added texture with Opaque Green Grass Paper Splatter.

The Hello 3.0 Word Topper Die created a bold sentiment, blending seamlessly into the grassy background.

Finally, I arranged my ducklings in a neat row, following their stylish mama! Everything was adhered using a mix of foam tape and liquid glue for dimension.

Inside the Card

I kept the inside simple but fun, stamping the sentiment:

“I am so proud that you have all of your ducks in a row. Have a lucky ducky birthday!”

This pun-filled message adds the perfect finishing touch!

Creating the Base:

I began by layering the black scalloped frame from the Lace Heart Layering Frames set onto a white card base. This contrast makes the design pop.

Die Cutting Magic:

Using the Lovely Layers: Playing Cards, I cut the suits and card shapes in white, black, red, and gold cardstock. These were layered together to create dimensional and eye-catching playing card designs. I placed the crowned suits prominently for a regal, romantic touch. The Ace card face was a last-minute change as I had done the backside of it first, you can see it peeking from the side there which made it even more realistic to playing cards.

Sentiments and Details:

The "We're The" sentiment, stamped with the Bee Creative Ink Pad - Intense Black, sets the playful tone. I combined it with a die-cut "Lucky Pair" sentiment in red and black to make it stand out.

Embellishing:

A few Simply Spring Gem Stickers were scattered for subtle sparkle, while the Gelly Roll White Pen added highlights to the die cuts for a polished finish.

Final Touch:

Assembled all elements on the card with foam tape for dimension, making sure the playing cards cascade naturally across the card front.

Front of the Card:

Background Preparation:

I started by coloring the background for the "Happy Easter Word Die" sentiment using Paper Splatter - Opaque Pale Lavender. To achieve a solid, vibrant color, I applied multiple layers and allowed the ink to dry thoroughly.

Stencil Blending:

Using the Scene Building A2 Stencil Set: Layers of Adventures, I created a soft grassy meadow and sky background with Distress Oxide Inks and Life Changing Blender Brushes. This added depth and set the stage for the shaker element.

Creating the Shaker Frame:

I die-cut the shadow layer of the Happy Easter Word Die from the stenciled background.
Next, I adhered acetate to the back of the panel and lined up and glued the die cut piece with the card base to ensure perfect alignment.
To create a well for the shaker pieces, I used foam tape around the opening, leaving enough space to add the Sequin Mix Plus - Easter Bop.
After placing the shaker bits in the center of the card base, I carefully aligned and adhered the front panel over it. Pro Tip: Adding a little glue to the foam tape allows some wiggle room to perfect the alignment.

Adding the Sentiment:

I die-cut the "Happy Easter Word Die" sentiment three times—twice in white cardstock for stacking and once with the lavender layer for the top.
Using a paintbrush, I applied a thin layer of glue across the middle-to-top portion of the letters and sprinkled Prisma Glitter for a fine sparkle.
For the bottom portion, I repeated the process with chunky glitter to create a beautiful ombré effect.
Finally, I adhered the glittered sentiment to the acetate opening.

Adding the Bunnies:
The cute bunnies from the Follow that Bunny Stamp Set were stamped with Picket Fence Studio Black Hybrid Ink, colored with Copic markers, and die-cut using the Follow that Bunny Coordinating Die Set. I arranged them around the shaker frame to complete the playful Easter scene.

Inside of the Card:

I stamped a sentiment from the Follow that Bunny Stamp Set with black ink: “Sending You an Easter Hello.”
To complement the sentiment, I added a bunny holding a balloon and used Pint Sized Paper Pouncers to color the butterflies from the Scene Building A2 Stencil Set for an extra pop of color and whimsy. To the butterflies I added a few details using a fine tip black pen.

Finishing Touches:

I added highlights with a white gel pen to the bunnies and elements for dimension.

This Easter card is packed with cuteness, sparkle, and a touch of springtime joy. The combination of Picket Fence Studios’ stamps, dies, and stencils makes creating a cohesive and professional-looking card effortless.

Shared Techniques:

Embossed Backgrounds: Both cards feature backgrounds created using the Aces - 3D Embossing Folder. A TIP to prevent tears in the paper is to lightly mist the cardstock with water before running it through your die-cut machine.
Die-Cut Letters: The "good luck" sentiment was created using the BEE Playful Lowercase Alphabet Honey Cuts. TIP - For perfect letter alignment, use a straight edge or gridlines to align them, pick up the letters with low-tack tape, and adhere them by flipping the tape like a hinge to secure the letters in place.
Vellum Layers: Both cards include vellum frames to soften the backgrounds and create dimension. I used two different frame die sets for added variety.

Card 1: Pink Ombre Letters

Background: The embossed areas were enhanced by swiping a black ink pad across the raised portions for added depth.
Sentiment: I die-cut the letters from white glitter cardstock and ink-blended a soft pink ombre effect onto them.
Frame: The vellum background was die-cut using the Lovely Layers: Party Frame.
Embellishments: The central heart was bedazzled with red gems from the Real Rainbow Gem Stickers pack, and a few extra gems were added around the card for sparkle.

Card 2: Black Glitter Letters

Background: The embossed areas were highlighted by swiping a pink ink pad across the raised portions, giving the card a bold and dramatic look.
Sentiment: The letters were cut from black glitter cardstock for a striking effect.
Frame: The vellum layer was created using the Lovely Layers: Posted Frame.
Embellishments: Red die-cut hearts from the Bold Background: Vines of Love Honey Cuts were added, with a few gems for a touch of shine.

Tips and Tricks

Prevent Tearing: Always mist your cardstock lightly before embossing with a 3D folder.
Perfect Letter Alignment: Use gridlines or a straight edge to align your letters, then use low-tack tape to lift and position them easily.
Blending Gitter Cardstock: Ink blend on glitter cardstock to create custom colors to match, or create an ombre look.

Lucky to Have You: A Gambling-Themed Shaker Card | Honey Bee Stamps

Today, I am beyond excited to share a sneak peek of the Honey Bee Stamps Perfect Match Release, featuring this playful gambling-themed shaker card! This flat shaker design is a combination of vibrant colors, glittering gold, and clever techniques—perfect for showcasing the new Jackpot Layering Stencil and other fantastic products from this collection. The background was created using the Jackpot Layering Stencil, an absolute showstopper! I blended the layers with InkOn3 inks and Honey Bee Blender Brushes to achieve a bright, casino-inspired look. The vivid pinks, reds, and greens bring out the charm of playing cards, poker chips, dice, and more. The stencil design sets the perfect tone for the card, radiating all the fun of a jackpot moment!

For the shake feature, I used the Honey Bee A2 Shaker Pockets, which are a game-changer for flat shaker cards. Here’s a helpful TIP to avoid the "pillow effect" caused by the natural spring of acetate: once you’ve glued the acetate flaps to the card panel, apply heat to the flaps to flatten them completely. This technique ensures the pocket stays flat and doesn’t puff up.

Before sealing the final flap of the shaker pocket, I added a generous amount of gold confetti, representing glittering gold coins—a nod to the casino theme. The flat shaker design makes it easy to mail, while still providing dynamic movement and sparkle.

The sentiment, "Lucky to Have You," was crafted using the Lucky to Have You sentiment die from the release. To give it dimension and shine, I:

Die-cut the sentiment once from black cardstock.
Coated the top layer with Bee Creative Clear Embossing Ink.
Added a couple of coats of clear embossing powder and heat set them for a glossy, professional finish.

The sentiment was adhered to a vellum shadow layer, adding a soft yet elegant touch that helps it stand out against the vibrant background.

To complete the design, I embellished the card front with poker chips and dice cutouts from the Lovely Layers: Roll the Dice set. For added detail, I used a white gel pen to draw highlights on the poker chips and dice before gluing them down. These small details bring the entire design to life and tie the gambling theme together seamlessly.

Make It See-Through

To create the see-through window, die-cut both the top layer and the top of the card base simultaneously using the same die through the die-cut machine. This will ensure both layers are perfectly aligned. If the bottom layer doesn’t cut all the way through, the die’s impression will serve as a guide to easily align and cut it again. I didn't use this method initially because I hadn’t planned to make the window see-through. As a result, it took a little more time to carefully align the top layer with the card base opening.

I love how cute this card turned out. The combination of soft pinks, lush greenery, and intricate details makes this card perfect for spring and Valentine’s Day!

1. Creating the Bokeh Background

To start, I created a stencil template using the Sweet Stacks: Circles - Honey Cuts. With my template in place, I blended white and silver pigment inks onto a dark cardstock background using my Blender Brushes. This created a soft and glowing bokeh light effect that adds depth and magic.

2. Die Cutting the Frame and Focal Elements

I then die cut the elegant scalloped frame using the Lovely Layouts: Party Frames - Honey Cuts. For the centerpiece, I die cut the Vintage Reindeer in layers and pieced it together, bringing this cute character to life.

I added festive greenery using the Mini Holiday Florals dies, which I enhanced with Prisma Glitter for an icy sparkle.

3. Assembling the Sentiments

For the “Happy” sentiment and the year “2025,” I used Great Greetings: Holiday and Bee Narrow Uppercase Alpha dies. To add dimension, I die cut two additional black layers for each element, stacked them together, and adhered them to the card. This extra layering really makes the sentiments pop!

4. Finishing Touches

For sparkle and shine:

I brushed glue onto the fern-like greenery and sprinkled it with Prisma Glitter.

I added Cool Pearl Stickers for a touch of dimension and elegance.

To complete the reindeer’s adorable look, I added Glossy Accents to the nose and eye for a shiny finish.

Creating the Background

The base of the card features a colorful background with paw prints and bones, and here’s how I achieved it:

Stenciling the Rainbow Paws: I used Life Changing Blender Brushes with Distress Oxide Inks in Squeezed Lemonade, Picked Raspberry, and Broken China. These blend beautifully to create a cheerful gradient across the paw prints.
Adding the Twinkling Bones: Using the bones layer of the Fetch Layering Stencil Set, I applied Twinkle Lights Clear Glaze for a subtle shine. This glaze adds dimension while keeping the background clean and playful.

The Dome Panel

To create the focal point for the card:

I die-cut the dome shape using the Basic Die Cutting Set 1.
For the shadow under the pillow, I masked the area with a sticky note and blended Black Soot Distress Oxide Ink using a Life Changing Blender Brush.
I layered the adorable puppy duo from the Happy Paws Stamp and Die Set on top of the shadow, popping them up with foam for dimension. These sweet friends were colored with Copic markers and enhanced with white and gold gel pens for highlights and tiny details.

Sentiment and Color Coordination

The sentiment, “Life is better with a friend,” perfectly matches the cozy scene. To keep the theme vibrant:

Once the sentiment was positioned in the Misti, I then added the Squeezed Lemon to the middle of the stamp and diffused the edges of the ink using a Pint-sized Paper Pouncer to blend it out. I then moved on to the Picked Raspberry on top and the Broken China on the bottom. Diffusing each color with the coordinating Pint-sized Paper Pouncer. This colorful sentiment mirrors the rainbow tones from the background.
This cohesive approach ties the entire design together beautifully!

Crafty Tip: Seamless Die Cuts

When working with multiple die-cut images that have white border edges, you can create the illusion of a seamless join by following this trick:

Die-cut your images and arrange them to determine where they overlap.
Fussy cut the white edge off one of the images where it overlaps with the other.
To clean up the cut edge, run a black marker along it to mimic the stamped outline.
Glue the two pieces together, and voilà! Your die-cut images will look like one continuous piece.

This tip works perfectly for the adorable puppy duo on this card!

Finishing Touches

To assemble:

I adhered the stenciled background to a card base.
The dome panel was popped up with foam tape for added depth.
For the final touch, I scattered Celestial Skies Gems around the design, adding a hint of sparkle.

This card is bursting with personality, from the happy pups to the rainbow hues and sparkling details. It’s a heartwarming reminder that life truly is better with friends—especially the furry ones!

CARD RECIPE

Ink, Stamps, Dies and Stencil:

- Fetch Layering Stencil Set - Pint-sized pouncer used for selective stenciling
- Life is Better with a Furry Friend Stamp Set - Inside Card
Cardstock and Base:
- White Slimline card panel
- Black slimline card panel
- White Slimline card base (Finished 8.5 x 4 inches)
Coloring Supplies:
- Prismacolor Pencils
- Gamsol mineral spirits - for blending (optional)
Finishing Details:
- Gold 1.0 Karin DecoGel Pen
- Glossy Accents
- Black Sharpie pen
- Clay white heart embellishment

Stamping:

Start by stamping the puppy image from You Hold My Heart in Your Paw Stamps using the Picket Fence Studio Black Hybrid Ink Pad onto the top of a slimline card panel.

Colouring:

Use Prismacolor pencils to bring the stamped image to life. Blend various shades to give depth and dimension to the puppy's fur and features. Normally, I would have used some Gamsol to blend out the pencil strokes, but I couldn’t find it in my stash.
Add highlights to the puppy’s face using the Gold 1.0 Karin DecoGel Pen. This adds a touch of shimmer and accentuates key areas.
This puppy reminds me of our dog, so I made it look like her, what a cutie!

Cutting the Sentiment:

Use the Thanks Stacked Word Die to cut out the "Thanks" sentiment from the lower part of the card panel. Save the cut-out pieces for later.
To create a shadow effect, die-cut the same sentiment twice more from black cardstock. Stack these layers together, adhering them with glue, before placing the original die cut "Thanks" layer on top.

Card Base:

Adhere the completed card panel onto a black slimline card panel for a bold border.
Finally, glue everything onto a slimline card base measuring 8.5 x 4 inches.

Embellishment:

Complete the design by adhering a tiny clay white heart to the card front. This small detail adds a bit of sweetness and ties the entire design together.

Adding gloss and texture:

Apply Glossy Accents to the puppy’s eyes and nose. Allow it to dry completely to create a glossy, dimensional effect.
Use a black Sharpie pen to add some faux splatter around the card for a playful, artistic touch.
With the Fetch Layering Stencil Set, add a small paw print to the corner of the card for extra charm. I used the black Pint-sized pouncer for selective stenciling and the PFS Black Hybrid Ink.

The Inside:

On the inside of the card, use the same Fetch Layering Stencil Set to add paw prints around the sentiment. The sentiment, "You're pawsome," comes from the new Life is Better with a Furry Friend Stamp Set.

The result is a stunning slimline thank-you card that’s both playful and heartfelt. The combination of bold lettering, intricate coloring, and thoughtful details makes this card a unique keepsake for the recipient.

Horizon Slimline Borders - Honey Cuts: Used to create the snowy hills on the shaker fronts.
Bee Creative A2 Shaker Pockets: Essential for the shaker base.
Gingerbread Pearl Stickers: To add fun embellishments.

Shaker Fillings:

Bokeh Lights Confetti Mix

Additional Supplies:

Background Details:

Cardstock Panels: Cut pink, blue, and white cardstock slightly smaller than A2 size for the inside panels. Splatter them with white ink for a snowy effect.

Shaker Pocket Hacks

Flattening the Shaker Pocket:
To eliminate the "pillow effect" caused by the acetate's natural spring, using a heat gun apply gentle heat to the glued tabs once attached to the paper. This resets the plastic's memory, leaving your shaker cards flat and polished.
Keep It Clean:
Leave the protective film on the shaker pocket until you're ready to glue it to the card base. This prevents scratches and ensures a pristine finish!
Use flat fillers for smoother movement inside the shaker. The flatter the bits, the more fluid the movement!

Create the Shaker:

For the inside of each shaker, I cut pink, blue, and white cardstock panels slightly smaller than A2 size. Splatter with white pigment ink for a snowy backdrop. Place these panels inside the Bee Creative A2 Shaker Pockets, and seal 3/4 sides. Fill each shaker pocket with shaker bits like Bokeh Lights Confetti Mix, Candyland Clay Pieces, Peppermint Ice Clay Pieces, and sequins for maximum movement. Seal the pocket and apply heat to the tabs for a flat, sleek look if you do not like the natural forming pillow effect.

Create the Gingerbread Scene:
Use the Lovely Layers: Alice's Gingerbread Lane Honey Cuts to die-cut the gingerbread houses. Add chunky glitter to mimic snow, and use Copic markers for shading and depth.

Assemble the Scene:
Use the Horizon Slimline Borders Honey Cuts to die-cut snowy hills, and adhere these along with the houses and die-cut sentiments directly onto the front of the shaker pocket.

Add Final Touches:
Embellish the gingerbread houses with Gingerbread Pearl Stickers and sprinkles.

Finish the Inside Sentiments:
Stamp cheerful holiday sentiments from the Sprinkled With Joy Stamp Set using a blue ink pad. These coordinate beautifully with the pastel tones of the cards.

How It Came Together

To bring Santa's story to life, I used layers of dimension and details to create a warm fireplace scene using the Lovely Layers: Fireplace - Honey Cuts and the Lovely Layers: Fireplace Holiday Add-On - Honey Cuts. The pop-up fireplace adds an interactive element, while the surrounding embellishments—like stockings, garlands, and glowing flames—help set the perfect Christmas scene. Here’s a breakdown of how I created this card.

Building the Pop-Up Fireplace

Creating the Pop-Up Mechanism: I made two "springs" for the sides of the fireplace. Each was crafted from 2” x 2” black cardstock pieces, scored every 1/2 inch. These springs allow the fireplace to pop up beautifully when the card is opened.

Adding Depth to the Fireplace

I layered black cardstock behind the fireplace to create the illusion of depth and added die-cut flames at the bottom for a glowing effect. The white fireplace layer was die-cut with an opening to show the fire, and I added a second die-cut layer with a smaller, fussy-cut opening to give the fireplace surround a clean, finished look.

Decorative Details

Festive Fireplace: I used the Lovely Layers: Fireplace die along with the Lovely Layers: Fireplace Holiday Add-On set to decorate the mantle with garlands, candles, and a wreath adorned with gems for a sparkling finish.

Santa’s Arrival: Santa’s legs were die-cut and positioned as if he’s coming down the chimney. His bright red gift bag sits in front, ready to deliver presents!

Stockings & More: The plaid stockings hanging on the mantle add a cozy touch, and the woodgrain embossed floor anchors the entire scene.

Coordinating Envelope with Wax Seal

To complement the card, I created a red envelope sealed with a handmade wax seal using the North Pole Wax Stamper and Gingerbread Wax Melts. This special touch adds an extra layer of elegance and holiday charm. The seal is partially attached to the envelope flap by the Bee Creative 1" Wax Seal Sticker. The envelope is ready to put through the mail simply by removing the protective layer and gluing down the flap.

Mail-Friendly Design

Not only is this card a fun pop-up, but it also folds completely flat, making it easy to mail to your loved ones. The thoughtful design ensures it arrives ready to pop into action and spread holiday cheer!

Handmade Holiday Felt Tags | Spellbinders

Hello crafty friends! Today, I'm excited to share these adorable felt gift tags I created using the Spellbinders Felt Stitch & Create Collection by Nicole Spohr. While the collection includes dies for creating specific characters, I decided to put my own twist on things, mixing and matching elements to make these tags uniquely my own.

Gingerbread Tag

The gingerbread tag uses the Felt Gingerbread Boy & Girl Etched Dies as its base. I added details like a Santa hat and small embellishments for a fun holiday twist. To give the gingerbread person that cozy, shaded look, I used ink blending brushes with Distress Oxide Inks on the edges. This shading technique really brings warmth and dimension to the felt.

For extra holiday cheer, I attached enamel stickers to create eyes and decorate the mini Christmas tree in its hand. A bit of embroidery floss added stitched details to enhance the design, and some pieces were carefully glued to keep everything secure.

Snowman Tag

Though designed to make a snowy owl, I experimented by reimagining the designs and combining dies from each set to create a cheerful snowman!

The snowman tag was created by using parts of the Felt Snowy Owl Etched Dies. I borrowed the Santa brim die and buttons from the gingerbread set to customize it further. His eyes and mouth are made with enamel stickers, giving him a cheerful and expressive face. The arms are made with a bit of craft foam pad to provide structure and add that handcrafted touch.

To add color to the snowman's cheeks, I used Distress Oxide Inks with blending brushes. For an extra playful detail, I added a mini pompom to the hat.

Assembly Tips

To stitch everything together, I used embroidery floss in coordinating colors, which not only secures the felt pieces but also adds a nice handmade touch. Some of the smaller embellishments and layered pieces were attached using glue for extra stability.

For the final touch, I added a coordinating thread at the top of each tag so they can be easily tied to gifts. These threads match each character’s color scheme, making them feel even more finished and polished.

Breaking the Pattern Rules

One of my favorite things about this project was breaking the traditional assembly rules. I enjoyed mixing and matching the die pieces and adding my own materials, like enamel stickers, craft foam, and distress ink shading, to bring these characters to life. This project shows just how versatile dies can be – sometimes, a little creativity and willingness to experiment can turn a standard die set into something totally unexpected!

These felt tags make such a delightful addition to holiday gifts, adding a handmade, personalized touch. Plus, they can double as tree ornaments after the gift has been opened, making them a gift in themselves!
