			<title>Info: Foundation Grants, Charity...</title>
			<link>http://feedproxy.google.com/~r/IdilogicOnAidpage/~3/QboPjU4yfp0/</link>
<description>We are happy to offer - here on Aidpage - free access to information about over 20,000 largest foundations and other grant giving non-profit organizations reporting to the US Internal Revenue Service (IRS).
Included are grantors (grant giving organizations) with assets of over $1,000,000. Also included are basic profiles of over 45,000 grant recipient organizations.
The total number of the listed grants is over 440,000 with over 200,000 grant recipients. The minimum size of the grants listed is $5,000.
The single largest grant we have seen so far is $302,476,000 given by William &amp; Flora Hewlett Foundation to The Board Of Trustees Of The Leland Stanford Junior University (commonly known as Stanford University). But wait... there is more... in the same year (2003)... the same foundation gave at least one more grant to the same Stanford University... for the modest amount of $76,272,000 only.
Don't be surprised by some not-so-meaningful categories while browsing. We take them "as they come" from raw IRS data sources. It should be noted also that nonprofit organizations have a somewhat spotty record in reporting fully and accurately their activities to the IRS (see related post on this problem). This means that the information cannot be treated as final, complete, comprehensive, or fully accurate. But it is the best information available... from the most trusted sources. Some of the data we purchased from GuideStar - a nonprofit created specifically for the purpose of gathering information about the nonprofit sector.

<title>What is NTEE - The National Taxonomy of Exempt Entities?</title>
			<link>http://feedproxy.google.com/~r/IdilogicOnAidpage/~3/gFAdhrIac3s/</link>
<description>This explanation is from the web site of the National Center for Charitable Statistics:
"Nonprofit organizations cover a wide range of activities, services, and programs. Without a classification system that groups similar charities by purpose, type, or major function, it is difficult to understand the work of the nonprofit sector.
The National Taxonomy of Exempt Entities (NTEE) is a definitive classification system for nonprofit organizations recognized as tax exempt under Internal Revenue Code 501(c)(3). The system, developed by the NCCS with the guidance of leading nonprofit scholars and practitioners, is used by the IRS, as well as INDEPENDENT SECTOR, the Foundation Center, AAFRC Trust for Philanthropy, and many grantmakers, foundations, researchers, and others working with nonprofit organizations."

<description>Tax exempt non-profits and foundations report their activities to the Internal Revenue Services (IRS) on the so-called Forms 990.
These annual reports to the IRS can be a good source of information about the grants distributed and/or received by these organizations - despite widespread problems with non-reporting, under-reporting, or simply inaccurate reporting by the more than 1,000,000 tax exempt organizations (more on this here).
A big problem though is the difficulty in going through the many pages of these reports... and knowing where exactly is the information about the grants.
That's why, we offer here a quick guide on how to look for grant information in a 990 form.
There are three different forms: Form 990PF, Form 990, and Form 990EZ.
