"I've been working up to this for a long time. This is the film that I always thought I wanted to make...," Cameron tells reporter Morley Safer. "I've loved fantasy and science fiction since I was a kid...I've been drawing creatures and characters and robots and spaceships since I was in high school."

Cameron thinks "Avatar" will go all the way and forever change Hollywood, which has had several flings with 3-D going back the 1950s. It could go beyond that, too. "Maybe [3-D] becomes the standard for newsgathering. Maybe...for sports," says Cameron.

Interview: Zac Efron, Claire Danes and ME AND ORSON WELLES

One of Hollywood's most promising young talents, Zac Efron's career in film and television continues to evolve with challenging roles in exciting projects. Transitioning effortlessly from the small to big screen, the actor is now playing Richard Samuels, a 17-year-old who happens to land a role in a re-imagined production of Julius Caesar from a young director named Orson Welles, in Me and Orson Welles.

At the press day for the film, Zac Efron and co-star Claire Danes, who plays Sonja Jones, Welles' assistant and a love interest for both characters, talked about developing their 1930's characters.

Q: What made each of you decide to do this film?

Zac: It was different and it was a very unique opportunity for me, at the time, and still is. It was something that didn't seem so cut and dry. It wasn't an obvious decision, and even I was a bit surprised, and that's very cool. I hope I can continue to maintain that and have those options. We do this to grow and try new things, and that was exactly what this movie represented for me, so thank God. It came at a perfect time.

Claire: The script was wonderful. It's really not that often that you read a script that is immediately engaging, coherent and charming. I loved all of the characters. They were all so detailed and specific. And, Richard Linklater was directing it, and I just love his work.

Zac: It seemed ambitious to me. Rick always says we made a screwball comedy about Welles, which is something he would never have done himself. We put him into a movie that he never would have been a part of.

Q: Zac, how do you feel about the fact that something you wear usually effects fashion a little bit?

Zac: It's all about accessories. I notice people that look good. I notice fashion on other people. I enjoy when people try to look their best. I was always taught to try and look my best. That's my main influence. I'm not looking to influence fashion, any more than the next guy. But, I try to do my best when I'm out representing my movies.

Q: Did you like the clothes from the 1930's in the film?

Zac: I think I stole some of the stuff. On the last day, they always try to get it out of your trailer, really quick. I always steal some of my wardrobe. I never know what I'm going to need.

Q: What kind of research did you do for this role? Did you read the original book?

Zac: I read the original book. For my age, I pretty much had the standard knowledge about Orson Welles. I studied him in high school, a little bit before that, and was familiar with a lot of his work, like the War of the Worlds radio broadcast. Coming into this, I thought I was pretty well-read on Orson and then immediately found out that I hadn't even scratched the surface on this guy. Rick Linklater was the one who really filled us in and supplied us with endless literature, articles and old photos. I think I've seen every picture of Orson that ever existed.

Q: Were you a fan of his work?

Zac: Yeah, definitely

Claire: It's hard not to be.

Q: What was your first introduction to Orson Welles? Was it through a movie?

Claire: I discovered Orson Welles in college. My freshman English professor screened Citizen Kane for us and I ended up writing a 20-page term paper on it. I'm sure that I'm not the only one. Many a term paper is dedicated to Orson Welles. So, I fell in love with him there, and since then I've seen a few other of his films, but didn't realize that he'd been such a revolutionary figure in theater as well, and then radio. He was really a maverick, in so many different mediums, at such a young age. It's mind-boggling.

Zac: At 22, he'd done more than anybody could ever dream.

Q: He was pretty arrogant at 22, though.

Claire: Well, yeah, and rightfully so. The movie talks about the confusion of that. Even Sonja says, "With someone like Orson, you excuse a lot of behavior." It's true. When somebody's ego is in service of really brilliant, innovative work, it's hard to criticize their failures as a human.

Q: Zac, what was your first introduction to Orson Welles and when?

Zac: I was probably 16. I had worked with a director who said his favorite movie of all time was Citizen Kane and, as a wrap gift, he gave me the DVD. I was definitely fascinated by it and thought it was an incredible movie, but was probably too young to fully appreciate it, at that point.

Q: Your character, Richard, has to learn a lesson about dealing with Hollywood-type egos. Have you had to learn any lessons like that?

Zac: I think things have changed a little bit. I've never had an experience quite like that. I'd say it was reminiscent of a lot of my early theater experiences. It's pretty cut-throat and there was always another kid to pull from the sidelines, ready to take your place. But, I never experienced a guy quite like Orson.

Claire: Not many people have.

Q: When preparing for the project, did you just sit and watch The Magnificent Ambersons and then justify it as research?

Claire: I didn't with this movie.

Zac: This movie predates any of his films. At this point, in Welles career, he hadn't done that.

Q: Did you want to just watch any of his films, though?

Claire: Netflix is great for that. My husband (actor Hugh Dancy) and I watched a lot of Hitchcock movies in bulk, and there's a lot to be gained from focusing strictly on one artist's canon. I recently presented Robert DeNiro with an award and watched a lot of his movies. It's true that, when you see the work in concentration like that, it's really revealing.

Q: Zac, does it give you a sense of accomplishment that, because of your participation in this film, you're going to have a lot of young people out there get introduced to Orson Welles, who maybe never would have?

Zac: Exactly. People ask, "What about Orson Welles is going to attract a young audience?" But, what I'm hoping is that the audience that does come is able to enjoy this experience with such an iconic guy. Hopefully, it'll spark their interest and they'll be able to learn more and go find out about Welles and his amazing, very interesting roller coaster career.

Q: Your character, Richard, is based on a real person. Did you get to meet him?

Zac: No. He's based on a real person, but Rick Linklater was very hands-on, in trying to get as much of his story as we could. All the stuff with setting off the fire alarms was real. Other than that, he steered pretty far away from the real guy.

Q: Did you two meet over coffee or anything to talk about your parts before filming?

Claire: We rehearsed, mostly with Christian McKay and Rick Linklater, for a few days, and then they rehearsed again with the people in the play within the movie. I wasn't involved with that.

Q: Claire, since Sonja wasn't based on a real person, but was a compilation of people, did you base her on anyone you knew?

Claire: No. She's written so well. She was really vivid on the page, so I didn't have to stretch my imagination too much. She's bright and she's ambitious. I'm always impressed by that. I always think that's a good thing, especially in that time when woman were discouraged to do that and their goals were more confined and limited. Sonja is pretty brazen.

Q: What was it like to rehearse with Christian and develop your characters?

Claire: He was great. He adapted it pretty brilliantly.

Zac: Originally, he alluded to the fact that he was a bit nervous, coming in with very little experience on film. And, I just remember that, from the second I heard him speak and hung out with him and saw his personality, I'd never felt more confident in a leading man. He's very intelligent and a very quick study. Me and Claire sat in the room on the first day of rehearsals, when he read his lines for the first time as Orson, and were shocked. I was floored.

Claire: He'd also played the role on stage, and that was a good foundation for him, but he was playing him much later in life.

Zac: He exceeded our wildest expectations. It was absolutely incredible, and even better just to be with him and hang out. He definitely deserves all this.

Q: Zac, have you seen any early drafts or songs for Hairspray 2?

Zac: No, not at all.

Q: Are you going to do it?

Zac: You know what? I have not heard anything about it at all.

Q: Are you doing Jonny Quest?

Zac: Once again, I don't know.

Q: You recently wrapped The Death and Life of Charlie St. Cloud in Vancouver. Who do you play in the film?

Zac: I play a character named Charlie, who is the golden boy in his high school, and then his life takes a turn with the death of his little brother. It's a story about how he copes with that, and it's a love story. It's hard to explain. It always comes across like I'm digging graves.

Claire: Also, he's just finished filming it. I never know what a movie is about, when I've just done it. I get too close to it and it's fuzzy.

Q: Claire, what are you doing next?

Claire: I'm doing a movie for HBO, called Temple Grandin (about a woman who became a best-selling author and one of the top scientists in the field of humane livestock handling).

Interview: Director Richard Linklater Says It’s Just ME AND ORSON WELLES

Based in real theatrical history, Me and Orson Welles is a comedic coming-of-age story about a teenage actor who lucks into a role in Julius Caesar as it's being re-imagined by a brilliant, impetuous young director named Orson Welles, at his newly-founded Mercury Theater in New York City in 1937. The roller coaster week leading up to opening night has the charismatic, but sometimes cruel Welles (Christian McKay) staking his career on this risky production while 17-year-old Richard Samuels (Zac Efron) mixes with everyone from starlets to stagehands, as he is on the road for his own self-discovery.

During the film's press day, director/producer Richard Linklater talked about finding the perfect actors to play these real-life characters.

Q: Why were these actors right for these roles?

Richard: There's an art of the ensemble, and I enjoy it. It's a lot of fun to put together. But, we had to get an Orson first. I wasn't going to make this movie if I couldn't get the right Orson. I wasn't going to misrepresent that. So, once I had found Christian McKay, then Zac Efron was the next part of that. You just have a feel of who is going to work well together. People say, "Zac and Claire have a chemistry. Did you test that?" You don't test. I offered it to Claire when she came in. You manufacture it. They're actors. They rehearse a lot.

Q: You'd seen Christian in a play doing Orson. Did you tweak his performance from that to a different kind of Orson for the movie, or did he have the character down?

Richard: He had an element of it down, but it was a different point in Welles' life. That play is really Orson as an older guy, in a fat suit. It was an older Orson. It starts at War of the Worlds, but it's him looking back. And so, this was a whole different thing entirely. It was a big theatre production. It was just about working with Christian within the framework and the boundaries of film. We worked together a long time, but it wasn't me instructing him exactly how to play Orson. He had that, to such a large degree. It was just answering all his questions and making him feel comfortable in the ensemble.

Q: Were you relieved when you found him, since he's so good?

Richard: Yeah, but I actually fell out with the producer. I thought, "Oh, we can make the movie now," and the producer I was working with said, "He's good, but not great." They wanted a name. I was like, "No, don't you see? The magic is to have an unknown, so that you think you're hanging out with the real Orson." It didn't help us get financing, when the main person in your movie is Orson Welles, and no one knows who that is. But, for the future viewer, if there is one, it's good for the film.

Q: Did it help to have some names in the other parts?

Richard: Not really. It didn't get financed in the U.S. We went to Europe and put it together over there.

Q: Did you approach Zac, or did he come in and audition?

Richard: I own the rights to the book myself and we were just pursuing it on our own. I said, "I need a Richard," someone mentioned Zac and I was like, "I'll meet anyone." I don't judge an actor before I meet them. So, I sat down with him and, 15 or 20 seconds in, I was like, "This kid's great."

Zac is a leading man. To have a guy who could really go toe-to-toe with the biggest personality of the 20th century, you needed a leading man who had that charisma, and that's Zac. He really has that. The camera loves him. He has a strong presence. He's smart. Orson underestimates him and then realizes, "This kid is a step ahead of me." That's how Zac is. If you ever underestimate him, you realize that he's really two steps ahead of you. Don't play poker with him.

Q: Is Zac getting tired of playing the role of a high school boy?

Richard: Although he's technically a high school student in this, it's clear he's already gone beyond that. He's working with all these Broadway actors. I don't remember him being too hung up about his character still being in high school.

Q: Your camera is always moving in this. Was that important to you, to keep the sense of dynamics in a theatre story?

Richard: Yeah. This is also a little bit like a screwball comedy that's always on its feet, always moving. There's a certain trajectory and pace to it all. I didn't want to shoot it like it was 1930. They didn't move the camera that much by then. I used a steady-cam.

Q: Is Claire's character a composite of several women who knew Orson, or is she just completely manufactured?

Richard: She's more fictional, whereas Zac's character is loosely based on a teenager who was in the show. He was only 15, so there's a fictional element to it. A lot of that really happened, though. He set off the sprinklers, and all that. Claire's character is more fictional.

Q: What are the challenges of capturing this time period? How difficult was it to get all of the details right?

Richard: Every time you do a period film, there's the fun and the magic of filmmaking to try to recreate that period, but that was a huge challenge. We were lucky. We had a lot of the original stage drawings. I had the original score to the play. I had the text for Welles' adaptation of Caesar. We had some photos that really informed our costumes and our lighting of the play itself. Cecil Beaton did a series of photos back then, that appeared in Life Magazine. There's one of Welles on stage and this little teenage kid with the little ukulele. That's a famous photo. It was a lot of fun to try to recreate that.

Q: Coming from the stage, did you have to teach Christian how to follow the technical details?

Richard: He had a ton of questions. He was familiar, but a lot of it was about dialing it down. We rehearsed a lot, both the Shakespeare and his character. I was fortunate that I'd cast Christian six or seven months in advance, before we were shooting. We corresponded regularly, and he went to the gym and lost weight.

Usually, you just rehearse the last couple of weeks right before production, but I started working with him early, through the entire pre-production. We'd work on weekends and at night, but that was great fun. We would just sit around in a room, talk about Welles and go through scenes. It really helped me, as a director, to dial in my exact thoughts, on every scene. He's a great collaborator. Christian is like Welles. He's kind of a director. He created that one-man show with a few other people. He's writing at thing on Churchill and Richard Burton. He's an amazing guy.

Q: What was it like on the set? Did he go in and out of character, or did he stay as Welles throughout?

Richard: He went in and out. The Brits aren't mad. That would be crazy. He just turned it off immediately and was friendly. The irony is that he was probably the least experienced film actor. He doesn't know a lot. But, he belonged there. For no second, did he think he was a fish out of water or not worthy. You want a Welles who it wasn't outside the realm of possibility for him to be a lead in a big movie. That was okay with Christian.

Q: Considering Zac Efron's fans probably don't know who Orson Welles is, did you feel pressure at all to include Zac in a lot of the promo shots and scenes?

Richard: I never really thought about it. The movie is unique, in that it appeals to a wide audience. Old people like this movie, and young people like it, too. I've run into a lot of older people, if they don't have a grandkid or someone who informs them, that don't know who Zac is. I've had old people say, "Who's the kid? That boy's great!" And then, I have kids going, "I love the movie. Who's Orson?" They're intrigued with Orson. I'm happy about that.

Q: In researching Orson Welles, what did you discover that was new to you?

Richard: I think I had the same knowledge of Welles as any film person. I've read various biographies, and you know all the films and the life, and everyone has their theories. But, it was a lot of fun to go to the early Welles, to this period in his life that most people don't know much about. I'd heard about the productions and the general stuff, but it was fun to throw myself completely into the young Mr. Welles. Catch them young, and it says everything about the future. Whatever you want to see, you can project onto them, at that early moment.

Q: Can you talk about the editing process on this? Were there any story lines that you shot, that had to be removed for time?

Richard: No, it's pretty accurate to the script, which is pretty faithful to the book. Fifteen films later, I've really learned how to get things started. But, that said, there was stuff in Zac's character's home life, with a few more scenes at home, that I ultimately didn't really need. And, there was more of the play itself. It will be on the DVD.

Q: Would you do an extended DVD, or include them as separate deleted scenes?

Richard: Deleted scenes. The film is the film. I've never had a new cut of a movie.

Q: You had a heck of a time getting a proper DVD of Dazed and Confused released. Will there ever be a proper Blu-ray?

Richard: That took awhile. I'm not sure. Criterion has it now. I don't know. Maybe they'd reissue that in Blu-ray. I'm not sure.

Q: What next for you, School of Rock 2?

Richard: No. That's been overstated. It's certainly not on the front burner. We had a meeting or two.

Q: So, what is next on your agenda?

Richard: I'm not sure. I've got three projects, and any one of them could go. It's hard. It's a tough time. It's the worst it's ever been.

In "Chuck," the world's nerdiest secret agent is back in the one-hour action-comedy series. Chuck is transformed into the Intersect 2.0 after another data download into his brain. This time, he not only knows government secrets, but he is also well equipped with deadly fight skills. Chuck has the potential to become a real agent, but he has one problem -- his emotions. Now he faces the battle of keeping his emotions in check in order to protect himself and the people around him.

The ever stoic Colonel John Casey (Adam Baldwin, "My Bodyguard") returns with partner Sarah Walker (Yvonne Strahovski, "Gone"), one of the CIA's top agents and Chuck's dream girl. As Chuck assumes his new role as the Intersect 2.0, Casey and Sarah need to protect him but also help him become the agent he is destined to be.

Chuck's Buy More team consists of Big Mike (Mark Christopher Lawrence, "The Pursuit of Happyness") and the Nerd Herd, which includes Lester (Vik Sahay, "Time Bomb") and Jeff (Scott Krinsky, "The O.C.")

New International AVATAR Featurette Now Online

IGN UK has just premiered an international featurette for Jim Cameron's AVATAR film due out in theaters December 18.

AVATAR takes us to a spectacular world beyond imagination, where a reluctant hero embarks on an epic adventure, ultimately fighting to save the alien world he has learned to call home.

James Cameron, the Oscar-winning director of "Titanic," first conceived the film 15 years ago, when the means to realize his vision did not exist yet. Now, after four years of production, AVATAR, a live action film with a new generation of special effects, delivers a fully immersive cinematic experience of a new kind, where the revolutionary technology invented to make the film disappears into the emotion of the characters and the sweep of the story.

Brad Pitt Ventures Into "Dark Void"

Brad's getting brave by stepping into video game adaptations. Here's the latest from Variety this morning:

Brad Pitt's Plan B and Indian media conglom Reliance Big Pictures have inked a deal with vidgame company Capcom to develop a feature film based on the "Dark Void" computer game as a potential franchise and starring vehicle for the actor.

Capcom will release "Dark Void," about a pilot who crash lands in the Bermuda Triangle following a routine mission and wakes up to find himself in an alternate world resembling a primitive earth where aliens with superior technology are planning to take over civilization, in North America and Europe in January next year.

Project is the first to come out of Reliance's development silo with Plan B after the deal was first announced at the Cannes film festival last year

I'm a big gamer nerd so I couldn't help but post this. Dark Void is a very anticipated title slated for release on Xbox, PS3 and PC in Jan. 2010. Can't wait for the game, let's hope the movie turns out well.

Jedi Master Luminara Unduli Takes Matters into Her Own Hands in an All-New Episode of STAR WARS: THE CLONE WARS

In pursuit of Poggle the Lesser, Jedi Master Luminara Unduli descends deep into the catacombs of Geonosis, where she uncovers an even greater threat to the galaxy in "Legacy of Terror," an all-new episode of STAR WARS: THE CLONE WARS, airing at 9:00 p.m. ET/PT Friday, November 20 on Cartoon Network.

When Luminara disappears while tracking the Geonosian warlord, Obi-Wan Kenobi and Anakin Skywalker lead a platoon of clone troopers in search of her. Following her trail, the heroes descend deep into the lair of the grotesque Geonosian queen - Karina the Great - where they discover that the hive is alive and teeming with undead defenders.

Though the episode finds Luminara confronted by agents of evil deep within the darkest bowels of Karina's underground nest, actress Olivia d'Abo saw her character's strength reflected by the grave nature of the circumstances. Rather than succumbing to despair, Luminara embodies the teachings of the Jedi Order even in desperate times. Despite her thoughtful and meditative nature, she is nonetheless a dedicated protector of peace and justice - and a formidable warrior when called to action. Faced with the potential escape of her quarry, she doesn't hesitate to follow Poggle into the heart of darkness. Devoted to her noble cause even at the risk of life and limb, she is the quintessential Jedi Master - brave, strong, sage and selfless.

"Luminara is a Jedi, so she's always going to have that ability to focus and remain calm," says d'Abo "I'm thrilled to be playing a role that requires such wisdom and strength; it is really empowering.

Despite Luminara's seemingly desperate plight, d'Abo relished the opportunity to tap into imagination and celebrate the creative spirit of the "galaxy far, far away."

"The themes and characters in the [live-action] films have had such a major influence on me and everyone I know," says d'Abo. "As a child, Star Wars allowed me to fall into another world that was more vivid, more defined, more authentic and so much more exciting. There's nothing lightweight about the philosophy of the films, and I am finding that The Clone Wars series is just as timeless."

Though perhaps best known for her role as Kevin Arnold's older sister in TV's The Wonder Years, d'Abo boasts a career that has included such iconic genre properties as Conan the Destroyer, Green Lantern: First Flight and Ultimate Avengers.

"I love science-fiction, the fantasy genre, and comic books," she says. "They tend to stand the test of time because of their marvelous content; these kinds of projects will always capture people's attention by providing far-away settings we'd like to escape to. I've been really lucky with all my roles and projects because I have an innate understanding of what they require. I just jump in and make them my own."

"47 Ronin" May Have A Director

Rumor has it that Universal has vultures circling a potential Director for "47 Ronin". Here's the news from Variety:

Universal Pictures is near a deal with Carl Erik Rinsch to make his feature directing debut on "47 Ronin," the epic period samurai swordsmen tale that will star Keanu Reeves.
Scott Stuber is producing through his Stuber Pictures banner, with Pam Abdy also aboard in a producing capacity.

Pic is a priority project for Universal, and it is unusual to see a first-timer entrusted to helm a film with a large budget and tentpole aspirations.

Rinsch, who shoots commercials for RSA, has been on Hollywood's radar. RSA owners Ridley and Tony Scott previously had discussions with Rinsch to direct a prequel to "Aliens," until Ridley Scott decided to return to the franchise he launched.

Rinsch is known for shooting visual and stylish blurbs for such brands as Mercedes, Sprite, BMW and Heineken.

Actioner "47 Ronin" tells the famous fact-based story of a band of samurai swordsmen who avenge the death of their master in 18th century Japan. The Chris Morgan ("Wanted") script was tailored so that the half-Asian Reeves can play one of the swordsmen. The picture mixes the fantastical elements of films like "The Lord of the Rings" with battle scenes of the sort found in "Gladiator" and "300."

Walter Hamada and Chris Fenton are exec producers.

I like how they mention that Reeves is half-Asian... Hope they find a full Asian. There's a plethora, yeah I said plethora, of great Asian actors. No need to sell ourselves short now... And really, a commercial director... guess we'll see how this plays out. A source tells me there may be a spoiler floating around, guess you'll have to stay tuned. That the scoop.

Tim Burton Says He Has a Lot to Do in a Short Period of Time on ALICE IN WONDERLAND

A major retrospective of director/producer Tim Burton's carrer will be on display at the Museum of Modern Art in New York starting November 22 through April 26, 2010.

Burton himself was at the exhibition today and talked a bit about his next project ALICE IN WONDERLAND that he is currently working on with Johnny Depp as the Mad Hatter.

Here's what he had to say about the status of the film set to be released in 2010,

"I'm still working on it. I got a lot to do in a short period of time. ... I shouldn't even be here."

Answering the question of why he took on the Alice film, he said, "I've never seen adaptations in film I liked," adding that he felt Alice was rather passive.

More info on the exhibition is below,

The Museum of Modern Art presents Tim Burton, a major retrospective exploring the full scale of Tim Burton's career, both as a director and concept artist for live-action and animated films, and as an artist, illustrator, photographer, and writer. On view from November 22, 2009, through April 26, 2010, the exhibition brings together over 700
examples of sketchbooks, concept art, drawings, paintings, photographs, and a selection of his amateur films, and is the Museum's most comprehensive monographic exhibition devoted to a filmmaker. An extensive film retrospective spanning Burton's 27-year career runs throughout the exhibition, along with a related series of films that influenced, inspired, and intrigued Burton as a filmmaker. Tim Burton is organized by Ron Magliozzi, Assistant Curator, and Jenny He, Curatorial Assistant, Department of Film, with Rajendra Roy, The Celeste Bartos Chief Curator of Film, The Museum of Modern Art. Tim Burton is sponsored by Syfy.

The exhibition is on view throughout the Museum: the Special Exhibitions Gallery on the
third floor features hundreds of drawings, paintings, sculptures, sketchbooks, and moving image works. Downstairs, in the Museum's Roy and Niuta Titus Theater Lobbies, a selection of largescale Polaroids created by Burton is joined by a selection of domestic and international film posters from his feature films, while musical compositions specifically chosen for the exhibition by Burton's longtime collaborator Danny Elfman plays over the gallery's speakers. In MoMA's Agnes Gund Garden Lobby and Abby Aldrich Rockefeller Sculpture Garden, a large-scale balloon and a deer-shaped topiary inspired by Edward Scissorhands are on view.

"Thor" gets more of a supporting cast. Variety had the news earlier today:

"Thor" helmer Kenneth Branagh has locked Stuart Townsend, Ray Stevenson, and Tadanobu Asano to play Warrior's Three, a trio of Asgardian adventurers who fight alongside the Norse god in the Marvel Entertainment drama.
Anthony Hopkins, Tom Hiddleston and Natalie Portman also star in the pic scripted by Mark Protosevich and Zack Stentz. Paramount Pictures will release "Thor" on May 20, 2011.

So add these big names with Chris Hemsworth of Star Trek as Thor and this is shaping up to be a pretty awesome movie. I mean Hopkins is playing Odin... Need I say more. That the scoop.

Another New Image from AVATAR

A new image of Zoe Saldana's character, Neytiri, has been released online this time via USA Today.

Check out the new image below -

The DVD Report November 17th 2009

You Ready For Some Trek? Or Some Fight Club, Or Hey How About Some Fight Trek...To Boldy Punch Where No One Has Punched Before.

Well buckle up because here we go.

The DVD Report 11/17/2009

Title - Star Trek
Rating: PG-13
Number Of Discs: Comes in everything from 1 to 3 disc packages.
Director: J.J. Abrams
Cast: Bruce Greenwood, Zoe Saldana, Leonard Nimoy, Simon Pegg, Karl Urban, Eric Bana, John Cho, Anton Yelchin, Zachary Quinto, Chris Pine

Synopsis: The future begins in J.J. Abrams' smash hit Star Trek, "a burst of pure filmmaking exhilaration and an irresistible invitation for fun." (Scott Mantz, Access Hollywood). When the Romulan Nero comes from the future to take revenge on the Federation, rivals Kirk and Spock must work together to stop him from destroying everything they know. On a thrilling journey filled with incredible action, the new recruits of the U.S.S. Enterprise will voyage through unimaginable danger in one of the biggest and most critically acclaimed movies of the year.

Special Features - *based on two disc and higher versions*
DVD-
- Nine Deleted Scenes: Featuring young Kirk and Spock, Klingons and more of the Green Girls
- Behind-The-Scenes Featurettes: A New Vision, To Boldly Go, Casting, Aliens, Score
- Gag Reel
- Filmmaker Commentary
- Star Trek D-A-C Free Game Trial
- Includes A Digital Copy For Mac and PC.

Blu-Ray-
30 Behind The Scenes Featurettes
9 Deleted Scenes
Gag Reel
Filmmaker Commentary
Star Trek D-A-C Free Game Trial
Blu-ray Exclusive Content
Includes Digital Copy Of Star Trek For Portable Media Players

Not So Mini-Review: JJ Abrams is one of those persona's in Hollyweird that always seem to have a grin and a trick up their sleeve. His Mission Impossible rocked, Lost is still awesome, and how many directors have the balls to make a new Star Trek movie with the original crew and toss most of the conventional trek lore to the wind, and better still to do it so well as to not piss off the Trekkers? Not many could have pulled it off let alone made it successful at the box office.

While I'm not the biggest fan of Star Trek you'll find, hell I'm probably not even in the top 10 in my zip code (live in a small town by the way) I do enjoy the shows and films, I love Shatner, and have been really enjoying those Enhanced Original Star Trek sets on Blu-Ray. That said I walked into JJ's new Trek expecting to enjoy it but not really expecting to be blow away. But that's exactly what happened, and for me to get caught off guard by a film is an amazing thing.

What's great about this is very simple; if you love Trek you'll enjoy this (some of you nitpickers might be at odds with this statement, but lets face it you nitpickers are miserable people anyway), if you just enjoy good sci fi and or adventure you'll enjoy this, even some of you rom-com people can find some things to love about this. You don't need to have any knowledge of Star Trek whatsoever to jump on board and have fun. The action is great, the story is cool, and that's all you need baby.

Buckle up and enjoy.

Title - The Best Of Star Trek: The Original Series - Volume 2
Rating: Not Rated
Number Of Discs: 1
Director: N/A
Cast: James Doohan , DeForest Kelley , Walter Koenig , Nichelle Nichols , Leonard Nimoy , Eddie Paskey , William Shatner , George Takei

Synopsis: The Star Trek excitement continues with four of the most popular episodes of all time. Enter a world of 1920's gangsters, meet Spock's father and encounter the legendary Khan for the first time as the original crew of the U.S.S. Enterprise fights to save the ship that started the phenomenon.

Special Features -
DVD-
Episodes -
Where No Man Has Gone Before
Warp speed goes wild when a Starfleet propulsion expert and his alien assistant come aboard the Enterprise to increase efficiency. The ship mysteriously rockets to an area previously unexplored by humans. Now in danger at the edge of the universe, the crew must uncover the link between space, time and travel if they hope to make it back alive.

Space Seed
Kirk discovers a ship carrying cryogenically frozen survivors of the 1990s Earth war known as the Eugenic Wars. When his life-support system dies, Khan, a warrior who ruled much of Earth, comes to life immediately, hatching a plan to rule mankind. Kirk and Khan now battle for control of the Enterprise and the entire human race.

A Piece Of The Action
Kirk, Spock and McCoy beam down to a planet run like 1920s gangster America. Mob boss Okmyx threatens them with death if they don't surrender their phasers. Kirk engages the mobsters in a card game called "Fizzbin" to stall, while Spock and McCoy plot an escape to the Enterprise that will result in Kirk's rescue... or his death.

Journey To Babel
The U.S.S. Enterprise is transporting a delegation of diplomas, including Spock's parents, to a conference on Babel when Kirk is stabbed, Spock's father suffers a heart attack and the Enterprise itself is attacked by a warship. It will take deception, medical intervention and pure force to will to save the ship... and the mission.

Blu-Ray-
N/A

Mini-Review: Enjoy the show but not a big enough fan to buy those awesome enhanced sets? Not to worry they've got you covered with these Star Trek Mix Tapes (aka Best of Volumes). Volume two gives us more of the same hand picked goodness to get your Trek on. This though we get Khaaaaaannn!!! And a trip to the Gangster planet (awesome!). It's a week for Star Trek and you've got three ways to boldly go.

Title - The Best Of Star Trek: The Next Generation - Volume 2
Rating: Not Rated
Number Of Discs: 1
Director: N/A
Cast: LeVar Burton , Michael Dorn , Jonathan Frakes , Gates McFadden , Marina Sirtis , Brent Spiner , Patrick Stewart , Wil Wheaton

Synopsis: The Best Of Star Trek The Next Generation continues on volume two. Four featured episodes selected from various seasons; Relics, The Inner Light, Cause and Effect, and Tapestry.

Special Features -
DVD-
Episodes -
Relics
The U.S.S. Enterprise crew is surprised to encounter the U.S.S. Jenolen, which crashed 75 years ago, on the surface of a tremendous gravitational force known as a Dyson Sphere. However, they are even more surprised to discover a survivor hidden in the ship's transporter: the legendary Captain Montgomery Scott has survived for three quarters of a century by keeping himself suspended in molecular limbo.

The Inner Light
An unsophisticated alien probe assumes a relative position, holding steady with the U.S.S. Enterprise, and releases a nucleonic particle stream that penetrates the ship's shields. Focusing solely on Picard, the beam knocks him unconscious. When he wakes up, Picard finds himself in unfamiliar surroundings, being cared for by an attractive woman. The woman, Eline, tells him his name is "Kamin," and he is her husband of three years. She also tells him that he has been sick and must be experiencing a memory loss. Picard soon learns that he lives on the planet Kataan, where he works as a simple iron weaver. His confusion is compounded when he notices that Eline wears an exact replica of the alien probe as jewelry.

Cause and Effect
The Enterprise-D is charting the Typhon Expanse, a previously unexplored region of space, until a distortion field suddenly fluctuates, the main propulsion systems collapse, and the Enterprise is thrown into red alert on a collision course with an older starship. Kelsey Grammer guest-stars.

Tapestry
Gravely injured in a Lenarian attack, Picard slips into a white, seamless limbo while Beverly struggles to save his life. There, he encounters Q, who informs Picard that he is dead, and this is the afterlife...and that Q himself is God! Picard refuses to believe that he is dead, let alone that Q is the supreme being. But Q is determined to prove otherwise. He produces the artificial heart that failed Picard and caused his death, which triggers Picard's sense of regret. With Q's urging, he admits that, given the opportunity to live life over, he would do things differently. Picard's wish is Q's command.

Blu-Ray-
N/A

Mini-Review: I think Wayne Campbell said it best when he said: "Ah yes, it's a lot like "Star Trek: The Next Generation". In many ways it's superior but will never be as recognized as the original.".

Sure I like the original Trek but I didn't fall in love with the franchise until TNG hit the airwaves...ok when it hit syndication. The show had kept most of the space cowboy feel of it but added a ton of extra layers that just made for a wonderfully enjoyable show.

Now they are getting the best of treatment while we wait for TNG in High Def (there is a complete series on DVD available but trust me grab this and wait). If I had to pick some of my favorite episodes I'm pretty sure the selections of both Volume one & two would nearly mirror my own, you've got your borg (vol 1) and some of the best written tales and guest appearances. Nice when they pay attention to the fans right?

Make it so..

Title - Fight Club [Blu-Ray]
Rating: R
Number Of Discs:
Director: David Fincher
Cast: Helena Bonham Carter, Brad Pitt, Edward Norton, Jared Leto, Meat Loaf

Synopsis: A lonely, isolated thirty-something young professional in an unidentified, semi-stylized city, seeks an escape from his ordinary life with the help of a devious soap salesman. They find their release from the prison of reality through underground fight clubs, where men can be what the world denies them.

Special Features -
DVD-
N/A

Blu-Ray-
New A Hit In The Ear: Ren Klyce and the Sound Design of Fight Club
Welcome To Fight Club
Angel Faces Beating
The Crash
Tyler's Goodbye
New Flogging Fight Club
New Insomniac Mode: I Am Jack's Search Index, Commentary Log, Topic Search
Behind the Scenes Vignettes: Production, Visual Effects, On Location
Edward Norton Interview
Commentary by David Fincher
Commentary by David Fincher, Brad Pitt, Edward Norton and Helena Bonham Carter
Commentary by Chuck Palahniuk and Jim Uhls
Commentary by Alex McDowell, Jeff Cronenweth, Michael Kaplan and Kevin Haug
Seven Deleted Scenes and Alternate Scenes
Trailer Farm - Theatrical Teaser, Theatrical Trailer, The Eight Rules of Fight Club
12 TV Spots
Public Service Announcements
Music Video
Five Internet Spots
Promotional Gallery
Art Gallery

Mini-Review: On my list of "10 Movies you'd take with you on a deserted island" (I'd make a Blu-Ray player, TV, and power source from coconuts..See Gilligans Island is educational) Fight Club has made the list from jump. Not only that it's one of those movies made from books that actually improved the source material (which is saying quite a bit).

For every generation there is a movie that defines each gender and Fight Club is certainly that for guys around my age. It's biting and cynical and brutally honest about how many of have felt or feel. Life isn't always sunshine and lollipops and it's a frustrating factoid to process. It took someone like Chuck Palahniuk to put it into words and someone like David Fincher to show it to us.

If you haven't seen it already, now's your chance to see it in the best possible format. If you have it's time to upgrade. This is what quality writing and filmmaking look and sound like.

Welcome to Fight Club.

*Special Things Await When You Pop This Baby In*

Title - Brüno
Rating: R
Number Of Discs:
Director: Larry Charles
Cast: Sacha Baron Cohen, Gustaf Hammarsten, Paula Abdul, Pete Rose, Latoya Jackson

Synopsis: Oscar® nominee and Golden Globe® winner Sacha Baron Cohen (Borat, Da Ali G Show and Talladega Nights) brings you the comedy that has started more conversations, generated more controversy and dared to go further than ever before!

As brüno travels the world in search of fame, everyone he encounters - celebrities, politicians, Hasidic Jews, terrorists and cage fighters - becomes a stepping-stone to stardom, with hilarious results!

So prepare yourself for nonstop laughs in the film Peter Travers of Rolling Stone says should be "Numero uno on your funny-time list!"

Special Features -
DVD-
Deleted, Alternate And Extended Scenes
An Interview with Lloyd Robinson

Blu-Ray-
Deleted, Alternate And Extended Scenes
An Interview with Lloyd Robinson
Enhanced VIDEO Commentary with Sacha Baron Cohen and Larry Charles
BD Live Features

Mini-Review: Think Borat was crazy? Then you haven't seen Bruno yet. While the set up is very similar to Borat (I.E: screw with people and show just what stupid comments can be pulled out of unsuspecting morons) Bruno is a whole other monster. Where Borat made people uncomfortable with his odd ways and ignorance of other cultures Bruno makes doesn't care if his naked sexuality freaks you out, to him everyone is playing on a lower level and should beg to catch up. Now where Borat had some moments you'd want to shield kids and people with delicate sensibilities Bruno has nothing but these moments it seems at times. Sacha is a mastermind of manipulation and disguise and there are times you'll wonder how he even got out of this movie alive.

If you love shock and awe, or raunchy and racy Bruno will work for you, if you hated Borat then avoid this one it wont change your opinion of Sacha or his character work.

Watching it at home does have one major downfall and that's the crowd reaction of seeing it in a theater, nothing quite divides an audience like one of these movies.

Title - My Sisters Keeper
Rating: PG-13
Number Of Discs: Standard DVD 1. Blu-Ray 2
Director: Nick Cassavetes
Cast: Cameron Diaz, Abigail Breslin, Joan Cusack, Sofia Vassilieva, Alec Baldwin, Jason Patric

Synopsis: What keeps a family together? Nick Cassavetes, the director of The Notebook, again demonstrates his sure hand with tales of deep human emotion in this inspiring film about a loving family challenged - and united - by a child's illness. Cameron Diaz, Abigail Breslin, Alec Baldwin and others in an exceptional cast bring sensitivity to the story of an 11-year-old girl, conceived to be a donor for her leukemia-stricken sister, and who finally demands the right to control her own body. This act of free will may tear the Fitzgeralds apart. Or, it may be the first step to a triumphant realization of devotion, dignity and what it means to be a family.

Special Features -
DVD-
- Over 15-Minutes of Powerful Additional Scenes.

Blu-Ray-
From Picolut To Screen
15 Minutes Of Powerful Additional Scenes
Includes Digital Copy Of My Sister's Keeper For Portable Media Players

Mini-Review: Get some tissues and get ready to leak profusely from your face. A very powerful film for me that makes it a very tough viewing but sometimes the tough ones are worth the effort. A great cast and wonderful filmmaking, yet I can't help wonder who would pop this on their IPod for on the go viewing..Am I wrong? That seems like an odd choice.

Another fine performance from Breslin that keeps her on that "ones to watch" list...at least until her and Fanning end up in a dueling death match for superior acting skills (it could happen).

If you like you films sad but powerful then this could be a fine choice for you this week, however if your tastes lean towards the Saw franchise then you might want to reconsider this at the video store (ya sicko).

Get gone and be blown away.

Title - Scrubs: The Complete Eighth Season [Blu-Ray]
Rating: Not Rated
Number Of Discs: 2
Director: N/A
Cast: John C. McGinley, Sarah Chalke, Judy Reyes, Zach Braff, Donald Faison, Neil Flynn

Synopsis: Enjoy every surreal moment of Scrubs' hilarious eighth season as television's celebrated sitcome delivers "much more loopy, creative humor that fans have come to know and love," raves Chicago Tribune. It's a different world for attending physicians J.D., Turk and Elliot as they have their own interns to confuse and bewilder, and a major shakeup in the hospital staff might be enough to finally unite Dr. Kelso and Dr. Cox. Get a big shot of comedy as your favorite characters, and some exciting guest stars (including Courteney Cox), return for a hilarious new year at Sacred Heart. The best way to enjoy the contagious comedy of the complere eighth season is on DVD, featuring exclusive bonus features -- including deleted scenes, bloopers and webisodes. It's just what the doctor ordered.

Special Features -
DVD-
*Previously Released*
Bloopers
Deleted Scenes
Alternate Lines
My Bahamas Vacation
Scrubs Intern Webisodes

Blu-Ray-
My Bahamas Trip
Deleted Scenes
Bloopers
Alternate Lines
Webisodes

Mini-Review: Say what you will but Scrubs is one of the funnier comedies around. There's a reason it's been on for eight seasons, two networks, and about a bazillion channels in syndication. Season eight was one of the stronger seasons despite being on the bubble and the network switcheroo.

While season nine may or may not be the end of the line (been said before), season eight certainly gave them plenty of jumping off points to get the ball rolling for a new season. Now you can go back and watch it all in High Def...Cougar Towns Courtney Cox in High Def. Heh heh.

Scrub up and jump in the waters fine.

Title - It's Always Sunny In Philadelphia: A Very Sunny Christmas
Rating: Not Rated
Number Of Discs: 1
Director: N/A
Cast: Danny DeVito, Kaitlin Olson, Rob McElhenney, Glenn Howerton, Charlie Day

Mini-Review: As of this writing my copy is on a UPS Truck (YAY!! But Dammit!!) so I can't comment on the actual DVD; however this is Always Sunny and it's a show that has never let me down for gnarly down right disgusting comedy so I can say without a doubt having these cats do a christmas special can only lead to something that will tickle my funny bone. If you've never seen this show I can't recommend it enough, mind you it's not for everyone but the people who wont like it aren't my kind of people.

That's all for this week kids...and remember YOU CAN'T UNREAD IT!

"Captain Nemo" Looking Dead In The Water

Disney's "Captain Nemo" might as well be sunk. Variety had the announcement earlier tonight:

The picture, tentatively scheduled to begin production in February, has been halted indefinitely, and McG is no longer steering the ship.

The studio confirmed that the studio won’t proceed with the film for now, and reps for the director confirmed he has withdrawn. McG will concentrate on other projects that include “Dead Spy Running,” a Warner Bros. drama that Stephen Gaghan is writing. McG is also attached to “Terminator 5,” though that movie is on hold indefinitely as the Terminator franchise works its way through bankruptcy court. McG just teamed with “Borat” helmer Larry Charles on a new NBC comedy.

McG, who last directed “Terminator Salvation,” had been attached to “Captain Nemo: 20,000 Leagues Under the Sea” since last January. The Bill Marsilli-scripted pic is an origin story about how Nemo constructed his warship, the Nautilus. The studio made the original 1954 “20,000 Leagues Under the Sea,” as Disney’s first live action film. It won three Oscars and inspired a Disney theme park ride.

While names like Will Smith were rumored as possible stars, no cast was ever set. The project had been on a fast track under the Dick Cook regime. Studio sez event pics like "20,000 Leagues," "John Carter of Mars" and "Tron" are still priority under new chief Rich Ross.

Disney’s next big water-based shoot will likely be the fourth installment of “Pirates of the Caribbean.” Pic is expected to set sail in May, with Rob Marshall in talks to direct.

I'd give my opinion but what's the point. Take on a Disney classic which could be bank...? Or continue a fizzled franchise...? From what I hear the Nemo origin script was awesome. Lets hope it actually gets made. Thats the scoop.

Korean pop megastar Rain stars as Raizo, a renegade assassin trained to kill by Lord Ozunu, the merciless leader of a secret society of ninjas. Lord Ozunu is played by veteran martial arts actor Sho Kosugi ("Revenge of the Ninja"), who starred in and choreographed numerous classic ninja films of the 1980s. Rick Yune ("Fast and the Furious" and "Die Another Day") stars as Raizo's rival, Takeshi, and Europol researcher Mika Coretti is played by Naomie Harris ("Pirates of the Caribbean" and "28 Days Later").

In Berlin, Europol agent Mika Coretti (Naomie Harris) has stumbled upon a money trail linking several political murders to an underground network of untraceable assassins from the Far East. Defying the orders of her superior, Ryan Maslow (Ben Miles), Mika digs into top secret agency files to learn the truth behind the murders. Her investigation makes her a target, and the Ozunu Clan sends a team of killers, led by the lethal Takeshi (Rick Yune), to silence her forever.
Welcome Holmes: 7-Eleven® Gets Clued in to Sherlock Holmes Online Experience

Today 7-Eleven stores nationwide launch their tie-in and support of the Sherlock Holmes movie, expected to be a huge holiday hit. 7-Eleven is clued into the experience through a subtle reference in an online Sherlock Holmes challenge and on its coffee-cup sleeves.

"I spy Sherlock Holmes." That's what 7-Eleven customers who visit stores or the retailer's website beginning Nov. 16 might be saying as the convenience retailer leaves not-so-vague clues about its end-of-year fresh foods and beverage deals.

Leading up to the Dec. 25 (Christmas Day) release of Warner Bros. Pictures' Sherlock Holmes, the characters from the film-Sherlock Holmes and Dr. John Watson (played by Robert Downey Jr. and Jude Law, respectively) will appear in 7-Eleven stores on everything from window banners to point-of-purchase (POP) signage at the grill, hot beverage bar, sales counter and fuel pumps to promote the movie and 7-Eleven products, such as Big Bite® Oscar Mayer all-beef hot dogs, Go-Go Taquitos, breakfast sandwiches and coffee.

As part of the movie's advance teaser campaign, an online, viral challenge invites amateur detectives to play as either of the main characters - Sherlock Holmes or Dr. John Watson. The experience can be found at www.221B.sh (which reflects Holmes' London address of 221B Baker Street).

7-Eleven coffee-drinkers who want to get hot on the trail of the challenge can get a head start with the co-branded "How Holmes Are You?" coffee cup sleeves. The sleeves contain a clue and web address, www.711.221B.sh, which connects consumers to a unique 7-Eleven 221B microsite. Players who successfully complete a fingerprint matching game will earn an exclusive clue to help them solve the mystery afoot within the main 221B experience.

The primary Sherlock Holmes online challenge reveals clues leading up to the movie's opening scene, and also gives a hint to the 7-Eleven promotional partnership with Warner Bros. Pictures. One of the pieces of evidence is a vintage newspaper that features a front page ad for "Joe C. Thompson's Coffee Emporium-Open from 7 a.m. to 11 p.m." In 1927, Joe C. Thompson Jr. founded The Southland Ice Company, the precursor to the 7-Eleven convenience-store chain.

"Sherlock Holmes has already garnered a significant amount of positive buzz and promises to be a hit this holiday season," said Rita Bargerhuff, 7-Eleven Vice President and Chief Marketing Officer. "While consumers are already seeing Warner Bros. Pictures' marketing campaign for the film, 7-Eleven customers will get a peek at the Holmes and Watson characters on in-store signage with clever phrases promoting value-oriented offerings, like quality fresh food and coffee."

Working with 7-Eleven on the campaign is its agency of record -- FreshWorks, a consortium of Omnicom advertising and marketing companies.

Tag lines like "Hunger Solved," "Killer Duo," "It's No Mystery," "Grab Our Killer Deal" and "Get a Clue" will promote two-for-$2 Big Bite hot dogs, 99-cent Go-Go Taquitos, new Sausage, Egg & Cheese Breakfast Sandwiches and discounts on coffee refills

Sony Online Entertainment Joins Forces With Mass Animation To Launch The DC Universe™ Online Animation Contest

Sony Online Entertainment and Mass Animation today announced the DC UniverseTM Online Animation Contest. The DCUO Animation Contest is version 2.0 of the acclaimed Mass Animation Facebook® application and will give DC Comics fans, gamers and animators a chance to animate heroes and villains from the DC Universe Online game currently in development by Sony Online Entertainment, and to collaborate in creating a CGI trailer and in-game character animations. The DCUO/Mass Animation contest is scheduled to launch on December 7, 2009.

"The DCUO/Mass Animation contest takes a part of the game out of the development studio and puts it in the hands of fans, an empowering opportunity for our community," said John Smedley, president of SOE. "Players will have a chance through qualified contest submissions to be involved with the game's development at a deeper level than ever before by animating actions for in-game heroes and villains."

All the tools that animators will need to collaborate on this project, including a special edition of Autodesk Maya 3D Animation software, storyboards, designs and fully-rigged 3-D models will be provided to contest entrants and accessed through the Mass Animation application on the DCUO Facebook fan page. Participating animators will upload their contest submissions back to the application for viewing, voting and sharing with their friends. New to the contest this year will be the Mass Animation iPhone app, which gives people a new way to view and vote on submissions. Qualified contest winners will receive cash or other prizes. Each week, voters and a panel of judges will help determine what shots qualify as the "best" and will be eligible for voter prizes.

"This new project really gives us the opportunity to expand Mass Animation into the online game sector, where gamers have already been creating in-game customized assets for some time," said Yair Landau, founder of Mass Animation. "In 2.0, we are opening the animation process to traditional animators as well as gamers and inviting artists to animate some of the coolest most classic characters on the planet such as Superman, Batman, The Joker and Wonder Woman. By opening up the contest to gamers and involving them in asset creation, there will be a real sense of connection to the game before it even launches."

Mass Animation's first collaborative animation project, Live Music, is scheduled for theatrical release on November 20th with "Planet 51." Inspired by Shakespeare's "Romeo and Juliet" and early CGI films, the story follows Riff, a rock 'n' roll guitar, falls in love to the wrong song but ends up with Vanessa, the classical violin of his dreams. A global story told through the universal language of music, the instruments are brought to life through original compositions and familiar rock tunes played principally by legendary guitarist Steve Vai as Riff and acclaimed violinist Ann Marie Calhoun as Vanessa. 51 animators from 17 different countries collaborated in the making of this unique and wonderful film which introduced Mass Animation to the world.

Interview: Robin Wright Penn is Living THE PRIVATE LIVES OF PIPPA LEE

In The Private Lives of Pippa Lee, Pippa Lee is a serene, beautiful, devoted wife and mother with a seemingly perfect life. She is a respected and admired woman, nearly 50 years old, who begins to question the life she's made for herself and, when her surprisingly volatile past crashes through her persona, she is forced to find her true sense of self.

The character of Pippa Lee is a rare opportunity for a gifted actor to play a female protagonist that is infused with a rare emotional complexity, and Robin Wright Penn was eager to take on the challenge. At the film's press day, the actress, who starred in such landmark films as The Princess Bride and Forrest Gump, talked about relating to such a complex character.

Q: What was your reaction to your character, when you read the script?

Robin: I couldn't put the script down. And then, once (writer/director) Rebecca Miller and I met, of course I was like, "I'd give my left arm to play this role." She said, "Well, do you think we're going to have to do prosthetic make-up?" and I said, "It's so not about the cliche. Older is a number. It's about the chemistry between Pippa and Herb."

Pippa could really be any age, and that's what we wanted to have translated, when she is 20, 30, 40 and even when she's 50. She still has all of the youth, experience, innocence and self-destruction, and the lies and secrets, even at 50. She wasn't realized and then, all of a sudden, life took over for her and became a realization for herself, more than her choosing.

Q: Can you relate to Pippa and what she goes through?

Robin: I think male and female can relate. I don't think it's gender-based. We all go through an evolution in our life. We all change. Circumstances change us and, when your kids get older, you become a different mother to them. Being married changes you. You are a product of your experiences in life, and that's exactly what this movie is about. It's just that those experiences finally start to erode the facade that she can't live behind anymore.

Q: What was it about this character and the themes in this film that resonated with you the most?

Robin: Oh, I don't know, just being a woman. I think everybody lives it. I didn't have such a destructive youth or abusive past. Everybody really thinks, "Oh, it's autobiographical. It's what you went through. Were you Pippa? Was that your mother?" You can draw from the exploration of those experiences. You can go, "Oh, yeah, there are little vignettes here that, of course, we can dabble in, but it's not necessarily a parallel." I think it's pretty broad being a chick. We all go through that awakening and self-reflection.

Q: There are so many different facets to this character. As an actor, was there one particular aspect of Pippa's character that was most fulfilling to perform?
Robin: To be able to play layers without using dialogue or exposition to execute what that layer is and how it resonates within the movie and the storytelling. To be able to hold that underneath is so enriching. The more you have to hide, the more work you have to do. But, I also find it much more rewarding, as a viewer, to watch something like that because, with Rebecca's work, it unfolds after you've asked the question, "Why did she . . .?" As an audience member you're like, "What the hell? Why would she be sleepwalking and devouring food." And then, you find out why, three scenes later, when the past is starting to be revealed. It's the peeling of the onion. It's the unveiling of the truth of what really went on. So, you start to see the diary that she's been living.

Q: Since you and Blake Lively were playing the same character at different ages, what specifically did you pick up from Blake for your performance?

Robin: She has one thing that she did. I didn't know her. We'd met for literally two seconds, on camera test day. I was rushing off to a flight getting back to California and Rebecca said, "Just go watch her and pick something that she does because you guys truly don't look alike." She's like 6'7". She's so tall and beautiful, with this voluptuous body, and I was like, "Okay, those two things are not connecting here, so there's got to be something that I can emulate that would make it believable that she was me and I was her."

She's such a Bambi. She's such a pure innocent. Every time she would answer Rebecca, she would go, "What?" and lift her brow, and it was like a baby discovering every essence of life that was coming her way. It was new discovery. Anytime anybody would say anything, she would just be like "Yeah? Really? Okay." I just wanted Pippa, no matter what her age and everything she'd been through, to keep that innocence and newness, and yet you see that she's been there, she's done it all, she's fucked every man, she's taken every drug and she's been abused by her mother, who's an alcoholic and a drug addict. I still wanted everything to be new and fresh, coming her way.

Q: What was the experience of working with Alan Arkin like?

Robin: He's so calming to be around. You feel very safe with him, as an actor. He's got a wealth of information. He's very well read and has been in this business for quite a while. He just has life experience and a calm foundation. You know you can fail. You want that kind of safety net with another actor, when you're in scenes. You want to know, "We're going to pick each other up, if we fall, right? We're going to have each other's back?" And, when you have that unspoken knowingness between each other, there's an instant chemistry and a code speak that you have, and I felt like we had that from the get-go.

Everybody was so concerned that the age difference wasn't going to be believable. I totally believed we could've been married. You get into a rhythm of trust that you have to have. It's very rare because usually you walk onto a set and it's, "Hey, nice to meet you. That's great. So, take your clothes off. You guys are making love in this scene." That's usually what it feels like. You're having to expose yourself and be intimate with somebody you don't know. We got to know each other. And, Rebecca and I really got to know each other. We got to know the movie and the story for a year before we shot, which is a rarity.

Q: Was that more just open discussions, or was it rehearsal period?

Robin: It was more just talk, and picking her brain and reading her novel. We had a Bible.

Q: What did you guys discuss on set?

Robin: Oh, my God, everything, ad nauseam. Everything you could possibly dissect and analyze. There were a lot of things you wanted answered and a lot of questions you didn't want answered, for the character. Rebecca actually owns all of those characters in that movie. She wrote it years ago, and this novel was her baby. So, we were like her disciples, in a way, just executing her vision.

Q: How was it working with Keanu Reeves?

Robin: Great. He's a great person. He's so sweet and so available. We had to beg him to do this part. He wouldn't do it. He really didn't think he was right for it, and he's perfect for the part. He's just removed enough. You wanted to question "Who is this weirdo? Are you perverted?" But, underneath the weirdo exterior is such a genuine, loving, understanding man. And, that's exactly who Chris needed to be for Pippa to come out of her shell. So, it was great working with him. He's a gem, and a decent man.

THE PRIVATE LIVES OF PIPPA LEE opens on November 27th

Yet New Moon tickets continue to be available. To meet the fan demand, the nation's top theater owners are regularly posting brand new showtimes on additional screens.

"For many fans, it's clearly the year's most anticipated film event," says Fandango Chief Operating Officer Rick Butler. "Ever since tickets went on sale on August 31, it's been among our top five weekly ticket-sellers, as New Moon has a strong pull on audiences. We're seeing a higher-than-usual number of tickets per transaction for this film, suggesting that moviegoers will show up en masse at theaters this weekend with their friends and family."

Here are some fun facts from a recent Fandango survey of more than 2,000 New Moon ticket-buyers:

98% say the action in New Moon looks better than the action in Twilight.

72% plan to see the movie with a group of three friends or more.

52% of survey respondents say they dream about vampires.

22% are mothers and daughters planning to see New Moon together.

10% plan to show up at the theater in costume, dressed as characters from the saga.

Fandango is also offering exclusive limited edition New Moon gift cards (featuring images of Edward & Bella, Jacob & The Wolf Pack and other characters), redeemable for any movie on www.fandango.com.
Interview: Blake Lively Talks about THE PRIVATE LIVES OF PIPPA LEE

In The Private Lives of Pippa Lee, actress Blake Lively plays the teenage Pippa, who later grows into the portrayal that Robin Wright Penn delivers. The Gossip Girl star says that she had to audition for the role to prove that she could handle the difficult, complex character, but she knew a few minutes later that she had the role.

At the film's press day, Blake Lively talked about balancing her hectic Gossip Girl schedule with films like The Private Lives of Pippa Lee and The Town, directed by Ben Affleck, which she is currently working on.

Q: Did you have to audition for this film?

Blake: Yes. I had a few audition scenes, but the most memorable was the one where I take my mother's bottle of Dexedrine and freak out. I'm dancing around, cracked out of my mind on speed, and screaming at my mother while she's screaming at me, and we were pushing each other. That was a challenge to do in a 4 foot by 4 foot room, in front of Rebecca Miller, and this woman that I had never met before, reading the scene. It was supposed to be my mother and, not knowing what boundaries were there or weren't, made it difficult.

I did the few scenes, I finished with that one, and I was so nervous and intimidated, but I knew I just had to just let go and do it. And then, Rebecca said, "Just stay here for a minute." She walked out of the room, came back two minutes later and said, "You're my Pippa. I'm not making this movie with anyone else." So, she gave me the job, on the spot. I would have been freaking out for a few days, if she wouldn't have, so I was very lucky.

Q: Knowing that you were playing the same character as Robin Wright Penn, did you observe each other and pick up anything, in particular, that you wanted to add to your performance, such as any mannerisms or facial expressions?

Blake: It wasn't as much about the mannerisms. There were things that Robin and I talked about, just like nervous tics, because it was interesting for us. The last thing Pippa wanted to do was be like her mother. She wanted to run away from her mother. Her mother was such a terrible thing for her, that she had to get away from it, yet she starts to repeat that same cycle of self-abuse. That's a very interesting thing that people do.

And so, we added just biting on the side of the nails and a few other certain nervous tics, but for me, the most important thing was watching Robin and just seeing who she was, at her core. It was nothing that could be described. It was just an essence. So much of Pippa is a mystery. She is an enigma. And so, just watching and seeing the feeling you get from her, and trying to recreate that, was the most difficult. It's hard to articulate because it's just a feeling.

Q: How was it to work with Alan Arkin as your love interest? What that weird at all?

Blake: Yeah, it seems like it would be weird and, when I read it on the page, I thought, "Oh, no, this could be very awkward and uncomfortable." But, once I thought about it more, and once I was talking to Rebecca about it, or in the scenes with Alan, you realize that Pippa isn't looking for a sexual partner. It's not lust that attracts her to him. It's that she doesn't have a parent. It's him fulfilling that hole of a parent. He's the first person that guides her, and that provides her security and comfort, so that's what their relationship was about.

We weren't busy trying to fabricate sexual chemistry. We were just trying to create an honest relationship between two people. Between scenes, he would write notes and write down books I should read or movies I should see. I was trying to feed him my sundae and was like, "C'mon, it's whipped cream. It will make you happy, before we shoot." I didn't realize Rebecca was outside shooting that, and that's the scene where we are sitting in the diner. She ended up just filming our interaction with one another, which was a very innocent interaction.

I think that that was the important thing because it would have made it really uncomfortable, if you saw them in the heat of passion with one another. You see me lying half-naked in his arms, but you see that he's protecting her and he's holding her, and it's safety. You don't ever see us kiss once, in this movie, because that wasn't what was important about their relationship, and what attracted Pippa to him.

Q: Was that bed scene uncomfortable for you?

Blake: Well, I think it's uncomfortable, laying in strategically placed clothes that are taped on your body, in front of some strangers. That's always uncomfortable. But, I was with Alan and Rebecca, and our wonderful D.P., and it was a very private set. We're all actors, we're all professionals and we all understood what was happening. Everybody is uncomfortable with those scenes. You're never going to be comfortable being half-naked in front of anyone. But, it was fine. It was a short scene. For me, it's more uncomfortable to watch it. It's like, "Oh, no, all these people are seeing me like this!"

Q: How was the directing process with Rebecca Miller?

Blake: It was really amazing because I didn't get to work with Robin, to sit down and develop the character together. I didn't get to read the book beforehand because the book wasn't even out, so Rebecca was just my well of knowledge. She was Pippa, in so many ways, because she created Pippa and she had been living with Pippa for years, from developing her and writing this beautiful novel, to writing the script, to directing the script and developing the character with Robin. She had created this woman, but she also was a strong, powerful woman herself, who could be so vulnerable, but also be so strong, and who you could see that there was a certain edge or darkness, yet is also so light and bright. And so, to see a woman around you that is herself so complex and so interesting, and to be portraying that, was also very helpful.

In a lot of ways, she was a muse, even though Pippa was her muse, or we became hers, at the point of making this. So, it was a wonderful process and we just had to trust her with everything that we had. I got to watch some of Robin's dailies and she got to watch some of mine, but it was really up to Rebecca to make sure that the same person at the core shone through in my performance and Robin's. We just had to trust that whatever we were doing was consistent, in one another. She didn't tell me too much. She said, "Robin is copying something that you do," but she didn't tell me what it was. And, I said, "Well, what is it? What do I do?" It made me feel weird. And, she said, "Don't worry about it. I don't want you to be aware of it. But, if you stop doing it, or if you just did it for that audition and it's something that you don't do normally, then I'll let you know ‘cause we want it to be consistent. But, don't worry about it." And, she never told me what it was. I watched the movie and figured it out then.

Q: You talked about Pippa being such a multi-faceted character. Was there an aspect of her that was more fun to perform, as an actor?

Blake: All of it was fun. It was fun to scream and cry and push my mother. It was fun to crawl around in lederhosen and have Julianne Moore ask me to meow and spank me, as odd as that seems. Here I was thinking, "I finally have the most respectable job of my life, and I'm getting spanked and being asked to meow." It was a little bit of an oxymoron.

But, just getting to sit in scenes and chat with Alan, or have a simple conversation that is so insightful to who these people are, was also just as interesting. I had so many different things to do in this film, and such a nice time frame to build this character. I got to play her, over the course of a decade, so there wasn't one more part that was more fun than the other. It kept each part exciting because they were all so different. I was given such great material. It's so rare to get material like this, and I'm so thankful for it.

Q: Because you get to play Pippa in all these different decades, what did you like about exploring the ‘70's and ‘80's?

Blake: I loved the look. For me, I really feel like a character when I look like them, so it was just about being a young Pippa and having the long straight hair and no make-up and feeling pure and innocent, compared to older Pippa with the crimped hair and all the make-up and hiding behind this mask of this character. I love fashion, so to wear different clothes and different looks was fun.

Q: What's the experience been like, to balance shooting Gossip Girl with doing The Town this season, and getting to play two characters?

Blake: It's been a challenge just because of the hours. I'm working on The Town on my weekends and holidays, flying to Boston overnight and then shooting the next morning. But also, when you are on a TV show, a character can get stale, so getting to also portray another character simultaneously, and come back to this character, it makes the character of Gossip Girl fresher.

It also is very exciting to get away from it and to play another role. And, just anytime that I get to do a film, I'm so thrilled because I love watching movies, I love making movies and the movies that I've made, I've been very proud to be a part of.

Q: Can you talk a little bit about your character?

Blake: My character was originally 37, but when they cast me, we had to write it down to 29. I fought for this role. She's a 29-year-old drug-dealing townie from Boston, who's on welfare and has a two-year-old child. So, it's very different.

Q: How has Ben Affleck been to work with, as a director?

Blake: This is his baby project, and he's done a lot of the rewrites, and he's directed it and starred in it. It's been just a wonderful experience.

From A&E Home Entertainment comes, Farscape: The Complete Series Megaset. A groundbreaking cult classic was born with the epic, adventure-filled TV series "Farscape". On November 17, the award-winning fan favorite show, which ran from 1999-2003 on Sci Fi and was named by TV Guide as one of television's best cult shows ever, will commemorate its 10th Anniversary with the very first complete packaging of the series. An imaginative fusion of live action, state-of-the-art puppetry, prosthetics and CGI, "Farscape," produced by The Jim Henson Company in association with RHI Entertainment, featured mind-boggling alien life forms, dazzling special effects, edge-of-your-seat thrills, irreverent humor and unforgettable characters all brought to rich life by the creative minds at Jim Henson's Creature Shop™. Farscape: The Complete Series Megaset delivers the venerated program to its legions of loyal fans and a new generation

When a freak accident during an experimental space mission catapulted Astronaut John Crichton (Ben Browder) across a thousand galaxies to an alien battlefield, strap in and hold on tight for the extraordinary adventures as he finds himself surrounded by hostile aliens and soaring through the cosmos aboard Moya, a glorious living space ship. Hunted by the relentless Peacekeepers, he allies himself with Moya's crew - Aeryn Sun (Claudia Black), Luxan warrior Ka D'Argo (Anthony Simcoe), azure priestess Zhaan (Virginia Hey), spritely Nebari thief Chiana (Gigi Edgley), Dominar Rygel, the deposed royal ruler of the Hynerian Empire and Pilot - to search for a way out of this inconceivably alien world and return home.

The Verdict: Needless to say that this is a classic and a must have. Who knows if and when this will ever be released on DVD again especially all at once. Not to mention the massive amount of features, featurettes, documentaries, deleted scenes, photo galleries, behind the scene interviews, and original tv promos... yeah there's a lot packed in here. The series will be available Nov. 17 for of $149.95 SRP and as usual should be at local and online retailers for less.

Each re-packaged DVD release in Farscape: The Complete Seasons 1-4 will feature over 18 hours of interstellar entertainment - 22 episodes on six jam-packed discs filled with hours of revealing bonus materials - for $44.95 SRP.

"I gave him like a traditional African name... O.J." Bruno Blu-Ray/DVD Review

The inimitable prankster Sacha Baron Cohen (Borat: Cultural Learnings of America for Make Benefit Glorious Nation of Kazakhstan) launches another inspired comedy offensive in the boisterous Bruno, coming to Blu-Ray and DVD on November 17, 2009 from Universal Studios. As in the hugely popular Borat, Sacha Baron Cohen once again creates improvised pandemonium, this time as an Austrian TV host searching for fame and fortune in America, ensnaring everyone he meets in hilariously unpredictable, unscripted and unsuspecting ways.

Sacha Baron Cohen (the creator and star of Borat) returns to the big screen in the hilarious adventures of Austria's favorite fashionista, Bruno. In this gleefully anarchic mockumentary, the flamboyant television host loses his homeland talk show, "Funkyzeit," and does what any self-respecting wannabe would do -- he moves to Hollywood to pursue worldwide super-stardom. From worlds of fashion and entertainment to the military, Bruno puts his worst foot forward as Baron Cohen fearlessly tramples the boundaries of good taste in ways that confound celebrities and just plain folks alike. Fans of Baron Cohen's gonzo comedy can look forward to an hour's worth of hysterical scenes not shown in theaters on both the DVD and Blu-ray versions.

The Verdict: As much as I thought Borat was crude, rude and an overall waste, Bruno is absolutely hilarious. Yeah there are times that somethings make you cringe a little and maybe make you feel sorry for some of the poor unsuspecting targets of the pranks, but overall very funny. With many somewhat surprising celebrity cameos this is sure to entertain. As much as I would love to spoil the movie you'll have see who makes an appearance for yourself. I will say that a certain banned former baseball player, a few musicians and a certain member of the Jackson family make an appearances. Packed with over an hour of deleted scenes and color commentary including an interview with Bruno's "real" agent, not to mention the high def clarity of Blu-ray this is worth adding to your collection. Bruno will be available on Blu-Ray and DVD at $39.98 SRP and $29.98 SRP and as usual you can get either for much less online or at your local retailer.

Fox Says No Go on ID4 Sequels

There has been plenty of ID4 sequel news hitting the web as of late. While in Wyoming, IESB tipped off LatinoReview to ask Roland Emmerich about a possible sequel to the mega blockbuster.

Our readers will remember that about a year ago we had a sit down with Tom Rothman, Co-Chairman of 20th Century Fox who told the IESB that at one time there was talk about doing a sequel but that Roland Emmerich decided against it.

That doesn't jive with what Roland told Latinoreview a few weeks ago that he has discussed a sequel but that Fox doesn't want to pay Will Smith gross points on the film so that the film has stalled.

MTV chatted with Roland and followed up on the news that LR reported and Emmerich elaborated that he would like to do two sequels and even hinted at the title ID4 Ever.

A few days ago, IESB was given a tip that there was some possible movement on a sequel with a new screenwriter, when IESB spoke to various Fox reps to confirm the name of screenwriter we were told point blank, there are no sequels to ID4 in development.

So while Roland might have a couple of ideas for a sequel to a film that reached $817,400,891 in worldwide box office receipts plus DVD sales (its hovering the billion dollar mark in total sales including TV rights and DVD sales), 20th Century Fox has not even moved into the idea phase for the sequel.

Note to the studio: You have been looking for a sci-fi franchise for years in the vein of Star Wars. The Alien Vs. Predator films were a disaster. You are letting the director of Spy Kids handle the Predators reboot (bad idea), you have Ridley Scott toying with the idea of bring Aliens back to the big screen. Roland and Will Smith are willing and ready to do a sequel to franchise that you control, what are you waiting for?

With that, I leave you with the best speech ever given on the big screen.

Good morning.
In less than an hour, aircraft from here will join others from around the world.
You will be launching the largest aerial battle in the history of mankind.
'Mankind,' that word should have a new meaning for all of us today.
We can't be consumed by our petty differences anymore.
We will be united in our common interest.

Perhaps it's fate that today is the Fourth of July and you will once again be fighting for our freedom.
Not from tyranny, oppression, or persecution, but from annihilation.

We're fighting for our right to live...to exist.
And should we win the day,
the Fourth of July will no longer be known as an American holiday,
but as the day when the world declared in one voice
we will not go quietly into the night,
we will not vanish without a fight,
we're going to live on,
we're going to survive ...

Today, we celebrate our Independence Day!

Production Begins in Portland, Oregon on Untitled Gus Van Sant Project

Lensing has begun on location in Portland, Oregon on an untitled project from two-time Academy Award®-nominated director Gus Van Sant, starring Mia Wasikowska and Henry Hopper. The film's screenplay was written by first-timer Jason Lew, based upon his original stage play "Of Winter and Water Birds." The film is produced by Imagine Entertainment's Brian Grazer and Ron Howard, and Bryce Dallas Howard and Gus Van Sant. The supporting cast includes Ryo Kase, Schuyler Fisk, and Jane Adams.

From Imagine Entertainment comes a powerful and emotional coming of age story, a remarkable film told with honesty and originality that will leave audiences moved. In the film, two outsiders, both shaped by the circumstances that have brought them together, forge a deep and lasting love. Directed by Gus Van Sant, one of the most astute observers of people living life on the edge, comes a take on friendship and young love as engaging and true as it is provocative and stirring. The screenplay is by Jason Lew.

Bryce Dallas Howard, a producer of the film, said, "This film is a quietly epic coming of age story. It captures the profoundly defining turning point of a young person's life with stark realism, irreverent humor, and intense emotion. I think that Gus was drawn to this story because he has an uncanny ability to convey the complexities of youth and outsiders. For this is, above all else, the journey of an outsider."

Van Sant has once again surrounded himself with some of the top talent in the business. Longtime collaborator Harris Savides (Milk) is the director of photography. Anne Ross (Lost in Translation) is the production designer on the film and Academy Award® nominees Elliot Graham (Milk) and Danny Glicker (Milk) have joined the film as editor and the costume designer respectively.

Audiences and critics alike have taken note of GUS VAN SANT's movies since he made his feature film directorial debut in 1985 with Mala Noche, which won the Los Angeles Film Critics Association award for Best Independent/Experimental Film.

Van Sant has twice been nominated by the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences for the Oscar® for Best Director: for his work on Good Will Hunting, which received nine total nominations and won for Best Original Screenplay, and for his most recent film, Milk, which received eight total nominations and won for Best Actor and Best Original Screenplay.

PARAMOUNT PICTURES’ PARANORMAL ACTIVITY SOARS PAST THE $100 MILLION MARK

The hit $15,000 thriller PARANORMAL ACTIVITY has grown from its midnight-only showings in a handful of college towns to become this year's biggest movie phenomenon, and will cross $100 million at the box office after only five weekends of national release as of Friday. In so doing, the movie has become the top grossing R-Rated thriller of the past decade.

PARANORMAL ACTIVITY began its theatrical life with midnight-only screenings in 12 college towns across the U.S. and quickly developed into a national wide hit, with fans visiting the ParanormalMovie.com website and demanded the film be brought to their city. After more than 1 million such requests, Paramount expanded the film nationally where it has been playing to packed theaters ever since.

"What is truly amazing about PARANORMAL ACTIVITY is the depth of commitment from fans who demanded to see it," said Paramount Pictures Chairman and Chief Executive Officer Brad Grey. "Adam Goodman, our head of production, believed in the film and championed it from the very first screening. This box-office milestone is also a testament to Oren Peli's considerable talents as a filmmaker. All of us at Paramount are proud to have been involved with his revolutionary project."

In PARANORMAL ACTIVITY, after a young, middle class couple moves into what seems like a typical suburban "starter" tract house, they become increasingly disturbed by a presence that may or may not be demonic, but is certainly most active in the middle of the night.

Especially when they sleep. Or try to.

Directed, written and produced by Oren Peli, the innovative thriller stars Katie Featherston and Micah Sloat. The film was produced by Jason Blum. Steven Schneider served as executive producer.

The Fourth Kind's Viral Marketing Lands Uni in Trouble

Fake Encounters of the Fourth Kind is what the Alaska Press Club accused Universal of doing when the studio created a series of fake news articles to publicize the movie about a alleged alien abductions in Nome. The articles posted on the internet appeared to be from real Alaskan publications.

The articles consisted of a fake obituary of one of the film's characters and other related alien/UFO sightings.

Thanks to an Anchorage lawyer John McKay Universal has settled and agreed to pay $20,000 to seven Alaska based news organizations. No not $20,000 each, but a measly $2,857 dollars per outlet. Note to Alaska residents and businesses, never hire such an incompetent lawyer to represent you or your company. Universal would've easily paid a six figure settlement. Mr. McKay, you dropped the ball.

Oh yeah, the settlement also requires Universal to remove the fake news articles from the Internet.

Myself being an alien aficionado and someone who lived in Alaska for over four years loved the concept of the film but on a side note to the filmmakers, if you are going to make a movie about alien abductions, you need to at least show an alien...just a thought.

Exclusive Interview: Michelle Borth is one of THE FORGOTTEN

On the ABC television series The Forgotten, the latest crime drama from Jerry Bruckheimer, actress Michelle Borth plays Candace Butler. Spending her days at an office job that she hates, Candace focuses her attention on volunteering with The Forgotten Network, a group of men and women who solve murder mysteries and give names to Jane and John Does after the police have given up.

Last seen on the controversial HBO series Tell Me You Love Me, which followed the lives of three couples in various stages of their relationships, the film and television star spoke to IESB in this exclusive interview about how she found her love of acting and what it's been like working with this ensemble, including Christian Slater, on The Forgotten.

IESB: When and how did you decide you wanted to be an actor?

Michelle: I was not one of those kids who grew up wanting to be an actress, at all. I wanted to be Nadia Comaneci. I wanted to be an Olympic gymnast. And, certain events led me to a certain place in my life, in which I ended up having to go to a camp, where we worked with counselors and did all these exercises. I just found an outlet that wasn't illegal or harmful to other people.

I wasn't doing drugs or breaking the law, or anything. I just needed an outlet, and that's how I found it. I was 17 when I went to this camp and I worked with great counselors. That's how I fell into it. I found something that allowed me to get my anger out and express myself, in a safe environment. I liked it.

IESB: Was there something that made you realize you wanted to do it, for a career?

Michelle: No. After I had that experience, I decided to go to college and I was like, "I'm going to study theater." I was bar-tending and doing theater, and was literally a starving actress. It was not glamorous at all. It sucked. So, I just decided to give myself three years. I saved up a bunch of money, just from bar-tending and I moved out to L.A. I didn't know. I was like, "I'm gonna try. I have to try." I had just spent all this money getting a BFA, which does nothing for me, in real life, so I had to try. If it didn't work out, I'd go back to New York. But, I went out to L.A. and I got lucky. It's talent and luck. I just took the right steps and it snowballed.

IESB: How did you originally get involved with The Forgotten? Was it just through the pilot auditioning process, or had they specifically asked to see you?

Michelle: It was the way it usually goes. I auditioned for a ton of pilots. We had a great pilot season last year, and I tested for a few. This was one that I had a great audition for, and I got it. It was the normal route. It wasn't offered to me, or anything.

IESB: What made you decide to do what could be a long-term television series? Did you have any hesitation about signing a contract to play the same character for what could be multiple seasons, or did the Jerry Bruckheimer name make it an easier decision?

Michelle: Yeah, of course, there was hesitation because, being a female, I have a shelf life. I'm realistic about it. I was like, "How long am I going to be tied into this?" I had an experience with HBO (on Tell Me You Love Me), where they fucked up my 20's, so I was a little hesitant. But, it's Jerry Bruckheimer and his track record is impeccable. I was like "If I was going to sign a contract for a TV show, it will be with Jerry Bruckheimer.

IESB: For those who may not have seen the show yet, can you explain what it's about and who you play on it?

Michelle: We're a group of amateur volunteers. We're sort of like gumshoe detectives. We volunteer our time to solve Jane and John Doe cases, which are unidentified people, that go cold because the police hit a dead-end. We're regular people. We're not professionals. We're not forensic scientists, lawyers or doctors. We all have day jobs. Everyone's got a specific reason why we're there.

I play Candace Butler. She's the sassy, quirky, confident woman. She sells insurance by day, and is really dedicated to this group. We have not revealed yet why she's there. Everyone else has a pretty clear-cut reason of why they're there. We're unraveling it to keep audiences engaged, so I can't talk about it. But, I can say that she's really dedicated to this group.

IESB: What was it that initially attracted you to this show and this character?

Personally, I love mysteries. I watch True TV, when I can and I have time. I watched Murder, She Wrote, when growing up, and I read Encyclopedia Brown. For me, the character was really cool and similar to me, and I just love solving puzzles. Our show is very fun for an audience to watch and go along with us because we're not professionals. Because we're everyday people, you can get engaged with us. It's cool.

IESB: How much were you told about your character up front, and how much have you been learning as you go along?

Michelle: It's been an interesting experience, creatively. I did have a chance to sit with the writers and we made a blueprint. I threw in my ideas and they threw in their ideas, and we came up with this collective idea of why she's doing this and where she's coming from. It hasn't come completely through yet, in the episodes, so a lot of it is just me making it up to do the scenes, every day. They slowly unravel little pieces of her personality in there, which has been good, but it's hard. There's a lot to do because we have to identify someone, we have to solve a case, we have backstory. It's a lot to fit in, in 43 minutes. It's a slow unravel for all of us.

IESB: Are you the type of actor that likes to give input into character development, or do you just trust in the writers?

Michelle: I like to have as much input as possible. I think it benefits everybody, if we're all on the same page. I was really grateful to have that meeting. I was surprised that they were even interested at all in what I had to say. It was a privilege to sit in the room with a group of really accomplished writers and give my input. If I can, and given the circumstances, I would always put my input in. There are times when we get a script and it just is what it is and we have to roll with it. I'm fine with it, either way, but I think it just makes it more natural and easier, if the writing caters to how we're feeling.

IESB: Since you were a starving actor, and your character works at a day job that she hates, were you able to identify with that aspect of Candace?

Michelle: That was one of the main things for me. I'm sure everyone can identify with having a job that they're not happy with, and trying to find something that's fulfilling to you, whether it's a hobby, friends or whatever, because, unfortunately, what you do every day to pay the bills isn't fulfilling. I could very much identify with that. That was my life in New York. There was only so long I could serve beer before I was just going to go out of my mind. I've never had an office job, but the idea of just being in a place, eight hours a day, that doesn't do anything to stimulate you, was something that I could identify with. I think I lot of people can.

IESB: What's it been like to work with Christian Slater? Has he been anything at all like you expected he would be?

Michelle: What I really want to say, and it would be so much more exciting, is "Yeah, he's a total douchebag. Everything that you read about him is true." But, he's the complete opposite of everything you've read about him. He was a big teen idol of mine, I'm not gonna lie. I've been really honest about it. I had a poster of him on my wall.

I was terrified because I just didn't know if I was going to turn into a bumbling idiot and be all retarded. And, he's totally this really humble, shy, introverted guy. He's nothing like what his persona is. I know that he's gone through a lot and his kids have changed him, so I don't know that Christian Slater that people talk about. But, the Christian Slater we work with has no chip on his shoulder, he's a team player, he's really humble, he's really generous, he's funny and he likes to see how far he can go to ruin our coverage and see if he can make us laugh. He's just a really cool guy, but he's not crazy. He's totally normal, and that's what was weird to me. He's down-to-earth and really chill.

I'm a big fan. I like him a lot. I like working with him, and I think he's a fantastic actor, but he treats us really equal. I've been in situations where that's not always the case, so it was really nice and refreshing, and I was happy that that was the case because he hangs out with us. He's just one of us. And, even in the way he talks about the show, he says, "It's not the Christian Slater Show. It's a group effort." I really admire him.

IESB: How has this ensemble of actors been to work with? Did your chemistry just come really naturally?

Michelle: Honestly, it came really naturally. We shot the pilot with two different actors, but me, Anthony [Carrigan] and Bob [Stephenson] hit it off, right from the pilot, so we continued to hang out, regardless of whether or not the show got picked up. We had just really become good friends. And then, when the show got picked up, we were already friends. And then, Heather [Stephens] and Christian [Slater] came on, and it just gelled. You'd think we were shooting a comedy, behind the scenes. If there was a camera behind the scenes, you'd think we were shooting a sitcom.

We have a blast. We really do. It's heavy material, so in order for us to have fun doing it, we joke around a lot. We take it seriously when we need to, but we have a lot of fun. It's hard to get all the character stuff in with all the other information we have to get in, to make the show work, and they put in a good balance of actors. The scenes where we're in Lindsay's (Heather Stephens) house are sometimes my favorite. They're killer because they're 15-hour days and we're in one room and we go stir crazy, and I go bat-shit, but that's when we really gel. They roll the cameras right after we've been joking around and it just bleeds into it. The characters are there and our comradery is there, and it just works. To me, it feels really real, and I hope that comes across.

IESB: With the episodes that are a little bit darker, is it hard for you to shake that off, or can you just leave that on the set when you go home?

Michelle: With the last series I worked on, Tell Me You Love Me, I had that problem. I had a really hard time shutting off work, when I'd go home. It was something that I really worked on. I didn't want to have that experience again because I was miserable. I couldn't let it go. So, with this, I just try to find the positive. It is hard because we're dealing with death. There is a dead body in every episode, and we're dealing and connecting with the family, but it's also a feel-good show. We're giving closure to a lot of the families and loved ones of these unidentified people, so I walk away with that. As a volunteer, you feel like you did a good deed, and that's what I take home with me now.

IESB: Because this show is an ensemble, you don't always get to work individually with each of the actors. Is there anyone on that you haven't gotten to work with too much yet, that you'd like to have more scenes with, in the future?

Michelle: I would love to have more scenes with Rochelle Aytes, who plays Detective Russell. I think she's fantastic. I think she's doing a good job. The way the structure of the show is, is that we're the volunteers and she's the expert, and it's mostly Christian's character that deals with her, as far as getting help for us. Because Candace is kind of a nerd about this group, and is really dedicated and into it, I think that she really looks up to Det. Russell a lot, and really admires what she does and that she helps us. I would like to have more scenes with her, for sure.

IESB: What's been the most enjoyable or fun thing about working on this series, and what's been the most difficult aspect of it?

Michelle: It's a catch-22, for me. The most enjoyable thing, as an actor, is getting up and going to work, every day. I really like that stability. I feel like it's an extended family that I go to, every day. It's not just the cast, but we have a whole crew of people that we spend a lot of time with, so we get to know each other really well, and I really enjoy that aspect of it.

The downside of it is that my personal social life is just non-existent. It's too exhausting to try to maintain both. Thankfully, I've got great friends that understand. If I'm not around or I don't call back, they don't take it personally. It's this catch-22 because I really love getting up and going to work, every day, and having this extended family, but there's no time to do anything else right now. I haven't traveled anywhere, I haven't really done much, I haven't seen my friends much. It's just really all about work. I love it and hate it.

IESB: Now that you've gotten to play Candace for a little while, is it a character that you hope to continue playing?

Michelle: Yeah. To be honest, it took us a little while to find a groove, but we're finding it now, and I'm finding it now, really making her stand out a little bit more. So, I really hope that we get the opportunity to let that grow and flourish. I feel like I just found a groove and am getting comfortable. I really want to make her stand out. I would like to continue doing it.

IESB: Did you know anything at all about these organizations before you were cast on the show? What sort of research did you do, once you were cast?

Michelle: I had no idea. I thought the whole thing was fiction. And then, as the project started coming together and I started doing research, I learned that there's quite a few organizations like this. The two that I looked into and that we connect ourselves with are EDAN, which stands for Everyone Deserves A Name, and NamUs, which is the National Missing and Unidentified Persons System.

The show is actually based on something very true. These organizations do exist. It is just volunteers. They do actually solve cases. EDAN solved 14 last year, where they identified the names, which is a lot. There were 14 people that didn't have a name and didn't know how they were killed, and a group of volunteers got together and solved that. I thought that was pretty fascinating.

Our stories are fiction, though. They're not based on true stories. They're written by the writers, but the concept is very real. I looked into a lot of the organizations. We got to speak with someone from EDAN. He was very cool, and he came to the set. He's actually an office worker, so I sat down and talked to him. He was like, "It's exactly how it's written. I work 9 to 5. I use most of my time, pretending to be on the computer, making phone calls." When he was working on a case, he wasn't really doing anything at work, which is kind of what Candace does. It was cool.

IESB: You do film roles in very diverse projects. Is that something that you intentionally strive for?

Michelle: I've kinda been all over the place. For the first two or three years, out in L.A., I was working to work. Work begets work. So, yeah, I'm in films with aliens and I'm in films with dinosaurs chasing me. And then, as time went on, I got to a place where I could choose. When you're first in L.A., you just want to work. It's not really a choice. So, when I got to a place where I could choose, it was Tell Me You Love Me and things that I thought were really groundbreaking and that were pushing boundaries. That's the stuff that I was personally really into, and that's the kind of theater I was doing in New York. I was doing performance art.

And then, I started taking classes at The Groundlings, and I really just got into comedy. It just felt good and it felt right, and I think I'm decent at it. It's hard and I think I'm okay at it, so I started seeking out more comedic roles. TiMER is doing really well at the film festivals. A Good Old Fashioned Orgy may or may not ever see the light of day. If it does, it's a great film with an incredible cast of funny people.

I'm lucky and grateful to be at a point where I can choose. If I can, I'll go for the small, gritty roles in film, or a fun, comedic part. That's what I like, right now.

IESB: Being a fan of skydiving and riding motorcycles, what do you think it is about you that makes you like to live more dangerously?

Michelle: I haven't gone skydiving in two years. I'm licensed and I was getting competitive. I actually really got into it. I think there are certain times I've been reckless. I was in a reckless state of mind. I don't know why. I got my license while I was shooting Tell Me You Love Me and, if the studio had found out, they would have killed me. But, I had a hard time with that show, and it had nothing to do with the nudity. It had to do with the emotional aspect of loneliness, so I started to find hobbies.

The skydiving community is this tight little niche. They're family. And so, I fell into it and I felt like I had a home. It helped me get away from that show, and I dove in, head first. It really just made me feel alive, in the process of doing that show. That's why I did that. But, I don't know if I'm going to continue to be a skydiver. I can't even call myself a skydiver right now because I haven't gone in two years. But, it was at a time that I was looking for a release, and I was a little bit reckless. I needed something. It's like a drug, but it's not a drug where people would be like, "Oh, you're a drug addict." But, that was my drug of choice, to deal with my mind at that time. That's how I can describe it.

I like to do things that make me uncomfortable. I'm uncomfortable in front of cameras, so I'm an actress. I'm uncomfortable with heights, so I jump out of airplanes. I do that on purpose. I don't know why. It's an experience that's not comparable to anything.

And, motorcycles have been in my family. We're a motorcycle family.

'New Moon' Eclipses 'Twilight' as The #4 Top Advance Ticket-Seller

New Moon opens at midnight one week from tonight, but the film has already outsold its predecessor, Twilight, in total advance ticket sales on Fandango, the nation's leading movie ticketing destination. The new movie currently represents 75% of the site's ticket sales.

Although thousands of next Thursday night's midnight showtimes are sold-out across the country (from Anchorage, Alaska to Winter Park, Florida), tickets are still available, while new showtimes are added regularly to keep up with the demand.

"Ever since we started selling advance tickets to New Moon on August 31, the demand has been unstoppable, as the fan base just keeps growing every day," says Fandango Chief Operating Officer Rick Butler. "New Moon is tracking to be Fandango's #1 top advance ticket-seller of all time."

Currently, New Moon ranks as the #4 top advance ticket-seller in Fandango history, toppling Twilight which previously held the spot.

The Top 5 Advance Ticket-Sellers on Fandango (as of November 12, 2009) are as follows:

Star Wars: Episode III - Revenge of the Sith (2005)

Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince (2009)

The Dark Knight (2008)

New Moon (2009)

Twilight (2008)

According to a recent Fandango survey of more than 2,000 New Moon ticket-buyers, the first Twilight movie helped fuel the fan frenzy that has carried over to the other installments in the series:

55% said the first Twilight movie inspired them to read all the books by Stephenie Meyer.

51% plan to see New Moon more than once in the theater.

61% said they have read the novel New Moon more than once.

Fandango is also offering exclusive limited edition New Moon gift cards (featuring images of Edward & Bella, Jacob & The Wolf Pack and other characters), redeemable for any movie on www.fandango.com. Details can be found at http://www.fandango.com/Twilightgifts.

KICK-ASS is in theaters on April 16, 2010.

The film tells the story of average teenager Dave Lizewski (Aaron Johnson), a comic-book fanboy who decides to take his obsession as inspiration to become a real-life superhero. As any good superhero would, he chooses a new name -- Kick-Ass -- assembles a suit and mask to wear, and gets to work fighting crime.

There's only one problem standing in his way: Kick-Ass has absolutely no superpowers. His life is forever changed as he inspires a subculture of copy cats, is hunted by assorted violent and unpleasant characters, and meets up with a pair of crazed vigilantes, including an 11-year-old sword-wielding dynamo, Hit Girl (Chloë Moretz) and her father, Big Daddy (Nicolas Cage).

HA!

This month the Brothers Warner are releasing a trifecta of Blu-Ray action flicks and first up is Logans Run the tripped out sci-fi auctioneer that serves are a warning label for anyone approaching the big 30. The movie is still as wacked out today as it was then and looks mighty fine in high def. It's not just on the surface this place would totally rock for me! Written and directed by Michael Mann, Heat includes dazzling set pieces and a bank heist that USA Today's Mike Clark calls "the greatest action scene of recent times." It also offers "the most impressive collection of actors in one movie this year" (Newsweek). Val Kilmer, Jon Voight, Tom Sizemore and Ashley Judd are among the memorable supporting players in this tale of a brilliant L.A. cop (Pacino) following the trail from a deadly armed robbery to a crew headed by an equally brilliant master thief (De Niro).

Special Features -
DVD-
N/A

Blu-Ray-
New Content Changes Supervised By Director Michael Mann
Commentary By Writer/Producer/Director Michael Mann
11 Additional Scenes
5 Revealing Documentaries
- True Crime
- Crime Stories
- Into The Fire
- Pacino And De Niro: The Conversation
- Return To The Scene Of The Crime
Theatrical Trailer

Mini-Review: Next up from the WB slate of high def action: HEAT!

Heat is one of those slow burn types of action/heist flicks that despite being all over the place at times just always sucks me in for the ride. Oh sure Pacino is 15 levels of over the top silly in parts of this movie but it's needed to jolt you into laughing as you watch the grimm adventures of this cop VS crook tale. On the plus side the action (when it happens) is off the chain crazy that yet somehow could actually happen (see North Hollywood Bank Shootout if you need proof). If for nothing else pick this up for the chance to hear Al scream "Cause She's Got A Great ASS!!" in trueHD 5.1.

Title - The Negotiator
Rating: R
Number Of Discs: 1
Director: F. Gary Grey
Cast: Samuel L. Jackson, Kevin Spacey, David Morse, J.T. Walsh, Ron Rifkin, John Spencer

Synopsis: Maverick hostage negotiator Danny Roman (Samuel L. Jackson) is framed for embezzlement and murder. Newly married and unjustly faced with prison, Roman turns hostage-taker to smoke out the guilty ones. Squaring off against him is respected, methodical negotiator Chris Sabian (Kevin Spacey). F. Gary Gray (The Italian Job, Be Cool) directs a top ensemble cast (including David Morse and J.T. Walsh) in a story honed with spiraling tension and volatile action - and unfolding via a dazzling series of twists and gambits.

Special Features -
DVD-
N/A

Blu-Ray-
The Eleventh Hour: Stories from Real Negotiators Featurette
On Location Making-of Featurette
Theatrical Trailer

Mini-Review: The third film in this weeks WB action Blu-Ray slate and a damn good one too.

This is movie I think too many people dismiss, and I can certainly understand that because it more drama than action. However there is plenty of action to be had and the cast is one of the finer collections of cast members you'll likely find in this type of film. Filled with some pretty tense moments and mind screwing plot twists it's a good choice for casual viewing. See Samuel L Jackson at his screaming best.

Title - Justice League: The Complete Series
Rating: Not Rated
Number Of Discs: 15
Director: N/A
Cast: Superman, Batman, Wonder Woman, The Flash, Etc

Synopsis: In this action-packed adventure series, the world's greatest superheroes, including Superman, Batman, Wonder Woman, Green Lantern, The Flash, Hawkgirl and Martian Manhunter, join forces as the Justice League to battle powerful villains, supernatural creatures and evil entities determined to take over the world and destroy the League.

Special Features -
DVD-
New Bonus Disc Documentary "Unlimited Reserve: Exploring the Depths of the DC Universe".

Commentary on 8 episodes with Series Creators: "The Enemy Below Part 2", "Legends Part 2", "The Savage Time Part 2", "Twilight Part 2", "A Better World Part 2", "Starcrossed Part 3", "This Little Piggy", "The Return".

Featurettes: "Inside Justice League", "The Look of The League", "The Blueprint for Justice", "Justice League - The First Mission", "Voices of Justice", "Justice League: Declassified", "And Justice for all", "Themes of Justice", "Cadmus: Exposed", "Justice League Chronicles", Music-only audio track for the final episode "Destroyer".

Easter Egg: "Not too Savage", a Deleted Scene with an introduction by producer Bruce Timm.

Blu-Ray-
N/A

Mini-Review: Packed in with a new bonus disc (like what was done with the Batman Animated Complete Set) and packaged up in a nice nifty little metal outer case this is a nugget of golden fun for people like me. Oh sure I already own the full seasons but over time they have taken a beating and having them all here in one set makes for easier viewing and looks darn good on the DVD shelf. The set does in fact include both The Justice League and Justice League Unlimited (there has been debate over this but now you know). Mind you I'd love this one Blu-Ray but I'm a patient guy so this works well until that day arrives. Grab your cape and get ready for fun.

Title - The Untouchables: Season Three Volume Two
Rating: Not Rated
Number Of Discs: 3
Director: N/A
Cast: Robert Stack, Paul Picerni, Abel Fernandez, Nicholas Georgiade, Steve London

Synopsis: The Untouchables returns to DVD with the final 12 episodes from Season Three, digitally remastered on 3 discs, on DVD for the first time!

Chronicling the cases of Chicago-based federal agent Eliot Ness (Robert Stack) and his team of agents - Lee Hobson (Paul Picerni), Enrico Rossi (Nicholas Georgiade), William Youngfellow (Abel Fernandez), and Jack Rossman (Steve London) - the tough drama that defined an era impressed critic with its gritty storylines, and thrilled audiences with its spectacular shoot-outs!

Now with Prohibition on its last legs, Ness turns his attentions to other vices ravaging Chicago - gambling, prostitution, and narcotics - and even declares war on the infamous kingpin George "Bugs" Moran. The Untouchables are back - and they're taking down the mob once and for all!

Special Features -
DVD-
N/A

Blu-Ray-
N/A

Mini-Review: For some odd reason as a kid I had this obsession with Eliot Ness, the story of how he took on Al Capone just got stuck in my head. Kind of odd really but in following this obsession I watch a ton of this show on re-runs and it's cool checking this out again. The only down side is the lack of features, but old TV rarely gets them so it's to be expected and it's a treat just to have them available. Also Robert Stack freakin RULEZ!!

Oddly I'm going to cut this weeks DVD report short, plenty of other releases to cover in here however those titles have some coverage in other parts of the site.

See ya next week

Interview: Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson, Jessica Biel and Justin Long are on PLANET 51

Planet 51 is an animated alien adventure comedy revolving around American astronaut Captain Charles "Chuck" Baker (Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson), who lands on Planet 51 thinking he's the first person to step foot on it. To his surprise, he finds that this planet is inhabited by little green people who are happily living in an idyllic world reminiscent of innocent 1950's America, and whose only fear is that it will be overrun by alien invaders, like Chuck. With the help of his robot companion Rover and his new friend Lem (Justin Long), Chuck must navigate his way through the landscape of Planet 51, in order to escape becoming a permanent part of the Alien Invaders Space Museum.

During the film's press day, voice co-stars Dwayne Johnson, Jessica Biel and Justin Long talked about how much fun they had making the animated film.

Q: Jessica, your character Neera is one hot alien. How did you add your sultry sex appeal to this green girl?

Jessica: Do I have sultry sex appeal? Thank you! That's lovely. It was just about trying to create a 16-year-old girl, who thinks she has this confidence and this sexy, "I am a woman," attitude and, at the same time, is really still trying to figure it out with boys and is still trying to see how far she wants to push the envelope with authority and what people tell her to do. I think I was just trying to create that person that I felt like I was, when I was 16, which was confident, but insecure, and pushing the envelope, but still feeling like she was a little kid, and thinking she was this strong, independent, sexy woman, but still not 100% there yet. That's what I was trying to do.

Q: Did you think about the history of green ladies in science fiction, going back to Star Trek?

Justin: I'm guessing no.

Jessica: That would be the correct answer. I never thought about that.

Justin: It's funny because they had originally cast Harvey Fierstein in Jess' role.

Q: When you saw the final product with the animation, did you see yourself in your character?

Jessica: I think I saw some physical things that I do myself. It was so weird to hear my own voice.

Justin: Yeah. My brother didn't know that I was in the movie. I don't know why. And, he heard a commercial the other day and looked up and saw it coming out of a green alien. I'm sure he wasn't stoned at all. For me, I thought they captured me pretty accurately, from the waist down. I was amazed at how close that was.
Dwayne: I couldn't believe it. I was like, "Is that all you?"

Justin: They did take a mold of my body because the animator does this whole 3-D thing. The process is fascinating. But, yeah, it was pretty close. I don't know. I gesticulate a lot. I constantly, usually very effeminately, [speak with my hands]. That was nice. It was a nice freedom to have, in the room. I could just wildly use my hands and body, and not be afraid of that.

Dwayne: It was the coolest thing, when I finally watched it. For me, it was the first time that I had done an animation movie and tried to bring a character to life with my voice, pitch and intonation, which I thought was really cool. And then, listening to Jessie and Justin, and even Seann William Scott, I thought they all did a great job of bringing those characters to life. In a movie like this, a lot of times, their facial expressions are over the top, and these guys were awesome. It's something that jumped out at me, which I thought was really cool.

Justin: I found that you have to be bigger. (Director) Jorge [Blanco] kept saying to do more and go bigger. You need to.

Q: Dwayne, how did doing something like this compare to the computer effect in The Mummy 3?

Dwayne: The difference was that, in Planet 51, I had to bring the character to life with my voice. With that, it was Stephen Sommers saying, "Okay, and you have claws. You're trying to get Brendan Fraser." At the end of the day, the process was pretty fascinating. I thought the challenge was pretty cool.

Q: Do you believe in the possibility of intelligent life on other planets?

Justin: I do.

Jessica: I do, too.

Dwayne: Me, too.

Jessica: There's just so much space.

Justin: It would be arrogant to think that it's just us.

Jessica: I agree.

Q: Did this movie make you want to be a better person or make you want to contribute to changing the world?

Dwayne: Yeah. It had a utopian sense to it, which I thought was really cool. The writers and producers involved came up with a pretty cool concept. My take away from it was just to be better and wanting to live better. As individuals, everybody wants to get better at whatever it is you want to do, whether it's a better boyfriend, a better son or a better co-star.

Jessica: What I took was the idea of a more innocent, conservative time. I've always been interested in the ‘50's and that feeling of being simpler. For me, the idea with this movie is to be open to change. In our world, a lot is changing and, in this world, a lot is changing as well. You should be accepting of change and something that's different from you, and be excited to experience that because, only through change, can you grow and learn more about yourself, as a human or alien.

Justin: Because it is set in an idyllic society that is also kind of repressed, since it mirrors our 1950's, it brings up a lot of issues that we dealt with and are still kind of dealing with, like paranoia in people who are a little bit different, and judging people too quickly and harshly. In that sense, it's timely. There's a little lesson embedded underneath all the cute, fun, green stuff.

Q: What was it like to go through the experience of doing an animated film, as opposed to live-action? Can you have more fun and flesh out your characters more?

Jessica: I think, in one sense, you really can. You can just be crazy. You can talk with your hands, you can go really broad, you can take it really small. Really, it's your director who's guiding you along because you're not reacting to anything. Sometimes, I got to see some of the animation that they'd already done and some that was in the process. It was an ongoing process.

Justin: We did an initial pass. This movie has been going on for years. We've been doing it for the last three years. Initially, we just recorded it all and they gave us templates, so that we were able to see art. And, as they had our recordings, they started animating to the ones they liked. But then, we'd have to go back over it and fill in little holes, and then they'd rewrite.

Dwayne: At the end of the day, the process was a lot of fun for me, personally. I hadn't done animation before. At one point, there was about six guys in the room, all giving their directorial opinions, and you had to interpret everything that they were saying, which made it challenging yet interesting and fun, at the same time.

Q: Would you do it again?

Dwayne: Yeah, I'd do it again in a second. Whether it's a live-action movie or it's animation, it comes down to the story. If you're compelled and moved by the story, you think you're going to have fun, and you think it's going to entertain audiences, which we all collectively felt that this would, then sure, I'd do it again.

Q: What did you think about this film being done by a Spanish studio?

Justin: They showed me some art, early on, that got me really excited. Some of the illustrations they had done were just beautiful. And then, throughout, they showed me little bits.

Dwayne: We were all shown early stages of the animation and, even at that time, the animation was gorgeous. It was really beautiful. And, you couple that with the fact that those guys are so incredibly passionate about this project. They've been with this project since 2002, so it's been a long labor of love and a passion project for them. So, their passion, in the room when we were doing the voice-overs, was very intoxicating and inspiring.

Q: In this film, your voices sounded quite a bit different. Did they ask you to change your pitch for the characters?

Jessica: My pitch was changed while we were actually doing it. The whole time, Jorge asked me to go higher and higher. That was very hard for me, at first.

Justin: We did it over the course of a couple of years, during which time I apparently went through puberty. I do a voice in Alvin and the Chipmunks, and they're very careful about the intonation and pitch for that voice. I work with this voice coach and we just did the Squeakquel. That will be coming out in Oscar season. My voice coach told me that my voice, over the last couple years, has gotten lower. I don't know what's happened. So, I had to raise my pitch. And also, playing a teenager, I had to raise it some.

Q: How is making a hard-core horror film different from doing family entertainment?

Jessica: It's the extreme opposite, for me, at least. Making The Texas Chainsaw Massacre was probably one of the hardest experiences for me, emotionally and creatively. It was intense because it was at this high level of freak-out, for about a month. It was just so not this world. That kind of emotional strain was so different. Planet 51 was just fun. I wanted to do it because it was speaking to my inner child. Yes, I want to be an alien. Yes, I want to be green.

Justin: No, I don't want to wear pants.

Jessica: Yes, I don't want to have to go through hair and make-up. I want to just go to work. For a girl, you have to go through so much hair and make-up, and so many costume fittings. I have to sit in the chair for two hours, in the morning, and it was so nice not to do that.

Justin: Yeah. I have such a respect for actors who are able to give convincing horror movie performances, as Jessica did in Texas Chainsaw, ‘cause it really is exhausting to maintain that. It's your whole body, too. It was my biggest fear, just being caught in a dishonest moment. There's nothing worse than bad horror. With Drag Me to Hell, it was really Alison Lohman. I was just the boyfriend. But, I did a few other movies that were that level, and it was just grueling. You go home every night, so drained emotionally.

Q: Did Sam Raimi give you any advice at all?

Justin: Well, yeah. Sam is very hands-on, in the best way. Sam is a good actor. People don't realize that he acted, back in the day, and he's very funny, so he gets really into it. But, a lot of that stuff was Alison. With all the green screen stuff, he'd get really worked up and animated. He's an incredibly passionate director. I just watched a lot of movies that reminded me of the character, so I watched From Here to Eternity and Romeo & Juliet. That helped me out a lot.

Q: This movie really captures that great retro, nostalgia vibe. Do you have any favorite killer robot or alien invasion B-movies?

Jessica: I never really got into those.

Dwayne: Neither did I. Not too much. I love the music in Planet 51. The music was cool.

Justin: I love the old ‘50's monster movies. I used to watch those, when I was a kid. And, I love The Twilight Zone.

Q: If you could live on Planet 51, would you?

Dwayne: I would. I think it's kinda cool. It's like back in the days when things were easier.

Jessica: It's simpler.

Dwayne: It would be cool to visit and then come back.

Justin: Exactly. There are days that I wish I could be on Planet 51, and I only hope I encounter someone as understanding as Lem. I wouldn't want to be imprisoned.

Q: How did you relate to your characters?

Justin: It's a pretty easy answer for me. Shockingly, I was a bit of a nerd in high school. I was studious and a little socially awkward. So, yeah, it was nice to go back to that time, before I was all jaded and over everything. That was a more innocent time. I had a very similar experience in high school. I was just not as smart, though, sadly. Lem is a lot brighter than me.

Dwayne: My character is incredibly arrogant and loves him some him. That's me. No. I would say the parallels were maybe the fact that he was very entertaining and loved to entertain. And, he's a pretty decent guy. I will say that I really enjoyed the part in the movie where he reveals himself to Lem and says, "Look, I'm not the guy you think I am. I'm not this great guy. As a matter of fact, you're more of a man than I am. I'm inspired by you." I love that.

Jessica: I related to Neera because, when I was 16, I was pushing it, on every angle, with my parents and the world. I thought I had it going on. I thought I knew everything. I relate to her feeling of risk-taking. I had a little bit more of a bad attitude, as a 16-year-old. She wants to help this planet and change the world into peace, think for herself and be really independent and a risk-taker. That's where I really related to her. She's way more of a positive, charitable person than I was, as a 16-year-old, but the risk thing, the independence and the confidence with Lem, I related to a lot.

Q: Did you feel like the aliens represented other parts of the world that have a love/hate relationship with Americans and American culture?

Justin: I didn't think much about that, and I'd be afraid to attempt to answer that. There is an element of war-mongering and that jingo-istic quality. I noticed that, for sure.

Dwayne: I'm not quite too sure if they thought about that, in too much detail, when they wrote it.

Q: This was the production company's first animated movie. Did you notice any nervousness at all?

Jessica: I don't know. I think they were a mix of different things. I'm sure there was a little bit of nervousness, but more than the nervousness, it was just excitement that they were so close. It has been eight years that everyone has been working on getting this completely taken care of, and they were just excited. They were so giddy with joy that we were almost there.

Dwayne: There was a big combination of that. There was a little bit of nervousness, but they were really enthusiastic, excited and very passionate, and that came out in spades. They paid a lot of attention to minutiae, which we all appreciated. They were really excited.

Q: Were you sought out for this, or did you hear about it and really want to be a part of it?

Dwayne: I heard that Justin and Jessica were interested, and then I was like, "I'm in." I'm a big fan of Justin's and I've known Jessica for years, so I was in.

Justin: Likewise, I heard about who was involved, and that was the big thrill. That was the big draw.

Jessica: Which is funny because we never saw each other.

Justin: Gary Oldman and John Cleese did voices. That's so cool.

Q: Dwayne, how excited was your daughter that you were involved with this?

Dwayne: It was interesting for her. She just turned eight, so she heard my voice, but in an animated way, and then saw me on screen, white and blonde. That was interesting to her, but nonetheless entertaining. So, she was excited.

Q: What do you like most about doing family movies?

Dwayne: For me, the goal was to work in as many different genres as possible and hopefully find good success in them. But, when you make a good family movie, there is an importance of it and great value to it. If you make a good family movie, then everybody in the family can relate to somebody, or in this case something. That's always enjoyable. There's always an important place for family movies.

Q: Since you're playing an astronaut in this, what do you think NASA will think of your character?

Dwayne: The studio has partnered up with NASA, so I had an opportunity to meet a couple individuals from NASA, who love the movie and love the message. They're great guys. From what I know, they are happy with the movie.

Q: How does that make you feel?

Dwayne: For me, it was just an honor to talk with the individuals from NASA, who are always cutting edge and who are responsible for so much. To put it in perspective, we made a great animated movie and they were happy with the character that we made of the astronaut.

Q: Do you guys have any fear of the unknown, like your characters?

Jessica: That's a constant problem. When am I going to work? I don't know. That's always there. I try not to think about that too much, but it's always a little bit there. When will I work and can I pay my bills? Is it going to be creatively interesting? There's always there for me, a little bit, as much as I try to say it's not.
